L’Oreal heiress, Liliane Bettencourt, the world’s richest woman is dead.

Bettencourt passed away in the early hours of Thursday after suffering from dementia at her old age.
The cosmetics giant’s principal shareholder died at the age of 94.

The sad news was shared by her daughter Francoise Bettencourt Meyersin.
“Liliane Bettencourt died last night at home.

“She would have been 95 on October 21. My mother left peacefully,” Mrs Bettencourt-Meyers said in a statement.
According to Forbes magazine, Bettencourt was the 14th richest person in the world, with estimated net worth at $39.5 billion in March.

Lagos unveils new strategy to boost informal sector …set to launch compendium of artisans [b][/b]

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to launch a compendium of registered artisans in the State to scale up the informal sector with the overall objective of increasing job opportunities and growing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State.

Speaking with Government House correspondents on Tuesday at Lagos House, Ikeja after a meeting between Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and members of Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans (LACOSTA), the State’s Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Dr Babatunde Durosimi-Etti said the compendium was part of the initiatives of the State Government to assist artisans to promote their businesses.

He said the compendium, which will be launched during the Artisans’ Day coming up in October, will comprise the list of all registered artisans in the State, their locations, business details and other necessary information.

According to the Commissioner, the compendium when fully launched will go a long way in increasing number of artisans to access the Employment Trust Fund (ETF) set up by the present administration in the State, and as well help residents and potential customers to locate artisans in any part of the State.

Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, ​reacted to the tension caused by the clash between troops of the Nigerian Army and loyalists of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

​The Northern leaders called for calm ​while commending Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for imposing a dusk to dawn curfew in the state.
​A statement by ​ACF ​publicity secretary, Mohammed Ibrahim Biu ​appealed to IPOB supporters and other agitators​ to​ pursue their cause within the confines of the law.

​“The attention of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has been drawn to the allegedly reported clashes between troops of the Nigerian Army while on Operation Python Dance11 and members of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in Aba, Abia State​”, it read.​

​”​ACF commends the prompt intervention of the Abia State Governor, Chief Okezie Ikpeazu,who has imposed a three day dusk to dawn curfew on Aba town in order to douse the tension and bring the situation under control. With the dusk to dawn curfew in place, the military and other security agencies should ensure that peace and harmony in the areas affected are not only restored but sustained.

“ACF also commends the efforts of South East Governors Forum for setting up a Probe Committee to investigate the clash in order to unravel its remote causes and to proffer an enduring solution to such problems.

​”​Identified perpetrators of the crisis should be made to face the wrath of the law in order to serve as deterrent to others. In this regard, ACF urges the Governors of the South East and South South regions to take adequate and necessary steps to protect the lives and properties of the innocent and law abiding citizens living in their states.

“ACF appeals to members of IPOB and other agitators for whatever cause to always pursue their concerns within the confines of the law and the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

“Furthermore, ACF wishes to praise the military for their professionalism in handling the security challenges and calls on the Federal Government to be firm and resolute in bring such situations under control in favor of peaceful coexistence needed for meaningful socioeconomic development.

We therefore appeal for calm and urge citizens to appreciate the need to live in peace and harmony”.

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Segun Olulade has said the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode will deal decisively with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu if he tries to hold a rally in the State.

Olulade made the disclosure while reacting to Kanu’s recent declaration that he would soon visit Lagos State as part of his sensitization and mobilization of Igbos towards the actualization of Biafra.

The lawmaker, who represents Epe constituency II in the State Assembly warned Kanu to steer clear of the state.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Health Services stressed that Ambode and people of the state would not fold their hands and allow anyone disturb the peace that is enjoyed by residents in the state.

Speaking with The Independent, the Chairman of the House Committee on Health Services said: “I think as a state, we will be ready to curtail any act of insecurity in Lagos state. We will not fold our hands and allow anybody to cause crisis and breakdown of law and order in the state.

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will deal decisively with anyone threatening to shut down the state. If any fellow is threatening to shut down our state, he should go back to where he is coming from. He is not welcome in Lagos state. Lagosians will resist it.

“The government of Lagos will resist it and we will ensure that nobody truncates the peace we enjoy in Lagos. I see his threat to hold a rally and shut down Lagos state as an empty threat. Lagos is not like any other state.”

Sport claim that Barca’s representatives travelled to Liverpool on Tuesday to conclude a deal and are aiming to unveil the 25-year-old as their new signing later week.

The report claims that Barcelona’s offer will be worth €90 million (£82m) plus variables.

Nkechinyere Nwosu, who is the wife of a significant community ruler, spearheaded a protest –alongside some other aggrieved women of the community –against the violent invasion some Fulani herdsmen carried out on farmlands.

In fear of the possible danger that might stem from the Fulani herdsmen’s invasion, Nkechinyere referred a petition to Igbo-Etche’s significant ruler, Eze Innocent Nwosu, asking the monarch to take necessary actions of introducing Rivers State’s governor to resolve the issue.

In response to this agitation, Innocent Nwosu resorted to the state’s governor –Nyesom Wike –asking the latter to take rapid measures aimed at preventing the village farmers from a dearth of food regarding the fact that the Fulani herdsmen were wreaking havoc on crops.

A certain news agency also confirmed this violent invasion, reporting that the farmers in a specific part of Rivers State were being terrorized by Fulani herdsmen with weapons such as arrows and guns.
