Nairaland GeneralFind Another Job For Oshiomhole, Buhari Tells APC by Jahelastic(op): 9:51pm On Nov 07, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday expressed the hope that the ruling All Progressives Congress would find another assignment for the outgoing Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

He said it would result to wasting Oshiomole’s energy if he was allowed to retire immediately after his tenure as a state governor.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke at the Palace of the new Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, shortly before he embarked on the inauguration of projects in the state.

Buhari said the country would be the loser if the APC failed to utilise the people’s governor’s wisdom, skill and energy.

He said, “It will be a pity to waste his energy by him retiring. I hope there will be a higher assignment for him to do more for the nation.

“I congratulate the governor for his hard work; Oshiomhole is a hard working governor. We will need his services in Abuja.

“Thank you for inviting me, most especially during this time in the country.

“You have served two terms and you are about to leave. You deserve a place in history. I hope the APC will look for a place for you because your service for the country is far from over.”

Buhari also congratulated the Oba on his enthronement and extended the support of the Federal government to him in his bid to improve the lives of Edo people.

The Oba in his speech expressed delighted on the president’s visit, noting that it was the first since his recent coronation.”

“We believe this is a sign of better things to come. I appreciate your contribution to my coronation,” Oba Ewuare II said.

The royal father who commended the President for appointing Edo indigenes into positions in government appealed for the establishment of an export and import processing zone for agro-allied industries in the state.

He said the venture would stimulate the nation’s economy and create jobs.

Nairaland GeneralHigh Covenant Varsity Fees: Stop Or Face God’s Wrath, Oyedepo Tells Critics by Jahelastic(op): 8:57pm On Nov 05, 2016
The Bishop of the Living Faith Church worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo, has appealed to those criticising the school fees charged by Covenant University to desist to avoid incurring the wrath of God.

Oyedepo, in a telecast to a pre-Shiloh 2016 Convention gathering of the church monitored via satellite in Jos on Saturday, said the critics were acting in ignorance and risked incurring the wrath of God.

He said one of such critic, who was smitten with a strange plague of chronic mouth odour over the act, only received spiritual pardon following his confession and “my intervention before he was restored to dignity”.

Oyedepo said the issue of school fees paid by students of the university was a godly agenda to meet the demands of raising godly children in an environment conducive for learning.

He said such criticisms were products of ignorance as what students pay could not be compared with what obtained elsewhere that lacked facilities.

He said, “The school fees has Gods approval and is in accordance with the quality of facilities provided by the university in meeting the educational needs of the nation.”

He said the church in its pioneering role in pushing the frontiers of education with excellence had concluded plans to establish offshore universities.

The cleric said a fully automated Bible press by the church had been completed and would be launched soon.

Oyedepo, however, quoting from some verses of the Bible, which include Matthew 24:6-8, 1Peter 2:9, Joel 2:2 and Mal. 4:1, said the current economic meltdown was predicted but that committed Christians would be exempted.

He prayed for resources for parents to always meet the demands of the time and declared the theme of this year’s Shiloh holding between Dec. 6 and Dec. 10 as “My Case is Different”.

The bishop said this year’s annual event of Shiloh would not be advertised as past events as it would be church based.

Usman gave the name of the rescued girl as Maryam Ali Maiyanga.

“She was discovered to be carrying a 10-month-old son, named Ali. She has been taken to the unit’s medical facility for proper medical check up.

PoliticsLagos Can Generate N50bn Internal Revenue Monthly – Ambode by Jahelastic(op): 6:56pm On Nov 04, 2016
The Lagos State Government has the potential to generate N50bn monthly as internal revenue, Governor Akinwumi Ambode said on Friday in Lagos.

Ambode made this known at a colloquium on the state of the nation, organised in Ikoyi, Lagos, by the Coalition of Nigerian Apostolic Leaders.

CNAL is an affiliate and the Nigerian arm of the International Coalition of Apostolic Leaders.

The governor was represented by the state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade.

He said that whatever the state was realising at the moment as internally generated revenue was only 65 per cent of what it could achieve.

Ambode said that the state government had the population and the youth to achieve the target and was working on critical policy objectives that would unlock the state’s potential to build a more vibrant economy.

He noted that the economic challenges in Nigeria were affecting Lagos State, but said that the state was re-strategising.

The governor said that the economic challenges in the country, drop in crude oil production and fall in Naira value, should provide a golden opportunity for the country to re-strategise to build a sustainable economy.

Ambode said the recent declaration by the International Monetary Fund that Nigeria has regained its position as the biggest economy in Africa should be a harbinger of hope of a better Nigeria.

He gave the assurance that the state government would soon complete the blue rail light project, and bridges at Abule Egba and Agege, among other capital projects.

The Minister of Information, Culture and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said at the occasion that corruption was Nigeria’s major problem.

He said that the Federal Government had made efforts to communicate effectively with the citizens to enable them to understand the cause of the current economic situation and its efforts to tackle them

He said, “We have held town hall meetings. We have launched Change Begins with Me. It is about all of us. We must be the change we desire.”

The minister said that a major challenge faced by government was misleading information placed on social media by unpatriotic Nigeria to counter government information.

He said, “They counter us, using social media. This is a challenge. They fill the atmosphere with their own version of information.”

Mohammed said that it was necessary for the Federal Government to get feedback from the citizens.

He said, “That is why forums like this are important.”

The Presiding Apostle, NCAL, Pastor Wale Adefasarin, said that economic crunch in Nigeria had made many citizens to ask “is this the change we voted for?”

He said, “Nigeria faces daunting challenges with attendant job loss, closure of industries, loss in Naira value, etc. Will Naira regain its value? How do our youths get jobs? “

He said that coalition believed it had a role to play.

He said, “We stand as partners in the Nigerian enterprise. The church can champion transformation. How can we support this transformation? We need to know.”

Nairaland GeneralFacebook Redesigns Safety Centre To Protect Users by Jahelastic(op): 4:59pm On Nov 04, 2016
The Chief Security Officer at Facebook, Mr Alex Stamos, says the company has redesigned its Safety Centre to enable people stay safe online.

Stamos said in a statement on Friday in Lagos that the redesigned safety centre was the company’s approach to making the internet more secure for everyone.

The statement said that keeping people and their information safe was a core part of helping the community to grow, connect and support each other.

According to the statement, Facebook builds security protections to help keep people safe, even under non-ideal circumstances that security professionals often overlook, such as weak password usage or running out-of-date devices.

It added that the company performed automated checks to help to detect suspicious logins so as to protect people’s accounts.

It said that the company also shipped its own cryptography with their mobile app to make people more secure on those devices.

The statement said that there was the need for consumer awareness about safety and security to protect their information and build their confidence while online.

“Nigeria officially recognised National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October, underscoring the need to educate the public about how to protect themselves.

“This focus on awareness is at the heart of Facebook’s newly redesigned Safety Centre, an engaging resource to help people to get the information they need about controlling their information and staying safe.

“People come to Facebook to share important and personal moments in their lives. That is why we build our services and tools to help them to remain in control and protect their accounts.

“We always have to consider the situations in which our technology will be used so that we can offer people the best security and safety for what they need,’’ it said.

“The new Safety Centre walks people through Facebook-tools to control your experience as well as numerous tips and resources for safe and secure sharing.

“The Safety Centre is available in over 50 languages; works well on mobile devices and includes step-by-step videos on a variety of popular safety topics.’’

The statement said that Facebook worked with partners, including the International Centre for Leadership Development in Nigeria and Watoto Watch Network in Kenya to bring its safety resources to life and address local communities.

“This update also brings the Bullying Prevention Hub to everyone on Facebook. The Hub is a resource for teens, parents and educators seeking guidance on how to prevent and address bullying.

“Developed with the Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence in 2013, Facebook now works with nearly 60 partners around the world to make the Bullying Prevention Hub more widely available.

“For Facebook, making the world more open and connected also means keeping people and their information safe. Check out the new Facebook Safety Centre today,’’ it quoted Stamos as saying.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Facebook was founded in 2004, with a mission to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.

People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what is going on in the world and to share and express what matters to them.

Facebook has 1.04 billion daily active users on average worldwide and 7.2 million daily visitors from Nigeria.

Nairaland GeneralRe: I Felt Like Absconding After I Took Over –buhari by Jahelastic(op): 7:39am On Nov 04, 2016

Nairaland GeneralI Felt Like Absconding After I Took Over –buhari by Jahelastic(op): 6:58am On Nov 04, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday admitted that at a point after he was inaugurated as the President in May 2015, he felt like running away.

He said he would have taken the decision because of the myriad of problems his administration inherited from past governments.

Buhari said this while addressing 68 Nigerians who participated in the Senior Executive Course 38 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, and the institute’s management staff at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President said consecutive administrations since 1999 realised what he called unprecedented resources because of the huge price of oil and the number of barrels being produced per day and yet the party in government during the period had nothing to show for it.

He said, “For 16 years and eight consecutive governments of the other party, you know that there was unprecedented revenue realised. Oil production, which can be verified, was 2.1 million barrels per day.

“Between 1999 and 2015, the average cost of each Nigerian barrel of oil was $100 per barrel. When we came, it fell to less than $30 per barrel and is now hovering between $40 and $50.

“Actually, I felt like absconding because 27 out of 36 states in Nigeria cannot pay salaries and we know they have no other source than to depend on salaries to pay rent and do other things.

“I asked if there were any savings and I was told there were no savings. I asked what they did on agriculture, power, rails and roads. There was nothing.

“You know more than I do because you move round. I have not been moving round since after the elections, but you do. How many of the Trunk A roads are still good enough? How many megawatts do we have although there are some elements of sabotage?”

The President added, “I was told the money was used to import food and fuel. I didn’t believe the answer and I still do not believe it. Up till now, a substantial number of people in the South-East eat garri and groundnut. In the South-West, they eat pounded yam, cassava, vegetables. In the North, they eat tuwo, which is made from any of the grains – millet, sorghum. They eat it in the night and warm it in the morning and eat it and take fura in the afternoon.  How many of those people can afford foreign food?

“Then, they said I should check out the petroleum sector. The legislature dedicated 445,000 barrels (of crude oil) per day for internal consumption and that is just 60 per cent of our requirements. I said okay, what of the 40 per cent? The marketers that are bringing it just present documents, papers are just stamped and monies are taken away.

“This is the type of things that the Nigerian elite are doing to our own country. When you go back, look at your colleagues and encourage them to be truly Nigerians.”

Buhari insisted that the economic recession currently being witnessed in the country was caused by the mismanagement of the nation’s economy.

“In the last one and half years of this administration, the economy has experienced some tough times, particularly with the decline in oil revenues, which has some harsh impacts on Nigerians at the grassroots.

“It is also important to note that the economic recession is not the making of this administration, but rather, a consequence of bad management of the economy in the past couple of decades. The recession is not limited to Nigeria – there are far, far worse cases than Nigeria.”

Buhari said his administration was committed to finding a lasting solution to the economic structural imbalance, urging Nigerians to have faith that the country would come out of recession vibrant and stronger.

The President said, “It is impossible for this administration to ignore the poor who made great sacrifice to bring us to government.

“Ours, more than any other government in the history of Nigeria, is a people’s government.  We therefore must and we will keep faith with the people.

“It is in this light that I wish to declare the commitment of this administration to the Sustainable Development Goals, most especially to ending extreme poverty in Nigeria.

“It is not going to be easy, but we are committed to dealing with the challenges in a decisive manner.”

In his remarks, the acting Director-General of NIPSS, Jonathan Juma, called the President’s attention to what he described as the precarious financial status of the institute.

He said the situation had degenerated to a point that the institute’s creditors were threatening legal actions.

He therefore sought for presidential intervention, adding that a decisive presidential intervention for a sustainable funding of NIPSS was required.

Foreign AffairsUS Election: Vote Clinton For Me, Obama Tells Americans by Jahelastic(op): 6:40pm On Nov 02, 2016
How do you gift your popularity to someone else? As Barack Obama rolls up his sleeves to ensure Hillary Clinton succeeds him in the White House, his argument increasingly boils down to a simple message: Do it for me.

With approval ratings almost unheard of for an outgoing leader — 54 percent, according to the latest Gallup average — the Democratic president is hitting the trail full-time to help Clinton lock in crucial battleground states in the final stretch of the race.

Obama’s time this week is devoted almost exclusively to drumming up the vote for his former secretary of state in a marathon that started Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, heading Wednesday to Raleigh, North Carolina, on to Miami and Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday and finally back to North Carolina’s Charlotte on Friday.

His stump speech is well-rehearsed. It starts with an avalanche of compliments for Hillary, summed up thus: “There has never been a man or a woman — not me, not Bill, nobody — more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America.”

And it includes an arsenal of pointed attacks on her rival Donald Trump, in a nutshell: “The Republican nominee is unfit to serve as president.”

But Obama — who is well aware that Clinton struggles to whip up passion in the electorate — also regularly takes the conversation into more personal territory, linking her political future to his own legacy.

“I ask you to do for Hillary Clinton what you did for me. I ask you to carry her the same way you carried me,” he urged supporters in his address to the Democratic National Convention in July.

A few weeks later, America’s first black president went further by urging African Americans to mobilize for Clinton — telling them he would “consider it a personal insult” if they fail to rally this time around.

– Turn out the black vote –

Black voters traditionally lean heavily Democratic in the United States — and more than 90 percent voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012.

The crucial question facing the 69-year-old Clinton is whether she can draw anywhere near the historic turnout levels among black voters seen for Obama.

And so the president is flooding the airwaves in the homestretch of the race, hammering home the point Wednesday morning on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, a radio program whose audience is largely African American.

Obama cited the data coming in from early voting states, and issued a wake-up call: “I’m going to be honest with you,” he said. “The Latino vote is up. Overall vote is up. But the African-American vote right now is not as solid as it needs to be.”

It is not unknown for a serving president to dive into the campaign for his succession, but the intensity of Obama’s involvement has no equivalent in recent American history.

“(Dwight) Eisenhower stressed continuity with (Richard) Nixon in 1960 and so did (Ronald) Reagan with (George H.W) Bush in 1988, but no other president has been quite so personal in his appeal before,” said Larry Sabato, a political analyst from the University of Virginia.

On Tuesday night, as he addressed a packed, youthful crowd at Capital University in Columbus, Obama urged the electorate that carried him to power to “work as hard for her as you worked for me.”

“She made me a better president and she didn’t ask for credit,” said the president, campaigning in shirt sleeves and plainly savoring the heady campaign atmosphere that will soon be behind him.

“I am asking you just what I asked you eight years ago. I am asking to believe in your ability to bring about change,” he said, urging the crowd, in an echo of his history-making 2008 campaign, to “Choose hope!”

CrimeMan Arrested For Raping, Impregnating 15-year-old Stepdaughter by Jahelastic(op): 9:37am On Nov 02, 2016
A 40-year-old man, Victor Emafolomi, has been detained by the police for allegedly raping his wife’s daughter, Keji.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect was apprehended on Sunday by the police from the Agbado division after the mother of the victim reported the case.

Keji (pseudonym) lived with her mother and Emafolomi on Olukososi Street, Jafa, Agbado, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Emafolomi was said to have raped Keji on two occasions in October, threatening to kill her if she informed her mother.

It was gathered that the first time she was raped, Keji was at a shop where she was learning hairdressing within the community when her stepfather called her on the telephone to come home to prepare lunch for him.

While the teenager was immersed in the cooking, Emafolomi reportedly descended on her and dragged her into the bedroom.

She said, “That afternoon, he was drunk. He beat me up when I resisted. I explained to him that he was like a father to me, but he didn’t listen.  He used a pillow to cover my mouth and raped me. He said he would kill me if I told my mother about the rape.

“Two days after, he had sex with me again. That evening, he beat me up because I insisted that I would tell my mother when she came back from work. He went out and came back with two men after about 30 minutes. The men stared at me and left. He said they would be monitoring my movement and that if I reveal what he did to me, they would kill me.”

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect left home after the second encounter and did not return until about two weeks later.

“Before the incident, he had warned a boy called Owolabi to stay away from me because he didn’t want us to have a relationship,” Keji added.

Keji’s mother, Taiwo, who told PUNCH Metrosaid she was abreast of the time her daughter usually menstruated, said she became worried last Tuesday, October 24, when Keji did not do so.

“I took her to a clinic in our area and it was confirmed that she was pregnant. I begged her to tell me who impregnated her, but she refused,” Taiwo said.

After much pestering, Keji was said to have confided in her mother, who reportedly passed out afterwards.

“I was very shocked, but I could not fault the revelation because my husband had abandoned home for some days and there was no misunderstanding between us. I think it was because of what he did,” she added.

However, the suspect, who hails from Delta State, refuted the allegations, saying it was Owolabi, who impregnated Keji.

He said, “I am a driver. I left home because my wife is stubborn; she doesn’t take corrections. I left home to punish her so that she would change for better.

“I never had sex with her daughter and I didn’t know anything about the pregnancy. I don’t want it aborted. When she is delivered of the baby, we will carry out a DNA test on the baby.”

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ambibola Oyeyemi, said the case would be transferred to the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

“The victim confirmed that the suspect had carnal knowledge of her several times and the pregnancy test conducted on her was positive,” he added.

Nairaland GeneralEFCC Accuses Judge Of Money Laundering by Jahelastic(op): 8:07am On Nov 02, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered a financial transaction amounting to N18m by Justice Rita Ngozi Ofili-Ajumogobia, one of the six judges under investigation.
Daily Trust gathered yesterday that the N18 million was wired to a foreign account from the judge’s domiciliary account for the purchase of a property in the United Kingdom.

EFCC sources said Ajumogbobia owned up to the money but claimed it was a loan obtained from a family friend.  “The ‘family friend’, who is chairman of an oil and gas company, has been invited by the EFCC for questioning,” the source said.

It added that: “So far, he had told operatives that the money was an assistance he rendered to her.”

The EFCC source said: “Inquiry into the loan facility as claimed by both of them showed no formal agreement or documentation as to how and when the repayment would be made.”

Nairaland GeneralKalu’s Comment Tears Ohanaeze Youths, MASSOB Apart by Jahelastic(op): 7:14am On Nov 02, 2016
The Ohanaeze Youth Council and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Tuesday reacted to former Abia State governor, Orji Kalu’s assertion that the Igbo people are better traders than politicians.

The groups, which spoke in separate interviews with our correspondent in Enugu, differed in their reactions to Kalu’s statement.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, asked the former governor to immediately apologise to the Igbo people and also retract his statement.

But the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra maintained that Kalu said the truth.

The Editor-in-Chief of The Interview magazine, Mr. Azubuike Ishiekwene, in a statement on Monday, quoted Kalu as saying, in a recent interview with the magazine, that the Igbo were not as good in politics as they were in trading.

“The Igbo have no discipline in terms of politics. They are very good traders; they’re good in anything they do, but they don’t understand politics,” Kalu was quoted to have said.

Reacting to the statement, the President, Ohanaeze Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, described Kalu’s statement as unbecoming of a two-term governor who was seen as an Igbo leader.

Isiguzoro said, “Orji Kalu should immediately apologise to Ndigbo for insulting the great Igbo nation.

“During the First Republic, Igbo people like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Michael Okpara and others were at the forefront of the independence movement. In the Second Republic, Igbo people like Dr. Alex Ekwueme were also at the forefront of national politics.

“It was when people like Kalu came to power that the Igbo began to lose ground, because he (Kalu) and his likes introduced traders’ mentality into the politics played by the Igbo at the national level.”

He added, “The statement, which is ridiculing Ndigbo, was not expected from somebody who was a two-term governor. Was Nnamdi Azikiwe a trader? Was Michael Okpara a trader? What of Odumegwu Ojukwu, Mbonu Ojike, Jaja Nwachukwu? Were they traders?”

Isiguzoro said Kalu had an opportunity to become a national political leader, like the All Progressives Congress national leader, Chief Bola Tinubu, but wasted it.

“When Tinubu was controlling only one state, Kalu was controlling two states. How did he (Kalu) lose the two states? It’s because of his poor management skills.  Ohanaeze youths don’t want to insult him because he is an elder, but he should apologise to Ndigbo.

“If he refuses to apologise, if he fails to retract that statement, we will put him in the dustbin of history and he will have no more relevance in Igboland,” Isiguzoro said

But the pro-Biafra group, MASSOB, insisted that Kalu said the truth. MASSOB spokesman, Samuel Edeson, who spoke with our correspondent, said the Igbo people were not good in politics.

Edeson said, “What Kalu said is the simple truth, there is no doubt about it. In politics, the Igbo are bad; there is no unity of purpose.

“For example, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party but at the same time he always defends Tinubu, who is of the APC. Fayose defends Tinubu because he knows that, as a fellow Yoruba, they are brothers.

“In politics, you should always be on the side of your brother, unlike what happened when Alex Ekwueme and Jim Nwobodo contested the PDP presidential ticket with Olusegun Obasanjo at the convention in Jos. Nwobodo went there and began to speak Hausa.

“The Hausa/Fulani man cannot do that to his brother, a Yoruba man cannot do that to his brother.  What the former governor (Kalu) said is the truth.”

Nairaland GeneralLASG Moves To Restructure Markets by Jahelastic(op): 6:44am On Nov 02, 2016
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Babatude Adejare, says government is committed to achieving well-organised markets, where sellers and goods or services will be sectionalised.

The commissioner, who spoke on Tuesday, said, “The move will eliminate the belief that it is when goods are sold by the roadsides that profit can be made.”

He said the policy of zero tolerance on street trading was still on, warning violators to desist or incur the wrath of the law which forbade anyone from converting the roadsides and setbacks to markets.

Adejare said the state water corporation had been rejuvenated, adding that it was working at maximum capacity.

He said, “Water supply in the state has been given a new lease of life as most of our waterworks such as Ishasi, Adiyan and Iju now produce and supply uninterrupted water to Lagosians.”

The commissioner said waste management would take a new dimension in the state as from 2017. He advised Lagosians to dispose waste properly and maintain a good sanitary attitude as the Yuletide approached.

“We are reforming waste; we are no longer going to do it the way we are used to. The government is also poised to control and eradicate diseases such as Lassa fever and malaria through our vector control programme,” he added.

Nairaland GeneralSkye Bank Sacks 50 More Workers by Jahelastic(op): 7:55am On Nov 01, 2016
About four months after it disengaged about 200 of its workers, Skye Bank Plc has retrenched about 50 members of staff, including those in outsourced and auxiliary functions.

Although the number of the affected non-core employees could not be ascertained since they were not direct workers of the bank, it was gathered that the reasons for their exit ranged from non-performance, disciplinary issues as well as rightsizing by the lender.

It was further gathered that most of the affected personnel were in outsourced functions like tellers, drivers and internal security guards.

When contacted on the development, the Head, Corporate and Brand Communication, Skye Bank, Mr. Nduneche Ezurike, confirmed the exit of the affected workers, adding that the management of the bank approved the payment of generous entitlements and severance packages to them as contained in their engagement letters and as agreed with the workers’ union.

The Central Bank of Nigeria had on July 4 sacked the Chairman, Skye Bank, Mr. Olatunde Ayeni; Managing Director, Timothy Oguntayo; Deputy Managing Director, Mrs. Amaka Onwughalu; non-executive directors, Mr. Victor Odozi, Mr. Babajide Agbabiaka, Dr. Jason Fadeyi, Mr. Kunle Aluko, Mr. Victor Adenigbagbe, Mr. Abdul Bello and Hajiya Amunna Lawan Ali; and the two longest-serving Executive Directors, Mr. Dotun Adeniyi and Mrs. Ibiye Ekong.

In their place, the CBN announced Alhaji Muhammad Ahmad as the new chairman, while Mr. Adetokunbo Abiru was also named as the new managing director.

Other members of the reconstituted board are Bayo Sanni, Idris Yakubu, Markie Idowu and Abimbola Izu, all of who had been serving as executive directors of the lender before now.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, had explained that the “proactive moves have become unavoidable in view of the persistent failure of Skye Bank to meet minimum thresholds in critical prudential and adequacy ratios, which has culminated in the bank’s permanent presence at the CBN lending window”.

The bank’s reconstituted Board was mandated to run a lean and efficient organisation; control costs; aggressively recover debts owed it; grow deposits; and shore up its liquidity position.

Nairaland GeneralPolice Deny Knowledge Of Anambra Sex Scandal by Jahelastic(op): 7:24am On Oct 31, 2016
The Anambra State Police Command on Saturday said it had no knowledge of the sex scandal involving the 2015 winner of the Miss Anambra competition, Chidimma Okeke.

Chidimma’s alleged lesbian video had gone viral on the social media shortly after she was abruptly dethroned last week by the organisers of the pageant, the Anambra Broadcasting Service.

Her lawyer, Ikenna Obidiegwu, had on Wednesday last week alleged that the Anambra Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Okaula, had denied his client (Chidimma) police protection for a press conference in Awka to state her side of the story.

He said, “The commissioner of police said the notice was too short, and that he could not mobilise police security for the queen immediately.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Nkeiru Nwode, in a telephone interview with our correspondent denied knowledge of the story.

She said, “I don’t know what you are talking about. I have not heard about the story. I’m hearing it for the first time from you.”

Chidimma’s lawyer told our correspondent on Sunday that he would hold a press conference this week to state all about the alleged sex scandal.

He denied the story that his client (Chidimma)had sought asylum abroad because of the scandal.

“I have said it repeatedly that my client, Chimmma, is in Nigeria. She is in Awka.

“We shall address a press conference this week to say everything about this issue. Chidimma is around,”Obidiegwu stated.

Nairaland GeneralMan Treks From Lagos To Zaria For Lover by Jahelastic(op): 6:51am On Oct 31, 2016
A 26-year-old man, Tunde Agbaje, has reportedly trekked from the Ketu area of Lagos State to Zaria in Kaduna State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Agbaje, who is the cousin of a former People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, went on the adventure to prove his love for a lady, Sharon Donald.

Our correspondent gathered that 26-year-old Donald is the daughter of a former governor of a state in the South-South and had recently travelled to New York, United States of America.

It was learnt that Agbaje and Donald had met in Ikoyi, Lagos State, and had been friends for the past six years, but she had turned down his marriage proposal several times.

Agbaje said he decided to trek to Zaria to prove his love for Donald, adding that he was on the road for 19 days.

The Lagos State indigene was reportedly received on Friday, October 21, by the Chief Security Officer of the Ahmadu Bello University, Col J.K. Tukur; and the protocol office of the Emir of Zaria.

He was later taken to a hospital where he was reportedly treated for the injuries he sustained during the trek, which was monitored by a GPS tracker.

Narrating how he met Donald, Agbaje said, “I was with my friends sometime in 2010 and while we were discussing about ladies, I said I wished God would just show me my wife anytime soon.

“About five minutes later, we were hungry and I went to get food on Awolowo Road. It was my first day at that eatery. I was waiting to be served when she walked in. Coincidentally, that day was also her first day there.  I observed that there was a love image at the back of the trousers she put on.

“She approached me and asked what she could buy and I advised her. We later exchanged contacts and became friends. That was how my love for her started growing. We met several times afterwards.”

Agbaje said some months later, he decided to open up on his feelings for Donald, but she turned him down.

He said he persisted, adding that when Donald didn’t bulge, he decided to do “what no man can do for her.”

“I chose to trek to Zaria because her parents dated for six years in ABU, Zaria, before they got married. I didn’t let my parents know and to ensure I was not disturbed, I changed my SIM card. I took a tracker along with me to monitor my movements. I never took a bus at any time. It was a tough task and I even collapsed some of the times. I took off from Ketu on October 2 and arrived in Zaria on Thursday, October 20, around 4.15pm.

“I have no regret for what I have done. I have proved my love for her, even though she didn’t reciprocate my feeling. I believe even if she gets married to another person, nobody will ever be able to do what I did for her,” Agbaje added.

Our correspondent was told that the CSO of ABU, Tukur, called Donald to ask if she was aware of Agbaje’s adventure, which she acknowledged.

She, however, didn’t state if she would accept his proposal.

The head of the protocol office of the Emir of Zaria, Mr. Abubakar Ladan, told our correspondent on the telephone that Agbaje was received at the palace. He added that the emir had stepped out when he arrived.

“I had a brief chat with him and after telling us his mission, we prayed for him and wished him the best,” he added.

When our correspondent contacted Donald, she said she knew Agbaje was embarking on the trek, adding that she warned him against it.

She said she had never had any relationship with him, describing him as a stalker.

She said, “Tunde (Agbaje) has been harassing and stalking me for the past six years and as far as I am concerned, this is just a new escapade in a series of his harassment.

“I met Tunde at a church when I was living in Lagos and we were both part of the youth ministry. He never had a friendship, let alone a relationship, with me. I was in a music group and some of the youths had my phone number, including him.

“He later found out where I lived and came to my house. My mum warned him to leave me alone, but he refused.   I changed my phone number and moved to the US, but I don’t know how he got my contact. I have stopped picking calls from Nigeria because of him.

“He later called me and said he was going to trek to prove his love for me in a non-violent way and I told him not to do it because he could die. I said that not because I cared, but just for Christian charity. This guy is mentally unstable, because how can you still be stalking a woman who has turned you down for six years?”

Nairaland GeneralLawyer Begs Court To Stop National Assets Sale by Jahelastic(op): 2:57pm On Oct 30, 2016
A Lagos-based lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, has urged a Federal High Court in Lagos to perpetually restrain President Muhammadu Buhari from executing his proposed plan to sell some national assets as a measure to tackle the economic doldrums in the country.

The lawyer said in his suit that Buhari planned to sell national assets such as the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Port Harcourt Refining Group Ltd, the Kaduna Refining Group Ltd, the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Ltd, the Africa Finance Corporation, the East West Rail Lines and the West African Gas Pipelines.

He, however, argued that the plan to sell the national assets was contravened the Public Enterprises (Privatisation and Commercial) Act 1999, particularly Section 1 (1)(2)(3) of the Act.

Akingbolu said Buhari had by his plan to sell the national assets admitted his failure and lack of ideas to deliver the country from the present economic and political doldrums.

Describing the national assets as the golden eggs and national heritage of the country, which formed a formidable base for Nigeria’s economic and social security, Akingbolu urged the court to stop Buhari before he dissipated them.

Joined in the suit as the 2nd defendant is the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN).

The plaintiff claimed that if Buhari was allowed to sell the national assets, the nation would be plunged into deeper economic and political woes.

The lawyer said, “Over the years, successive governments have sold off some of the national heritage in the name of privatisation by alleging that same will bring more economic gain to the nation, however the reverse has been the case.

“Some of these public enterprises have brought billions of naira to the government in the past and all that is required now to make them as productive as ever is for the government to be serious and instill discipline in the management of the enterprises.

“The economic situation in the country is already dire and if the national assets are sold, it will affect everybody and the country will have nothing to fall back on in terms of investment security.”

He urged the court to declare the plan to sell the national assets as wrongful and illegal, being a violation of the provision of the Public Enterprises (Privatisation and Commercial) Act 1999.

He also prayed the court to issue a perpetual injunction to restrain Buhari and Malami either by themselves, privies, allies, agents or any person however described, from selling off any of the nation’s assets listed above.

The suit has not been fixed for hearing.

CrimeKidnappers Release Victims, Abduct Those Who Came To Drop Ransom by Jahelastic(op): 10:22am On Oct 29, 2016
For members of a notorious kidnap gang operating in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, nothing could go wrong, but Wednesday, October 12, 2016 was the day the long arm of the law caught up with them.

The nine members of the gang, who were apprehended by the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team in a five-hour raid that day, said they were so efficient in their criminal operations that they once kidnapped four victims on the same day.

The afternoon raid led to the arrest of Daniel Gabriel (33), Alaso Igodo (25), Akeodi Aselemi (34), Ayibinmotei Livinus (25), Anikuroka Marshal (33), Biebele Elijah (34) Efiye Anda (34), Daniel Lessor (31) and Isaac Reuben (27), all living within the Port Harcourt metropolis.

The police said the gang was responsible for most of the kidnappings that took place within GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt, Borokiri General Area and YKC axis of Woji in Rivers State.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the string of events which led to the apprehension of the nine suspects started with the abduction of a woman identified as Mrs. Okotie, who was kidnapped few weeks ago opposite the Royal House of Grace Church in Port Harcourt.

The gang was said to have abducted her in the Mazda car they used as operational vehicle.

The victim told the police that she had told the suspects that she was not feeling fine but they did not listen to her.

Fortunately for Mrs. Okotie, the car broke down along the way and the leader of the gang named Blackie, called for another vehicle, a Nissan Primera, which arrived shortly after.

“But they did not know that we had got information about them. They were on their way to the Ornage Waterside when we intercepted them. As soon as they saw us, they fled and abandoned the woman in the car along with one of their rifles,” the source said.

Few days after the botched kidnapping of Mrs. Okotie, IRT operatives who were following up on a lead, arrested Gabriel, a taxi driver, around 2.pm on October 12.

When Gabriel, an Akwa-Ibom indigene living at Navy Market Borikiri, Port-Harcourt was taken in for questioning, he confessed that he had personally been involved in 15 kidnaps in the last few months in the state.

He then led the police to his house where five members of the gang were already planning another kidnap.

“When we got to his house, we arrested five of his gang members and from there, we proceeded to Enugu Waterfront where we arrested Anikuroka Marshal, the gang’s armourer.   The suspects also identified Diobele Elijah and Akodi Aselemi as their spies who go around town scouting for victims.  They confessed to have three AK47 rifles, two pistols, which they use in their operations,” a police source said.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that in one of the kidnaps carried out by the gang, on August 10, 2016, a pastor, Mrs. Luis Ubah and one Mr. Chika Ezenwa were abducted. The same day, the gang kidnapped a business woman, Mrs. Ubah in her store, they also grabbed another victim identified as Ezenwa who was with Ubah at the time.

The four victims were taken by the gang to the Indoki Estate Waterfront.

The source explained that while on their way to the waterfront, the gang encountered a police team and instantly opened fire on the policemen.

“Inspector David Ijosi and one Corporal Dike Ledee were injured by bullets in the attack. One was hit in the leg while another was hit in the neck and the kidnappers escaped into the Isaka creeks in Okrika,” the source said.

Soon after, the gang made contact with Ubah’s husband, Bishop Prince Ubah, from whom they demanded a N50m ransom for her freedom.

During the ensuing negotiation, the ransom for the release of the bishop’s wife was reduced to N2.8m and a place was agreed on for the family to drop the ransom.

But in a dramatic turn of events, when two brothers of the bishop, Onyeka Ani and Pastor Okezie Akara, took the money to the agreed place on August 25, 2016, 15 days after Mrs. Ubah was kidnapped, the gang members decided to release her along with Ezenwa but kidnapped the two brothers instead.

The police said they then demanded another N1m ransom from the bishop for his brothers. But N750, 000 was eventually paid for their release.

Police investigation also showed that in August 2016, the gang kidnapped one Nkechi at YKC Junction in Woji Town, Port Harcourt, and she was transported to the Woji Waterfront where they ferried her by speedboat to Kula community in Akukotoru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The woman was reportedly kept in captivity for two weeks and was released after a ransom of N2m was paid by her family.

In September, a victim identified as Coachie, who was abducted around Number One Stadium, Port Harcourt, was released after a ransom of N2.5m was paid.

In his statement, Gabriel explained that he came to Port Harcourt in 2015 and worked as a taxi driver but when things became difficult for him, he moved his family back home and joined his first kidnapping gang.

He said, “I met the members of the gang in March 2016. I was plying the Aba Road looking for passengers one day when they stopped me and entered my taxi.  They asked me to take them to Borikiri in Port Harcourt.

“When we got there, I was surprised that they paid me more than I demanded and I told them that I wanted to know more about them.   The leader who sat in front passenger seat then gave me his phone number and said he would like me to work with them.

“Few days later, they invited me to a hotel in Borikiri and told me what they did. In April, Blackie, the gang leader, called and asked that I should meet him in his hotel. When I got there, I met other members of the gang preparing for an operation. They showed me two bags containing guns and put it in my car. I then drove them to GRA in Port Harcourt.

“When we got there, the gang’s informant said we had missed the target, a woman, who had just left the place. While leaving, we saw a man driving a nice car and we kidnapped him. He was taken to the Indoki Estate Waterfront. We put him in a speed boat and took him to a camp across the river.”

Gabriel said they carried out many kidnappings and that in August 2016, when they kidnapped Mrs. Okotie, it was like God just wanted them to be caught.

According to him, he had no idea what happened to his car, which he converted from a taxi cab to the gang’s operational vehicle.

“When we were intercepted by the police that day, we left one gun in the car while escaping while Blackie escaped with one other rifle. He gave it to one of our boys, who normally kept our rifles. But after I was arrested, I took the police to the boy and they recovered the rifle and my cab,” he said.

However, in his confessional statement, Anda, a speed boat operator, said he got N200,000  each time he ferried the kidnappers and their victims to their camps across the river in his speed boat.

The suspect, a Bayelsa State indigene, said he was involved in pipeline vandalism and oil theft before the military destroyed the camps in which they “cook” the oil, referring to the numerous makeshift oil refineries that dot creeks where oil militants operate in the country.

“When I became jobless, my friends invited me to Port Harcourt to join the kidnapping business. I became their boat operator. Apart from the transport duty, I was also in charge of buying food for the gang members and the victims. I bought a speed boat with the money I have made so far,” Anda said.

Marshal (the gang’s armourer) on the other hand, said he was paid N40,000 per each operation.

The suspect, who is an indigene of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, said he usually kept the guns in an abandoned bus parked inside the Baptist Church field in Borokiri.

“I did not usually go out with them for the operations. My job is to keep the guns,” he said.

Another suspect, Elijah, a native of Okrika in Rivers State, said he was lured to the gang by his boss, whom he identified as Elvis.

According to him, his role was to assist Elvis to monitor the movement of their targets.

“There was a time I followed Elvis three times to spy on a woman we wanted to kidnap. We could not carry out the operation because our leader, Blackie did not come on time. I was also with him in GRA where we kidnapped the woman who was rescued by the police. Elvis had only been giving me little money since I started working with him. But he loved to buy me a lot of drinks,” he said.

The police said investigation on the scale of the operations of the gang was still on and that they were making efforts to arrest other members of the gang who are now underground.

Nairaland GeneralReligion Not Helping This Nation (nigeria) by Jahelastic(op): 9:20am On Oct 29, 2016
Nigeria as said is the giant of Africa and happened to have many kind of religion in it. As many as the religions are, what exactly is their usefulness in the community they are located?

Apart from preaching the Gosple, Deliverance and Breakthrough, what else do they have at hand to give people most especially, their members. To be realistics, they make lots and huge amount of money at every services they do especially on Fridays (Vigil) and Sundays (Thanksgiving).

With this huge amount of money they make every time, what help have they offered people in their community or even their members? And if they have plan of doing that, then, when exactly are they going to start doing that?

Personally, am sure they don't have much in plan for the community because if they do, how many days, weeks or months will it take them to plan it not to talk of when they plan starting it.

Lots of their members don't have food to eat, but still go to worship and still put their last kobo in the offering bags to act according to the Gosple being preached to them that the moment they do so, the Lord will open the window of Heaven to them and bless them mercifully.

What am trying to say here is that are religions looking into members welfare, community's welfare and most especially Nations welfare? They said they work for God, but the truth is that God didn't suffer people to make Gosple known to them.

In the Holy Bible, there is a passage where Jesus was preaching the Gosple, He later noticed the people He was preaching to are very hungry and that will affect them from paying attention to the preaching, and if at all they listen, they will not understand it just because they are hungry. He asked His deciples if they have food to feed the multitude of people? They answered Him no that what they have ( 5 loads of bread and 3 fishes) will not and can not feed all the 5,000 people.

Jesus told them to bring it, He prayed on it and they feed 5,000 people with it, and after they have eaten to the fullest, 5 basket was gathered of what is left and Jesus told them to bring it to him because notting must waste.

But in the present Religions of our time, all they do is to gather money and wealth for their own pocket and personal use. Let's take a look at religions schools and institutions as a very good example.

Nigeria Religions gather money from their members through different kind of contribution to have their schools and institutions built, from rich people, average people, and even from masses. All this people and family do join hands together in this contribution to sow seed to God and to be part of the school beneficiary by sending their children there, but never been given opportunity after warts.

Hardly can you see any church member's children in the school just because the fee is on a very high side and killing. To me, this is BAD!

Another way Religion can help this country is by subsidizing for the Nation's feeding. How do i mean?

Let's assume Nigerian Government agriculture want to sell a bag of rice at the rate of N10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira), the Religion leaders and rich people in the Nation can always come together  and tell government that they are ready to help the Nation by subsidizing for the rice at the rate of N5,000 (Five Thousand Naira) so that people can buy that same bag of rice at the rate of N5,000 (Five Thousand Naira). If this is been done, won't Nigerians be enjoying it? And same policy can also be applied to other goods in the Nation.

Religious leaders and rich people should please try and come together to move the Nation to the permanent site and stop making money for their own personal use and am very sure God will lift them high.

Just please give it a try!

Science/TechnologyNine Steps To Keep Smartphones From Being Hacked by Jahelastic(op): 12:01pm On Oct 28, 2016
Even if you keep your smartphone safe in your pocket or purse, it is still at risk for picking up a virus or leaking data to thieves. Hackers don’t need physical access to your phone to steal your personal information or infect the device with malware. They infiltrate your phone with innocent-looking apps or link it via unsecured Wi-Fi networks. However, you can keep hackers from getting the upper hand by taking the following steps to secure your smartphone:

Step 1

Lock your phone when you are not using it. Set a password and change it regularly to prevent others from guessing it. Lock patterns are an alternative if you have trouble remembering your password. Your phone may also have a facial-recognition lock feature. If this is on, the device unlocks only when the camera detects your face. Voice recognition is another option; with this turned on, your phone needs to hear your voice say a specific word or phrase to unlock.

Step 2

Activate your phone’s tracker capability, if it has one. If your phone supports this feature, you can see its location on a map and track the device when it moves. If your phone is stolen or lost, use the tracker app to lock it remotely. This makes it harder for hackers to access your data.

 Step 3

Update your phone’s firmware to the most current version. Many phones do this for you automatically, but if you have turned this option off, you will need to download the update manually. You can download the latest update directly from your phone. Alternatively, connect your phone to the computer and launch the software that came with the device. The application will connect to the download Web page and install the firmware on your phone.

Step 4

Install apps on your phone only if they come from a trusted source, such as the manufacturer’s app store. Most official app stores verify the authenticity of their products, so they are much safer. Before downloading any app, read the description and reviews so you understand what you are getting.

 Step 5

Check an app’s permissions before installing it. If an app requests access to your personal information, do not install it, simply deny the request.

 Step 6

Avoid leaving your phone alone in a public place, such as on a restaurant table or on your office desk. If you must leave the phone, keep it locked and hide it somewhere, such as in a drawer, to prevent theft.

 Step 7

Delete text messages from unknown senders that ask for your information, and avoid clicking links in messages. Some hackers send messages that appear to be from your bank or another trusted source. If you click the link in the message, the hacker can steal your information or install malware on the phone. Do not download apps via text message; this is a common way for hackers to infect your device.

 Step 8

Access the Internet on your phone only from a secure Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi networks that aren’t secure allow nearby hackers to intercept your data when you get online. Don’t do any shopping or banking on a public Wi-Fi network; hackers can swipe your bank account number or other financial information. Instant-messaging and other communications apps may contain security holes that allow hackers to snatch your personal data. If you have access to a cellular network, use it instead of public Wi-Fi.

 Step 9

Protect your phone with an antivirus app. Check your phone’s app store to see what’s available for your device.

TWO men, who claimed to be members of the family of the self-confessed wizard that ‘crashed his plantain leaf private jet’ into Ajogodo River, Sapele, Delta State, when the fuel finished, took him away, yesterday.

It will be recalled that the man discovered in the river, Wednesday, claimed to have been flying in what he called “Plantain Leaf” in the physical realm, but was “expensive private jet” in the coven, which crashed into Ajogodo River after the fuel finished.

According to him, “I was flying in what is known in the physical realm as plantain leaf. But it is actually my expensive private jet in the coven realm. It crashed me into this bridge, when the fuel in it finished. “My members will be here tonight to refuel it for me to continue my journey to the UK. I have to be in the UK to watch the UK football season, because there is economic recession, unemployment and inflation in Nigeria.”

However, two “family” members of the self-confessed wizard, came yesterday and pleaded with restive residents, who wanted to set him ablaze moments before their arrival, saying “we are from Idjerhe (Jesse) in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State. “He is our brother. He is a driver by trade and plies daily his taxi along the Benin/Sapele dual carriage way.

He lives in Benin mostly. “We heard about the incident through the news making the round. We came here to confirm it and it is true. Please we want you people to release him for us to take him home, because he now appears very weak.” The family members, in their 60s, who refused to disclose their names, also did not state the man’s marital status, declaring “this is our private family affair.

We are not going to tell you people any more information about our brother.” They zoomed off with him in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry car without number plates, at about 10a.m., yesterday. As they were leaving, the self-confessed wizard was heard saying, “I was not alone on the journey. There were others with their private jets, but luck ran against me when my fuel finished. The others are in UK now.”

A suspected leader of a car snatching syndicate in Aba, Abia State, identified as Ladislas Ukpabi, has said that he robbed to raise money to expand his poultry farm.

Ukpabi, who expressed regrets for his action in an interview with The PUNCH said, “I regret what I did. If I’m well funded, I can raise about 10,000 birds without losing one I’m not boasting about it, I can do that very well right from the hatchery to the laying point.”

It was gathered that the Police in its investigation arrested one Igwe Uloma who resides at No 1 Watch Tower Street by old express road Aba, in the process of re-registration of the stolen vehicle for one Obinna Nwokeji of Deeper Life Road, Umuada Uratta, Aba.

Obinna however claimed that he bought the vehicle from Ukpabi at the cost of N600,000 only, but later confessed to be a member of the syndicate.

CrimeI Joined Cult Group To Obtain Business Loan –hair Stylist by Jahelastic(op): 4:54pm On Oct 26, 2016
The Police in Abuja have arrested 12 suspected members of a cult group, Norsemen, who have been terrorising residents of Apo District, Abuja, for some time.

Items recovered from the boys, who are being detained at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad facility, include a locally fabricated rifle, three cutlasses and a knife.

The suspects, in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday, admitted to being members of the Norsemen cult, with each of them giving different reasons for joining the group.

A suspect, Fidelis Ogabor, said he was compelled to join the group as a precondition for a N200,000 business loan he needed to set up a hair salon.

He said he lost his job as a supervisor in a factory and approached one William for assistance, but the latter insisted that he would help him only if he became a member of the Norsemen cult.

Ogabor said that William gave him the loan after he joined the group, but noted that the cult’s kingpin mobilised some members to beat him up over his inability to settle the outstanding balance of N177,000.

He said, “William borrowed me the money after I joined Norsemen, I have paid him N23,000.”

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Anjuguri Manzah, said that since the arrest of the cultists, residents of Apo District now feel safe and secure, adding that detectives are on the trail of William and Bullion who are currently at large.

The Nigeria captain  has yet to play a single  Premier League match for the Stamford Bridge side  since the beginning  of the season.

Mikel revealed  on Monday  that  he had been working hard to  play his way back into the team.

“Fighting every day for my place, like all the guys are. Focus, work hard,” the 2013 Europa League winner  wrote  on Twitter.

Former Italy manager Conte is allegedly not happy with the 29-year-old for opting to represent Nigeria at the Rio  2016 Olympic Games, where he helped the national Under-23 team win bronze (Nigeria’s only medal at the competition).

Mikel, who was signed from Norwegian side Lyn Oslo by the then manager of Chelsea Jose Mourinho  in 2016,  has  however  turned in a pair of impressive performances for  the Super Eagles, guiding them to a 1-0 victory over Tanzania in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo in September   followed by  their 2-1 win against Zambia in their 2018 World Cup qualifier in Ndola on October 9.

With criticisms flying from all directions for his lack of match action at his London club, the 2012 UEFA Champions League winner, who got  plenty of playing time under Dutchman  Guus Hiddink, has apparently moved to save his club career.

Mikel is competing with in-form N’Golo Kante and  Nemanja Matic for a role  in defensive midfield and the player, who represented Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil,  confirmed on Tuesday he had  spoken to Conte about his frustrations at the club.

“I hope I will get some playing time against West Ham, but it is down to the manager,”  theEvening Standard quoted him as saying.

“He has been open and honest with me. I respect him for that. He has explained the situation and I totally understand.

“When you have been at a club for a long time, these things happen where a club wants to move forward.

“I just have to be professional, work as hard as I can to try and get into the team. I work twice as hard every day and it’s because I appreciate this club.”

Nairaland GeneralBoko Haram: Troops Arrest Nine Suspected Collaborators by Jahelastic(op): 4:40pm On Oct 25, 2016
Nigerian troops have arrested another nine suspects said to be aiding the Boko Haram sect in the North East Zone, bringing the number of those caught in the last two days to 30.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, the suspects included two officers, two soldiers, two policemen and 26 civilians.

Usman said that investigation carried out on the 21 suspected collaborators and saboteurs earlier arrested led to the nabbing of the nine.

“Many more suspects would be arrested and prosecuted based on evidences against them and level of culpability,’’ he said.

Usman described the suspects as ‘unpatriotic elements’ whose acts were ‘likely to jeopardise’ the collective efforts of clearing the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.

Nairaland GeneralFG May Increase Fuel Price As NNPC Says N145 Not Sustainable by Jahelastic(op): 11:31am On Oct 25, 2016
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has said it can no longer sustain the sale of petrol at N145 per litre.

Recall that Labour last month warned against increment in pump price.

Speaking yesterday, Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, said with the current price of foreign exchange, it was no longer feasible selling petrol at N145 per litre.

The NNPC official told newsmen at this year’s Oil Trading and Logistics Expo, holding in Lagos that “We have a very difficult business environment. It is impossible today to import products at the current market price, at current fixed foreign exchange rate.

“There is no way today you can take products to retailers and sell at N145. It is not possible.

“If that is true and I believe that it is, because we all go to the market, why can’t we sell above N145? That is where legislation should come in.

“I also know today that it is impossible for this government to announce tomorrow that petrol is about N150.

"This government cannot sustain it. That is the truth. The people will not accept that figure.

“That is why suppliers are not importing. Today, we are in subsidy regime, absolutely.

“There is no way you bring product today and sell at N145 and get back your money and make profit.

“That is not possible. You can see some marketers saying that fuel is N138.

“It is because they did not import. Somebody has taken the heat off the price.

“Because we (NNPC) have taken the heat and you buy from us, you can afford to go to the market and then put a ridiculous price.

“It is not possible because they did not import it.”

HealthWeight Loss: Carb-heavy Snacks That Can Help You Lose Weight by Jahelastic(op): 11:56am On Oct 24, 2016
If you’ve been on a weight-loss mission, you’ve probably received a lot of advice warning you against consuming carbohydrate-heavy foods right? While this is not completely bad advice, it assumes that all carbs are bad, which is not the case.

Your body does need some good carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables and whole grains to function efficiently.

“There is no reason to fear carbs, they are high in fibre and extremely satisfying. Plus, if you exercise, you need carbs for energy to fuel your workouts. It’s possible to cut out carbs entirely for a short period of time, but eventually, your body craves them which causes you to overdo your portion size when you start eating them again,” writes the author of Should I Scoop out My Bagel, Ilyse Schapiro.

So before you start reaching for the bad stuff, here are some carb-heavy snacks that will not hinder your weight-loss goals.

Roasted chickpeas

Chickpeas are a good carb and loaded with protein. Besides being a great snack, they are also quite delicious and satisfying. Unlike chips, which are a bad carb-heavy snack, chickpeas are low in calories and have no added fat.

Popcorn

A cup of popcorn is about 30 calories, so about three to four cups of popcorn as a snack is a good choice. Over and above this, popcorn is an appetite suppressor, which is great if you’re trying to lose weight.

Obviously, you do need to stay away from popcorn drenched in butter. Rather keep it simple. If you do want to add a bit of va-va-voom, you can spritz a bit of olive oil.

Green bananas

Green bananas are known to be high in resistant starch which increases satiety, meaning that you are full for longer.

Baked potato broccoli and cheese

If you want a really filling snack that almost feels like a full meal, baked potato with some broccoli and low-fat cheese is a perfect choice. The combination of the fibre from the potato and the protein from the broccoli will give you the energy you need without wreaking havoc on your weight goals.
