^^ Yes o. Everybody should be security conscious. Our politicians have gone haywire letting blood left, right and centre, just to capture power by all means. So sad.

ABUJA NEW YEAR EVE TRAGEDY - How Bombs Exploded, by Survivors

* ’Two men in dark suits bought drinks. Five minutes after they left, an explosion erupted from  where they sat’.
* We’re closing in on perpetrators -Jonathan.

The explosions at the Mami market of Mogadishu military barracks in Abuja on New Year’s Eve occurred shortly after the departure of two strange gentlemen in dark suits from a ‘drinking parlour,’ one of the victims has said.
The victim, who was receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Asokoro for bruises she sustained during the blast, told Sunday Trust last night that the unknown men had arrived at the bar after 6pm and shortly after they left, the explosion occurred.

The women, who wants to be identified as Mama Hajiya, explained thus: “We went to the opposite side of the bar and ordered for ‘roasted fish’. While we were waiting to be served,  one of the men, both in black suits, moved round and came to where we were. He touched my friend (a lady) on the shoulder and said he admired her attire.  He said he loved Nigeria and had been living abroad for some time. The men appeared well-behaved and spoke very good English. Because of that I found it difficult to trace their tribe or ethnic group in Nigeria,” the victim explained.

The surviors said the man returned to the bar where his colleague was sitting and, after a couple of minutes, they left the market place.
“Few minutes after their departure, a huge explosion occurred at the spot they sat. I was tossed to the sky by the explosion and when the smoke and dust resulting from the blast subsided, I saw several bodies on the ground in the pool of their blood. I sustained bruises in the head and cuts in the leg. I was also dumbfounded when I discovered that I was in torn clothing when I recuperated, almost unclothed. My pregnant sister-in-law, who came from Jos to visit me, and was lying near me in pool of blood.  Later, we were brought here (hospital) for treatment,” Mama Hajiya said.

Another account of how it happened: Mr Kunle Salako, elder brother a victim, the late Olarenwaju Nurain, said he was informed that his brother’s wife went to the market to buy some items, while her husband stayed back to assist her in the place since business was at its peak.

He said one man came in to drink a bottle of beer and left without collecting his bag under the table he sat.

“When the late Olarenwaju discovered the bag after 30 minutes, he held it up to tell other nearby shop owners of what he had just discovered. In a swift there was an explosion from the bag. He was killed,” Salako explained.

Among the injured was Esther Mbalisi, who went to Mammy Market to make purchases. Her right leg was amputated. She sustained broken head, badly bruised face and brutalised back.

Loyede Oyetunji, a civil servant, was also seen wriggling in pains as his face and body had severe burns.

Father, mother, daughter are victims: A sergeant in the Nigerian Army, Simi Fafunre, his wife, Folake, and their only five-year-old daughter, Adeola, are all writhing in excruciating pains at the Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja, after suffering from the New Year Eve explosion in the Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja.

The sergeant has lost his two legs. His left hand is also badly lacerated. His wife has fractures on both legs and right arm while the daughter suffers lacerations on the left leg. All of them were at the barracks to buy roasted fish, a popular delicacy in the place. They sat and were waiting to be served when all went boom!

Mr and Mrs Fafunre lost so much blood. At the time this reporter visited the hospital, they had been transfused several pints of blood. Though medical workers said the three were in stable condition, Mr and Mrs Fafunre could scarcely talk.

The wife was initially taken to the National Hospital, Abuja, but when it was learnt that both her husband and daughter were in Asokoro Hospital, she was transferred so she could be close to her family.

Mike Ogunlami also stopped to make purchases: If Mike Ogunlami had known that the Mogadishu Barracks would record this kind of tragedy, he would have simply driven past. But without any premonition, he stopped over just to buy few household items when he became a victim.

He sustained fracture on both legs and bruises on his face and chest. He lost so much blood that three pints of blood were transfused into his bloodstream. He was moved from the Accident and Emergency Unit of Asokoro Hospital to the Male Ward yesterday evening.

His wife told our reporter that she did not see him up till late in the night. She tried phoning him but his line could not connect.

She said it was around 12:00 midnight that she heard from neighbours that there was a bomb explosion. By the time she got to the hospital, it was 3:00am and behold she met her husband covered in blood.

She said her husband told her that he spotted an object spinning and digging a hole in the earth only about a metre away from him. The device suddenly shot out and then the big bang,

Joy Dawiso, a fishmonger was hurled in the air: Joy Dawiso who is from Okpella, Edo State sells fish where it happened. She was writhing in pains when this reporter visited the hospital. She could not talk, but her relation who was by her bedside said she (Dawiso) told her that she (Dawiso) saw people running, and before she could decipher what went wrong, she was violently hurled in the air and thrown to the ground. She suffered wounds—no fractures.

Gabriel Agbo went to see a friend: Gabriel Agbo who is an indigene of Benue State went to the barracks to see a friend. He is too much in a trauma to talk. He broke both legs. His head was equally bandaged, meaning that he had injuries there too. Bruises were all over him.

As at yesterday afternoon, he was still in the Accident and Emergency Unit of Asokoro Hospital, receiving help from doctors and nurses. A relative who was there said Agbo is a student of Kugbo Secondary School in One Man Village. One Man Village is one of the settlements along the Abuja-Keffi high way.

Defence ministry to engage foreign experts: The Minister of Defence, Kayode Adetokunbo has said the bomb might have been detonated to create insecurity because of the coming elections.

He said government would employ the services of foreign experts and deploy security forces either overtly or covertly, adding that government was aware that the perpetuators live among Nigerians and will be fished out.

The minister disclosed that all the 26 injured victims were being treated at government facilities.

Minister escapes bomb blast: Minister of State for FCT, Retired Captain Caleb Olubolade, Friday night narrowly escaped being trapped  when a second bomb exploded three hours after the first detonated at Mammy Market in Mogadishu Barracks.

The minister, who had rushed to the scene, inspected damaged stalls. Vehicles in his entourage were about reversing when the second bomb exploded. This caused pandemonium as people ran for safety. This was at 10:30 pm.

Policemen from the bomb disposal unit rushed to the scene to control the situation.

After the second blast, a military van with loud speaker moved round the barracks, warning military personnel and their families at Block 1 to evacuate their apartments because of the proximity of the block to the market.

Police vow to identify bombers: The Inspector General of Police Hafiz Abubakar Ringim said the people behind the explosions at the Mogadishu army barracks in Abuja will be identified.

The IGP said in a statement the attacks carried out in some parts of the country, particularly in Plateau, Borno and Bayelsa States as well as the FCT, through the use of improvised explosive devices was the handiwork of few misguided citizens.  “The intention, no doubt, is to create the impression that government and, indeed, the security agencies cannot guarantee the safety of Nigerians. Appropriate measures have been duly activated and all those involved in these heinous acts will be rounded up and made to face the law soon.”

He said people should go about their normal businesses without hindrance.  He added that “People with useful information on any suspicious persons should not hesitate to avail same to the security agencies.  Any suspicious parcels, bags, packages or other receptacles should be promptly reported to the Police.

“So far four (4) persons are confirmed dead while the 21 injured and currently receiving adequate medical attention,” he said.

This shows that IBB is strongly committed to the consensus agreement. . . . . GEJ will meet his political waterloo at the PDP presidential primary. I really pity the him.
Do you think so? Don't underate "maradona". From my observation, IBB followers on this forum are moving support to BUHARI instead of ATIKU. Which means that the foot soldiers have gone to prepare ground for the big masquerade, IBB to move in. Just watch.

I see that IBB wants to fulfil the quest for a Northern President through another party, not PDP, after destroying PDP. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

I can feel your frustrations. But definately, some will make it. Remember what happened during the time of Noah. There are Noahs in Naija that will make it with their family. Remember Sodom and Gommorah. There are Abrahams and Lots that wll make it. Just try to be a Noah, or an Abraham or Lot and you will make it. God knows his own. Selah. grin grin
