Running a business in Nigeria isn’t just about providing quality products or services; it’s also about making sure you get paid on time. Too often, business owners find themselves chasing payments, sending repeated reminders, and struggling with cash flow gaps. According to a PwC report, 48% of Nigerian SMEs experience delayed payments, which can disrupt operations, affect salaries, and slow down business growth. But the real cost of these delays isn’t just the stress of waiting—it’s the uncertainty it creates. Businesses struggle to plan ahead, restock inventory, pay workers, or even keep the lights on. Without predictable payments, expansion is nearly impossible, and owners are left firefighting short-term financial struggles rather than focusing on growth. If you’re tired of chasing customers for money, here are seven simple ways to ensure you get paid on time—without the stress. The seventh tip includes a newly unveiled tech tool. 1. Set Clear Payment Terms from the Start One of the biggest reasons payments are delayed is because customers aren’t sure when or how to pay. Avoid this by clearly outlining payment terms before any transaction. Let customers know the exact due date, acceptable payment methods, and any penalties for late payments. For businesses offering services, a simple invoice with clear terms helps. If you run a school, cooperative, or subscription-based service, structuring payments with due dates reduces confusion. When expectations are clear, payments are more likely to come in on time. 2. Request Upfront or Part Payments Rather than waiting until the end of a service period to get paid, consider requesting a percentage of the payment upfront. This ensures that customers are financially committed from the start. For example, if you run a catering business, you can require 50% of the payment before sourcing ingredients. Schools can structure fees into manageable installment plans to encourage parents to pay in advance. When customers have already invested in your service, they are more likely to complete payments on time. 3. Automate Payment Reminders People get busy, and sometimes, late payments are due to forgetfulness rather than unwillingness to pay. Sending reminders before due dates can prevent this. Instead of calling each customer individually, use automated reminders via SMS, WhatsApp, or email. For instance, a gym owner can schedule monthly reminders for members before their subscription renewal. Cooperatives collecting monthly contributions can send automatic alerts to remind members of upcoming payments. A simple nudge at the right time can make all the difference. 4. Reward Reliable Customers Sometimes, the best way to encourage timely payments is to reward the customers who consistently pay on time. This creates an incentive for others to follow suit while reinforcing good payment habits. For example, a school could offer early payment discounts for parents who settle fees before term starts. A business that provides services on credit could prioritize loyal customers for special deals or extended services. When customers know there’s a benefit to paying on time, they’re more likely to make it a habit. 5. Offer Discounts for Early Payments Everyone loves a good deal, and small incentives can go a long way in encouraging customers to pay on time. Consider offering a small discount for customers who pay early. For example, a school can offer a 5% discount on fees paid before the term starts. Landlords can offer a slight reduction on rent if tenants pay before the due date. Small rewards create urgency, motivating customers to settle payments quickly. 6. Enforce Late Payment Penalties (But Politely) While incentives encourage early payments, penalties discourage late ones. Establishing a small late fee can push customers to prioritize your payment over others. However, the key is to communicate it upfront and enforce it politely. For instance, a tailor can state that late balance payments will result in an extra charge per day. A cooperative can apply an administrative fee for overdue contributions. Many businesses use “grace periods” before applying penalties to give customers a fair chance. It’s about striking a balance between being firm and maintaining good customer relationships. 7. Use PaywithAccount to Automate and Secure Your Payments Even with all the right steps in place, managing collections manually can still be time-consuming and stressful. That’s why OnePipe launched PaywithAccount two weeks ago—to help Nigerian businesses get paid on time without the hassle. PaywithAccount allows businesses to automate payments, ensuring funds are collected directly from customer accounts without the need for follow-ups. This means fewer delays, predictable cash flow, and no more awkward reminders. By eliminating the inefficiencies of traditional payment methods, businesses can focus on what truly matters—growth and customer satisfaction. Whether you run a school, a cooperative, a gym, or any business that relies on scheduled payments, PaywithAccount simplifies collections and provides peace of mind. Learn more at paywithaccount.com/signup. In conclusion, late payments can be frustrating, but they don’t have to be the norm. By setting clear expectations, offering flexible options, and using the right tools, you can ensure steady cash flow without stress. The most successful businesses don’t waste time running after payments—they set up systems that make payments run smoothly. With the right strategy in place, you can focus less on collecting money and more on growing your business.

In a continued effort to empower young Nigerians as active participants in the nation’s development, Young Professionals for Tinubu (YP4T) brought together 1,200 young Nigerians for a Civic Participation Workshop, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to take on active roles in shaping Nigeria’s future. Founded in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for economic transformation, YP4T continues to establish itself as a mobilizing force for young professionals committed to driving national progress. The workshop featured dynamic and interactive sessions on policy making and advocacy, digital citizenship and social media activism, leadership and public speaking, and understanding government and the constitution. Participants had the opportunity to engage with experienced facilitators, ask critical questions about how to better integrate into political and civic spaces at both local and national levels, and receive practical guidance on how to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s development. A resounding theme that emerged throughout the event was the growing number of young Nigerians approaching voting age, with speakers and facilitators emphasizing the urgent need for them to ensure they are registered to vote. The discussions reinforced the principle that active civic engagement begins with exercising the fundamental right to vote, ensuring that young voices are represented in shaping the country’s future. The workshop concluded with a compelling panel discussion led by YP4T Regional Director, Mr. Alex Oware, who engaged Mr. Wale Fadare, Personal Assistant to the President on General Duties, in a conversation about what true nation-building requires from young Nigerians. Speaking on the importance of participation, Mr. Fadare stressed: "True transformation is a collective effort. Young Nigerians have the energy and vision to drive change, and it is vital that we all work together to build a stronger, more resilient nation. A crucial part of this is making sure that more young people take their civic responsibilities seriously, from understanding governance to ensuring they are registered to vote." The event marks a significant moment for YP4T, which recently surpassed 3,000 registered young professionals dedicated to supporting and advancing the policies of President Tinubu. This growing community reflects a shared commitment to ensuring young people are not just beneficiaries of development, but key architects of Nigeria’s progress. Further reinforcing this commitment, YP4T announced an upcoming Educational Grant Program that will support 100 final-year secondary school students across Nigeria with funds for their final certificate examinations. This initiative seeks to remove financial barriers for promising students, ensuring they have the opportunity to complete their education and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth. Speaking on the significance of the program, Alex Oware, Regional Director for YP4T, stated: "Education is the foundation upon which strong nations are built. By supporting 100 young Nigerians in their final year of secondary school, we are not only investing in their future but in the future of the country itself. This grant represents an opportunity for these students to complete a critical stage of their education, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress. We believe that empowering young minds today will yield leaders who drive innovation, governance, and prosperity tomorrow." By fostering leadership, civic responsibility, and policy engagement, YP4T is strengthening the economic, technological, and entrepreneurial landscape of Nigeria. This workshop and the forthcoming grant program reaffirm the organization’s mission: to empower young professionals not just to envision change, but to actively shape it. Nigeria’s growing investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation is positioning the country as one of Africa’s most ambitious tech-driven economies, with AI projected to contribute $15 billion to Nigeria’s economy by 2030. As global technology companies deepen their focus on Africa, Young Professionals for Tinubu (YP4T) has acknowledged the deliberate policy moves by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to ensure AI becomes a real driver of economic growth, job creation, and youth empowerment. Following the President’s high-level discussions with global technology leaders, including his recent meeting with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, there is increasing recognition that Nigeria is taking active steps to secure its place in the global AI economy. But beyond diplomatic engagements, the administration has backed its vision with tangible programs that are already making an impact. The 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative has already begun producing a pipeline of AI-trained professionals, while the National AI Strategy Framework has laid the groundwork for AI integration across finance, agriculture, healthcare, and education. The administration’s efforts to attract investment into Nigeria’s AI and technology ecosystem have also led to direct support for startups and digital enterprises, ensuring young Nigerians have access to the resources and capital necessary to innovate and compete internationally. Global partnerships with companies such as Microsoft, Meta, and Nvidia have further reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to AI as a pillar for economic transformation. "AI is no longer a theoretical concept—it is a defining force in global economies, and Nigeria is now actively securing its place in that future," said Victor Benjamin, West/South South Director of YP4T. "For years, young Nigerians have sought opportunities in technology and digital innovation. What we are seeing now is a deliberate effort by the administration to turn that aspiration into reality through strategic policies, funding, and industry collaboration. This is a critical time for Nigerian professionals and businesses to position themselves in the AI-driven economy." While many African economies continue to grapple with integrating AI and digital transformation into their long-term growth plans, Nigeria’s current trajectory signals a shift toward becoming a leader in AI adoption and development. The impact of AI is already being felt in precision agriculture, AI-driven financial inclusion, digital healthcare, and education technology, demonstrating how these investments are directly improving productivity, economic diversification, and access to essential services. However, experts warn that Nigeria must sustain these efforts to fully unlock the potential of AI-driven growth. With a youth population expected to exceed 100 million by 2050, ensuring that young professionals have the skills, tools, and infrastructure to build AI-powered solutions is key to job creation and economic stability. "As a network of young professionals actively engaged in shaping Nigeria’s future, we see these investments as fundamental to building a globally competitive workforce," continued Benjamin. "This is not just about innovation; this is about securing economic opportunities for millions of young Nigerians. AI and digital transformation must be central to Nigeria’s long-term growth strategy, and every young Nigerian should be paying attention to these opportunities." With AI projected to add billions to Nigeria’s GDP in the coming years, industry stakeholders, government institutions, and the private sector must work together to ensure these initiatives translate into real economic gains. As Nigeria continues to attract international AI investment, YP4T remains committed to mobilizing young Nigerians to engage, innovate, and lead in this digital revolution. – Ends – For Media Inquiries, Contact: info@ivipr.com.ng

Fragvest, an innovative real estate investment platform, is reshaping the industry by making property ownership as simple, affordable, and accessible as buying stocks. At the core of Fragvest’s offering is its fractional ownership model, which enables individuals to invest in high-value real estate for as little as ₦10,000. Similar to owning shares in a company, investors can purchase a “frag”—a fractional stake in a real property. This approach allows individuals to co-own luxury apartments, commercial spaces, and shortlet properties in Nigeria’s most desirable locations, eliminating the traditional barriers of high capital requirements, property management complexities, and legal hurdles. How It Works Fragvest’s model is designed to be simple and user-friendly: Browse Properties: Explore a curated selection of high-value real estate on the platform. Buy a Frag: Purchase a portion of a property based on your budget. Earn from Rent: As the property generates income, you earn your share of the rental yield. Sell Your Frags: Cash out anytime by selling your frags, potentially profiting from property appreciation. The process is simple and straighforward. Investors can browse curated properties on the platform, purchase fractional stakes (called “frags”) based on their budget, and earn a share of rental income as the property generates revenue. If the property appreciates in value, investors can sell their frags at any time for potential profit. Fragvest also handles all property management, ensuring a hassle-free experience for investors. “We’re breaking the myth that real estate is only for the wealthy,” says Tomiwa Olaifa, Co-founder of Fragvest. “With Fragvest, everyday Nigerians—Gen-Zs, freelancers, salaried workers, and even those in the diaspora—can own a share of real estate and earn rental income without ever lifting a brick.” The platform is specifically designed to empower young professionals who have disposable income but lack the capital or expertise to invest in full properties. “Our mission is clear: to make real estate ownership accessible to all. Too many young professionals earn well but struggle to navigate smart investment opportunities. At Fragvest, we aim to bridge the gap between their income and sustainable, long-term wealth creation,” says Bayo Durodola, of Co-founder/Managing Director, Fragvest. Fragvest is already gaining significant traction in key cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, offering premium properties such as The Rock Apartment, a ₦180 million shortlet property available for co-ownership. With 100 sales agents onboarded to drive property sales, the platform is not only transforming how Nigerians approach real estate but also creating a pathway for inclusive economic growth. As proptech adoption grows across Africa, Fragvest is betting big on a future where anyone, regardless of financial status, can build wealth through real estate. Whether you’re a young professional, freelancer, or diaspora Nigerian, Fragvest offers a simple, stress-free way to own a piece of prime real estate and secure your financial future. “Education and community are the pillars of progress in Web3.” This isn’t just a catchy phrase; it’s the driving philosophy behind John Ojelola’s tireless efforts to shape Nigeria’s blockchain landscape. For over a decade, John has been a central figure in the country’s burgeoning Web3 ecosystem, not merely as an observer, but as an active builder, educator, and community leader. His journey, marked by a deep commitment to empowering individuals and organizations, has culminated in the creation of JTConnect, a platform dedicated to empowering individuals and brands within the Web3 ecosystem. We’re seeing a growing interest in Web3 across Africa. According to a 2024 report by Chainalysis, Sub-Saharan Africa saw modest growth, receiving an estimated $125 billion in on-chain value, a $7.5 billion increase compared to 2023. The report showed that Nigeria claimed the second spot on the list of countries leading crypto adoption globally, having received approximately $59 billion in cryptocurrency value between July 2023 and June 2024. This growth underscores the need for continuous education and community building to ensure sustainable and inclusive development. This high adoption rate highlights the importance of fostering a well-informed community to navigate the complexities of the Web3 space. Recognising the need for a more structured and comprehensive approach to fostering Web3 adoption, John Ojelola, also known as John Lee launched JTConnect. This platform represents the culmination of his years of experience and a clear vision for the future. JTConnect isn’t just another Web3 company; it’s a holistic ecosystem designed to empower individuals and brands alike. The platform offers a range of services, including Web3 education, community building, and user acquisition strategies, addressing the key challenges faced by those navigating this complex landscape. Responsible media is a key ingredient for healthy democracy. This statement is a truism that cannot be refuted by any logical mind. The media plays a very vital role of not only disseminating information but also that of guiding thought processes and providing decison taking inputs as we drive towards the very incisive element in the democratic process of making choices while still helping to maintain a healthy engagement within the process. We are expected to choose our candidates based on our clinical assesments of his capacity, his programmes amongst other such variables and it is the media that provides the vehicle with which the very important ingredient - information is delivered to the electorate. So you can imagine my deep worry when certain elements of the media ran with the obviously wrong interpretation of the recent judgement of a Federal High Court on the 378 delegates in the February 22 PDP primary elections in Edo State. The headlines were bold and daring. They screamed in their vacousness the alleged disqualification of Mr Ighodalo who was and is still the bona fide candidate of the PDP in Edo State. With the way the media has evolved in the last 20years, standards have really dropped leading to irresponsible reporting driven in some cases by citizen journalism. Today, everybody with N100 data is reporting, analysing and disseminating News usually with dire consequences as a result of the inpurity that is being pushed out. But sadly, what was really alarming in this particular case, was the involvement of what I would want to call responsible media outlets in this fraud A TV station who prides itself as a 16 time award winning station despite their open Channels also joined in this charade. It led its reporting of the issue with the banal - Asue Ighodalo is disqualified dirge. This was quite disappointing and disgraceful to say the least cos the CTC of the ruling is there for all to see. The CTC did not in any way allude to the disqualification of Mr Ighodalo who I must say is the front runner in the campaigns but instead stated very clearly that the delegates were lawfully elected and as such must participate as Ad Hoc ward delegates emphasizing asherence to the PDP constitution and the electoral act of 2022. How this translates to his disqualification even in my unlettered eye continues to beat my imagination. This deliberate attempt at falsifying an obviously well researched judgement by certain sections of the media could if not well engaged go a long way to reorder the inevitable flow of support towards Mr Ighodalo's candidacy But luckily, the campaign has come out with a strongly worded statement which has particularly and forcefully re affirmed his candidacy while also taking its time to put the judgement in its proper context. Furthermore, in my discussions with top members of the campaign, it was very clear that the leadership of the campaign is not loosing sleep over this but instead has remained very focused in pursuing its assured agenda of winning the elections. For me as a concerned observer, my prayer remains that the media would remain responsible to its ethics and push very professionally the very strong ethos of balance and accurate reporting as we head towards the very critical parts of this journey. This prayer I dare say is for both mainstream media outlets and the myriad of citizen driven media outlets nestled very comfortably within the ambits of a very wild and oft ireoressible Social Media enclave. Thanks Duke of Shomolu 10 |
‘N20m And I Open My Legs’: The Battle Of The Podcasts – A Perspective By The Duke Of Shomolu On The Muvmnt Studio It has been a heated session this morning behind the scene of my podcast – Duke Rants on the Muvmnt Studio. On the back of that explosive interview granted by another podcast by a young apparently misguided youth, my back up team had expressed the desire for us to jump on that train to entertain conversations with her ilk or at worst get a guest that will counter. But Tosh, the hardworking head honcho and visioneer who brought together the Dukes Rants would have none of that. For her, The Muvmnt Studios, the umbrella platform for the Dukes rants and the other podcast which deals with life issues were designed to uphold certain values, tendencies and ethos none of which would align with that train wreck of a conversation. For those of you who have not seen the interview, let me rehash. She alluded to the fact that money was everything and that ‘as you talk to me, u must have N500k to spend, you must pay for my skin, cos skin care is very expensive’. In response to another question, she goes – with N20m, i will open my legs for you, at least one time. She now goes on and on about money being the essence of her puny life, bombing her listeners with a homily on money, money, money as the main driving force of her life. You must give me a reason to leave my man and that reason is money. If you credit my account with money, that will give me an excuse to leave my man. She continued.. you must pay for my beauty. Yes, you must, cos beauty is not cheap. If i want to get married today, i will, she shouts in a boast. Can i open my DM, she dares, so you see the number of men begging for my hand in marriage. Now this interview has gone haywire, it has now become the talk of the town eliciting all sort of reactions up to this morning and up at our podcast back end meeting. I, for one, do not believe this reality. I think it’s a script written to garner attention and drive traffic. To me, that was a brilliant performance carried with the confidence of a well trained actress. But tarry awhile, what if for a second she is danm serious. I know there are a lot of women with those kinds of tendencies, and i have met some. Women who believe money can do anything, including opening their legs for jobs, contracts, lifestyle, and everything. These women abound and are very audacious about their outlook towards life. But for me, today, it throws up a different kind of debate – the debate of the podcasts. Now, how many of u remember Jerry Springer, the trashy, very popular talkshow that took the world by storm. All sorts of people came out of the woodworks to display all sort of depravity and even beat themselves up on stage and trash talked themselves all to the glee of the producers and audience with their eye on ratings. Now juxtapose this with the Oprah Winfery show. Oprah was sexy and classy. It was artsy and very influential. Appealed to the clean mainstream audience who were aspirational and literary in approach. The Oprah Book club pushed a lot of books to the best seller list and didnt rely on sex or any of those gutter tactics to maintain relevance and this is where we are at the Muvmnt Studios with The Dukes Rant. In designing the podcast, Tosh and i looked at the plethora of podcasts that now litter social media. There are so many to even contemplate, most targeting the same demographic and the sex and scandal driven madness that is the digital market. We knew we would not want to compete in that space, so we designed something looking more towards Oprah but more edgy. Something more punchy than Oprah with those – where did that come from questions, that shocks the audience but pulls the mischief from the otherwise serious guests. In choosing the guests , we looked for sophistication, class, and much more importantly, influence and depth. From Pastor Itua thru Timi Dakolo and Tonye Cole and the very influentially brilliant Dele Momodu care has been taken to pull in a very strict but sweet coterie of guests that will push our goal of delivering a very impactful message. Now see the Ruth Osime interview and juxtapose it with this little girl who is trending as we speak. Ruth is an iconic figure in media and fashion. At 60, she has garnered enough weight in society, that her engagenents can only be one of the most profound experiences ever. That interview, sweetly touched on some very critical issues from adult sex towards the evolution of media, style, and relationships to mention a few Now, we will not fool ourselves to think that such topics as discussed with Ruth, or the ever so brillinat experiences between the last days of immortal MKO, or the beautiful renditions of yoruba folk tales delving into mythical poetry or Ituahs reflection on the day he lost his wife or Timi Dakolo’s almost spiritual odyssey in making those songs and lastly Laide’s mad exposition on the role of DNA in illicit affairs would resonate with the fickle demographics who just want to run with sex, scandal and drugs as fuel for engagement. So, for us at Muvmnt Studio we are are looking for more sustainable impact, pushing through a more serious demographic and engaging with very engaged guests as we carve out a distinct positioning in an otherwise very mad creative space. Watch out for my talks with Seun Kuti and Kehinde Bankole. Thanks Duke of Shomolu

It is very curious that Governor Seyi Makinde referenced the petition signed and dated 3rd of February on a letter that he signed on the 2nd of February. Abeg, who is fooling who? This whole thing is being orchestrated by the inglorious G5 governors who sabotaged PDP at national who want to again sabotage PDP in Edo state. They have never wished the party well and this is another example. Recall that they recently pledged to deliver Jagaban back to power. As usual, they will continue to FAIL. We call on all law-abiding members of our party to turn out enmasse and vote for delegates of their choice today, 4th February 2024. Let's take our destiny into ou. .mr hands and take our party back from a handful of self-seeking people who have shown time and time again that they have no interest in helping ordinary people.

Some 48 hours ago, we got information that there were active accounts/wallets on our OPay app, which the owners alleged had been created without their knowledge and/or consent. We had then immediately commenced an investigation to determine the authenticity of these claims as all OPay wallets are adequately registered in line with regulatory requirements. Based on our investigation, we discovered that these accounts were indeed opened by the owners at different times, but generally between 2019/2020. When contacted by our team, some of the individuals have, however, claimed not to remember whether/when they opened the account. At least four of the complaints received via social media have been checked, and all four of them have been contacted to resolve the concerns raised. It is imperative to note that some of these accounts have had no balance in them since they were opened. As a law abiding, strictly regulated entity, we have unquivocally inquired of these individuals if they would like to retain the accounts, and we obliged based on their responses. I would like to say that the OPay wallet can only be opened through the CBN-established registration process which requires the input of an OTP authentication (one-time password) and ID authentication from the user’s phone to proceed. It is also important to note that OPay has never created (nor does it operate) any account on behalf of any individual. On a final note, we would like to encourage any individual with similar concerns to contact us via any of our official channels, and the issues will be resolved promptly. As a brand, we place utmost priority on our customers' needs and pride ourselves as a regulatory-compliant organization. Adekunle Adeyemi, Head of Marketing OPay Digital Services Limited.

In a shocking revelation, an illicit scheme involving the issuance of fraudulent healthcare worker Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) has come to light, with over 40 unsuspecting applicants falling victim to the scam. Monsurat Temidayo Awodein, a student who arrived in the UK last year to pursue a master's degree at the University of Dundee, Scotland, is allegedly at the center of this deceitful operation. Awodein, who recently applied for a two-year post-study visa, is suspected of collaborating with an illegitimate firm to defraud applicants by providing them with counterfeit CoS documents. These documents were purportedly issued in the name of reputable UK-based domiciliary care providers, such as Amazing Angels Care Limited, located in Dartford. Investigations reveal that Awodein, in conjunction with the illegal firm, used various channels to recruit unsuspecting applicants. She utilized her WhatsApp contact number, +234 809 944 9596, as well as a UK phone number, 07405484819, to lure victims into the scheme. A forensic examination of her phone is expected to reveal evidence of her involvement, including a list of the fake CoS documents she forwarded to applicants. The victims, seeking legitimate opportunities in the healthcare sector, were intentionally deceived by Awodein and the fraudulent scheme. It is believed that her pending post-study visa application with the Home Office may have served as a cover for her illegal activities. Authorities are urging anyone who may have been approached by Awodein or fallen prey to this scam to come forward and provide any pertinent information that could aid in the investigation. The Home Office and law enforcement agencies are actively collaborating to dismantle the operation and bring those responsible to justice. The UK immigration authorities have also issued a warning to all individuals applying for visas or seeking employment opportunities to exercise caution and ensure the legitimacy of the entities involved. Vigilance and thorough verification processes are essential in protecting oneself from such fraudulent activities. As the investigation unfolds, the impact of this scam on the victims and the broader healthcare industry will undoubtedly be significant. It serves as a stark reminder of the need for stringent measures to combat fraudulent practices and safeguard the integrity of the UK's immigration system.
