years ago I did WES evaluation for Canada for my highest degree and the only file I got after the evaluation is a one page PDF and had a statement of "this degree is equivalent to a Canadian masters".

Hello everyone,

I received an Interview Letter (IL) in Germany, but my family is still in Nigeria. I had earlier applied for a family reunion visa and have been waiting for an appointment for 15 months. Hoping my employer could help, I transferred my case from Lagos to Germany. Now I have IL for myself but no visa appointment for my family.

I have tried every possible option:
• Requested embassy-to-embassy transfers to visa-free countries in Africa. Some ignored my request, others declined.
• Contacted the U.S. Embassy in Germany where I got IL. They said:
• They cannot advise me.
• If I want a transfer, I must first get approval from another embassy, and only then will Germany release the case.

I do not want to return my case to Lagos due to the unpredictable backlog. At this point, I see only two options:
1. Transfer back to Lagos (which I strongly want to avoid), or
2. Reschedule — but to when? Since I have no idea when the German Embassy in Nigeria will grant my family an appointment.

Getting a Schengen visa has also failed. Right now, I am running out of options and really need advice or assistance.

If you sign up and create an account on the Higher Ed Jobs website, you will get job alerts sent to your email regularly based on your interest and the search criteria you set forth in your profile.

Also, if you are a member of a professional body that organizes annual meetings and conferences, they tend to have a job board on their website that you can review for open positions in academia. Don't forget LinkedIn and even Google. Handshake is another website that you can explore for jobs in general. I'm not sure if you will be able to access Handshake if you are not a student in the US. All of these will keep you busy.

Do not worry about transcript evaluation for a specific job just yet. If you obtained a terminal degree in the US, you may not need it. If you obtained your degree outside the US, you still may not need a transcript evaluation, unless the selection committee is having a tough time deciphering your courses and interpreting your grades. If they need it evaluated, they will let you know after your application has been reviewed and prior to or during your interview. Now, if your transcript is in a language other than English, an evaluation will be necessary. Hope this helps.

Short accommodation options

1. Search for "extended stay" hotels in the city you are moving to. You will see those "hotels" with small kitchen inside and affordable. You will see names like HomeTowne Studio, Studio6, Motel6, Extended Stay America etc. Just makes sure they have kitchens inside. You can book any of these even from Nigeria but you must deposit money on arrival.

2. Get an Airbnb. This is like renting an apartment or house for short stay. Airbnb.com

3. If you are coming to live here, you can search for apartment or house to rent from apartment.com, zillow.com

Funny, got a response last night and it's laughable.

There are very good Nigerians in the uk. See human behaviour is same everywhere even those other countries you’re talking about wait until you meet terrible ones then you’ll understand that humans are same cos that’s what makes us humans. Just be open minded and when you locate good people whether they are Nigerians or not then build good relationships cos humans are still the greatest resource you can have. Trauma is what makes people behave badly and their bitter experiences in life so just move on and be yourself to be nice to others so others don’t complain about you too.
