PoliticsOur Generation Has Failed Nigeria – Bauchi Ex-Governor, Mohammed Abubakar by JAOS(op): 6:50am On Oct 11, 2024
A former governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar, has called on Nigerian youths to rise up and take up the responsibility for salvaging the country.

Mohammed, who spoke on Tuesday at the First Bauchi SDGs Youth Summit 2024, declared that his generation and its set of leaders, including himself, have failed to provide Nigerians with the kind of leadership they deserve.

“My generation has failed. My generation appears not to have the answers anymore.

“Allah loves Nigeria. That is why every chance he gives to my generation, we take Nigeria to the precipice, and Allah will bring it back. We will take over again and bring it to the precipice, which means doing one thing the same way and expecting a different result. Which some people say is the definition of madness,” he stated.

The Bauchi ex-governor, while disclosing that his investments on the youth populace during his administration were deliberate, noted further, “I deliberately populated my executive council with the youth, and in doing that, I did not pick and choose the sons or daughters of the big shots. I picked youth for their abilities to perform and I encouraged them, knowing fully well that one day, whether I like it or not, I have to quit the stage, and the youths will take over.”

Mohammed warned that leaders should be wary of the future of the country when the youths are not trained to be ready for the leadership roles ahead of them.

Continuing, he stressed that with poor investment on youths, their readiness for the leadership role of the future of the country is already at stake.

“If we do not train them today, we can imagine what is going to happen when the time comes for us to leave the stage and allow them to take over. We will have people who are not ready for the leadership roles ahead of them,” Mohammed maintained.

He called on the youths to brace up for the challenge and change the country’s present narrative.

Also, speaking at the occasion, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Salis Gamawa, advised the youths to look for opportunities to innovate and make the difference in the socio-economic narrative of the country instead of searching for non-existent white-collar jobs.

According to Gamawa, the system has changed, and the youths also have to change their ways of thinking.

The commissioner who observed that some youths are just naysayers of the government and anyone occupying position of leadership cautioned that “life is a project and the best thing you can do to yourself is to project a better image of yourself. Where we are lacking greatly as young people, we need to identify them to know what it really means to be a leader.”

Gamawa clarified, “To mean a leader is not about the executive governor. It is not about the commissioner. It is not about anything but yourself.”

Thus, he advised that youths must first learn how to correctly and positively  lead themselves as individuals before thinking of leading others.

Arewa PUNCH further reports that the summit was attended by several youths from across the region and women, including students from secondary and tertiary institutions.

Nairaland GeneralIsraeli Airstrike Wipes Out Entire Family Of 17 In Eastern Lebanon by JAOS(op): 8:44pm On Sep 29, 2024
September 29, 2024

NEWS

Rescue teams are scrambling to search for potential survivors amidst the rubble.

Tragedy struck in eastern Lebanon's Bekaa Valley on Sunday as an Israeli airstrike devastated a family of 17 in the town of Zboud, according to Lebanese media reports.

Rescue teams are scrambling to search for potential survivors amidst the rubble.

The deadly strike, confirmed by Lebanon's state news agency NNA, has sent shockwaves through the region. Emergency responders are racing against time to locate anyone who may have survived the devastating attack.

The Israeli army has launched a series of airstrikes on Lebanon, targeting what they claim are Hezbollah strongholds, resulting in devastating consequences.

Since September 23, the attacks have claimed the lives of at least 816 people and left over 2,500 injured, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

This escalation is part of a broader conflict that began when Israel launched its war on Gaza, sparked by a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7 last year, which has tragically taken the lives of nearly 41,600 people, mostly women and children.

Hezbollah has been trading attacks with Israel across the Israeli-Lebanese border. The situation remains volatile, with neither side seeking an all-out confrontation but still engaging in intense exchanges.

The conflict has displaced tens of thousands on both sides of the border and exacted a significant toll in civilian casualties.

The international community is urging restraint, with diplomatic efforts underway to prevent further escalation. The United States has been actively engaged in shuttle diplomacy to de-escalate tensions

CrimeBobrisky Sues Verydarkman For ₦1bn Over Defamation Allegations by JAOS(op): 8:37pm On Sep 29, 2024
29th September 2024

Nigerian crossdresser and social media personality, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit against Martins Vincent Otse, commonly known as VeryDarkMan, accusing him of defamation through an audio clip.

The lawsuit, announced via Bobrisky’s Instagram account on Sunday, claims that VeryDarkMan released an AI-generated audio recording that falsely implicated Bobrisky in illicit relationships with high-profile figures, including politicians and law enforcement officials.

In the suit, Bobrisky’s lawyers alleged that VeryDarkMan used their client’s name and influence for personal gain, making unsubstantiated claims about his relationships with politicians and law enforcement officials.

The legal statement states, “Our client has informed us that in your quest for social media stardom, you have continued to exploit his name, personality, and social media influence to create media buzz for your personal gains.”

“Recently, you alleged in one of your trending videos on various social media platforms that various Deputy Inspectors General of the Nigeria Police Force, lawmakers, senators, and politicians generally were in the habit of having sexual intercourse with our client, yet you have not provided any proof of these claims to date.”

The lawsuit further accused VeryDarkMan of releasing defamatory statements without concern for Bobrisky’s mental health, privacy, or constitutional rights.

It continues, “You have persisted in making reckless and unfounded statements, including hearsay that you cannot prove against our client, disregarding his mental health, general wellbeing, right to privacy, right to freedom of thought, right to life, and other fundamental constitutional rights.”

“One would expect that after such attempts against our client, you would exercise some level of caution or restraint, considering the safety and wellbeing of our client. However, your goals are personal and self-serving, and thus you have made it a lifelong task to fulfil them by any means, regardless of the negative effects on our client and others caught in your unfounded attacks.”

“Our client has become aware that you recently published an AI-generated audio call, claiming it was between an unnamed individual and our client. For the record, our client has never had any audio conversation with this individual, and your act of defamation and blackmail should be retracted within 24 hours of the service of this letter of demand via social media platforms.”

“Your AI-generated audio conversation is the result of you and any other individuals who collaborated with you to create it. Therefore, we warn you that you must remove our client’s name from the said recording or anything that may connect our client to the alleged recording. For the record, our client had no knowledge of such a telephone conversation with you or anyone else.”

Related News Bobrisky: VDM alleges threat to life, Falz prepares for legal battle How Bobrisky spent jail term in Kirikiri special cell Bobrisky: I’m unbothered, VeryDarkMan replies Falz’s sister

“Our client has suffered immense damage since the publication of the defamatory content by you, leading to several damaging reviews of his persona, brand, and everything he holds dear. This is akin to what you threatened in a video published on Tuesday, 24th September 2024, where you stated that if our client failed to pay the demanded sum, you would publish a damaging video, which would cause him to lose friends. You have not only created a defamatory recording to put our client in a bad light for your purposes of blackmail but, astonishingly, you continued to publish false information about our client even after payment, revealing your ulterior motives against him.”

“Our client, by this letter, demands strict proof regarding the authenticity of the said audio recording, affirming that he never had a phone conversation with you or anyone you represent. It is shocking that you would publish an AI-generated audio recording to damage our client’s social standing and place his life in jeopardy solely for your selfish personal goals.”

“You and anyone collaborating with you owe the authorities, security agencies, and respected legal and human rights advocates an explanation regarding how you created the audio recording and the defamatory words used, including your confident defamatory commentary before and after the AI audio recording.”

“For the record, our client has not alleged any agency or person of bribery or wrongdoing; thus, the burden lies with you to prove your allegations to the authorities and the respected personalities you have defamed. It is laughable that anyone would believe your AI audio recording stating otherwise, given that our client served his prison time within a correctional facility in Lagos State.”

Bobrisky’s legal team demanded that VeryDarkMan deletes the audio clip immediately, issue a public apology in two national newspapers, and record a video apology to be shared across all social media platforms. The suit also demands that VeryDarkMan cease publishing defamatory content about Bobrisky and pay ₦1 billion in damages within 24 hours.

“As it relates to our client, we demand that you immediately remove the said AI-generated audio recording published as a video by you, along with your defamatory commentary voiceover, which you recklessly and dangerously attributed to our client. None of this material is a product of our client; thus, any name, description, or attribution to our client in the process of publishing the said defamatory material is false.”

“We, therefore, demand, on behalf of our client, a written apology published in two national daily newspapers, a video recording of your apology to our client shared on all your social media platforms, a commitment to refrain from reporting or publishing defamatory content against our client, and the payment of ₦1,000,000,000 in damages within 24 hours of this letter via social media or any other means.”

Bobrisky’s lawyers warned that failure to meet these demands would result in legal action being pursued in court.

“Take notice: should you fail to take advantage of the alternative dispute resolution mechanism introduced in paragraphs 10 and 11 of this demand notice, we shall seek legal redress in a court of competent jurisdiction immediately without any further notice to you. We hope this matter can be resolved within the next 24 hours.”

Recall that in a viral audio released by VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky alleged that some unnamed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission operatives collected ₦15 million from him to drop money laundering charges against him

SportsGalatasaray Coach To Unleash Osimhen, Icardi On Kasimpasa by JAOS(op): 8:36am On Sep 28, 2024
Galatasaray coach Orkan Buruk is planning to pair Victor Osimhen with Mauro Icardi for their Turkish Super Lig clash against Kasimpasa on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen has become the poster boy for Galatasaray since he joined the club from Napoli in the summer. Since he joined, he has dominated most of the news in and around the club, and has most of the fans behind him.

When Osimhen arrived, it was clear that he was going to become the first-choice striker at the club despite the presence of stars like Icardi, Dries Mertens, and Michy Batshuayi.

Nonetheless, with all these stars, it was expected that Buruk would pair Osimhen with another striker.

In the Lions’ first few games of the season, Buruk has deployed two-man striking force with either Osimhen or Batshuayi and Mertens.

However, that was due to Icardi’s injury. But on Wednesday, the Argentine hitman returned to action for Galatasaray and scored for them in their 3-1 win over PAOK.

Now that Icardi is fully back, there are reports that coach Buruk is planning to pair Osimhen with Icardi in the attack. This invariably means that Mertens would be benched.

Bobrisky scandal: We won’t spare indicted officials –Minister

Says era of passports scarcity at home, aboard gone

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo warned yesterday that officials of the  Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) found culpable in the apartment-for-prison scandal involving notorious cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye a.k.a. Bobrisky would not go unpunished.

The social and traditional media has trended lately with stories of how some NCoS officials allegedly arranged a private apartment for the cross-dresser where he spent his jail term instead of the prison cell after he was sentenced to six months imprisonment by a federal high court in Lagos for naira abuse.

Tunji-Ojo, who spoke at a media briefing in Abuja to mark his one year in office, vowed that no personnel or officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service found in the ongoing probe to be involved in the scandal would be spared.

He promised that as was indicated by the calibre of people in the panel probing the incident, the investigation would be diligent, detailed and far reaching to bring sanity and discipline to the Correctional Service environment.

The minister also said Nigerians in diaspora would henceforth enjoy seamless acquisition of passports, especially those in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

This will come into effect as the Federal Government activates Automated Passport Application system by October.

The minister said that all backlogs of passports had been cleared, noting that the Nigeria Immigration Service, (NIS) no longer owes its service providers regarding printing and supply of passports.

“We now have about 80,000 Passports in our stocks, both the 32 pages and the 70 pages,” he said.

He added that henceforth, Nigerians in the diaspora would not need to travel from one country to another to obtained Passports, noting that the era in which they wasted working hours and resources and risked their lives on long journey was gone.

He said: “We are going to do a pre-launch of this automated system very soon. And by October they will be fully operational.

“We have a situation in London where we have 16,000 Nigerians applying for Passports, and the capacity of our systems in the Embassy is about 200.

“But now that we have this system in place, Nigerians would not have to embark on different journeys across the world for Passport acquisition.”

Tunji-Ojo also justified the increase in Passports fees, saying it is a matter of cost-benefits analysis, especially “when you look at the rate of dollar compared to naira”.

BobriskyBobrisky returns to Instagram hours after deactivationPrison controllers suspended as probe of Bobrisky’s claim begins

He also said the increase didn’t affect the cost of Passports outside Nigeria, saying the increase was only about 45 per cent.

He said government is not exploiting Nigerians but to cover the cost of procurement of Passports.

“If at all government should subsidise anything, I don’t think it should be Passports. The increase is just from N35,000 to N50,000. No increase outside Nigeria”, Tunji-Ojo said.

He urged journalists to focus on magnifying the policy thrust of the present administration rather than looking at the negatives as President Bola Tinubu only inherited most of the challenges facing the country.

Tunji-Ojo was flanked at the briefing by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, the Commandant General of Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, the Controller General of Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa and the Commandant General of the Federal Fire Service, Abdulganiyu Jaji.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for the attention given to the Ministry, saying without his approvals nothing much could have been achieved.

The minister said on assuming office, 204,332 Passports backlogs were cleared within three weeks while the government had within one year built the Command and Control Centre at the headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service to provide real time tech-driven services for Nigeria.

“We are also installing a total of 41 e-gates at our airports (eight at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, 21 slated for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, and four each at the international airports in Kano, Enugu, and Port Harcourt) offering diasporan Nigerians and returning citizens an automated, hassle-free screening process,” the minister said.

Speaking on the fight against vandalism and the protection of critical infrastructure by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the achievements under the Nigeria Correctional Service, the Minister said: “Over the past year, we arrested 2,254 vandals and oil bunkerers, with 550 currently under prosecution and 122 convictions already secured. In addition, the NSCDC disrupted organised crime networks by destroying 150 illegal refineries and 64 illegal oil dumps.

“The reform of the private security sector has also yielded impressive results. 115 licensed companies are now legally operating, and we are in the process of licensing an additional 178 companies.

“Moreover, a total of 3,394 private security guards have undergone rigorous training, while the sector generated an impressive revenue of ₦861,620,500.

“Over the past year, 21,383 senior officers and 2,551 junior officers were promoted, while 818 junior officers were upgraded to senior officer cadre, ensuring a motivated and capable workforce.

“Additionally, through partnerships with the private sector, we facilitated the release of over 4,000 inmates, reducing custodial overcrowding by 5%, without incurring any cost to the government.”

TravelBorno Dam Collapse: FG Opens IDP Camps As Flood Submerges 70% Of Maiduguri by JAOS(op): 9:23am On Sep 11, 2024
Thousands of Maiduguri inhabitants have been displaced, with the Nigerian Correctional Service recapturing three inmates after a jailbreak, while 80 per cent of animals at the Sanda Kyarimi Park zoo died as Borno State suffered its most devastating flood disaster in 30 years, The PUNCH reports.

Following the disaster, President Bola Tinubu, who’s currently abroad, called for the immediate evacuation of residents in communities overtaken by floods.

Seventy per cent of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, has been submerged by the fast-moving waters, according to the National Emergency Management Agency, while the flood also ravaged other major city locations, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Umar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi, the state secretariat, post office, cemetery, Lagos Area, Bulabulin, Gwange, Monday Market, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and Kofar Shehu.

Some locations that I personally know and consider to be high ground, from the report we received, are already underwater, including Lagos Street, the market area, the palace of the Shehu of Borno, at least the front of the palace, we can see water there,” NEMA spokesman, Manzo Ezekiel, told The PUNCH.

About 70 per cent of the town is already underwater. So, many people are trapped as the flood intensified when people were sleeping; some people woke up to discover that they were inside water.”

The NEMA spokesperson said Borno’s flat ground geology made it easier for water to flow into passage areas in Maiduguri city, adding that the flood began after the Alau Dam overflowed following heavy rains.

The overflow of the main source of the dam in Borno State, called Alau Dam, has brought the city to be underwater since last weekend. So, our attention now and our energy are geared towards providing necessary support, by way of search and rescue, and supporting people that have been impacted. That is what we are doing now.”

Manzo said NEMA could not ascertain the number of displaced people as at the time of filing this report, but estimated that with about 70 per cent of the town underwater, then about 70 per cent of the over 800,000 Maiduguri residents might have been affected.

Displaced persons relocated

State government efforts to relocate displaced residents were ongoing, according to the NEMA spokesperson, who added that three Internally Displaced People Camps had been opened to accommodate those affected.

“Our search and rescue team are already working with the state officials of the state emergency management agency, providing support to people affected by the flood. By the way, what is happening in Maiduguri is something that was not envisaged, and that it will be to this extent. The flooding has exceeded the forecast made because of what is happening in Maiduguri today (Tuesday).”

Manzo said city residents moved to a higher ground when the initial flood happened in Gwangi. However, the higher ground has been overtaken by water, leading the state government to open the Bakasi Camp, a bigger area, for people to move into.

“Our team is on ground there, and we are working with the state emergency management agency to provide the necessary support, and to save lives from the flooding,” Manzo added.

Initially, about three camps were open in Gwangi, but with this situation now, people have moved to join their relations on the higher ground, and those that do not have relations in the higher part of the town, have moved to Bakasi Camp.”

The Borno State Emergency Management Agency described the flooding as terrible.

The Director-General of the agency, Barkindo Muhammad, said, “We went for a rescue and proceeded to distribute sandbags in Gozari. As I am talking to you now (on the telephone) I am trapped; we came to rescue some people and we are now trapped.”

Already, several institutions and government agencies have shut down, with the University of Maiduguri closed until further notice

“Homes are submerged, schools shut down & businesses crippled as people evacuate with their belongings,” UNCHR Nigeria stated on its X handle.

Floods have killed at least 229 people so far this year, displaced around 386,239 more and affected 94,491 houses in parts of the country but mainly in the northern region. At least 125,805 hectares of farmland have also been affected, NEMA figures showed.

Tinubu intervenes

President Tinubu expressed deep concerns over the flooding in Maiduguri and tasked relevant government agencies to expedite rescue efforts.

“While relevant authorities are still assessing the damage wrought by the flood, the President calls for the immediate evacuation of people from affected areas,” a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

“President Tinubu extends his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the State, especially to the families that have lost their means of livelihood due to the disaster triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam.

“President Tinubu assures Governor Babagana Zulum that the Federal Government is ready to collaborate to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected people.

“He orders the National Emergency Management Agency to assist the flood victims.”

Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri Tuesday to conduct an on-the-ground assessment of the devastating floods, The PUNCH learnt.

Shettima directed government agencies to provide immediate relief to the affected communities.

“During his visit, the Vice President is expected to assess the extent of the damage, interact with the displaced residents, and oversee the ongoing relief efforts. He will also hold meetings with state and local government officials to coordinate a comprehensive response plan,” the statement added.

Also, in a statement, former leader Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, also sympathised with the people of Borno, following the devastating flood.

Ndume, who represents Borno South, said, “What has happened in my dear state capital, Maiduguri, is unfortunate. The level of damage is very bad. I’ve been briefed, and what I’ve heard isn’t something we should take likely.”

“Homes, institutions, government agencies, and other businesses have been submerged in the flood. Many people are trapped and are trying to evacuate. I’m worried that the situation may get worse unless the Federal Government immediately steps in to assist the state government in salvaging the situation.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abass on Tuesday, called on the FG to urgently provide relief materials to Maiduguri residents affected by the flood.

In a statement by his Special Adviser, Media, Musa Krishi, Abbas called for collective intervention to assist victims of the natural disaster.

He said, “I am disturbed by the news of the ravaging flood in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. This is a situation that calls for concern to every well-meaning Nigerian.

“I call on all government agencies responsible for providing quick intervention in times of such emergencies to swing into action for the sake of the affected people.”

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, also conveyed the government’s sympathy to the victims of the flooding.

“The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, is acutely aware of the magnitude of the challenges posed by this disaster.

“He has since directed all the relevant ministries and agencies to collaborate with the Borno State Government in mobilising the necessary resources to provide urgent relief and assistance to those affected by the unfortunate incident,” Idris said.

The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar called on the Federal Government relief agencies to accelerate their efforts to address the impact of the Borno flooding, which he described as “catastrophic.”

“This deluge has ravaged farms and plunged a significant portion of Maiduguri into an urgent humanitarian crisis. I am also informed by available statistics from NEMA that recent floods have damaged approximately 16,488 hectares of farmland across 27 states; destroyed 32,000 houses, and impacted no less than 227,000 people.

“I earnestly implore the pertinent federal relief agencies to expedite their efforts in mitigating the effects of this calamity. My heart goes out to the people and government of Borno State government as they grapple with the profound economic repercussions of this disaster,” the former Vice President said.

Jailbreak

Reports say over 200 inmates escaped from the Maiduguri correctional facility after a portion of the facility’s parameter fence was pulled down in the aftermath of the flood.

The floodwaters ravaged the facility’s security, damaged barriers and weakened its structure, leading to the escape of the inmates, The PUNCH learnt.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Correctional Service Borno Command, Bala Adamu, confirmed the jailbreak to The PUNCH. He stated that following a manhunt for the escapees, three were recaptured on Tuesday.

“We are still assessing the number of inmates who escaped from the prison. As of now, we have recaptured three of the escapees,” Adamu told The PUNCH.

Meanwhile, the NCoS said it was taking decisive measures to manage the fallout from its Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri.

The NCoS spokesperson, Umar Abubukar, said the service had launched an emergency plan that included evacuating inmates to safer facilities, coordinating with security and emergency agencies for support, and ensuring continuous operation of its services.

Abubukar noted that the NCoS officials were working diligently to manage the situation and secure the safe transfer of inmates.

He stated, “As the agency responsible for the safekeeping of inmates, we want to assure the public that we are taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety; evacuate inmates to a safer facility; ensure smooth operations; and collaborate with sister security and relevant agencies in providing support and assistance to those affected

“Contrary to initial reports, the officers and men of the command are working to ensure a smooth and secure transfer process

“We appreciate the support and guidance from the Presidency and the Vice President’s visit to Maiduguri to assess the situation.

“We will continue to provide updates, and will like to assure the public that the NCoS is committed to maintaining order and ensuring public safety during this challenging time.”

The flooding has forced a shutdown of businesses in Maiduguri as residents battle to relocate to safe locations.

In the Kofar Shehu Area, where the Shehu of Borno resides, The PUNCH learnt that the flood was intense, as residents, including the Shehu, scampered for safety, leaving behind valuables.

“The Shehu was taken out this morning after the water became uncontrollable. I heard they took him to Government house,” a resident, Kuda Alhassan, said. “The water came unexpectedly, there was no information, until we heard later that the water was released (from the dam) in the middle of the night.”

A pregnant woman, Nafisat Mujahid, expressed safety concerns due to her delivery date.

“I have antenatal this week, and my delivery date is scheduled for this month. Now, I heard that the flood has ravaged the hospital I use and others. I am in fear,” she said.

Also, a businessman in Monday Market, Illiyasu Muhammad, said he lost everything, blaming the government for not informing residents of the decision to release water from the dam.

My goods are all gone. I sell biscuits in cartons, sweets and body soaps. The shop is locked but the goods  are damaged.

We were not informed that there will be a release of the water over the night. I would have at least packed out my goods, now I’m left stranded. I just hope government will come to our aid,” he said.

While NEMA hasn’t been able to ascertain the number of lives lost, the management of the biggest zoo in the city said 80 per cent of their animals died from the catastrophe.

Some deadly animals have been washed away into our communities, like crocodiles and snakes,” the Sanda Kyarimi Park zoo said in a statement.

“The General Manager, Borno State Museum Park, wish to announce that the recent flood disaster has disrupted and caused damage to properties and loss of lives of more than 80 per cent of the animals.”

The Arewa Consultative Forum expressed deep condolences to Nigerians, especially, northerners, over the devastating floods that have ravaged the region.

“The floods have brought unprecedented challenges to our people, who are already grappling with economic and security issues,” Prof. Tukur  Muhammad-Baba, National Publicity Secretary of ACF, said in a statement issued in Kaduna on Tuesday.

“We mourn the lives lost and pray for the quick recovery of those injured,” he added.

The forum urged public emergency response agencies, humanitarian bodies and first responders to provide immediate assistance to affected communities.

“We urge them to act swiftly and provide aid, including food, shelter, healthcare, and safe drinking water.”
