A major crisis has hit the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State, The APC National Vice-Chairman, South-East, Mr. Emma Eneukwu, slapped the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Okey Ezea, following an argument over ministerial slot in the forthcoming Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. The incident happened on Thursday during a meeting of South- East APC leaders at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. The meeting discussed the sharing of key appointments as Ezea, in the SMS, said Eneukwu slapped him because he (Ezea) told the South-East leaders that Nsukka zone, where he hailed from, should produce the minister. The text message read, “Emma Eneukwu slapped me today because I told South- East leaders that Nsukka has not been minister since 1999. He did this before Rochas, Ngige, Izunaso, J. O. J, Gen. Eze, Ucha etc. I just said the truth and requested justice and equity in the affairs of our party and Enugu State. Emma (Eneukwu) wants to be minister by violence. Emma is from Udi Local Government Area which has been producing minister since 2007, including the incumbent, Chinedu Nebo.” When our correspondent contacted him on the telephone afterwards, Eneukwu denied slapping Ezea, adding that such incident never happened. He said, “I am surprised about that, nothing like that happened, I am very surprised. That story is alien to me; I don’t know anything about it. Maybe it is a calculated attempt to mar my image. I didn’t attack anybody, I am not a thug. I don’t fight.” Asked what transpired at the said meeting, he said, “We went to see Buhari, that was all I knew. Nobody was talking about appointment. We will not be talking about appointment when the party has not decided on the positions that should come to the zone. We have not known the positions allocated to the zone.” Our correspondent gathered that the alleged incident has thrown the Enugu State chapter of the party into confusion. www.thewizjapsy..com

One of the top contenders for the Senate presidency, Senator George Akume, and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday met at the Lagos home of Tinubu. Tinubu told Akume to shelve his ambition and support Senator Ahmed Lawan, who represents Yobe-North senatorial district in the 8th Senate as the battle for the Senate presidency was between the North-East and the North- Central. Akume, who is currently the Senate Minority Leader, represents Benue-North senatorial district in the Senate. Senator Bukola Saraki, who represents Kwara-Central senatorial district in the North-Central geopolitical zone, also openly expressed his intention to contest for the seat However, it was learnt that the leadership of the APC finally decided to zone the Senate presidency to the North-East following ‘fresh developments’. He said, “Tinubu explained to Akume that Lawan and Senator Mark are very close and already, some members of the PDP support him. Lawan has a good track record in the Senate and has been backed by almost all the senators in the North- East who feel the zone has been seriously marginalised. The catch there is that if the APC members in the Senate do not support Lawan and he wins the Senate presidency with bloc votes from the PDP and his friends in the North-East, he will be loyal to the PDP and may sideline us just as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, attributed his victory to the APC back in 2011 even though he was a member of the PDP. “Mark will definitely do everything possible to ensure that Akume does not emerge Senate President if we pick Akume because they are not on good terms. Tinubu told Akume that he sacrificed his presidential ambition for the sake of the party. Tinubu, therefore, urged Akume to settle for the Deputy Senate presidency or Senate Majority Leader.” He said, “The current Senate president is from Benue State and has been in charge for eight years. Would it be fair to also handover the Senate presidency to another person from Benue? The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, got more than 2.5 million votes from the North-East and this should be rewarded.” It was gathered that a committee has been set up to look into the two parties www.thewizjapsy..com

The former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has said General Muhammadu Buhari, may consider granting amnesty to corrupt politicians who are ready to return looted Nigeria's money Fayemi said this during a programme on BBC titled, HardTalk, He said Amnesty may be considered as “a form of incentive” for corrupt persons who voluntarily come out to return stolen funds. He said, “Corruption is not going to be dealt with by punishment alone. It is also going to be dealt with by incentives to those who are prepared to have a conversion. If you come voluntarily and say, look, I have stolen some money and I am prepared to return the money, Gen. Buhari would not say no to that.” When asked if granting amnesty to those who are willing to return stolen funds was not a breach of criminal laws and justice, Fayemi added another condition, “if our processes and procedure are dealt with, we will definitely look at that.” “ Returning the funds is a form of justice to Nigeria because those funds will now be available for the teeming population. There would be a range of options for dealing with corruption but that does not mean that justice will not take its full course. “Buhari said he would not interfere with the judicial process and that if anyone is found guilty of malfeasance or corruption then that the law would take its course. Buhari didn’t mention any individual but anyone who is found guilty or who behaved badly in terms of corruption would be brought to face the law.” He added

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has been named the PFA Player of the Year, beating stiff competition from Manchester United's David De Gea and Tottenham's Harry Kane. Hazard has played a pivotal role in Chelsea's march to the Premier League title this season, scoring 13 goals and laying on eight assists. In his reaction, he said “I’m very happy. One day I want to be the best and what I did this season is play very well, Chelsea played very well. I don’t know if I deserve to win but it is good for me. It is good, it is better to be voted by the players - they know everything about football. This is good. I’m very happy. We are almost champions, maybe this is the key. Last season we finished third and this season we have an opportunity to win the league. This has changed from last season. I continue like I did last season - I try to be the same. I try to score more goals than last season. Personally I have played a good season, I have been there in the big games and I scored a lot of important goals, this is why I’m better this season.” Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been named the PFA Young Player of the Year, seeing off the challenge of Chelsea's Eden Hazard, who has won the main award. Kane has scored 20 Premier League goals in a stunning breakthrough season at White Hart Lane and beating Chelsea's Eden Hazard and Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho, who came second and third respectively..He said “It is amazing. It is a very proud moment for myself and my family - hopefully the first of many to come, I have got to keep working hard, but to be recognised by your fellow players is something special and it is a night I wont forget. It is incredible, an incredible feeling.” In other Awards Steven Gerrard and Lampard shared the Premiership Merit Award " I'm pleased - it is a great honour," Lampard said. "I have been fortunate enough to have a long time playing in the Premier League - along with Steven it is a great honour to be alongside a player who himself has done so much for the game. For the two of us to get it, it is a nice send-off and a nice ending for me. I have got a huge amount of respect for Steven - we had a few ding-dongs up and down the years, we seemed to play each other five or six times a season when the Champions League was involved" Lampard said. Gerrard speaking on the joint award he said, "I'm really pleased. Every time you get an individual award and an award for the job you do, you're really happy. I'm a young boy from a council estate who has worked so hard to get to where I am today. It has been a privilege to represent Liverpool for so long and to share some of the highlights of my career. I'm going to miss Liverpool, the league and the country - it is going to be an emotional few weeks, but I go with my head held high and I'm not going to hang my boots up yet - I've got a couple of years left in me." Other Award Winners include Women’s Player of the Year: Ji So-yun Women’s Young Player of the Year: Leah Williamson For more photos. www.thewizjapsy..com

Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade says Kelechi Iheanacho has been asked to join the Under-20 national team in Germany, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. The Flying Eagles are expected to leave for Germany in a fortnight to prepare for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand. The African champions are scheduled to leave the European country for New Zealand on May 30, and Ugbade said on Friday that Manchester City’s Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi (KRC Genk, Belgium) Isaac Success (Granada) and Moses Simon (KAA Gent, Belgium) would join up with their colleagues in their camp in Germany. Former Super Eagles defender Ugbade dispelled fears that UAE 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner Iheanacho will not represent Nigeria in New Zealand due to injury. The Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations winner said Iheanacho, who won the UAE 2013 Golden Ball had resumed full training with Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad. Ugbade added, “Iheanacho was supposed to play Monday’s game against Chelsea U-18s, but was dropped at the last minute because the medical expert wanted to prevent him from suffering a relapse. “Other things being equal, he’ll be in action when the second leg of the FA Youth Cup final on April 27. “The word from Manchester City is that if Iheanacho comes through the Chelsea game unscathed, he would be allowed to attend the Flying Eagles’ training camp in Germany.” www.thewizjapsy..com

Seyi Shay is blessed with a voice that can melt a stone, no wonder she has been rising and rising since she came into the industry few years ago. Perhaps, it was because of her great vocal chords that the organisers of a recent event in Lagos invited her to perform at the event. And when the event kicked off, they thought that the best person to sing the national anthem was Seyi Shay, the singer in the house. Oh yes, she started very well, the first stanza of the national anthem was so smooth and silky in her mouth as she rendered the anthem effortlessly. She would have earned a high score for her efforts, but dear Seyi lost it at the second stanza of the anthem. She fumbled and jumbled the lines, repeating the lines of the first stanza for the second. But she was able to catch up almost immediately and she continued as if no harm was done. The MC at the event, thereafter, tried to water down the goof by joking that only a few would be able to recite the second stanza of the anthem. Crest fallen Seyi wasn’t happy as Saturday Beats saw her being escorted by another female outside the event venue. It was written all over her face that she was totally embarrassed and may have wished she practised more before climbing the stage.

Not many would really remember that Alibaba, the comedian, was formerly married before he met his current wife. Reason: His relationship with his wife, Mary has lasted for years now and the duo never fail to showcase their love at every given opportunity. Last week, the ace comedian and his wife, Mary, celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary. He posted a picture on his instagram page with an emotive message saying, “Happy Wedding Anniversary to us. It’s been a story of both ends. Sadness and joy, rich and poor, yes and no, here and there, fight and play, this and that, laugh and cry, hope and despair, high and low, yours and mine, plenty and scarce, friends and foes, we and them, good and bad. But here and now, we are still here forever and ever.” In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the veteran comedian explained that marriage was not a bed of roses as he added that celebs’ marriages could break up just as it happens in other sectors. “Marriage has not been a walk in the park for me. It has been tough and also lovely. If anyone tells you that being married is a bed of roses, then the person has not been married. The thing is that people should learn to pile up the good times so that when the bad times come, the good times override them. What happens most times is that the bad moments are so many people can count the good times and that is when they say they have irreconcilable differences. I think we are doing well. I can’t put a hand on what has kept us going and what makes our union great but I am grateful to God for everything. “There are break-ups everywhere and the only reason it is more pronounced in the entertainment industry is because we are in the public eye. It is a common phenomenon that happens to pastors, ministers; even the president of France, his wife left him. It is just because we are celebrities people talk about it,” Alibaba said. www.thewizjapsy..com

Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko says he enjoys beating up people for a living and has no plans to retire from boxing soon. According to Reuters, the 39-year-old Ukrainian, who will defend his collection of titles against Bryant Jennings in New York on Saturday night, said during the week, “What could be cooler, or better, than to be the best man on the planet and beating up people for a living? “As long as I have motivation and health, I’ll do it. I don’t feel old, or bad, or slow.” Klitschko, who holds the WBA “super” title as well as the WBO, IBF and IBO titles, has lost only three of his 66 professional fights. He will equal Joe Louis’ record when he appears in his 27th heavyweight title fight on Saturday. The champion will make his 18th title defence when he takes on Jennings, an American, at Madison Square Garden. He has dominated the heavyweight division for nearly a decade and has shown no signs of slowing down. The two-metre tall Klitschko, who has won 53 of his fights inside the distance, faces an opponent whose record stands at 19-0 and who has stopped ten of his opponents. Jennings has been boxing for only six years but the 30-year-old challenger from Philadelphia is not impressed by Klitschko’s accomplishments. “My first edge is youth. Youth is always an edge that you can’t deny. Speed. Speed is an edge. These are things that are obvious,” he said during the week. Despite Klitschko’s 7.6cm height advantage, Jennings has the same reach as the champion. Klitschko, who will be within one of Larry Holmes’s 19 consecutive title defences if he wins this weekend – second to the mark of 25 held by Louis – said he was “allergic” to comparisons with other greats. “How long I’ve been champion, how many title defences I’ve made … I don’t want to compare myself with any of the great heavyweights,” the 1996 Olympic champion, said. “I’m still looking up to those guys. They are still icons to me.” If he beats Jennings, he could be matches with Britain’s Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, who holds the WBC belt. “I see the change of the generations is slowly coming, because I had all of those guys in my training camp coming up,” Klitschko said. “They are very competitive, very young, very ambitious, very strong fighters that definitely are going to bring a lot of excitement in the ring.” www.thewizjapsy..com

A suspected thief arrested by the police in Lagos, Tokunbo Ojo, says a master key he owned made it easy for him to steal from vehicles during public functions such as weddings and burials. It was learnt that Ojo recently got lucky as he stole N3.2m from a car parked at the campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abeokuta, Ogun State. According to the police, the suspect consulted a welder in 2013 to make the master key for him, which he used to open parked vehicles, carting away money and other valuables in the vehicles. Our correspondent gathered that Ojo had allegedly attended weddings, burial ceremonies, political campaigns and other functions where he used the key to perform his operation While speaking with PUNCH Metro, Ojo, a father of two, who lived on Agbotikuyo Street, Agege, explained that he dresses well and pretends to be one of the invited guests at functions before carrying out his operation He said, “I used to work as a house painter. But in 2013, my work was no longer flourishing. So I developed the idea of using a master key to steal. I consulted a welder friend to make the key for me. I got it from him for N500. Since 2013, I had gone to high-class events for operations. I usually dressed like one of the guests and would mingle with other guests as if I was invited. Later, I would go out as if I forgot something in my vehicle. And I would proceed to one of the expensive vehicles where I suspected there would be valuables. The master key could open any vehicle.” Ojo also said that during the just concluded PDP Rally, he stole N3.2m from a car parked at the venue in Abeokuta, Ogun State. “The campaign rally was in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and it was the PDP campaign rally. I saw N3.2m inside one of the vehicles I opened. Nobody suspected anything. I used the money to get a Toyota Highlander. The police have taken the vehicle from me. “My wife and two children did not know this was the work I did. I stole in order to survive. I regret my actions now. I wish I could be forgiven.” It was learnt that the police caught Ojo red-handed and arrested him at a function in Lagos after they got a tip-off about his The police said investigations revealed that Ojo did not work alone, adding that they were still on the lookout for his fleeing accomplices.

The winger, who is on loan at Stoke City from Chelsea, scored a sublime header against Everton as he backpedaled but managed to still generate enough power to beat Tim Howard in the Toffees goal to give The Potters the lead from 15 yards out. The former Wigan star received 72 per cent of the votes, beating both Mame Diouf efforts against Crystal Palace (28 per cent) and Everton (0 per cent). He scored three goals in the league for The Potters before his most recent injury setback. Suleiman Hashimu, will no doubt enter the Guiness Book of Record as the first man to trek from Lagos to Abuja. ‘The Traveller,’ as he is now been called, had vowed to walk from Lagos to Abuja if Muhammadu Buhari won the 2015 presidential election. Hashimu arrived Abuja yesterday evening after trekking for over three weeks. Hashimu, a native of Katsina State, said he was in Lagos when Buhari was announced the president-elect of Nigeria, so he left Lagos at about 5am the next day and arrived in Ibadan around 6pm. Narrating his ordeal to newsmen upon his arrival in Abuja, Hashimu said he had gone to get a police report at Ibadan to allow for an unimpeded journey, but that as he could not wait for the processes to be completed, the divisional police officer (DPO) gave him his phone number. The journey man said when he first embarked on the journey, many persons discouraged him, especially family members but he never gave up. He told journalists that in Ilorin, people accompanied him for several miles until he stopped at Oloru, where he received much hospitality in Jebba. He said unlike other villages, he met people who had heard of him. He further explained that about 20 people set off with him from Jebba and after some miles, 18 turned back, but the other two were more strong-minded and followed him. The Traveller narrated how they encountered armed robbers close to Mokwa, but that, fortunately, he had already met one of them in Jebba and the would-be robber ended up giving him N200 for ‘pure’ (sachet) water. Hashimu said he continued his trip from Mokwa to Kudu, then from Kutigi to Bida, and then to Suleja, after which arrived in Abuja yesterday. Upon his arrival in Abuja on Monday, many residents were already waiting to receive him. When residents of FCT saw him, the chorus of Sai Buhari rented the air Unconfirmed report said a top politician had already paid for a room in Transcorp Hilton where he would lodge. www.thewizjapsy..com

At the day clinic less than 100m away they could not help him. The doctor scheduled to be on duty did not show up because he was a foreigner and feared being a victim of xenophobia. It began on Friday night when mobs blockaded Arkwright Avenue, one of the main thoroughfares in Alexandra, with rubble and burning tyres. Foreign-owned shops' roofs were ripped open and metal gates torn away as looters went on the rampage. Outside one spaza shop, a man in a black corduroy jacket and red shirt was walking along the road. Suddenly a young man dressed in a grey tracksuit jacket beat him over the head with a wrench. The red-shirt man tried to fend off the blows, his arms raised. He stumbled back, falling into rubbish strewn by the roadside. The blows with the wrench rained down. Then the bludgeoning stopped and the man with the wrench moved away. "Are we safe here?" asked a South African woman watching the attack. The man in the red shirt got up. Now another man with a beige spottie approached, holding an okapi knife high above his head. Again, the man in the red shirt raised his hands, pleading for mercy. But his pleas were in vain. He was stabbed ... again and again. The two grappled and fell to the floor. The man with the wrench returned. Finally, a lanky young man sprinted towards the man among the rubbish, kicking him in the head. The young man pulled a butcher's knife. A man in a black leather jacket who had discouraged the attack grabbed the wrist with the butcher's knife. The attackers fled. The red-shirt man tried to get up but fell. Finally he made it to his feet. Feebly, he walked up the road. Do you know why they attacked you? Who are you? Where are you from, we asked him. He turned his head towards the questions fired at him, his face pleading. He said nothing. His shirt was drenched, a 2cm gash in his chest. Metres further he stumbled and lay down in the gutter. He struggled to sit up and fell down. Help me get him into the car. Help me, please," said photographer James Oatway, looking around at the men gathered around him. One stepped forward, reluctantly. Up the road, at Alexandra Day Clinic, nurses did what they could. There was no doctor; he would have to be taken to Edenvale Hospital. Along the way the man was flailing wildly, sitting up, lying down, wincing with pain. The wound to his chest was gushing now. At Edenvale Hospital a lone gurney stood at the entrance. The porters sat in a room with tinted windows. Oatway pleaded for help. The man in the car was critical, he said. Slowly one porter rose and scribbled in a book. Then the other, both now ambling towards the hospital entrance. Inside the car the red-shirt man looked lifeless. "He's dead. We can't take him," one porter pronounced. There was no pulse. Then a gag reflex. He's alive. Inside the ICU, doctors compressed his chest, massaging his heart. After nearly seven minutes a ventilator was used. Shortly after 9am Emmanuel Sithole was pronounced dead. He was Mozambican. The stab wound to his chest had penetrated his heart. In his pockets, R285 and 10c in change and a cellphone. His phone would ensure he did not die nameless. On his wrist, three armbands read: "United for Bafana." For more pix visit www.thewizjapsy..com

Some Nigerians in South Africa have cried out against the xenophobic attacks on Africans in parts of the country, the Nigerian migrants expressed their fear of attacks as death threats were being circulated on social media. Itunu Bodunrin, who on Monday had attended his master’s degree graduation ceremony at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, told our correspondent that he was unable to leave the school campus afterwards due to the violence in the town. Bodunrin forwarded a text message to our correspondent which, according to him, had been circulated among South African residents via an instant messaging mobile application, WhatsApp. It read in part, “Dear neighbour from Africa and other parts of the world, we have travelled the world and have not found one country that allows the floods of humans across its borders as South Africa is experiencing. Even in war-torn parts like Syria, Ukraine, Yemen and Somali, We were seven million people in Johannesburg city in 2011. Today, we have an estimated 13 million. In Johannesburg alone, you have taken over entire suburbs: Yeoville, Berea, Bez Valley, Turfontein, among many. You have even moved into rural parts of our country that have 80-per-cent unemployment, and there are no visible signs that you have jobs either,We want to be proudly part of the geographic construct called Africa, but we are as different from one another as Kenyans are from Nigerians; Ivorians from Chadians, etc. “We are pleading with you to return to your home countries. Go and build up those countries so that we can all live in economic, social and political prosperity and peace as neighbours. The genocide in this corner of Africa will be far worse than what happened in Rwanda in 1994. Then the entire continent will be condemned to ashes. Is that what you want?, South Africans not fully employed or who were found guilty of crimes, were recently repatriated from Nigeria and rightly so, Our people are preparing for war against all foreigners (from Bulgaria, Pakistan and Bangladesh to Africa, north of the Limpopo) and we are all very scared. Please go home and build Africa. Millions will die if you don’t. This we can guarantee.” Similarly, Samson Ojako, a master’s degree student studying Mathematics also at the University of KwaZulu-Natal noted that looting had been rampant for over a week. “Those that opened their shops were attacked by the Zulu. During all of this, those of us on campus were warned by the school management to stay indoors. They said no one should leave the school premises, especially during the weekend.” Ojako noted that a large number of Zulus often migrated from their villages into town on weekends in order to launch attacks on non-nationals. www.thewizjapsy..com

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday appealed to world leaders, international organisations and Nigerians to give maximum support to the administration of the President- elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), so that he could achieve his aim of moving the country forward. Jonathan also explained that he decided to concede defeat in the March 28 presidential election because of his conviction that one does not have to scuttle national progress for personal ambition. The President called on all Nigerians to do their utmost best to help the incoming President to succeed in leading the country to a greater height. He also appealed for patience, understanding and cooperation from all stakeholders in Nigeria, saying Buhari would need those gestures to move the country to greater peace, security and Progress. He said, “Democracy has to be nurtured to grow. Strong democratic institutions are the backbone and future of our democracy. They must be protected and nurtured. As for me, as a matter of principle, it is always the nation first, You need to have a nation before you can have an ambition. It should always be the nation first. You don’t have to scuttle national progress for personal ambition. Since I assumed duty, I have been involved in quelling political crisis in some African countries and I know what they passed through and what some are still going through. If you scuttle a system for personal ambition, it becomes a collective tragedy.” Speaking with the new French ambassador, Mr. Denis Guaer, the President urged France to extend the support and assistance it gave to his administration to Buhari’s government. “President Francois Hollande was our guest in Nigeria during the celebration of Nigeria’s centenary. He has been very supportive of the country in the fight against terrorism. I expect that the same warmth and goodwill will be extended to the incoming government. I expect that France will continue to work with the new administration, especially on issue of terrorism. The United Nations has been supportive as well. Our troops, supported by regional forces, have done very well in fighting the terrorists in recent times. What we need now is support to help our people get back on their lives,’’ he added. The ambassadors were reported to have commended Jonathan for setting a record of humility, patriotism and courage in safeguarding the democratic process in Nigeria and Africa. www.thewizjapsy..com

Facts have emerged on the March 31 attempt by a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, to scuttle the announcement of the March 28 presidential election results. The news agency quoted unnamed pro-democracy advocates and a Nigeria-based diplomat as saying that one of Jega’s aides unearthed the plot. It said that the aide had sent a text message to an independent voting monitor, “warning of an imminent threat to the electoral process.” It added that when the independent voting monitor sent the SMS, he hoped the outside world would hear of the plot and the text of the message . “Fellow countrymen, Nigeria on Trial,” read the SMS sent on the morning of March 31 to the head of the Situation Room, “Plans are on storm [sic] the podium at the ICC Collation Centre and disrupt the process. Nobody is sue [sic] what will happen. Please share this as widely as possible,” Jega was about to preside over the announcement of the results, As tallies from around the country showed that the All Progressives Congress candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, was leading, “unidentified PDP(Peoples Democratic Party) hard- liners started to panic, seeking ways of manipulating the count,” the boss of the Situation Room and the diplomat said, citing political contacts in the Niger Delta and Abuja. Realising they could not engineer an outright win, the PDP agents set about doctoring the tally at collation centres in pro- (Goodluck) Jonathan areas to ensure Buhari failed to meet a requirement for 25 per cent support in two-thirds of the states. But as Buhari’s lead grew, some PDP supporters from the Niger Delta, including Orubebe, decided on a final gamble: to create a disturbance in the main INEC hall and have “thugs snatch Jega from the stage, Reuters quoted the Head of the Situation Room and the Abuja-based diplomat. What the group planned to do after the abduction was unclear, they said. “It was a desperate thing, mostly by a group of people from the Niger Delta who were in the room,” the Situation Room head said, describing events that unfolded publicly in the minutes after he received the SMS. Orubebe had grabbed a microphone and launched into an 11-minute tirade accusing Jega of bias. “Mr. chairman, we have lost confidence in you,” he shouted, pushing away officials trying to make him surrender the microphone. “You are being very, very selective. You are partial,” he continued, surrounded by three or four supporters. “You are tribalistic. We cannot take it.” “Some of the guards who had been guarding Jega for years demanded a written order,” the Head of the Situation Room said. Jega later rebuked Orubebe, saying, “Let us not disrupt a process that has ended peacefully, Mr. Orubebe, you are a former minister of the Federal Republic. You are a statesman in your own right. You should be careful about what you say or about what allegations you make, ” he said. Orubebe later congratulated Buhari on Twitter, expressing his “apologies to fellow Nigerians.” Orubebe did not respond to requests by the news agency for comment on the details of the plot. INEC, said the news agency, also declined to comment and turned down requests for an interview with Jega, Reuters however said it found no evidence to suggest that Jonathan, who accepted defeat in the election, was involved in the plot. The Chief Press Secretary to the chairman of the commission, Idowu said, “I think somebody is imagining here. The chairman was not aware of any such plan, he didn’t conduct any investigation to know that. He was not under such threat during or after the announcement.’’ www.thewizjapsy..com

Napoli president, Aurelio Di Laurentiis has threatened to send his players to a training camp “for an unlimited period of time” if they do not improve between now and the end of the season. "I have decided that if there is no change in course between now and the end of the season, the players will go to a training camp… for an unlimited period of time, It’s my decision. "I want discipline. I have never failed to pay salaries or even delayed them. I have spent €386m on the purchase of players in 10 years and I demand commitment" “I dislike the idea of a training camp as part of the club’s philosophy, but Naples is a city which is full of distractions,” he added. “I demand that they work with me and for a common purpose, with full commitment to the fans and the city.” www.thewizjapsy..com |
Founder of Ibis Hotel, Ikeja, Otunba Olufemi Okenla, unveils his autobiography, ‘Power of Thought’, to mark his 50th birthday, The life of the founder and Managing Director of Hotel Ibis, Ikeja, Lagos, Chief Olufemi Okenla, who relocated to Nigeria after spending 25 years in the UK, has a lot of tales to tell. When he was studying abroad, for instance, he was once a sawmill attendant, then he later worked in an hotel, scrubbing floor and doing other menial jobs, the experience was so cumbersome that he was prone to a deadly fever Okenla was thus compelled to change the job. So ‘lucky’ was he that he was employed as a kitchen ‘manager’ when he had to work with an automatic dish machine, filling dishes into the system. He was of the opinion that the job was more elevating than scrubbing the floor. But that was until the new job also brought a dramatic hazard in the form of a nightmare. In his sleep, he began to see nothing but dishes rolling on the washing machine. These are some of the stories Okenla narrates in The Power of Thought: A Compendium of my Life in Half a Century, his autobiography presented in Lagos on Monday. The book marks his 50th birthday, which was celebrated on Tuesday. It encompasses the writer’s journey from a struggling guy to a successful entrepreneur. For Okenla, being 50 presents an auspicious time to open the pages of his life for people – especially youths – to read. According to him, his life is a shining evidence that whoever believes in the power of his or her dream and thought is destined for success. The public presentation, which featured readings from the book, music and comedy by Lagos-based comedian, Kofi, and other dignitaries which included the Group Managing Director of Skye Bank, Mr. Timothy Oguntayo, the chairman, Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Sadiat Oladunjoye; lawyer and politician, Dr. Muiz Banire, and the Managing Director of Opas Ltd., Mr. Muyiwa Green. The host’s wife, Modupe was also present. In his review of the book, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Dr. Dayo Amokaye, commended Okenla for publishing the work which, he believes, will positively affect posterity and encourage the youth Amokaye said, “The book is motivational and inspiring. It is an invaluable asset to the younger generation and adults that want to be motivated.” Okenla said he was very happy to see it out as he believes every reader has a lot to learn from it. He intends to give proceeds to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos and the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria. The reason for this is that it was the hospital that healed him when he had an accident that affected his spine. He said, “When some people read this book, they will think it is a fiction. But it is not. It is the truth of what has happened to me. I am a living example. If you can think it and dream it, you can get it. What we believe in is what we are. It is what we become. My philosophy is, ‘Nothing is impossible’. Everything in life is affordable and achievable once we get our priorities right. But many people spend time on what is urgent, not what is important or vital. “Never give up. Hold on to your dreams. Be patient. Be calm and don’t be afraid of tall dreams.” The commissioner, who unveiled the book, described the author as a successful entrepreneur and pathfinder per excellence. She added, “He is a motivator and someone who believes in dignity of labour.” www.thewizjapsy..com |
