PoliticsUS President Biden Celebrates As Unemployment Rate Drops To 3.5% by JasonEkanem(op): 8:41am On Aug 06, 2022
According to federal data released Friday, the federal unemployment rate dropped to 3.5% in July, tying January and February 2020 for the lowest mark in recent decades.

Overall, the US job market remained strong despite inflation and recession concerns. The economy added 528,000 new jobs during the month as the Bureau of Labor Statistics called the national job growth “robust.”

The US unemployment rate has not dropped below 3.5% since 1969.

Job growth was led by gains in the leisure and hospitality, professional and business services, and health care industries. The leisure and hospitality industry added 96,000 jobs in July, but has 1.2 million fewer employees than before the pandemic.

Federal figures indicate that the unemployment rate has returned to pre-pandemic levels. However, workforce participation continues to be a factor as for the second time in history, there are 100 million Americans not in the labor force. The only other time so many Americans were not in the labor force was April 2020 during the onset of the pandemic.

Average hourly wages increased by 15 cents in July to $32.27. In the last year, average hourly wages have increased by $1.60, or 5.2%. However, inflation was up 9.1 for the 12 months ending in June, indicating wages have failed to keep up with higher prices.

President Joe Biden celebrated the release of Friday's report.

"Today, the unemployment rate matches the lowest it’s been in more than 50 years: 3.5%. More people are working than at any point in American history." Biden said. "That’s millions of families with the dignity and peace of mind that a paycheck provides. And, it’s the result of my economic plan to build the economy from the bottom up and middle out."

PoliticsApapa Port Rail Track For Completion In Two Weeks, Says Saraki by JasonEkanem(op): 11:47am On Jun 22, 2022
The Minister of State for Transportation, Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, on Monday assured Nigerians that the rail track that led to the Apapa Port terminals would be completed in two weeks.

Saraki made the assurance when she led some officials of the Federal Ministry of Transportation to Apapa Port Terminals through the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Rail Station in Lagos.

She said the Project Manager, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), Mr Xia Lijun, had given her the assurance that the laid track would be completed in the next two weeks.

“As you can see, the building belonging to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Scanner Centre needs to be pulled down but there has been issues surrounding it.

“I have been able to see the situation and upon my return to Abuja, the ministry will meet with Management of NCS and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

“Before the end of next week, solution to improve the construction at the Apapa rail track will be provided and the rail will be operational in two weeks,” Saraki said.

Saraki, noting the need for the demolition of the Customs scanner centre, stressed the importance of ensuring that the demolition was done safely without destroying the customs equipment.

She added that after the demolition of the centre, the ministry would come back for inspection, to ensure that the scanners were relocated to a safer place.

SmartPolician:
Atiku cannot be broke. You can only say he's broke if you don't know how much he stole from Nigeria
You'll weep if you go to Delta State and the see the level of failed governance amidst huge allocation, IGR and loans obtained by Government. Financing Atiku's election is clearly the most satisfying explanation.
PoliticsAtiku Is Broke, Elections Funded By Okowa- Fejiro by JasonEkanem(op): 10:12am On Jun 20, 2022
Anti-graft activist, Fejiro Oliver has alledged that the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar might not have had enough money to fund his outing in the recently concluded Presidential primaries, thereby raising speculations that most of the funds came from the coffers of the Delta State Government headed by his running mate, Patrick Okowa. Following Atiku’s Integrated Logistics Services (INTELS) contract dead-ends with the Federal Government and massive funds invested in past failed aspiration, Fejiro believes Okowa must have invested heavily in Atiku’s aspiration in exchange for the VP slot. In series of posts made on his verified Facebook page, Fejiro noted that the 150 Billion naira and 25 Billion naira loans recently obtained by the Delta State Government through suspicious means must have given Atiku the edge over Rivers Governor who has Rivers State Treasury in his palms, in an election that has been adjudged a tug of war between moneybags

To many the nomination of Governor Okowa as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar might have come as a surprise, while to the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF), it was a damning act of betrayal. In a statement signed by Chief Edwin Clark, for the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF) and the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF); Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere, Dr. Dru Bitrus, the President-General, Middle Belt Forum and Prof. George Obiozor, the President-General, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, the groups rejected the governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for accepting his nomination. The statement read in part, “It bears recalling that the 17 governors of the Southern states of Nigeria, both of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the Chairmanship of the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, met in Asaba, the capital of Delta State on May 11, 2021, and took far-reaching decisions, including that, based on the principles of fairness, equity and justice, the presidency should rotate to the South at the end of the statutory eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure. “And this very Governor Okowa was the host of that historic meeting. The Southern governors later met again in Lagos, on July 5, where they reaffirmed their decision, and again in Enugu, on September 16, to restate the call that the presidency should rotate to the South in 2023.

"It is unspeakable and quite disappointing that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who is currently Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, and a native of Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area (one of the Igbo-speaking areas) of Delta State, would exhibit such barefaced unreliability. “It is, therefore, most unfortunate that the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa who should know better, accepted his appointment as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. We do not have anything personal against Ifeanyi Okowa but his action is treacherous and tantamount to a despicable pawning of the political future of the people of Southern Nigeria. “Governor Okowa has, by his action, betrayed the trust reposed on him by his colleagues; the southern governors, the entire good people of southern Nigeria and all well-meaning Nigerians. He has made himself persona non grata, not only, with SMBLF but all citizens who treasure our oneness and yearn for a more united and peaceful Nigeria”
