1. A Jedi in the Matrix- Japan Superpower: Superhuman reflexes Isao Machii has an ability to process things at a completely different sensory level. So rather than see a bullet moving through the air, for example, he can anticipate where it is at that precise moment. Using his Katana he chops things out of the air for people’s entertainment. He can also be found on Youtube plucking airsoft pellets from the air with his sword. His ability doesn’t allow him to see things before they happen, but allows him to anticipate where something will be at that exact moment in time which makes him a cross between Luke Skywalker and Neo.

2. The ‘Garth’ Monks – Tibet Superpower : Altering body temperatures using only the mind Garth, a D.C comics superhero was capable of altering the heat of the body using only his mind, among other things. Although a pretty ridiculous power, there are a group of Tibetan monks who have the ability to do just that! They have been recorded to raise the temperature of their skin by up to 8 degrees Celsius while their core temperature remains exactly the same. They first came to light in the 1970′s during a visit to Havard University by the Dalai Lama. The following years resulted in remote testing in the Himalayas of the monks. The ultimate test was making the monks sleep out on a snowy ledge in the mountains. With an altitude of 15,000ft and a temperature of -17 degrees Celsius, not only did the monks not freeze to death, they supposedly didn’t even shiver in their little monk garments. This is more than can be said for the shivering and shaking camera men filming them (who were wrapped up in blankets all night). By slowing the blood flow to the brain they will provide it with less oxygen, thus allowing them to weather all kinds of intense atmospheric conditions. Watch out for the next Planet Earth series where Tibetan monks are sent into space without any space suits or equipment.

3. Daredevil – USA Superpower : Uses sonar Ben Underwood passed away in 2009 aged 16, but his story is almost unbelievable. Ben became blind as a toddler after suffering from cancer of the eyes. Where most may have succumbed to a life of guidance, Ben took it upon himself to communicate like a dolphin. Over the years as a child he developed the ability to use ‘echolocation’ to get about. It’s the same way dolphins use sonar under water to locate objects and food. Ben clicks his tongue and with this can locate everything in his immediate vicinity. He can ride a bike, play football and was practicing martial arts using every sense other than sight. His story is pretty inspirational for those with disabilities or those without and shows just what the human body is capable of doing given enough determination.

4. Battery Man – SerbiaSuperpower :Electricity conduction Slavisa Pajkic has set a number of world records for various astonishing abilities he seems to possess. He first realised he was gifted when he was unable to feel an electric current running through a live fence (which for some reason he touched). Regardless, he can cook sausages using only his hands, conduct 20,000 volts through his body without frying and can heat a cup of water to 97 degrees Celsius in well under two minutes. ‘When there is a sudden power failure, my folks do not have to worry. My house is always shining. I can be an insulator, conductor, accumulator and heater…” said Slavisa. His next goal is to conduct one million volts through his body and says “I will try to charge on it and become a wireless laser man” If you see Slavisa on the streets make sure to greet him, but not to shake his hand.

5. Das Uberboy – Germany Superpower : Superhuman strength and incredibly stacked from birth Liam Hoekstra is just as stacked aged 3 and suffers/benefits from a similar genetic disorder that makes his dad look like his son as well! In 1999, history was made when a baby popped out with more muscles than his dad. Perhaps this particular super power should feature higher up in the list, but at such a young age it’s unclear what ‘Das Uberboy’ is going to be capable of in the future. Perhaps it will all wilt away like a 6 month gym stint followed by the purchase of an X-box, or perhaps he’ll grow up into the real Hulk we all secretly hope to see. However, at the age of 4, this young lad from Germany has 6 times the strength of the average child his age. Unfortunately for us his identity has been kept a secret (could be a cover for X-Men involvement)
|
6. X-Ray Girl – Russia Superpower : X-Ray vision Her look is said to be piercing.. At age 10, Natasha Demkina developed the ability to detect the location and condition of her mother’s organs using only her eyes. Since then she has successfully detected cysts, ulcers and cancers in those who showed up at her door asking for health checks. When taken for a check- up at the hospital, Natasha even told the doctor about the scars on his body he’d attained from a car accident, that no one else could see at the time. Pretty impressive.
|
7. Aquaman – New Zealand Superpower : Breathes underwater (Well he might as well be doing..)Kiwi Dave Mullins much like many of the others, holds Guinness World Records for what he is capable of. He not only has records for amount of time spent under water, but also total distance travelled. Being able to swim under water for 4 minutes and 2 seconds and travel as far as 244 meters would really take some doing, and that is what he does with just one breathe. In 2008, he also set a record for getting to 108 meters in depth without any oxygen or swimming equipment. Forget Iron Man, this guy is Iron Lung, although it doesn’t have the same ring to it.
|
8. The Incredible Insomniac – Vietnam Superpower : Staying awake… forever Although there are a handful of people from around the world who don’t sleep, Ngoc Thai is probably the best at it. At the age of 31 Ngoc Thai came down with a severe fever and has not slept since. That means he hasn’t slept since the 1970′s. His condition does not affect his physical nor mental health and doctors say he is completely healthy besides a slightly damaged liver. No matter how many sleeping pills he takes nothing can put him down, not even the two bags of rice weighing 49kg each that he carries to his farm every day. It’s almost like living two lives at once…
|
9. Rain Man – USA Superpower: Remembers everything Kim Peek died in 2009, but by this time he had perfectly memorized 12,000 books. He had become so good at memorizing information that he could read two pages at a time using one eye for each page. He is said to have had the best example of an eidetic memory/photographic memory and he could recall 98% of everything that he ever experienced in perfect detail. His story was the inspiration for the movie Rain Man, although he believed using his abilities for things such as gambling to be “unethical”. Having him as your friend would probably be more of a nuisance than a benefit, although he’d be pretty good at remember travel itineraries, directions, maps, phone numbers and shopping lists. Though if the world was in total anarchy, calling upon Kim Peek wouldn’t benefit anyone as the only thing he could be capable of, would be remembering it happen.

Superpowers are something every boy has thought about and many men still think about. Having the brain to create the Iron Man machine like Tony Stark, having superhuman strength like the Hulk or being able to fly like Superman are all powers many of us dream of having. Well as it turns out, there are some people who actually do have such powers… Top 10 – People of the World With Real Life Superpowers................... 10 – Mister Eat it all – France Superpower : Can eat (and surely crap) anything! Michael Lotito was born in 1950 and is a French entertainer. He is known as ‘Monsier Mangetout’ which means ‘Mister Eat-it-All’. He possesses a stomach and intestine with walls twice the thickness of a normal human and his digestive acids are extremely powerful. This allows him to digest the most inedible items you could imagine. He has eaten bicycles, glass, rubber, television sets as well as holding the Guiness World Record for eating a plane (which took 2 years) by simply cutting the items up and consuming them with oil and water. Unless you were stuck in a plane wreck, Mister Eat-it-All is probably the last super hero you’d call upon. Nonetheless, he is still pretty impressive to watch on Youtube.

No matter what is going on in your career, good advice is universal. No matter what problems you are trying to solve, chances are someone else before you had a similar problem. I've been a journalist for the better part of two decades and during that time I've interviewed and written about thousands of people in various stages of success, from billionaires to entrepreneurs launching startups (one while fighting brain cancer). All of that has led me to conclude that there are certain universal "business truths" — tips and tricks that work for nearly everyone in every business. They are: 1. Have a passion for your work. If your work is meaningful to you, your work life will be a joy. 2. If you can't be passionate about the work itself, be passionate about the reason you do it. Maybe you don't love your job/company/ career, but the money and benefits are good for your family. Be passionate in your choice to do right by your family. 3. If something needs changing, be the one to lead the change. If you dislike your job but are stuck, work on getting the skills that will get you unstuck. If there's a problem at your office, work on being the one solve it. 4. Start small and build from there. 5. Do the obvious stuff first, then progress to the harder stuff. (Otherwise known as going for the low-hanging fruit.) 6. If it's not broke, don't fix. Do improve it. 7. The hardest lesson to learn is when to keep going and when to quit. No one can teach you that. At some point, you have to choose. 8. The definition of crazy is to do the same thing the same way and expect a different result. If the result isn't good, change something. 9. No one succeeds alone. 10. Ask for help. Be specific when asking. Be graceful and grateful when help comes. 11. Surround yourself with positive people and you'll have a positive outcome. 12. Embrace diversity. The best way to compensate for your own weaknesses is to pick teammates who have different strengths. 13. People experience the world differently. Two people can attend the same meeting and walk away with different impressions. Don't fight that. Use it. 14. You don't have to like someone to treat that person with respect and courtesy. 15. Don't "should" all over someone, and don't let someone else "should" all over you. 16. No matter what you do or how much you achieve, there are always people who have more. 17. There will always people who have less, too. 18. No matter how much you excel at things, you are not a more worthwhile human being than anyone else. No one else is more worthwhile than you, either. 19. If you spend most of your time using your talents and doing things you are good at, you're more likely to be happy. 20. If you spend most of your time struggling to improve your weaknesses, you're likely to be frustrated. 21. Practice is the only true way to master a new skill. Be patient with yourself while you learn something new. 22. The only way to stay fresh is to keep learning new things. 23. To learn new things means being a beginner, and that means making mistakes. 24. The more comfortable you grow with making beginner mistakes, the easier it is to learn new things. 25. You will never have all the resources (time, money, people, etc.) that you want for your project or company. No one ever has all the resources they want. 26. A lack of resources isn't an excuse. It's a blessing in disguise. You'll have to get creative. 27. Creativity and innovation are skills that can be learned and practiced by doing your usual things in a new way. 28. Take calculated risks. 29. In the early stages of a company, career, or project, you'll have to say "yes" to a lot of things. In the later stages, you'll have to say "no." 30. Negative feedback is necessary. Don't automatically reject it. Examine it for the nuggets of truth, and then disregard the rest. 31. When delivering criticism, talk about the work, not the person. 32. Think big. Dream big. (The alternative is to think small, dream small.) 33. Treat your dream as an ultimate roadmap. You don't have to achieve your dream right away, but the only way to get there is to take many steps toward it. 34. If you think big, you will hear "no" more than you hear "yes." They don't get to decide. You do. 35. How long it takes you to create something is less important than how valuable and worthwhile it will be once it's created. 36. If there is one secret to success, it's this: communicate your plans with other people and keep communicating those plans. 37. Grow your network. Make an effort to meet new people and to keep in contact with those you know. 38. No matter what technology or service you are creating/inventing at your company, it's not about the product; it's always about the people and the lives you will improve. 39. No matter how successful you get, you can still fail and fail big. 40. Failure isn't a bad thing. It's part of the process. 41. Things always go wrong. The only way to keep that from hurting you is to plan for that. 42. Learn how to respectfully, but firmly, say "no." 43. Say "yes" as much as you can. 44. In order to say "yes" often, attach boundaries or a scope of work around your "yes." 45. No matter how rich, famous, or successful another person is, inside that person is just a human being with hopes, dreams, and fears, the same as you. 46. Getting what you want doesn't mean you'll be happy. Happiness is the art of being satisfied with what you already have. 47. Working with difficult personalities will be a part of every job. Be respectful, do your job well, and nine times out of 10 that person will move on. 48. For that one-out-of-10 time, remember you aren't a victim. Do what you need to get a new job. 49. As soon as you have something to demonstrate, get an executive champion to back or support your project. 50. Focus on what you want, not what you don't want. |
When I was a freshman in high school, and struggling to find my way, someone anonymously slipped a note into my locker one afternoon. It said, “Don’t let them get inside your head. You’re not boring, nerdy or weird. You’re complex, creative and far too intelligent for their small words. And for the record, you are also infinitely more attractive than you give yourself credit for.” I never discovered who wrote the note, but whoever they are, they changed my life. From that day forward, I changed the way I talked to myself. Specifically, I STOPPED saying… 1. “I’m not good enough yet.” You might think you’re not good enough, but you’ll surprise yourself if you keep trying. Your past does not determine who you are. Your past prepares you for who you are capable of becoming. What ultimately defines you is how well you rise after falling. Don’t ever be afraid to give yourself a chance to be everything you are capable of being. Forget the haters. Never undervalue who you are and what you’re capable of. Excellence is the result of loving more than others think is necessary, dreaming more than others think is practical, risking more than others think is safe, and doing more than others think is possible. 2. “I should be living up to other people’s expectations.” Remember, it’s always better to be at the bottom of the ladder you want to climb than the top of the one you don’t. Happiness and success is all about spending your life in your own way. Always be yourself and walk your own path. No one can ever tell you you’re doing it wrong. Everyone has their own dreams, their own struggles, and a different path that makes sense for them. You are YOU for a reason. If you end up living a boring, miserable life because you ignored yourself and instead listened to a parent, a teacher, or some gal on TV telling you how to live your life, then you have no one but yourself to blame. Just remember, the smartest and most courageous act is simply to think for yourself and listen to you own intuition. In the end, it’s better to die your way, than live someone else’s idea of your life. (Angel and I discuss this in more detail in the “Self-Love” and “Relationships” chapters of 1,000 Little Things Happy, Successful People Do Differently .) 3. “What they think and say about me matters.” What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you? Don’t let others crush your dreams. Do just once what they say you can’t do, and you will never pay attention to their negativity again. Don’t walk away from these negative people… RUN! Good things happen when you distance yourself from negativity and those who create it. Truth be told, no one has the right to judge you. People may have heard your stories, but they can’t feel what you are going through; they aren’t living YOUR life. So forget what they say about you. Focus on how you feel about yourself, and do what you know in your heart is right. 4. “I need recognition for my actions to be worthwhile.” Do what you know is right. Integrity is doing the right thing, no matter what, even when nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not. Life always finds its balance. Don’t expect to get back everything you give. Don’t expect recognition for every effort you make. And don’t expect your kindness to be instantly recognized or your love to be understood by everyone you encounter. What seems like the right thing to do could also be the hardest thing you have ever done. Do it anyway. There is no greatness or peace of mind where there is betrayal of your own goodwill. Always aim at complete sincerity of your thoughts, words and deeds. If it is wrong, don’t do it. If it is untrue, don’t repeat it. Do what you do because you believe it’s the right thing to do. Do the right thing even when nobody is looking. Be one of the people who make a true difference in the world by leaving it a little better and more wholesome than you found it. 5. “It’s too late for me.” Don’t let yesterday steal your present. Don’t judge yourself by your past… you don’t live there anymore. Let go, grow, and move forward. As we grow older and wiser, we begin to realize what we need and what we need to leave behind. Sometimes walking away is a step forward. Sometimes a break from your routine is exactly what you need. Unless you try to master something beyond what you already know, you will feel forever stuck. Don’t waste another minute regretting what you did yesterday, and start doing what you have to do now, so tomorrow you won’t regret what you did today. It’s not too late. If you feel like it is, it’s just your inner fears lying to you. But remember, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in your mind. It’s difficult to follow your heart, but it’s a tragedy to let the lies of fear stop you. (Read Awaken the Giant Within .) 6. “I need to have it all figured out.” Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker? Believe it or not, sometimes it’s the latter. Sometimes the greatest dreams that come true are the dreams you never even knew you had. It’s about open-minded exploration. There are no wrong turns in life, only paths you didn’t know you were meant to walk. You never can be certain what’s around the corner. It could be everything, or it could be nothing. You keep putting one foot in front of the other, and then one day you look back and realize you’ve climbed to the peak of the most beautiful mountaintop. 7. “I do not have enough to be positive and grateful.” Some days you’ll find diamonds and some days all you’ll see is coal. However, every day is a golden opportunity to learn, practice gratitude, and positively impact the world around you. Do not ask for instant fulfillment in your life, but for patience to accept your current frustrations. Do not ask for perfection in all you do, but for the wisdom to not repeat past mistakes. Do not ask for more before saying, “THANK YOU” for everything you have already received. And remember, everything in life is temporary. So if things are good, enjoy it. It won’t last forever. If things are bad, don’t worry because it won’t last forever either. Just because life isn’t stress-free right now, doesn’t mean you can’t laugh. Just because something is bothering you, doesn’t mean you can’t smile. The trick is to be grateful when your mood is high and graceful when it is low. 8. “My life should be easier and free of discomfort.” Great challenges make life interesting; overcoming them makes life meaningful. It’s how you deal with failure and discomfort that determines your level of success and happiness. Laugh at your mistakes and learn from them. Joke about your troubles and gather strength from them. Have fun with the challenges you face and then conquer them. Emotional discomfort in life, when accepted, rises, crests and crashes in a series of waves. Each wave washes an old layer of you away and deposits treasures you never expected to find. Out goes inexperience, in comes awareness; out goes frustration, in comes resilience; out goes hatred, in comes kindness. No one would say these waves of emotional experience are easy to ride, but the rhythm of emotional discomfort that you learn to tolerate while doing so is natural, helpful and prevalent. The discomfort eventually leaves you stronger and healthier than it found you. (Read Man’s Search for Meaning .) 9. “I can’t forgive them.” Forgiveness is a promise. When you forgive someone you are making a promise not to hold the unchangeable past against your present self. Forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened was completely excusable, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that person should still be welcome in your life. It simply means you have made peace with the pain, and are ready to let it go and move on with your life. Forgiveness has nothing to do with freeing a criminal of his or her crime. It has everything to do with freeing yourself of the burden of being a victim – letting go of the pain and transforming yourself from victim to victor. 10. “I am alone.” You can’t make it through on your own. None of us can. That’s why, thank goodness, you are never as alone as you sometimes feel. So many of us are fighting the same exact battle alongside you. You may feel alone sometimes, but you are not alone in being alone. To lose sleep worrying about a loved one. To have trouble picking yourself up after someone lets you down. To feel rejected because someone didn’t care about you enough to stay. To be afraid to try something new for fear you may fail. None of this means you’re weird or dysfunctional. It just means you’re human, and that you need a little time to regroup and recalibrate yourself. No matter how embarrassed or pathetic you feel about your own situation, there are others out there experiencing the same emotions. When you hear yourself say, “I am all alone,” it’s just your mind trying to sell you a lie. There’s always someone who can relate to you. Perhaps you can’t immediately talk to them, but they are out there, and that’s all you need to know right now. Next steps… If I eavesdropped on your self-talk, would I hear statements that empower happiness, or statements that refute it? The next time you decide to unclutter your life and clean up your space, start with your intellectual space by clearing out the old lies and negative self-talk you often recite to yourself. The floor is yours… What would you add to the list? What kind of negative self-talk do you need to stop? What will you never say about yourself again? President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said irrespective of the challenges Nigerians might have faced, the country remained a truly blessed one, whose diversity remained its source of strength. Jonathan said this in his New Year message to the nation made available by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati. He added that the Federal Government would fight corruption more in 2014. He said, “Our administration believes that the cost of governance in the country is still too high and must be further reduced. We will also take additional steps to stem the tide of corruption and leakages. “We have worked hard to curb fraud in the administration of the pension system and the implementation of the petroleum subsidy scheme. We have introduced a Pensions Transition Arrangement Department under a new Director-General. This department will now ensure that those of our pensioners still under the old scheme receive their pensions and gratuities, and are not subjected to fraud. “Prosecution of all those involved in robbing our retired people will continue. The Petroleum Subsidy Scheme is also now being operated under new strict guidelines to tackle previous leakages in the scheme and prevent fraud. “Foreign travel by government personnel will be further curtailed. This directive shall apply to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government. Our strategy to curb leakages will increasingly rely on introducing the right technologies such as biometrics and digitising government payments.” He added, “Whatever challenges we may have faced, whatever storms we may have confronted and survived, Nigeria remains a truly blessed country, a country of gifted men and women who continue to distinguish themselves in all spheres of life, a country whose diversity remains a source of strength,” he said. The President observed that 2014 would be a momentous one for the country for several reasons, including the fact that the nation would celebrate its 100 years of existence in the New Year. He recalled that the British colonial authorities amalgamated the separate Protectorates of Southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria on January 1, 1914 to give birth to Nigeria. “Year 2014, to Nigerians, is not just the beginning of a new year, but the end of a century of national existence and the beginning of another,” he said. This, he said, was a moment for sober reflection and for pride in all that was great about Nigeria. While reiterating his position that the nation’s amalgamation was not a mistake, the President said as they celebrate the 100 years of its nationhood, Nigerians must resolve to continue to work together as one united people. He assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to the development of the country and the consolidation of peace, unity and democratic governance. He added that despite several domestic and global challenges in 2013, Nigeria witnessed many positive developments which his administration would strive to build upon in 2014. The President admitted that the cost of governance in the country was still too high and must be further reduced. He also promised to take additional steps to stem the tide of corruption and leakages. Jonathan added that foreign travel by government personnel would be further curtailed and that the directive would apply to all ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government. The President also reeled out statistics on the strides he said his administration achieved in the agriculture, health, education, water and housing sectors among others and promised to do more in the New Year. [quote author=Big.game]i was wondering, is it morally right to pay a brideprice for your soulmate? Doesn't that objectify the person in question, won't it give the payer the impression that he is buying a commodity, and also the right to treat the commodity in whatever way that pleases them, cause they paid for it?
