Wrong title & heading. The crime happened in ROI and not UK.

I'll say be open and firm when you can resume work. If you need 4 weeks, let your employer know, e.g. for family commitments, I'm only able to start on 27th of next month. They'll wait and the sky will not fall. You can then have time to be there for mother and baby and make alternative arrangements for care.

hyzich:
Elders Good Morning,

Please I need your candid advice, I recently got a permanent offer which is closer to where I live and pays more than my former role but the snag here is that my wife is heavily pregnant and I forgot to discuss this during the interview. The new coy wants me to resume by 27th of this month because they are aware that I’m on a FTC in my current role which is difficult for me because my wife has less than 3 weeks to EDD. Please how can I share this with them than won’t affect my current offer.

2nd Plan- I also intend to get someone to come in and assist my wife on days I will work on site so that I won’t need to take any excuse. I am really confused as I do not know how best to address this.

Regards

Try dey cover some sensitive details from public eye. The firm could see this and work backward, no dey jeopardize your chances.

heroshark:
Hello Mentors,

I got an offer with a top Engineering and Management consulting firm, with a start date of 11th September 2023.

They said they need to switch me to a skilled worker visa prior to my starting date.

I just got a mail this morning, to submit all the necessary documents, that they will proceed with the visa application immediately.

I started my MSc last year September so I will be graduating this September which is still 7-8months ahead.

My question are:
1) Should I proceed with the application now or wait till closer to my course end date ?

2) They said they will cover the cost of visa fee but I'm expected to pay the IHS fee myself which is currently £625 x no of years ( however, they included a caveat that if I should inform them if I can't afford it) should I go ahead and informed them that I cannot afford it, will they offer to pay it on my behalf ?

3) My current student visa will expire 30th January 2024, which means I still have about 1year of IHS surcharge left. Will this be transferred or can I claim it back?

Its not the loaned amount plus 20% of the value.
Its just 20% of the value at the time of repayment.

Ticha:

The amount you will pay back is the money you were loaned plus 20% of the value as at the time you're repaying. Whichever way, unless house values fall, you will lose that 20%.

This your comparison na wah !
You conveniently excluded people on £500 - £1k a day and making a general assumption on minimum wage salary.
Not canvassing for UK or 9ja but don't give wrong information. Whatever rocks one's boat

EkelediliBuhari:

Yes Some factories pay more than 7k per day....

if you add light, water and transportation bills, the Uk still trumps nigeria bruh.

Overall living expenses abroad is over the roof compared to Nigeria.

Finally be informed that finding a job that pays above 15k per anum in the UK is a herculean task.

This case is the reverse, the Op wanted £.

[quote author=Solumtoya post=113545824]

I'm so sorry you had to pass through this. Reach out to both Banks but you might have to start setting your mind on the fact that the money is gone.

You said "stay away from Nigerians" and I warn it might not be the solution. Scammers are everywhere, not just among Nigerians. We need to be extremely careful and think this through deeply whether with Nigerians or any other Nationality especially when transacting with someone we met on Whatsapp, Gumtree, Facebook, etc even Nairaland! Heck, you can even be scammed on this very thread, be that suspicious!

Simply wait 3 months after you receive your lump sum payment.
My brokers allows ajoor, it was classified thrift savings. Its not unusual for some communities as they explained.

Bluetherapy:

That's if the person is taking it towards the end of the contribution. I suspect that this might nit work if it's done towards the middle of the contribution. How would you wait 3 months without contributing your own part of the contribution which will obviously show up in the bank statement?

Thanks a lot for sharing.
Bestest wink property advice I've seen in this forum.

Wherever one is on the property ladder, its best to leverage information like this and any help available.
HTB for is a great leverage.

[quote author=Ticha post=104440774]Using our latest family home purchase as an example - we bought a 5 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 garage semi-detached in 2017 for £225k. We put down a 15% (£35k)deposit as we were buying as a family home. Interest was 2.18% so monthly payments just under £700pcm.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean buying at premium and selling at a loss.
There is equally no guarantee an old build will appreciate in value in 2 yrs.
After 2 years, your deposit and your monthly equity is intact. If house appreciates, it's a plus. My point it's a better savings, than waiting 2 extra years to save money for an old build. The rent you are paying for 2 years, is effectively saved to buy your old build cool and build your portfolio

Estroller:
In that year 2, the person will most likely be dealing with negative equity as the new build would have been bought at a premium, so if he sells he will be doing so at a loss or at best breaking even.

Travel / Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Jbloc: 10:07pm On Aug 03, 2021
No oga.
You can remortgage, sell or do whatever you want on the house. You can pay off your loan early too, irrespective of the current house value. Its all a win-win situation.

EngrSaks:
I will just use my guys cases to give the limitations of help to buy

As the amount of the house increased, the amount he owed also increased

After 5 years, your interest rate increases, it also increased with the increase in value

Hard to remortgage to get out money to reinvest in another property

In a traditional "old" house, you can add a new toilet, refurbish the bathroom or upgrade the kitchen or add a conservatory and get instant increase in property value

In a new built, to make amendment you need plenty talk to get approval for minor renovation

Now I'm looking at home ownership as a means of wealth generation...if you can be remortgaging and buying new property every 5-8 years then at retirement you should have at least four houses without too much stress

Plus, everyone should get life insurance themselves and their partners o...na life insurance oyibo take dey ensure say their house go remain for the family after them die...insurance will pay off any unpaid mortgage after death

Travel / Re: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by Jbloc: 10:03pm On Aug 03, 2021
I beg to disagree.
The are both the same scenario, with HTB is even better
Person 2 can sell off his Help to Buy house in year 2, pay off his government liability and buy an old house. He has effectively used the interest free loan to get a leverage.
No point to wait an extra year and be paying rent, leverage the loan and get on the ladder.

EngrSaks:
Guys please think through before rushing to buy a new built house with help to buy o, it's not bad but buying an old house is alot better...

I know 2 people that bought houses roughly the same time...one bought with help to buy and the other bought with the normal old house deposit

The one that got the old house has remortgage, placed the house on rent and have gotten another house...while the one with help to buy has their liability to the govt increased

Even if it means waiting a year extra to gather the old house deposit, gather it, and then upgrade the house small small...in a few years you can remortgage, change the use and get a new house (with the increase in value)

Stay woke!

Sad .......but no be one bottle do your friend tongue
Moral of story - Man, know thyself!
Know when you have gauged and quit and safely drive home. cheesy

wallg123:
Please Let’s all be guided. Don’t drink and drive in the UK embarassed
I went out last night to London to meet up with old work colleagues and friends at Regents Park. One of my friends who also happens to be an engineer like myself secured a job few months back that pays him over £75k + £15k bonus and a 2021 plate BMW. He was asking me to leave my company and look for more money. I said baba I’m comfortable at my job and I’m trying to stay and I’ve not thought of moving elsewhere yet. After listening to him rant about his recent achievements I almost felt I was doing bad in my career. I was surprised he drove this new car into Central London. Anyways I left regent park at 09:00 pm to catch my train back home. Only for me to wake up this morning with the news that my friend was involved in an accident and his new car has been written off. He was also arrested last night as it appears the accident was very serious. I called his phone this morning m and the a police lady pick up the call and said he will give me a ring later.
My guy needs his driving license for his job, which means he has lost the job. he was driving under the influence of alcohol and weed. He might go to jail depending on police evidence..
The moral of the story remains please avoid the temptation of drinking even if na 1 bottle and driving. Also don’t let no another person achievements make you feel less about yourself….
Let me go and look for my friend

All born abroad.
I hear I could skip the ILR and go straight to naturalization, still researching though!

dustydee:

If the kids were born here, you don't need to apply for ILR, you can apply for citizenship after you get your ILR.

I just paid the £3.3k for two and its really heartbreaking cry
Still recovering, to do another x3 for kids. smiley

Chukwuka16:

I will go for the Tier 1/Global Talent as the easiest. 3 Years to ILR (5 for passport and 5 for spouse for ILR/passport), the least documentation and time spent on Tier 2 counts. The cost is the only downside. I'm due next month but still considering applying as I haven't been able to justify that amount of money leaving my account. All my previous visa's bar one were done at a cost to my employer including my wife's, but this time around I can't fathom £2300 + £800 (same day) + £200 (transport/fingerprint) = £3300 for ILR at once!

The UK is really making a killing from visas. I'm only happy now because our EU friends will feel the same heat and they don't even have that kinda of money especially for Tier 2 (skilled worker as now is).

Again, there seems to be a catch with Tier 2/skilled worker visa - salary threshold when due for ILR.

I was caught up in that December 2017 flight mess with Medview but they did refund my money. I recall there was a special No to call then to chase up.

Phenmeson:
Happy weekend to we all. I know we have different scam techniques on social media now. Let's not fall into any. I was scammed by our own indigenous Medview Airline 2017. Bought 3flights ticket to 9ja,flight cancelled Christmas eve. Requested refunds from the Airline, no positive outcome. Lodge the complain to Civil Aviation Authority, & Local MP, they tried their best for 3months but Medview Airline showed their 9ja muscle by not even replying to any of the mails. Let's stay safe.
