From the way I learn and the little I've been able to learn thus far, "Dan" means "Son" which is why "Dan Uwa" or "Dan Uba" or "Dan baba" or "Dan Gote" etc all can be translated as "Son of my mother" or "Son of my Father" or "Son of baba" or "Son of Gote" etc respectively.

I can't say this as an authority because I'm also still learning . Silkmoth33, Caseless, Delightful1, Talk2riel please assist. Thank you as you do this.
