Nairaland General"Shame On You I Am Not Dying Now"-mugabe Tells Successors by Jcan(op): 6:54pm On Apr 07, 2016
President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, has come up with another blow to his successors who are wishing him death.

At ninety-two, Mugabe remains Africa's oldest leader, having been in power since 1980 since the country got her independence from Great Britain. Mugabe was speaking to about 10,000 veterans of the country's 1970s independence war that his frequent trips to Malaysia and Singapore had fed the media house that he was ill and dying making his successor to fight in party meetings.

"You then see a stampede now, they will be saying the president is dying, I am not dying, shame on you. I am there at the mercy of the people. If the people say no, go, I go. But if the people say no, we still want you, I stay on." President Mugabe said.

HealthDon't Be Desperate By Breast Cancer, Keep Your Hopes Alive by Jcan(op): 12:39pm On Apr 07, 2016
Life is too short and one has limited time to enjoy it. Everyone should always try to gather the happiness around him or her. We all face adversities in our life but it doesn't mean that there are only adversities. Life is a combination of all sort of situations, behaviors and way forwards. We need to keep a balance among all. So don't get desperate even if you are facing a disease like breast cancer and always intact with the hopes.
We always seek for good things trough out our life but obviously it's not possible. One has to go through and face different situations in life. Breast cancer is also one of the situations that no one wants to face but sometimes you have to face the reality. Early breast cancer detection is a blessing and it further decides the direction for you.
Find out positivity to dispel the negativity...
When people come to know that they have a dangerous illness like breast cancer they often get into negative feelings and thoughts such as terror, annoyance or gloom. But the real aspect is to find out the positive elements that can sooth you and can help you to get out of this.
Think about the people who die suddenly, for example in an accident and they don't get even a moment to recall their condition. People with disease can at least have a chance to fight for their life or to complete the incomplete affairs. They can spend more and more time with their loved ones. I have heard many people saying that diagnosis made it easy to prioritize their daily routine as well as to understand the true meanings of life.
Can you specify Quality of Life?
Do you know what quality of life is? Quality of life is your personal judgment about happiness, contentment or enjoyment of life. This includes:
• Control over your feelings
• Symptom relief
• try to pick happiness around you
• Energy of life
• A positive self-image
What you need to do?
You need to be very much peculiar about whatever you have to do or you wish to. So have a glimpse of the points mentioned below.
• You need to know about your disease
• treatment options
• be Understandable and interactive
• set your targets and goals
• keep your head high for positive results
• achieve these goals
• Symptom relief and management
• You need to understand what you want and how you want.
• Emotional and spiritual support
• Advanced care planning
• Support and love of people around you a true essence in fact
Every person is different from other. Every story is unique. There is probably not a particular way to live your life. Everyone has a different opinion and different story to share. Once I read somewhere and quoting it here, "people who know me, know that I've been in hospital recently react kind and then I'll tell them you know that I'm feeling better and coming along. But if people don't know, then I don't go there. I just say I'm doing okay or... I try not to get into it. I'm tired of it. Tired of talking about it and... and I don't want people to, you know; sometimes they just turn sympathetic once they hear and I don't really want that either. So if I can get away with it I say as little as possible."...

Nairaland GeneralFuel Scarcity: The Situation In Port Harcourt Today. by Jcan(op): 10:06pm On Apr 05, 2016
I took a walk around the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation's (NNPC), gas station along Lagos Bus/Stop, Town, Port Harcourt, the fuel scarcity is really biting hard on Nigerians.

There was a long queue as motorist were struggling to fix themselves in these queues while others were so stranded and do not know what to do at the moment.

Some of these motorist pay #500 to touts in order to fix them into the fuel station, while some motorist resorted to black market sold at #200 per litre against the government fixed price of #86 and #86.50 for NNPC and other fuel stations respectively.

HealthSigns And Symptoms Of Breast Cancer by Jcan(op): 4:51pm On Apr 03, 2016
This is a cancer that develops from breast tissue, and it's one of the most common cancers affecting females. Most women who get it are over 40 years old, this is a ration of 8 to 10. Younger women and men also get this cancer in rare case. If it's treated early enough, breast cancer is curable and can be prevented from spreading to other parts of the body.
In this article, I will feature on breast cancer in women.
October
The month of October is worldwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's dedicated to raise consciousness about the thousands of women who are diagnosed with the disease every year. The pink ribbon and the colour pink in general, is an international symbol for breast cancer month. Pink is considered feminine and the roles that come with this gender like being beautiful, caring, good and being cooperative.
Signs and Symptoms to look out for:
Lump in the breast.

Fluid coming from the nipple.

Dimpling of the skin around the breast.

A change in breast shape.

A red scaly patch of skin.

Swollen lymph nodes, around the breast.

Shortness of breath.
Causes
No one knows the exact cause of this cancer. Medics rarely know why some women develop it while others don't. Most women who have this cancer will never be able to tell the exact cause. One thing for sure this cancer is always caused by damage to a cell's DNA.
Risks factors
Some of these risks can be changed and for some we can do little about as we have absolutely no control over them.
A female whose female relatives have had breast cancer is two to three times more likely to develop the disease. This is because the disease is hereditary.

Advancing in age. As we saw earlier the big percentage of cancer patients lies from 40 years of age onwards.

Lack of childbearing or lack of breastfeeding.

Great exposure to estrogen hormone. Estrogen makes cells to divide, the more the cells divide, they become abnormal, thus becoming cancerous. Estrogen exposure is greatly affected by the age a lady starts and stops menstruating, the average length of her menstrual cycle, and her age at first childbirth. Her risk for this cancer is increased if she starts menstruating before age 12, has her first child after age 30, or stops menstruating after age the age of 50 years and above. Also, if she has her menstrual cycle shorter or longer than the average 24-28 days.

Radiation exposure. If you get radiation treatments to your chest as a child or young adult, your risk of the disease is increased.

Diet. Research has shown that women with high fat intake diets are more prone to getting the disease.

Lack of physical activity.

The ladies that smoke and drink alcohol increase the risk of developing this cancer.

Chances of getting breast cancer are increased if you've had breast cancer in one breast before.
Diagnosis
Do self-examination of the breast always to check for the above symptoms. If you see anything suspicious see your doctor immediately.

Do mammography tests every two years for early detection.
Although screening for breast cancer cannot prevent you from getting breast cancer, it can help find it early when it is easier to treat. Talk to your doctor about which screening tests are right for you, and when you should have them.

FamilyHelp Your Children Resist Peer Pressure by Jcan(op): 3:46pm On Apr 01, 2016
Peer pressure is the influence that is either negative or positive that is usually installed to a person so that they can fit in with their peers. A person might be forced to acquire certain values choices or even decisions so that they fit in. Parents might feel powerless in some circumstances, but they are actually the best people to help their teens to resist troublesome peers. Here is some guidance to help your kids if they are under peer pressure;
· Intervene with love: A times a child might flatter either in decision-making or by being assertive, it's usually the parents work to step in. It's a parent's work to instill some value which helps the child to make the right decision when they are in a difficult situation. Parents should take stiffer measure in instances where the person is engaging in negative behaviors regularly. A crisis should be avoided if the parent intervenes early enough by making their children feel valued and loved unconditionally. This can give them the ability to beat peer pressure easily.
· Appreciate positive peers: A friend can set an example which will be a turning point to a troubled teen. A child might get tired hearing a No from the parent but the same advice by a teen results into a great impact, and so through this a parent can turn to youth leaders so that they can counsel their peers against making bad choices and avoiding reckless behaviors.
· Face the fears: Explain to your child how you were able to withstand peer pressure, this will teach them an invaluable lesson. Help them face their fears for when they are about to get ridiculed or lose a friend. Explain to them how it's difficult to go against some practices everyone else is doing, but how standing out can help in developing confidence, courage, and maturity.
· Have some practical sessions: Practicing for difficult sessions can help not only in building a child's confidence and skills. This also helps a child to assertive and not being aggressive. An important lesson of saying no is usually taught and that way a peer will understand them and their reasons and not rejecting them. With practices, they find different tactics like leaving a scene or threatening to tell the authority for when of a difficult situation.
· Promote self-respect: Encourage your child to develop their talents and interests this will make them less vulnerable. Help them build their self-esteem by encouraging them to develop a hobby, do social work or a part-time job. These activities help in discouraging boredom and also introduces them to peers of the same interests. Always ask their opinions, consider what he does say or believe.
· Have an open honest relationship: To know about your child's concerns one should always be a good listener. Invite open discussions about important issues and always show them that you care. It will make them have confidence and also make right decisions

Jobs/VacanciesAl Jazeera Network To Cut 500 Jobs by Jcan(op): 4:56pm On Mar 27, 2016
The Qatar-based Al Jazeera media network has announced that it is cutting 500 jobs.
It said the job reduction would affect posts worldwide but most of the losses would be in Qatar.
Acting director general Mostefa Souag said the decision was "difficult" but the group was "confident it is the right step".
Al Jazeera, funded by the Qatari government, was founded in 1996 and has more than 70 bureaux worldwide.
A statement from Al Jazeera described the latest move as "a workforce optimisation initiative" in response to "the ongoing transformation of the media landscape".
Mr Souag said: "While our decision is consistent with those being made across the media industry worldwide, it was difficult to make nonetheless.
"However, we are confident it is the right step to ensure the Network's long-term competitiveness and reach."
Al Jazeera America announced earlier this year it would shut its cable news channel despite spending heavily to break into the US market.
CEO Al Anstey said the business model was "simply not sustainable in light of the economic challenges".
It spent millions of dollars hiring top US journalists but struggled to bring viewers to its news programmes.

HealthWhy It's Crucial To Know Family Health History by Jcan(op): 10:09pm On Mar 26, 2016
What is a Family Medical History?

The family medical history paperwork is basically a record of health information concerning the new patient or a family member who is entering a new family practice. It is a complete record from three generations to include parents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandparents, cousins, brothers and sisters as well as children.
The reason it is so important is because families have many health issues in common. Their environment, genes, and lifestyle are typically much alike. Relaying any conditions or disorders may help a family practice determine risk factors for the individual, other members of the family and even future generations. They'll use this paperwork to look for patterns and see if anyone is at risk when it comes to developing particular conditions.
