Car TalkRe: Do Nigerians Trust Online Car Retailers? by Jeffflo(op): 8:25pm On Jan 26, 2015
True. But you know its already taken for granted - this online purchasing thing - overseas. You might not like Jumia et al but you should have seen Konga's (admittedly, they provided the stats) fall yakata sales. Pure rage. We have to embrace change one day in the auto purchase sector one-day. And i plan to be at the vanguard

Ah. Alrighty then, that issue is for another day.

On the flipside, what then is your take on the questions the thread asks?

Imagine, i woke up and immediately typed that to you and addressed it to chillex by mistake. The post is to be modified rn.
Car TalkRe: Do Nigerians Trust Online Car Retailers? by Jeffflo(op):
Oyb, i dont habitually 'stan' for anyone - i have too many headaches from wanting to be wealthy ASAP to take panadol for another - but i fully assure you that if Jarus HIMSELF recommends Inspired Autos, you can very well take it to the bank and beyond. The Jarus i have exchanged emails with and solicited advice from will not put his neck on the line recommending one who will give k leg stories. A man of dignity, integrity and authority in varied matters is one that you address. And its for that reason, i had to beg him to give advice all the way from the politics section

But then again, you are a member of the demographic i'm targeting. Very important people like this. You see how Nigerians quickly accepted online retailing ehn, that is the same way Nigerians should have accepted car sales. What can the website incorporate to its User Interface to assure YOU that everything will do properly and all. I'm thinking big hear. Put no cap on how grandiose it can be.

See, modified cheesy

Lool, where will i find the money to buy the car, with my planning for ICAN and a.b.b.l. during NYSC. No where o. Perhaps i am ambiguous with the content of my post. I am looking at kick starting a web based auto sales startup. I have some concrete ideas as to what i want but i'd like to know what informed users would like in the UI of the website itself. That is it, sir.

[quote author=Jarus post=30128667]I just hope someone is not counting us Yoruba of Kwara and Kogi as part of this.

Kwara Yoruba is for Buhari. [/quote

Its imperative the op doesn't make this generalisation though. Carving a whole zone and appropriating its votes to a comatose candidate? El Oh to the whole El. op, know the battle over the top post in the nation will not be won on SM. Stop with the desperation.

On an unrelated note, Uncle Jarus, i mentioned you and Oga Ajanlekoko in cartalk section for a enterprise question i'd be happy if you two weighed in. Should i forward it to your mailbox or how? Blessed be.

bravolad:
I need no reassurance from an online car retail or advert sites in Nigeria. I doubt any website owner will give you any assurances but will urge you to carry out some verification before paying for any car. Except where the owner of the website doubles as the owner of the cars in question. But what kind of assurance do you intend to get from an online retail car shop. However, I will ensure that the car in question actually exists but would never make any payment or commitment without physically inspecting the vehicle.

There's a lot of fraud going on especially using the online medium, so your best bet is to visit the car stand to verify things yourself. Yes you can identify the car online but you must ensure that you transact with the right owner, inspect the car, verify authenticity etc prior to financial commitment.
Alrighty then, i see where you are standing from.

Nairalanders oh, i need even more input.
Car TalkRe: Do Nigerians Trust Online Car Retailers? by Jeffflo(op): 2:35pm On Jan 25, 2015
Ah. This is standard, and the route any serious purchaser should follow, today, for the perfect deal.

I'm looking at tomorrow's deals, however.

For, If you follow this drill, it means you'd have to rely on a face2face meet to cement your perception of the vehicle. I'm looking at how the user interface would do this for you.

Therefore, as a second bit to my question, if you were to buy your car online, what measures would you love the site take to reassure you of the viability, authenticity a.b.b.l. of said car.
Car TalkDo Nigerians Trust Online Car Retailers? by Jeffflo(op): 10:39am On Jan 25, 2015
For car owners and enthusiasts in the house, what do you feel is the level of trust of the public in online car retailers. I'm in a quandary right here as my big eye is lodged in that zone, but i'd like to know if Nigerians actually BUY cars from carmudi.com, cheki.com and their ilk.

I know this isn't your usual stomping ground, but i'll appreciate your thoughts on the issue, my very own Oga Jarus, and the boss I've been sneakily following and appreciating: Oga Ajanlekoko (i wonder if i got that spelling right lol)

To the best of my knowledge, it varies directly with how quick you are able to pass the three level exam. The exam (otherwise called diet) comes up twice a year-May and November. Consequently, as a graduate of arts/humanities, it will take at least a year and half and at most 10 years.

#standcorrected
Ah. Thank you plenty much.
CareerRe: Ican November 2014 Result by Jeffflo: 6:04pm On Jan 02, 2015
Dereformer:
why not. There are students that passed PE1 in one sitting and passed PE2 in the following diet in one sitting.

So, ICAN can be completed in one year. Myself I finished ican within one and half years. The only paper i repeated in ican was FA2.
Beautiful Beautiful. Thank you plenty much.

You are absolutely right.
I didn't want to include them because they are not available to an average person to pursue.
How so, sir? I am an undergrad student of international studies and i'd seek, ideally, to slot my knowledge into organisations such as these. How do one make this happen?
CareerRe: Ican November 2014 Result by Jeffflo: 4:39pm On Jan 02, 2015

It depends on you. It can take you 1 year, it can also take you as much as 20 years.

But on average, majority finish ican within a period of 5 years.
PE1 to the end in 1 year? Really?

Thank you, ma'am. I'll get to it right this minute.

Even though i know you are probabaly tired of hearing this; thank you for the great job you are doing on this thread. More and more power to your elbow.

All i'm afraid of is this payment solution problem.

I'vetried to sign up for payoneer, but i have neither the national i.d. card, national passport, nor the other one verification method they mentioned there. As a probable solution, i'm looking at using the national i.d. of a friend. How possible is this?

Also, while checking the site just now, i saw that Mastercard could be used as a payment method. Is it possible that we use our bank's Mastercard ATM cards for the same purpose?

Thank you oh cool

Gentlemen, i'm sorry about not posting since. I had/still have issues that ensured that i couldn't post via a laptop but only through my phone, and its incredibly tasking, for me at least, to type the type of lenghty articles that'd do justice to the topic via this particular phone.

So there, i'm sorry for the non-commercial interruption, but i'm back now.

Thank you.

@mikkybrick
Hello sir. i'm in a quandary i'm hoping the astute minds of this thread can help me with. I'm a 300 level student in a public university here in Nigeria with a wish to kick start a career in cloud computing with requisite certifications.

My questions are these:

First, which do you consider to be of more import to prospective employers: EMC proven professional (Cloud) OR its VMware contemporary.

Second, what do you reckon are the prospects of cloud experts in Nigeria's jobosphere. Are there/will there be openings for us excited about the revolution that cloud is?

Third, what are the viable alternatives to a career in cloud. Vulgarity set aside, where is the honey pot located in the telecommunications sector.

Thank you!

ProgrammingRe: A Thread For Nigerian Cloud Engineers - Prospective And Practising by Jeffflo(op): 1:01pm On Aug 16, 2014
EMC Proven Professional: As i said before, EMC is the world leader in Storage. Think servers, data centers. Data allround. It therefore makes sense that they do their bit to engineer the movement to thier waiting servers through their learning services. Certifications include

~> EMC Cloud Infrastructure and Services (EMCCIS)
~> EMC Cloud Architect (EMCCA): IT-as-a-Service Planning and Design
~> EMC Cloud Architect (EMCCA): Virtualized Infrastructure Specialty
~> A seperate course on Cloud essentials aimed at IT
professionals in all specialties (not
entirely vendor-specific).
~> ITaaS general coverage, uses EMC technologies as basis for labs & examples.
~> Virtualized data center and cloud infrastructure planning and design with general coverage; EMC for labs & examples
ProgrammingRe: A Thread For Nigerian Cloud Engineers - Prospective And Practising by Jeffflo(op): 12:37pm On Aug 16, 2014
Cloud computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers to provide elastic, on-demand management, storage and processing of data over the internet rather than a local server to provide easy scalable access to computing resources.

What a prospective employer (EMC comes readily to mind, VMware too) is looking for is people to orchestrate the movement of local data to thier cloud services. (Selfish? Maybe, but then, they are respectively the world leaders in Storage and Virtualisaton. The boat will not sail off without them.) To this end, they have created trainings and certs to ensure proficiency in thier systems. These certifications are called vendor specific and they include:

1. Amazon Web Service: Nigerians proficient in this service are very few - check your Linkedin if you are in doubt - and are in very high demand. This demand is fueled by the fact that AWS remains the clear market leader in public cloud and big data crunching by a clear 87%. Do a little bit of research if that suits you. I'm no up to date as to their certifcation programs.

~> AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Level (home page used to mention
SysOps/Admin and Developer roles)

@spikesC, even in the west, cloud computing is totally a new field, heralded though it was by virtualisation such that what obtained before isn't neccesarily applicable anymore smh.

Its a total paradigm shift that will displace those of us with long standing experience in IT (i have been a virtualistion and SEO specialist for 4 years now) for fresh blood armed with innovation in thier eyes and reams of certificates in their fists.

And i think its a good thing.

IT coys are rapidly going the way of trad companies, requiring years of experience. Its the next generation i want armed with skills comparable to their contemporaries elsewhere.

So yea, experience counts, if it in virtualistion, project management, storage. If not, it will be set aside in favour of dedicated vendor-specific cloud certs. Speaking of which, lets try to define cloud computing.

dhtml18: @Jeffflo, make sure that post carries along people like me that am a medical doctor that writes code as a hobby - due to all this strike and the way health-care is going in Nigeria, I might as well port instead of attempting to lead a dual-life.
*chuckles* I'm a diplomat in training too that picked up python a while back, and has not looked back.
The post will be as laid back as possble. I have enough stress in RL to want to be forming what-not with industry jargon on NL. So there.
ProgrammingRe: A Thread For Nigerian Cloud Engineers - Prospective And Practising by Jeffflo(op): 8:56am On Aug 16, 2014
Embedded Systems and Server administration? Make sense.

I am a fan of certifications myself; the oyinbo people that require this skillset require proof of say you know wetin you dey do.

In my next post, i shall deal with vendor-specific and vendor-neutral trainings that should open the gates for the newbies.
