iamoyindamola:Hahaha No tactics Ke . You dey vex oh. So you are of the opinion that Arteta is not qualified to lead Arsenal moving on. |
So let's talk a bit on tactics. Watching this Arsenal side for most of the season and majorly throughout Arteta's reign so far, it's hard to see where the ideology lies. Are we a pressing team or do we want to contain. A proper press ensures that the motion of all attacking and midfield players are channeled in a synchronized manner towards the opponents ball retention or distribution area. This motion automatically ensures that at the time the opponent makes that pass to the receiving player, all our players aforementioned have already closed down every option that the receiving player has to distribute the ball to. I have watched enough of this current side to conclude that the pressing is poor. Is it a case of personell or a case of the coach ? I'll let us answer those questions As per containing, in my own analogy and how I have played the game, you can contain in three areas of the pitch . The attacking the mid and the defensive third of the pitch where you have all your players in a defensive formation spread across and then shuffling from one end to the other whilst maintaining the defensive shape. One thing no team wants when containing is to be doing it in their own defensive third. This is a recipe for loss as it becomes more difficult as the game goes on to escape without conceeding. Unfortunately this side tends to find themselves trying to contain teams in the defensive third more than often which is no surprise in the reflection is some of our results even against lowly teams . Again I'll leave it to us to debate on if this assessment is true or not and what could be the cause and probable solution . |
Sometimes we can only wonder why Arsenal as a club remains struggling to get back to the apex of footballing heights. Manchester City already won the league and imho are even almost done with their transfer business and will soon focus on pre-season plans in a bid to ensure continuity of success. Even spurs are showing serious signs by tying down conte and wasting no time to approve funds for his transfer plans which they have already begun and finalized some deals. Alas , Arsenal albeit given the circumstances managed to finish fifth are still dilly dallying in transfer plans. We have yet to even nail down any prospect amidst uncertainty of funds at hand or not. This leaves little or less to be desired and one can not be optimistic going into the new season even though as fans our hearts want to believe. Sometimes you wonder if truly the people at the helm want this club to move forward. Serious clubs after a disappointing campaign immediately move to correct their errors and ensure success in the forthcoming season depending on the targets set. But I'm just struggling to see any signs to see that seriousness at arsenal right now. We have not even come down to technical and tactical improvement on the pitch which is still clearly lacking. Phew!!!! Hope it's not another long season all over again. |
Roland17:Hmmm this one vex you small oh. But truth be told the kid never had a fair chance. |
Jodera:Say no more Bro! The analysis is simply on point. Much later I would like to engage in our overall play as a team this season tactics wise |
Sadly after the first phase I just decided to go do something else only to start the second and a goal down which is not surprising given how we have played. Truth be told, the team have done their best but it's a long road for this team. Hopefully they can still get their targets but in all honesty Europa is the best we deserve given out performances. All we needed was a performance but no one showed up when. It mattered most and the coach was not able to inspire anything tactically. Sad but still yet they did well enough to meet the target of a place in Europe |
50d33q:Lol |
Absolutely brilliant first 15 mins of the half . Kudos to the Ladd's for a fast start. This phase of football matches are crucial and the game could be won already . The key here is now to gain balance of control till the very last phase where you see out the result. This is the consistency we want week in week out and commendable that the team is showing this mentality to rise to the occasion with the right attitude Salute to Eddie for taking his chance brilliantly when called upon. We are not there yet but this is the step in the right direction. |
fredoooooo:You sha dey like look for trouble.... ;We go soon pursue you comot here patapata... ![]() |
johnjunior39:True!! It's gonna be a fierce affair which is expected. More like a cup final with everything on the line. |
It's loud on the Man U Thread oh, I expect the team phycologist to be in heads of our players right now given the dropped points from Chelsea. We need to stay consistent and start positively as always. Now is not the time for any sluggish or below par performance from anyone. I just fear that injuries may have it's toll on the boys physically especially key players, but the attitude and mentality must remain. COYG! |
The other day I was watching Man u and was disgusted that a 37 year old Ronaldo was busting his guts making runs offensively and defensively and a certain rashford and Sancho were just jogging all over the pitch. Some of these players do not understand that football comes with discipline of the highest order for you to not only succeed but remain successful. Plus your active years begin to wind down fast if you have not achieved anything soon enough. I just hope and pray that our own young lads do not get carried away and remain focused until they get to the level where they start winning laurels consistently. I also commend the coaching staff for weeding away bad influence from the team so that their growth is not stunted attitude and mentality wise. |
mostob:. Lol I think a management standpoint analogy was made here on Auba's case which I must commend the contributor. Arteta is definitely not the best coach in the world but his standpoint on discipline as regarding Auba was 100 percent on point. We talk about attitude and mentality all the time and this revolves around our everyday lives as well. You cant say because you are the highest earner and in form , that now gives you the right to behave unruly. Pride goes before a fall and all he had to do then was apologize to his team mates and correct his attitude. It's this same attitude that spirals unto the pitch of play and before you know it, the person loses everything. I for one do not condone any form of Indiscipline and rightly so should any coach if he wants to be in charge of his team. I wish Auba the best and cannot forget what he has done for Arsenal in a hurry but sincerely hope he can get it together and focus on football with the right attitude on and off the pitch for his own sake. |
Spy360:Lol na real wahala you wan start but lots of sense here . It was a crucial game and all that was needed was the art of defending to close out which man city did not do. I also felt they were too overconfident when they started making their subs taking out offensive threats which was kind of an insult to a 13 time winner of the champions league. Well pep won't change and I expect this to happen to his team time and again until he too learns to adjust to conditions at times. |
The fast start was crucial and credit to the team for the excellent first phase of the game where they punished a sluggish united which in the end made all the difference. Shout to Eddie for another brilliant display upfront and my hats off to Cedric again. Consistency is what is needed and they are doing that right now. I expect them to now focus on the next game taking the positives of a fast start into perspective. Until the job of securing the champs league spot is done, there is no room for lackadaisical attitude. The funny thing was that there were periods where united dominated especially in the second half but the damage had already been done and tough luck to them on the penalty loss which we capitalised on. |
Shey Ramsdale dey work for MC Oluomo no? Why his he warning odegard like that for a small misplaced pass. ![]() |
Tavarez should be taken off, he has lost concentration |
Spy360:Hahaha. I hear you bros. |
Motm for me was Cedric. The attitude he brought into the game in that second half is what we are asking for. He literally ended any hopes of Chelsea on that right side . He was making runs and tackles . This is not exactly whom you'd call a top player but on the night he came into that match when. Called upon with the right mentality. Same as Martinelli. Great Response but now is the time for consistency. This same attitude and mentality should be taken into the next game. |
50d33q:That part of, "They are not even trying" is what pains the most. How on earth do you go out to play and not even make an effort . These are the kind of performances that makes fans irate. . Those Liverpool players looked tired but the desire to bust a gut was the difference, they are real earners of their salaries. These are the tapes that need to be played on auto replay to our players to know what it means to show desire and bring the right attitude from. Minute one till 90. |
The mentality and attitude from anyone who starts has to be top notch. Unfortunately unless proven wrong, it's hard to see where that comes from right now. |
Men...the start from Liverpool though. I hope our boys are watching what it means to start fast while opponents are still trying to settle plus the title on the line. Also a nice touch from the fans towards Ronaldo. |
mostob:Nailed it. This period when Wenger started saying top four was the priority was where I lost respect for a man that had done so much. He totally took out the philosophy of a winning mentality to aim for the top prize and started focusing on making us just participants. His delving into management rather that focusing on the football was were he lost it and unfortunately the club as a whole went downwards. |
Nothing beats right mentality and attitude on match day. I was watching Real Madrid vs Sevilla the other day. This was a team that just played a gruelling encounter vs Chelsea to qualify for the next phase of the champions league and were losing 2 0 away to Sevilla. The most inspiring part was that they even had a goal rulled out by var but rather than moan or complain about it. They just kept at it and ended up winning that match 3 2. It was same benzema, modric vicinius et all that put their bodies on the line with little or no recovery time to go out there and deliver yet another performance. That win ultimately takes care of Laliga. Our players really do not know what is at stake and I'm not sure even the coaching staff has what it takes to get them over the line. Why should we still be talking about leadership almost 13 years going now? Can the club not really look into their recruiting to see how they can not only buy quality but also the one that possess leadership qualities in lieu of eradicating the problem or leadership completely? Well for now it's just to enjoy the games and hope for the best even though imho getting top four or even deserving it on evidence of our performances lately is not justifiable. |
Jodera:Sometimes you just shake your head for this team. You mean all week, that we had to prepare against Southampton, this is the best we can give? Southampton is not even pressing us like other teams do and yet no urgency . At this rate and if being sincere, we don't deserve champions league football is this is the kind of performance we want to put up. |
Why is Cedric taking setpieces when we have one of the best deadball technicians in Odegarrd on the pitch? Something's in this team amazes me. Look at Ward Prowses Setpieces compared to Cedric's and the difference is huge. Nothing to panic about but intensity has to be better in the second half. Southampton are not pressing but just trying to contain and break on the counter which has allowed us more time and space but these guys need to make it count by forcing more movement and increasing the tempo in the attacking third |
Good start to the first phase but need to cut out mistakes . Still do not understand whether we aim to press or contain ? Cos if it pressing then it's a terrible one where only one person goes while others are lagging way behind |
Spy360:100 percent Talk. |
Jodera:Astute! But this one spy is blaming you for Laca matter , e get as e be oh... |
I'm struggling to understand the instructions given to Laca. If he is to play the CF role, then he should be doing more shuttles in and around the 18yard rather than coming way outside the yard into midfield to get into play. Unless it's what the manager has instructed , then it's not helping his game at all. I remember when Laca was in Lyon and was playing the CF role with aplumb but it seems either he is asked to play it differently or he lacks the fitness levels to do those runs in and around. A CF must have pure instinct and technique before anything else, fitness and understanding of the role may alter performance but ultimately the instinct and technique will prevail if consistent. I can understand why we wanted that guy that went to Juve. The guy is something else with technique and instinct. Well it all goes back to the board and the decision to let Auba go without getting a decent backup. It's a shame really and unless Laca just finds form out of nowhere then it's a long road |
50d33q:Well yes the first Leg was outright negative and not worth the 20 mill Diego is being paid but it was the response in the second leg of the tie I praised. The second leg especially in the second half was absolutely great. A bit nervous in the first half but they managed to absord the early pressure and sustained albeit without the balance of play in thier favour. Not saying ATM in the next best thing but just pointing out the response in lieu of what was at stake. As concerns Arsenal, players need to understand what is at stake here and respond accordingly. Don't we have academy players at Saka's level that we can draft in for this crucial run towards the end of the league? |
. You dey vex oh. So you are of the opinion that Arteta is not qualified to lead Arsenal moving on.
