Mercy is defined as d grace extended to someone that supposed to be punished, while Love connotes the unconditional affectionate feelings devoid of partiality....forgiveness really expounded on these Christian virtues that is ..Mercy+Love=Forgiveness
Using Joseph and his brethren as a case study, we can really see these virtues materialize....
Firstly, Joseph was in a position to punished his brethren for there wrong doings to him, which would have been justifiable humanly speaking, (remembering the adage of 'a tooth for a tooth, an eye for an eye') but instead of that he exemplified a high level of christ-like virtue by extending both mercy and love to them. (Gen 43:1-34)
Secondly, have you ever wondered despite all what David suffered and went through, he refrained from harming Saul despite having the opportunities severally and even after Saul demise, he still said he wanted to show mercy to the house of Saul which resulted in bringing Mephiboseth' Saul's crippled son to David royal city and even dining and whining at his royal table?...(2Samuel 9:1-13)
Thirdly, in Mattew 18:23-35, Jesus expounded on the need of forgiveness as the only reason God will forgives us, God forgives us so that we can also forgives ourselves, without we forgiving our brethren, we had invariably 'incapacitated' divine forgiveness knowing fully well that without God's forgiveness, we are doomed eternally ..........
Fourthly, taking a holistic view and meditating on the Lord's prayer, Jesus pointed out the utmost need for Christian forgiveness, take a minute to ruminate this, why didn't He talked about Love, Peace, Mercy, Joy..etc..but He mentioned forgiveness as d only pancrea for divine forgiveness!!!!!..
Conclusively, I am enjoining us all to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, if we forgives, we experience peace, joy, clear mindset, enjoy better relationship and to cap it up, we are assured of our eternal home.........husband to wife, learn forgiveness, colleagues at work, family settings,......LEARN FORGIVENESS......
