Gloriagee:Nooooh, no longer acceptable. Must be at the embassy or a notary public in the US |
Gloriagee:My hubby traveled with me but left after baby came ( before passport appointment). We got a notary public in the US to notarize and was accepted without any problems at the passport agency in Houston. |

Nobody asked for any fit to fly from Lagos to France, to Houston, to st. Louis. Although I had it prepared by my doctor. I didn't get checked at Port Health, so no port health certificate and no airline asked for it. Some airlines are quite liberal like air France, KLM and Lufthansa. They don't have restrictions on pregnant women flying. They may, however, require a fit to fly after 36 weeks, if they even remember to ask. But you are free to fly without it anytime before 36 weeks. The regulations are on their websites. mercifull: |
Hello NL family. I am back once again to give back even though I am not very active on the group. But the group has been very helpful to me since I started reading in January. I read virtually all the previous parts (1-5) and silently followed part 6. I dropped my visa renewal interview here in March. So, to my POE story. I flew Airfrance at 36 weeks plus to Houston 2 days ago with DH. Had 3 hours transit at Paris.... Excellent flight and good food especially the 'steaming hot Jollof rice' with chicken. Lol. Arrived Houston about 2pm. No queue at immigration. Met a white Officer. DH and I :Good afternoon Officer :Good afternoon, passports please (hand him our current passports) Officer : Purpose of visit? DH and I : Medical for childbirth. We are expecting a baby. Officer : (scans our passport) have you been to the US before? DH : yes, this is my 3rd time and my wife's 4th time in the US. Officer : where are you having the baby? DH: St. Louis, MO. We leave for St. Louis tomorrow Officer : How much do you have for the visit? DH: 4,052 dollars in cash and about $13,500 in cards. (NB : we already paid doctor and hospital before our visa interview but didn't bother stating it at the interview and at the POE) Officer : why St. Louis? Me: That's where we had our last baby 3 years ago. We are using the same doctor and hospital cos we had a good experience with them the last time. Officer : stamps us in for 6months each and says we can proceed to baggage claim. (no secondary) Immigration lasted just about one minute or less. We collected our luggage and headed for exit. Every one crossed customs/agric officers without being asked any questions but as we passed, one over Sabi officer (Asian or Mexican self) sighted my big stomach and the car seat on top of our luggage (cos we put it in a transparent nylon bag) and immediately stopped us and called us to the side. Officer : can I see your passports? (hand over to him) Officer : I can see you are here for childbirth. DH and I : yes Officer : Did you go to the secondary room upstairs? DH and I : nope Officer : how come? Didn't you tell the immigration officer that you are here for childbirth DH and I : we did Officer : calls the other officer standing with him (a black older officer this time) Black Officer : Did the immigration officer see your documents eg: doctor's correspondence, appointment, any evidence of payment and proof of financial status? DH and I : nope, he didn't ask for the documents , only asked where we were going to deliver and why and how much we had for it. But we have all the documents with us. Black officer : can I see them (we hand him a file containing all the burden of proof: doctors correspondence, doctors acceptance letter, doctors appointment, hospital correspondence, hospital and doctors receipts of payment, budget plan and statement of account and my maternity leave letter) He flips through them quickly and hands back to us. Black officer: what do you do in your country DH: I am a ****, my wife is a **** (we are both doctors) Black officer(now smiling with us) : Can I ask a question? DH and I : Go ahead (thinking he wanted to ask a medical question to ascertain if we are truly doctors) Black officer : how come you have the doctors and hospitals in Nigeria, yet all of you want to come here to have your babies? Before we could even answer, he cuts us in..... Black officer : let me tell you what I think. I think you all just want the citizenship by birth for the baby (still smiling) DH and I : Definitely!!! That's the number one reason. It gives the baby prospects of a better life in future and better academic and career opportunities in life. (smiling back) Black officer : (now laughing and nodding in agreement) The baby may also fetch you guys a green card and citizenship later in the future. DH and I : Exactly, thats right. Black officer : (still smiling from ear to ear) you know what? I truly appreciate your truthfulness... Welcome to America and have a safe delivery. DH and I : Thanks a lot Meanwhile, they forgot to ask for the food items we had and didn't even ask for the declaration form. Although we didn't take any contraband foodstuff like chicken noodles, chicken Maggie, Yam, fresh vegetables or meat. So, no agric. Thanks once again NL family. I hope this gives hope and encouragement to others here. Please let's continue to speak the truth at all times. It's not a crime to birth in the US. Jus stick to the rules and you'll be fine. |
Yes, you can and infact should renew before the interview. I scheduled an appointment and sent in application in February with my old passport which had one year before expiration (Feb 2019). But since my arrival date in the US is a little less than 6 months from my passport expiration, I decided to renew passport in March. Didn't want to take chances. Submitted both old and new passport to VO during my interview in April. The Visa was issued on the new passport. The old passport was given back to us at the interview. The new passport usually has both the old number and the new number. So, it's not a problem for them. Kween2014: |
Hello brainconceptz. Good work. Would like to know if you have a branch office in the southeast or if you can handle projects in the southeast (Enugu precisely) all the way from Lagos. Thanks |
Good evening everyone. I have been a silent reader for about 2 months. DH and I went for our interview today but before I proceed let me give a brief history. DH and I applied for a B1/2 visa in July 2014. Had d interview in September 2014. Was asked if I was pregnant and said NO ( I wasn't). Was asked if I intended to receive medical care over there and said NO. Visa granted, traveled in October for the conference but returned last week of October with a missed period. DH and I felt we could use dsame visa for childbirth. Honestly had no clue about medical visa(thought B1/B2 covered all). Also had no idea about this forum or about a change of intent letter. So, started our search for Dr, hospital, got estimates and paid. FF to POE in May 2015, CBS asked why I was in the US and I innocently declared Childbirth (thought I was good to go) was asked why I lied at interview about d pregnancy (thats when I knew there was trouble) .... But told the CBP that I didn't lie cos I wasn't preggy at the time of interview. Asked if I notified d embassy and said NO cos I had no idea that I was to notify. Asked for my estimates, evidence of payment and Dr's appointment and statement which I showed and was stamped in for 6months (was lucky to have had the documents). Had LO mid June 2015. And left after another one month. Traveled again in Aug 2016 for family vacation with DH and 2 older kids and LO (who was 1 at the time). So visa got expired over a year ago and I am preparing for second missionary journey. That's when I came across this forum and have been reading like I am preparing for my final exams. So, got all my documents ready and nicely arranged (thanks to NL) including zero balances, itemized statements and receipts of payment etc, then scheduled my face interview.(applied for medical visa this time) FF to today, 7am interview at Lagos. VO: Good morning We: Good morning VO: Purpose of travel? DH: Medical. DW and I are expecting our 4th baby and would like to have the baby in the US for a second time. VO: Did you say second time? We: Yes VO: So, you have had a baby previously in the US? We: Yes, our third baby VO: when was the date of birth? DH: 2016 Me: No,... June 2015 VO: In your last interview in 2014, you were asked if you were going to seek medical care in the US and you said NO, is that right? We: Yes, but at that time we weren't seeking medical treatment and we were not pregnant. (told the truth like I did at the POE) VO: Okay..... Types oh..... VO: what was your budget at the last childbirth DH: $7k for d delivery proper but over $11k total (excluding accommodation which was free) VO: what's the budget for this delivery? Me: a little above $15k including accommodation, would you like to see our budget sheet? VO: No, if I need documents, I will let you know VO: what do you do? DH: (Bleep) with special interest in (bleep) DW: (Bleep)... at (bleep) VO: Okay, your visa has been approved..... Bla bla bla Join me in thanking God for his mercies and for allowing the VO see through my truthfulness, innocence and openness. It really does pay to be truthful and open. All glory to God and thanks to you all. Not even one document sighted or asked for. |
