Four teams remain in the Europa League. One game stands between each of them and a place in the final. After two gruelling first-legs, both ties remain wide open. Thursday's second-leg matches promise to be full of drama as there is everything to play for. Villarreal manager Marcelino Garcia Toral is preparing his side "to suffer" against Liverpoolat Anfield. His side are only ninety minutes from their first ever European final. Adrian Lopez's injury time winner in their 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Estadio El Madrigal last week has given The Yellow Submarines the advantage. Since then, the Spanish side have secured qualification for next seasons Champions League by beating Valencia 2-0 and finishing fourth in La Liga. Villarreal are now favourites with the bookies to progress to the final. Liverpool have had contrasting fortunes to the Spaniards. A 3-1 defeat to Swansea at the weekend saw them slump to eighth in the Premier League. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is unperturbed, knowing he made eight changes against the Welsh outfit, fielding several youngsters. Klopp promises his team will "be better" against Villarreal.... <<< continue reading >>> www.9jasportbet..com |
The Manchester United legend was harsh in his assessment of the performance of Manuel Pellegrini's side, stating they lacked the stomach for a fight Roy Keane says Manchester City did not believe in victory even before they faced Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, accusing them of lacking the hunger necessary to reach the final. Manuel Pellegrini's men exited the competition on Wednesday after a 1-0 loss at the Bernabeu without registering a single shot on target, a week after holding the Spaniards to a 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg. Their impotence led Keane to question whether City even believed in defeating los Blancos, claiming they were simply... <<< www.9jasportbet..com |

Cristiano Ronaldo is the superman of modern football, the perfect prototype if you were to build a superstar in a lab. Not only does he have almost unrivalled technique, he is, at 6ft 1in, dominant in the air and at 12.5 stone of pure muscle a powerful and strong customer; quite simply, he has everything. The Portuguese former Ballon d'Or winner was missing at the Etihad last weekend and it showed, with Real Madrid looking largely toothless against a Manchester City side that perhaps should have tried to take more advantage of Zinedine Zidane's weakened team rather than settling for a draw. .... <<< read more >>> www.9jasportbet..com

The Argentine head coach insists payback for their 2014 defeat would be no factor if the Rojiblancos were drawn against their fierce city rivals in the tournament showdown .. Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone would be unwilling to use revenge as motivation if his side face Real Madrid in the Champions League final. Simeone's side booked their place in the decider in Milan on May 28 despite a 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in their second leg on Tuesday. Atletico face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final, with their city rivals having beaten them 4-1 in the 2014 decider... Despite that, Simeone said he would happily face Zinedine Zidane's men, who are locked at 0-0 ahead of their second leg with City on Wednesday. "I am happy," he said of potentially facing Madrid. "We want something else now but I don't believe in revenge. There are new chances in the life, not revenge. And this is another chance." Antoine Griezmann's second-half goal proved decisive for Atletico, who progressed courtesy of the away goals rule as they reached a second final in three years. The Catalan coach may be hyper-successful on the domestic front but his legacy in continental competition does not measure up since arriving in Bavaria... THREE SEMI-FINAL ELIMINATIONS IN THREE YEARS - PEP'S FAILED BAYERN WHERE IT MATTERS MOST 22:50UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUESHARE 8 Getty Images The Catalan coach may be hyper-successful on the domestic front but his legacy in continental competition does not measure up since arriving in Bavaria. Manchester City are bringing in Pep Guardiola to move the club forward but they've gone just as far in the Champions League this year with plain old Manuel Pellegrini in charge and might yet go further. What has been proven now three times in a row is that Guardiola's football is no longer winning football at the sharp end of continental competition. That honour goes to Diego Simeone and his fearless Atletico Madrid. His is the team who beat treble-winning Barcelona and who have now accounted for Bayern. And how? By keeping it tight and hustling for a goal on the break. There's your philosophy. Guardiola's teams have been defeated in the same way in each of his three consecutive semi-final failures at Bayern Munich. No away goal at Santiago Bernabeu. No away goal at Camp Nou. No away goal at Vicente Calderon. All the return legs featured away goals given away cheaply to the Spanish sides, striking like daggers through the heart at the Allianz Arena. Every year, over and over and over again. Knockout football is capricious, no mistaking that. However, three similar semi-final eliminations put together in a row look less like one-offs and more like a pattern. <<< read more >>> www.9jasportbet..com

Jurgen Klopp's in-game management is under the microscope as Villarreal scored a late winner against the Reds, leaving them needing another massive continental night at Anfield Liverpool were one minute away from recording a solid European performance on opposition turf. Just one moment of concentration away. Only one better decision away. Instead, on 92 minutes, Adrian Lopez tapped in Denis Suarez's cross to score the solitary goal in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final as the Villarreal supporters swirled their yellow-and-blue scarves incessantly. In a game of fine margins, those closing moments at the death undid the toil of Jurgen Klopp’s side at El Madrigal and placed his in-game management under the microscope. The decisions - in particular keeping Daniel Sturridge on the bench - seemed designed to ensure Liverpool didn’t lose a fixture they looked like they could edge with a little extra firepower. The England international, who has scored four goals in his last five games and has looked exceedingly sharper, would’ve been aggrieved not to have started the match and absolutely livid that he was a spectator for its entirety. Fellow striker Christian Benteke was only called upon on 90 minutes as the Reds seemed content with a goalless draw. They didn’t get that and a side that has beaten Real Madrid, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Bayer Leverkusen at El Madrigal as well as held Barcelona, have another big home victory. <<< read more >>> www.9jasportbet..com

The hosts surrendered a lead late in the game to draw 2-2 with Sevilla on Thursday, but the coach is sure they can recover in the second-leg of the Europa League semi-final tie Mircea Lucescu remains optimistic about Shakhtar Donetsk's chances of reaching the Europa League final at the expense of Sevilla after Thursday's 2-2 draw in Lviv. Marlos and Taras Stepanenko found the net to cancel out Vitolo's opener, but Kevin Gameiro converted a penalty late in the second half to give two-time defending champions Sevilla the edge ahead of next week's return leg. Nevertheless, Lucescu believes Shakhtar still have every chance of making it to the final in Basel. "I think the final score reflects the game," Lucescu said at a news conference. "We created a lot of chances in the first half and could have scored four goals rather than just the two we got. "But in the closing stages of the match we tired a bit and made a lot of mistakes in defence. <<< read more >>> www.9jasportbet.blospot.com |

France's RMC radio reported that Sakho had failed a dope test following the use of a fat-burning drug as an aid to weight loss. Liverpool sidelined France international defender Mamadou Sakho on Saturday pending the result of a doping investigation that could rule him out of the European Championship in June. France's RMC radio reported that Sakho had failed a dope test following the use of a fat-burning drug as an aid to weight loss. Liverpool, playing relegation-threatened Newcastle United in thePremier League at Anfield later on Saturday, did not provide details of the substance but said they had received a formal communication from UEFA on Friday. A club statement said that UEFA was "investigating a possible anti-doping rule violation by Mamadou Sakho" and the player would respond to European soccer's ruling body. "The player is currently not subject to any playing suspension," Liverpool added. <<< continue reading >>> www.9jasportbet..com

Manuel Pellegrini has a confession to make. When he greeted the Champions League draw with relief and said Real Madrid were the team he wanted to play, it was not because he still holds a grudge against his former employers, nor because he was glad to have escaped a direct confrontation with Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich. Why Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale is more settled in Spain than ever Sid Lowe Read more That may still happen, of course, should neither of the two Madrid teams in the last four make it to the final but Pellegrini would be happy to accept that challenge. “I did not want Bayern Munich or Atlético Madrid at the semi-final stage but, if the draw had given us Atlético, I would have said I didn’t want to play against Bayern or Real Madrid,” he explains. “The truth is that when you reach the last four you must have confidence and trust in your own ability. You can be lucky with your opponents in earlier rounds but in the semi-final it doesn’t really matter which team you get. You know it is going to be very difficult.” The Manchester City manager makes no secret of his belief that Barcelona were the most dangerous team in the competition and basically any semi-final opponent was going to be acceptable once they were eliminated. Both sides had penalty appeals for handball denied and Patrick van Aanholt struck Arsenal's post with a free-kick. Sunderland keeper Vito Mannone had to be sharp to keep out Mesut Ozil's free-kick and Alex Iwobi's follow-up. Arsenal's Jack Wilshere came on for a first game in 10 months, but the visitors relied on numerous Petr Cech saves to preserve a point. The failure to win could prove costly for Arsenal, who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot, but lie just five points above fifth-placed Manchester United, having played a game more. And Leicester's 4-0 win over Swansea later on Sunday ensured the Gunners' faint title hopes were ended once and for all. Sunderland showing survival spirit Giroud touches Olivier Giroud had 11 touches in the Sunderland penalty area, but not a single shot on target Sunderland may only have lifted themselves above Norwich City on goal difference, but they end their four-game stretch in the bottom three and Sam Allardyce's side have now lost just one of their last seven league games. This was their fifth draw in that sequence though, and with a more cut-throat mentality in the final third - or fewer moments of brilliance from Cech - they would have secured a victory. The Wearsiders wanted a penalty in the first half when the ball struck centre-half Per Mertesacker's arm at point-blank range, but referee Mike Dean deemed the contact accidental. Similarly, Dean ruled in Sunderland's favour as DeAndre Yedlin blocked with an arm at the other end. It was in the second half that the home side showed they may have the guile to survive the drop, with Cech producing a double save from Jermain Defoe and Yann M'Vila, before Defoe went agonisingly close with a lobbed effort that dropped the wrong side of the post. Gunners misfire It was perhaps an opportunity missed against an Arsenal side whose performance was sluggish from start to finish. A 19th-consecutive season in the Champions League is by no means confirmed and after three draws in four games, and Arsene Wenger's men are seemingly opening the door for FA Cup finalists United to make a late move into the top four. They forced the best saves from Mannone in the first half but were devoid of ideas after the break, when they could only muster two shots on target and none from their striker Olivier Giroud, who is now goalless in 17 Premier League games. The introduction of England trio Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Wilshere failed to spark any invention for the visitors. Wilshere returns to the fray Jump media playerMedia player helpOut of media player. Press enter to return or tab to continue. Sunderland 0-0 Arsenal: We have to fight for Champions League - Wenger Wilshere's return will have been the greatest positive for Arsenal, 330 days since his last appearance for the club, when he played the final 13 minutes of the FA Cup final win over Aston Villa last year. He went on to feature twice for England in the summer but suffered a hairline fracture in his left leg in August and then needed an operation in September to aid his recovery. His career has been plagued with ankle problems and since 2013 he has been ruled out by 21 different injuries. The 24-year-old has less than three weeks and just three more games to prove to England boss Roy Hodgson that he is fit and sharp enough to be considered for Euro 2016 in France, with the squad to be announced on 12 May. "Of course I want to go and be involved. I feel I am ready to push for that place," Wilshere told BBC Sport. Man of the match - Lamine Kone Olivier Giroud and Lamine Kone Kone (right) and his centre-back partner Younes Kaboul were superb. But Kone edges it for his commanding 15 clearances - 12 more than any team-mate - and seven out of nine aerial duels won What they said Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce: "In the second half, we did enough to maybe pinch the game 1-0. "Arsenal had chances as well but I thought we coped extremely well with their possession. "I thought we definitely should have had a penalty. "Mertesacker turned his back on the ball with his arms in the air and stopped what looked like a certain goal. "With DeAndre it hit his leg and then his arm, and I think it's difficult to get your arm out of the way in that situation. <<< continue reading >>> www.9jasportbet..com

The Foxes were without suspended top scorer Jamie Vardy and had watched Spurs start to apply pressure at the top of the table. But Claudio Ranieri's side responded emphatically by equalling their best Premier League win and scoring four for the first time since Sunderland were beaten 4-2 on the opening day. Riyad Mahrez took advantage of Ashley Williams' poor clearance to score with a composed finish before Leonardo Ulloa stepped into the space left by Vardy to ensure this was a win achieved in style and comfort. Ulloa headed in Danny Drinkwater's free-kick before the break, then scrambled in the third goal from a loose ball on the hour to give Leicester the advantage their superiority deserved. Substitute Marc Albrighton added a fourth to leave Leicester needing a maximum of five more points to win the title for the first time in their history. They could even clinch it with victory at Manchester United next weekend if Spurs slip at home to West Bromwich Albion on Monday night. <<< read more >>> www.9jasportbet..com

Martial ensured Louis van Gaal's side will face either Crystal Palace or Watford with a composed finish in the dying seconds of an enthralling semi-final. Marouane Fellaini gave United a deserved first-half lead from close range - but they were then indebted to goalkeeper David de Gea as he brilliantly saved Romelu Lukaku's 57th-minute penalty. Everton rallied after a passive first 45 minutes that saw them jeered off at half-time and they drew level with 15 minutes left when Chris Smalling deflected Gerard Deulofeu's cross into his own net. As the game looked destined for extra-time, Ander Herrera's poked pass sent Martial clear and the striker showed great composure to drill a low finish past Everton keeper Joel Robles. Leicester City face a crucial Premier League encounter with Swansea City on Sunday without top scorer Jamie Vardy, who is currently serving a one-match ban for his sending-off last time out against West Ham. The Foxes are waiting to see if that ban will be extended, as Vardy has accepted an FA charge of improper conduct for his behaviour after his dismissal against the Hammers. However whatever happens with that charge, the 29-year-old will miss the Swansea game and the Foxes will have to adapt their style to win the game, as much of their attacking threat is based on getting Vardy in around of the back of defenders. The style has proved highly successful and is one of the reasons that Claudio Ranieri’s team are leading the English top-flight table by five points. The Foxes must now find an alternative to the style, as Vardy’s likely replacement Leonardo Ulloa is...... <<< read more>>> www.9jasportbet..com

2016 could prove to be a tumultuous year for Arsenal. From a few short weeks ago when the players and manager Arsene Wenger refused to rule out the possibility of the title, they are now in a situation in which the top four finish that has so been their forte in recent years is in no way secure. Whether falling out of the Champions League places would have any effect on the future of Wenger is hugely debatable. Chances are a board that has stuck with him through thick, and slightly less thick, will do just the same when it approaches thin. Even with belief in the manager fading rapidly after just five wins from 14 league games since the turn of year, Wenger is almost certainly going to be the man in charge next season. He'll obviously have a lot of work to do, which is why finishing in the top four is so important. Fans might ask why a tournament in which Arsenal have shown little sign of being able to win is so crucial. They can point to a record of six successive eliminations at the Round of 16 stage and, rightly enough, suggest that it's not a competition that gets the juices flowing. It's no longer the cash cow it once was. The new television deals in the Premier League have levelled the playing field to a large extent. Previously Champions League revenue set those teams apart from the rest, but that's no longer the case. The influx of cash from TV, with record domestic and international deals, have given England's top flight clubs enormous financial firepower, and the effect of that is an equalisation in talent. Perhaps this season is an outlier with Leicester and Spurs battling for the title while the established contenders languish below, but there's no question that in general clubs can afford to pay higher transfer fees and wages, thus attracting a higher calibre of player. So, the Champions League money is not as important as it once was, but in terms of what ... <<<<continue reading >>>>> 9jasportbet..com

Having lost their last three matches in La Liga and got knocked out of the Champions League, Barcelona’s season is in danger of completely falling apart. Goal runs down the 10 reasons why it has all come unstuck so quickly… 1. XAVI & PEDRO LEAVE WITH TRANSFER BAN ONGOING | Xavi departed after winning the treble and Pedro chose to join Chelsea in August, leaving Barca short of quality options on the bench and unable to replace them straight away, still banned from fielding new players in 2015. 2. ARDA & ALEIX STRUGGLE TO ADAPT | Barcelona did sign Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal last summer and the two finally made their debuts when the transfer ban came to an end in January. However, they missed a total of 30 games and have been unable to adapt to the team since finally making their bows at the beginning of the year 3. NO NOLITO, NO COVER FOR MSN | With Pedro gone and nobody to replace him, Barca set their sights on Nolito in the winter window but were unable to find the funds to sign the Spain striker. That has seen a large burden placed on the shoulders of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, with the sheer volume of games taking their toll on Barca's fantastic forward line. 4. PROBLEMS IN DEFENCE | So secure en route to the treble in 2014-15, Barcelona's back-line has had plenty of issues in the current campaign. They conceded only 37 goals last season, but have already shipped 51 this term (including four each against Athletic Bilbao, Celta Vigo and Sevilla earlier in the season). And although there has since been improvement, the goals of MSN have papered over the cracks for much of the campaign. Until now, that is... 5. RAFINHA'S INJURY read more at www.9jasportbet..com |
