We do not come across people, especially ladies who are willing to let the public into their private lives without being prodded. Especially, where such people have endured marital turbulence, heartaches and disappointments. Mayowa Duntoye was free to discuss about issues most people would rather keep in the closet. A single mother who has to raise her daughter of 14 years can write a book.

Mayowa Duntoye was born in Lagos to a family of four. She is the eldest with three younger brothers. Her parents are from Oro town in Kwara State, North Central Nigeria. She speaks with Oludare Sorunke, Executive Editor, BLACKWASH Media on her troubled marriage, single parenting and her debut biopic movie, Mayowa.



Why did you choose acting as a career?

I choose acting because I have passion for it and it had been my dream since I was young. I grew up watching theatre performances by the late Hubert Ogunde, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Adeyemi Afolayan (Ade Love) and several others. These people made imprints into what we are now enjoying in Nollywood. They brought depth, character and meaning to the industry.

I observed that the main function of the movie industry is to make people laugh, feel good about themselves, tell our stories and educate us about the importance of community.

“The Federal Government announces plans to ban inter-state travel and possibly close down all motor parks as part of measures to curtail the spread of the #Coronavirus,” presidential aide Bashir Ahmad said in a tweet quoting information minister, Lai Mohammed.

“In view of this, we are considering tougher measures to enforce compliance, stop the exportation of the disease to states that do not have it and minimize spread.”

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ayuba Wabba have stressed need for the Federal Government to improve on the nation’s electoral process to foster genuine development.

Fayemi and Wabba shared similar views on the electoral process when they spoke at a memorial colloquium held in honour of late Bjorn Beckman on Thursday in Abuja.

He was a former teacher at the Ahmadu Bello University who taught from 1978 to 1987 and a unionist.

“That what we have here is not a democracy is not untrue but we are in the process. What we have is democratisation. Our democracy is growing and we will reach a point of true direction of nation’s democracy project,” Fayemi said.

Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Olivier Giroud as they continue negotiations with Arsenal over a deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to Sky in Germany.

Arsene Wenger praised Alexis Sanchez's attitude when substituted on against Chelsea, and says he wants the Chilean to stay at Arsenal.
