OP I know exactly how you feel , i was in your shoes few years ago. if you know what is good for you. start with any job for now.

my first job didn't pay much but I learnt a lot from it ( on the job training) I trained myself . With the experience from my first job i got my second job , same thing i did with the first, upgrade your cv with professional qualifications or go for your masters. i did and with that i got my present job.

Don't sit at home and wait for it to come to you before you are ready... Be prepared!!!

I didn't do it alone oooo Oluwa was also involved!!!

Thanks

You know what I detest about a lot of Nigerians? Many of you are just too judgemental. Many of you lack compassion and empathy. It must be the hostile Nigerian environment. First of all, is the OP going to attend skill acquisition for free? Does it not cost money to learn 'hand work'? Even the girl that you know makes chin-chin and supplies to primary and secondary schools, she must have had someone that spoke to the headmistress/headmaster and/or principal on her behalf to allow her supply chin-chin to the students and staff. Why do you talk as if you don't know how things work in Nigeria? Okay, even if the OP wants to start selling meat pie, chin-chin and the likes, it takes money to learn to how to make these things. Are you going to sponsor her?

When it comes to teaching, did the OP tell you she found a teaching job and refused it? Even teaching jobs are becoming hard to find. Many of you are talking about starting a business. Do they teach entrepreneurial skills in Nigerian secondary schools and universities? Do you know how quickly a business will fail if the business owner has no idea what he or she is doing? Do you think everyone is passionate about running their own business?

Funnily enough, the children of Nigeria's ruling elite (politicians) are landing white collar jobs in CBN and customs and IRS while children of the poor and middle class are told after years of studying their eyes out to go and farm so that females will be raped on their farms by marauding Fulani herdsmen. After years of studying, you are telling people to go farm like you are going to provide the plot of land used for farming.

Nigeria's business environment is not even favorable. Ask foreign investors, many who are leaving Nigeria for other countries. A country like Nigeria that cannot even provide stable electricity, small business loans with low interest rates and a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. Abeg!

This is exactly what people do not understand. I have actually moved about. I didnt just sit down at home. I even applied for teaching jobs but to no avail.
I also have ideas of businesses i want to start but getting capital is the problem. People can give advice when they are not in ones' shoes.

Would have been nice if you told us what you studied and other qualifications you've garnered ....who knows help might just pop in instead of wallowing in self-pity undecided

I studied English and Literary Studies. Thanks for the advice

Jobs/Vacancies / Joblessnaijagirl- How To Be Unemployed And Happy by jholam(f): 5:49pm On Jul 31, 2016
Hello there my unhappy jobless peeps. How's the day going? Good i guess. Well now if you day is going fantastically fine and you are having a jolly good ride with life right now, then you should'nt be here. Sorry, but you got to go. Okay bye.
If you are unemployed, depressed and angry at the world for your situation, then here are a few things to keep you going and make you a little bit happy with your life.
I do some of these, so i'm talking from experience.

Go out- Do'nt just sit down in your house and complain that there is no work for you to do. Go out to places, meet new people, drop your cvs.
If you are in a state that has no companies or firms or whatever, my dear please relocate to somewhere else that has more opportunities for you to explore.

READ - Pick up a book and just read. Go to the library or download and read good books . Imagine yourself as your favorite hero and dream away to the magic land of fantasies. Sometimes one just have to get away from all the wahala in this country and since you obviously do not have the money to travel out physically, please imagine it. Nobody will kill you for that and it is also free.

LEARN NEW THINGS: There are so many free courses online that you can indulge in. That time you use in facebooking and twittering, would do you much good if you learn something worthwhile.

START A SMALL BUSINESS-Okay i know times are hard and there is no money and some annoying people that do not know our predicament often say this. But even if its pure water, start selling. Some of you might not agree with me on starting a small business that will give you peanuts, but atleast you will have money for recharge card instaed of begging people.

BLOG- Start a blog on how to be unemployed(like me). Okay maybe not that. Then sometging else that catches your interest. Who knows what tomorrow holds for you(wink).

WATCH TV- Get a good movie or preferably a long series and just watch until your head aches and watch some more.

VOLUNTEER- If you can't volunteer in an organisation because of one flimsy reason or the other, there is nothing stoping you from voluntering at home. Dont be a nuisance to your family members. Its nobodys fault that you dont have a job.
Watch more tv( dont need more explaining or does it?

SLEEP- just relax yourself and sleep. Body no be fire wood. Sleep all day and when you wake up in the night, go back to sleep.

KEEP A JOURNAL- Finally, Just a journal to rant about how your life sucks.

So after graduating from the university about a year ago i have'nt got a job. I know most of you will say (just one year and you are complaining.) Well it does'nt matter.

All that matters is that one is without a job and it is extremely annoying and life is boring.
You see adverts everywhere of job openings and you wonder if there are just for show or if people are really getting these jobs.
Once or twice you see a testimony on nairaland that someone just got a job and you begin to pray for your own.
You wait and wait for a miracle because now your degree does not matter again. If you don't have somebody somewhere, 'na only miracle you go hope on.

After going through school, burning mid night candles, going for lectures, doing stupid assignments that lecturers never read and struggling to see that your name is on flimsy attendance cheat for ten marks, what do you get?
Answer - A long stay in your fathers house, waiting for when somebody will visit and dash you money. Because your parents do not have your time again.
Most times, you might even here comments like" abeg do go marry" or better still "you no get boyfriend?".
Sometimes you begin to wonder what went wrong but in the end, what can one do but hope for a miracle.

Life is hard o. Especially if you are unemployed and a girl in naija.

Fashion / Why Do Women Wear Make-up by jholam(f): 4:02pm On Jun 07, 2016
Well the other day, I was asked and in order to defend myself from what I honestly don't know, I began ranting of how I have these gigantic pimples on my face and how the spots and blemishes are too much so, I needed to cover them up and blah blah blah.

I just needed to give a legit reply to the question but deep down, I knew that those weren't the only reasons, and that I wear make up because I wanted to feel attractive and beautiful as a woman. But in order not to look vain and insecure I gave the obvious answer.
Now that's just my reason. And this question made me think about the reason why women like me wear make up. So, I decided to ask my close female friends and family members.

The first person I asked, was my cousin who I tell you sincerely, has no business putting a single thing on her face, except from maybe white powder. And her reply was that it makes her look 'fine and clean.'Her exact words, no joke.

In my mind, I was looking for the ugly and dirty face that needs beautification and cleansing which unfortunately I couldn't find but I kind of got what she meant though.
The second person I asked, gave a reply close to mine that it was because of the acne on her face she wears make up which ironically according to her, adds more acne to her face.

Well, that is just women wahala for you.
Others gave answers like: it makes them more beautiful and gives them confidence, while for some, it's fun trying on new tricks from YouTube and just playing with brushes and colours.

Well, I concluded, that whatever the reason women were make up, the bottom line is that they do and majority like doing it. Maybe it's an innate desire to look beautiful I can't tell, but whatever the case may be, I think that when we put on make up, moderation is key.

We should not have to change our entire face under foundation all in the name of wearing make-up. Too much make up is never beautiful.

NB- If you have more reasons why you think women wear make up, please drop your comments in the little box below.

Thanks for reading.
