A church has N500 million to invest in a scam that will employ no one but can’t use same funds to start a farm that can employ thousands of youths and still make a return for the church and benefit the larger society‍♂️

Thanks! Hope it goes well for you. Keep the thread alive with updates, challenges and successes.

I've expended close to 2million, securing the land, building materials and labour is quite on the high side now. For a starter, i will advise you use wood to construct your pen, you will still need to concrete the floor anyway.
I got my weaners at the range of 25-30k, i ensure a vet comes in once a month for check-up, i currently have more than 10pigs now and i spend roughly 30k on feeds monthly.

Your profit comes from either you are rearing for fattening or to keep reproducing so you can keep selling the weaners. Some farmers castrate their pigs so it can grow so big to sell for slaughters, a kilo of pork now is #1200, imagine if you have 10 pigs that weighs 200kg each?
And if it is for selling your piglets, the least price for a weaner now is 18k, the exotic breeds cost way more, so if your female pig gives birth to lets say atleast 8 piglets, multiply it by 18k. Good business huh?

Well done…how much is your set up cost so far? Pen cost, getting your initial piglets, and monthly running cost?

Also what is your projected profit after say 6-12 months?

I got your message you are now in Akwaibom after many weeks. I just want to remind you that it’s been four weeks of issues here and there and stories without a single keg sold and money remitted even after telling me you would instruct your managers to begin sales last week in smaller quantities until you get a large order.

As mentioned in my last email I want to reiterate that the 100 kegs to be sold on or before the 20th and the full amount paid into my bank account. I'll exercise patience until the 20th after which I would be left with no other option than to pursue other means of recovering my investment.

As much I want to believe you, you have given me a few reasons to doubt and I'm not happy that one month after issuing instructions to sell, I'm yet to get any results considering that you consider yourself a major dealer even in the peak demand season of Christmas!

I'm giving you the final benefit of doubt until the 20th of December to prove yourself and credibility after which I would have to engage my lawyers on the next line of action.

I have exercised a lot of patience and even given you an extra N112K to sort out so called issues you had with your business dealings a while ago but the stories keep coming as usual.

I want to inform you that we would leave no legal stone unturned in recovering the full amount given to yourself and will extend our reach to the two guarantors who singed alongside yourself on this deal.

The rest of the credible individuals on this forum need to be careful in dealing with this lady and including the dealers that readily come to her defence.

so many pple have been calling and complaining why I stopped the usual class section we use to have here. some even accused me that I've gotten enough clients.... lol, well the answer is simple, we had exhausted topics on the production curriculum.
so today I decided to start something new.......
it's a new topic and curriculum :
PALM OIL MARKETING AND SUPPLIES
yeah once u are done with the productions, how do you market your products.!!! well every top client will ask you some or all of the following questions :
1: what's the source of your oil
2: what's the price per keg/ton/litre
3: what's the grade
4: what's the specifications
5: how often can you supply
This and many more shall be attempted during this new series. stay tuned.
God bless our hussles

I have a question on the marketing and transport especially. I have read reports of the challenges in transporting the oil from producing states to the North. What are these specifically and how can potential investors help to alleviate it?

In Malaysia Palm oil is transported in tankers or smaller trucks with capacity ranging from 10,000 -35,000 litres? How possible is this in Nigeria and what are the challenges involved?

I think its better to move in tankers and reduce the risk of transporting hundreds of yellow kegs daily on the roads with all the risks involved

what do you guys think?

Education / Re: Petroleum Engineering Vs Mechanical Engineering by jikings(m): 10:28am On Nov 10, 2016
ColonelDrake:
Do NOT make the mistake of choosing Petroleum Engineering. I'd strongly advise that you put in for Mechanical Engineering. Let's look at the reasons below:

1. Mech Eng is versatile compared to Pet. Eng. With your mechanical degree, you can be rest assured that you'd be able to work in numerous fields, in fact - in all fields. Mechanical engineers are in huge demand compared to Pet. Petroleum engineering is limited in terms of versatility. Think about what becomes of you if you're unable to secure employment in an oil & gas company.

2. The oil company has lost its glory days. The good old days are gone. The oil industry is highly volatile. You can be in today and out tomorrow due to the sensitivity of the industry to the prices of Brent. So, don't think because you studied Pet Eng, then you have an automatic ticket to work in the company. in fact, you'd still have to compete with hordes of engineers from other fields - electrical, mechanical, chemical, civil etc. If you check job adverts from oil companies, you'd see that job openings are always open to all engineering fields. in fact, we have more of electrical, mechanical and chemical engineers in the e&p industry compare to Pet eng.

3. Everything you will learn in your five years of study under Pet Eng could be learned in 1 year. Yes, 1 year. Facts and statistics shows that students from other engineering fields perform better than students with petroleum engineering background in a Master's class in Petroleum engineering. My point is that you'd see that most of the principles used in Pet Eng..are from advanced mathematics and physics. Mechanical engineers delve more into this than PE students. Talk about using complex mathematics principles such as Ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, Laplace theorem etc to model fluid flow. PE students are not exposed indepth to these mathematical principles unlike their mehcnaical and electrical engineering counterparts.

My recommendation is that you should put in for mechanical engineering and pursue Petroleum engineering in your Master's.

I agree with the post above...I'm a Petroleum Engineer with almost 10 years experience in the oil industry. My first degree was in Chemical Engineering and then a masters in Petroleum Engineering. Most people work as Petroleum Engineers (i.e Reservoir, Production or Drilling Engineers) do have a different first degree. The reason is that Petroleum engineering is quite narrow and will limit your opportunities outside the oil industry.

A first degree in another science or engineering subject opens you up to a more career options and you can decide if you wish to take a degree in Petroleum Engineering after that. The oil industry is struggling at the moment and may continue to do so for the next few years and it will be difficult for graduate petroleum engineers to get jobs in the near future. Thousands of experienced people have been made redundant in the last couple of years and are all hoping to get back in if things improve making it much more difficult for a graduate to be employed now.

My advise is study Mechanical Engineering and get a master in Petroleum Engineering. Just make sure you have at least a 2.1 in your first degree as most reputable Petroleum Engineering departments will not admit you with anything less than a 2.1

All the best!

Hey Oga Spyder,

I have a plot of land at Obinze Owerri 50by 100 that I'll like to fence. I have been quoted 1.2 million for full fence (12 blocks above ground) and a gate. What do you think of the quote and can you deliver cheaper?

spyder880:

In the light of current prices, this house will cost you about N17m for the construction till the roof is finished with parapet and good gauge aluminium sheets.
The furnishing of the two ground floor flats with the plastering of the whole outside will take about N8m in today's costs. This finish includes the inner plastering, dressing, electrical wires and fittings, lights, switches and distribution boards, plumbing piping and fittings, tiles and the workmanship, doors and windows, POP ceilings, I can even give you a soakaway system.

Oga spyder well done! I'm about to embark on a similar project at Owerri but building a hostel on a plot of land and two storey as your current project is. How much would you roughly estimate for this project from foundation to handing keys? I have been told that i can get 10-11 rooms per level times 3 =33 rooms in total over two floors on the plot? What do you think? Would the 17M you quoted above get me to the same stage with the hostel project?

I have emailed you and would like us to work together so please reply to my mail and this thread too!

Thanks!
Business / Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by jikings(m): 8:59pm On Jun 26, 2016
Hi Guys,

I have a question. I finally put my 2010 corolla this week on a 3 month trial to see if this Uber is viable for me, though my driver has performed relatively well but his fuel consumption or claims has almost wiped me out. The guy claims he has used almost 3 tanks in less than a week which are mostly unreceipted. Experienced partners aka fanex and tokyo bulls how do you manage the fuel aspect as it's the only loophole I'm struggling to close now? Please your advise is highly appreciated. Thanks.

fanex:

Uber will fail in Nigeria with time. they are getting more desperate by the day.
i pulled my cars a couple of months back when i saw this disaster coming.
uber has failed their riders who now have to ride in older and unsafe cars.
they failed themselves for being so greedy trying to appeal everyone. i mean how do u justify riding in a brand new car for as little as N500 of which 25% goes to uber.
the MD needs to be fired for failing its partners.

Yea you are right..the company is definitely desperate to grow and control the market like they are doing in most developed countries. They have dropped the requirements to get in now, next is the price and aim to drive out local competition including Kabu Kabu and hope reset the market to their own terms and conditions later but they are forgetting that Nigerians always want the cheapest thing and they will loose their biggest selling point safety and comfort by allowing everybody to join Uber.

Also they have really screwed up their existing partners and messed up the image the company by this move as many people have borrowed to invest in Uber only to be thrown out in the cold. I wonder how you can recover 3.5M investment in a 2013 car on Uber Select faster than a guy with a 2006 that costs less than 1M on UberX. This will move will also discourage incoming investors like myself as you are not sure where the goal post could be moved to in 6 months time.

I hope someone at Uber is reading this and thinking seriously as they have basically copied the naija policy strategy that has killed a lot of businesses in the past.

Guys what do think of Uber's latest move on criteria for cars

"For a vehicle to be eligible for Uber in Nigeria, it must meet the following standards:

UberX Vehicles must be 2006 or newer while UberSELECT must be 2012 or newer
No mileage restriction"

I think Uber just screwed up their existing partners who have spent a lot of money to buy newer vehicles and now moved on to Uber select as people will generally use UBERX if at all. Now every one will have a vehicle on Uber making it very competitive and less rewarding. Existing partners how are you managing with the new criteria and competition? Your thoughts appreciated
