PoliticsBye-election: Nestor Ezeme’s Drive To Give Enugu North Quality Representation by Jimzo(op):
By Chinonso Val Dugwu

NSUKKA, ENUGU STATE — As momentum builds ahead of the June 20, 2026 senatorial bye-election in the Enugu North Senatorial Zone, political heavyweight and longtime public administrator, Dr. Nestor Ezeme, is steadily emerging as one of the most formidable contenders in the race.

Banking on years of public service, institutional reform, and a sweeping vision for economic revival, Nestor is presenting himself not just as a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but as a unifying force for the people of Nsukka.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with a media delegation at his residence in Igugu, Udenu Local Government Area, on May 25, 2026, the former Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Post Primary Schools Management Board described his political movement as a “Rainbow coalition” designed to cut across party, ethnic, and local interests in pursuit of inclusive development for the zone.

A legacy rooted in reform

A legal practitioner, political scientist, and holder of a PhD in Peace and Conflict Development Studies, Nestor enters the contest with a résumé steeped in governance and policy administration.

His stewardship of the Enugu State Post Primary Schools Management Board remains one of the strongest pillars of his campaign narrative.

During his tenure, he was credited with restoring stability to the state’s secondary education system and driving the digitalization of more than 300 public schools through e-library initiatives.

“We were able to bridge the digital divide,” Nestor noted, stressing that the reforms created opportunities for students in public schools to compete favourably with their counterparts in elite private institutions.

Supporters say the reforms reflected not only administrative discipline but also a deeper commitment to expanding access and equity in education.

Reimagining Nsukka’s economic future

Beyond education, Nestor is also positioning economic revitalization at the center of his campaign.

He expressed concern over the current state of the Adarice agricultural project in Uzo-Uwani, describing the once-promising initiative as a symbol of abandoned potential. According to him, the project can become a major driver of employment and industrial growth if properly revived through strategic federal engagement and private sector collaboration.

“I want to change the entire narrative,” Nestor declared.

He explained that his development blueprint would deploy constituency projects not as political rewards, but as strategic tools for balanced growth across the six local government areas in the senatorial district.

Central to that vision are tech-driven scholarship schemes and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at preparing young people in Nsukka for opportunities in a rapidly evolving economy. Nestor maintained that the region’s greatest asset remains its human capital.

Politics and party dynamics

Running on the platform of the PDP, Nestor brushed aside concerns over internal party tensions, insisting that the party remains broad enough to accommodate varying interests and tendencies.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammad and Samuel Anyanwu, describing the PDP as a “big umbrella” capable of sustaining unity despite differing opinions.

Even so, he emphasized the need for political harmony and inclusiveness, pledging to work closely with the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Uche Nnaji, toward achieving balanced representation and shared progress for the region.

Confidence ahead of the polls

With campaigns gradually intensifying across Nsukka and surrounding communities, Nestor expressed confidence in the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a transparent and credible election.

At the same time, he insisted that his supporters remain vigilant and organized at every polling unit.

“The people know the stuff I am made of,” he concluded. “My impact will be felt, and I will deliver the dividends of democracy”.

As the countdown to the Enugu North senatorial bye-election continues, Nestor’s campaign is increasingly drawing attention for its blend of technocratic credentials, grassroots appeal, and ambitious promises of economic renewal — setting the stage for what could become one of the region’s most closely watched political contests.

PoliticsEnugu: Ezugwu, Onyechi, Others Emerge APC Assembly Consensus Candidates by Jimzo(op):
By Dugwu Chinonso Val

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has successfully concluded its state house of assembly primary elections across several constituencies, held on Wednesday, 20th May, 2026 marked by a resounding display of party unity.

In a clear signal of confidence in their current representatives, the party has adopted its sitting members as consensus candidates, turning what was anticipated to be a competitive contest into a day of affirmation.

While the majority of those confirmed are incumbents leveraging their legislative records, the process also saw the emergence of Mrs. Favour Asogwa as a consensus candidate for the Igbo-Eze South constituency, reflecting the party's strategic approach to the upcoming general elections.

Affirmation of Performance and Legislative Record

The incumbents cited their extensive legislative achievements and oversight functions as the bedrock of their consensus selection.

Hon. Pius Ezugwu (Nsukka East): Highlighting his leadership as Chairman of the House Committee on Land and Urban Development, Ezugwu pointed to the Enugu State Geographic Information System services law as a landmark achievement that curtailed land racketeering. His record also includes road infrastructure projects and the delivery of five boreholes and scholarships to 50 undergraduates.

Hon. Malachy Okey Onyechi (Nsukka West): Onyechi underscored his commitment to legislative duty, appropriation, and constituency engagement. His tenure has been marked by active advocacy for road and water projects, as well as youth empowerment through SME financial aid and influence in job placements across private and public sectors.

Hon. Ejike Eze (Igbo-Eze North I/Ozzi): As Chief Whip of the House, Eze noted that his selection was a testament to his service, which includes the distribution of motorcycles, tricycles, and grinding machines to constituents, alongside scholarship support.

Hon. Nnaemeka Clifford Obe (Igbo-Eze North II): The Chairman of the Committee on Infrastructure emphasized his active role in moving key motions and providing consistent oversight, coupled with support for students and constituents affected by previous election-related losses.

A Fresh Direction: Mrs. Favour Asogwa

In Igbo-Eze South, the party opted for Mrs. Favour Asogwa, a former board member of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede. Stakeholders, including former Local Government Chairman Hon. Peter Andy, described her selection as placing the "right peg in a right hole," citing her capacity and diligence. Asogwa expressed a commitment to active representation, criticizing the current incumbent for a perceived lack of visibility and responsiveness to the needs of the constituents.

Readiness for the General Election

The consensus candidates displayed a unified front regarding the upcoming general elections, asserting that their track records leave them unfazed by opposition parties. While acknowledging that fielding opposition candidates is a necessary democratic tradition, the incumbents expressed confidence that their performance would effectively neutralize electoral challenges.

Gratitude to Party Stakeholders

A recurring theme throughout the primaries was the spirit of gratitude directed toward party leadership. The candidates extended their appreciation to stakeholders from the ward to the federal level. In particular, they lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his national leadership and expressed deep appreciation for the "charismatic" and "workaholic" leadership of the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose magnanimity and policy direction were credited with enabling the infrastructure development and positive atmosphere that characterized their tenures.

Politics2027: Obeta, Agbo Secure Return Tickets As APC Holds Reps Primaries by Jimzo(op): 10:45am On May 18
The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary elections in the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South and Udenu/Igbo-Eze North federal constituencies recorded what party stakeholders described as a successful and peaceful exercise.

The primaries, held across various wards nationwide on Saturday, May 16, 2026, produced the incumbent lawmakers, Hon. Chidi Mark Obeta and Hon. Denis Agbo, popularly known as “Mr Integrity,” as the party’s flagbearers for the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South and Udenu/Igbo-Eze North federal constituencies respectively.

The exercise, conducted using the Option A4 voting system, was widely described as a demonstration of internal democracy and a reflection of the people’s power in determining their representatives. The process reportedly enjoyed massive participation, especially in the Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South federal constituency, where Barr. Silas Asogwa, Obeta’s major challenger, was said to have supported the adoption of a system that allowed party members to openly choose their preferred candidate.

At the end of the exercise, Obeta defeated Asogwa by a wide margin, polling thousands of votes against hundreds. Similarly, in the Udenu/Igbo-Eze North federal constituency, Hon. Denis Agbo defeated Dr. Ejikeme Odumegwu, popularly known as Ndegbe, to clinch the party’s ticket.

The Chairmen of Nsukka, Igbo-Eze South and Igbo-Eze North Local Government Areas commended the peaceful conduct and outcome of the primaries.

Speaking on the exercise, the Chairman of Nsukka  Local Government Area, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, described the election as peaceful, seamless and devoid of rancour or skirmishes. According to him, the outcome further proved that the APC has established a strong grassroots presence in Nsukka and Enugu State at large.

He attributed the success of the exercise to the leadership style of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“As brothers, there should be no winner or loser. Anybody who loses today may win tomorrow. Let us come together and move forward,” he said, while urging unsuccessful aspirants and their supporters to remain committed to the party.

Also speaking at the residence of Hon. Denis Agbo, the Chairman of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Uche Michael Ogalla, described the primary as smooth, free, fair and highly credible.

He praised Agbo’s leadership and representation, noting that the lawmaker had attracted numerous democratic dividends to the constituency. Ogalla also linked the growing acceptance of the APC in Enugu State to the infrastructural projects being executed by Governor Peter Mbah, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, security and road construction.

For the Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Barr. Ferdinand Ukwueze, the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the primaries reflected the people’s acceptance of the process and a return of political power to the grassroots.

According to him, the adoption of the Option A4 system encouraged greater participation, as people were now more interested in actively choosing those who would represent them.

“People are making sacrifices by leaving their important engagements just to participate in the process,” he stated.

A party member from Amaebo Ward, Chidera Jude, popularly known as “Ubi Ego,” also described the exercise as smooth, peaceful and transparent. He said the large turnout of party faithful showed the growing support for Governor Peter Mbah and the APC in Enugu State.

He further described Barr. Ferdinand Ukwueze as one of the best-performing council chairmen in the history of the area, praising what he called the chairman’s impactful projects and leadership capacity.

Speaking during the exercise, the South-East Zonal Women Leader of the APC, Mrs. Obiaji, commended the peaceful conduct of the primaries and lauded Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership style, especially his inclusion of women in governance.

According to her, the governor’s support for women’s participation in politics and governance demonstrated a commitment to national development and inclusiveness. She also noted that the impressive turnout of women during the exercise reflected the grassroots strength of the APC.

OHA-NA-EZE NDI IGBO SPEAKS

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Igbo-Eze South chapter, Chief Barr. Chika, described the election as peaceful and commendable.

Although he identified himself as non-partisan, he applauded the APC for conducting a violence-free exercise.

“This exercise did not result in any violence. We commend the party for the peaceful conduct,” he said.

With the conclusion of the APC House of Representatives primaries, attention is now shifting to other forthcoming primaries, including those for the Senate, presidency, governorship and state Houses of Assembly.

Candidates who emerge as party flagbearers will later face contenders from other political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), New Democratic Congress (NDC), among others.

Politics2027: House Of Reps Aspirant Endorses Mbah, Tinubu’s Re-election by Jimzo(op): 10:23pm On May 03
The ancient town of Nsukka witnessed a political earthquake on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, as thousands of stakeholders, traditional rulers, and youth groups from all local government areas in the Enugu North Senatorial District converged for a mega rally at Nsukka Township Stadium to formally endorse Governor Peter Mbah and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.

The atmosphere was electric, characterized by a sea of supporters asserting that the "Tomorrow is Here" mantra of the current administration has already yielded transformative results. Amidst the high-profile attendees, one voice resonated with particular strategic clarity: Sir Engr.

Ucheonwu Prince Henry-Hart, a frontline aspirant for the Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under All Progressives Congress (APC)

In an exclusive interview with Degavoice media on the sidelines of the rally, Sir Engr. Henry-Hart provided a deep dive into his political philosophy and his reasons for backing Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

According to Engr. Ucheonwu, “Mbah is a performing Governor who is focused on achievements. All of us are with him. I’m here for his endorsement... Mbah’s wise governance has brought good democratic dividends and good political structure. Enugu state is APC and APC is Enugu state."

His assertion underscores a shift toward performance-based politics over narrow partisanship. By praising Governor Mbah’s "wise governance," he highlights the tangible infrastructure and economic reforms that have reached the grassroots. His "Enugu is APC" remark signals a strategic alignment aimed at ensuring Enugu remains connected to the center, facilitating a seamless flow of federal resources to the state.

Furthering his chats with Degavoice, he stated, “I have been in politics from 1999. I am a grassroot politician who resides in his community to do politics. I am not an abroad politician but one at the base."

This is a direct appeal to the electorate’s desire for accessibility. By distinguishing himself from "abroad politicians"—those who only appear during election cycles— Engr. Ucheonwu positions himself as a relatable leader who shares the daily realities of his constituents. His longevity
in the game since 1999 suggests a deep institutional memory and a proven track record of loyalty.

Uzo-Uwani sits on a literal goldmine. Engr. Ucheonwu focus on oil exploration in Iga and surrounding areas marks him as a developmental-minded aspirant. He views the legislative seat not just as a political office, but as a platform to lobby so as to unlock the economic potential of his local government, which would provide jobs and royalties for his constituency and the entire state.

"Since the discovery of oil in my LG, only Mbah has spoken about it for exploration. It is my intention to facilitate the accelerate exploration for the benefit of the constituent state and the federation."

His most poignant point perhaps is his belief in political rotation based on capacity. He champions the "Zoning plus Capacity" model. He advocates for the Iga community—a minority but significant cultural bloc within Uzo-Uwani—to be given a sense of belonging. It is a call for inclusive governance that ensures no group is marginalized in the power-sharing formula of the constituency.
“I support zoning but it must be based on capacity. Iga community in Enugu state should be considered this time around for equity and fairness.”

The Representation Gap: Why Uzo-Uwani’s Turn is Now

Since 1999, the Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency has navigated various legislative cycles, with representation largely concentrated in one wing of the constituency. Historically, the seat has been occupied by notable figures such as Hon. Martins George Oke, Hon. Stella Ngwu and Stainless Chijioke Nwodo; (Labour Party - LP) stayed for some months before he was removed by court—all representing the Igbo-Etiti axis under the PDP banner. While Hon. Paul Eze (Okpogu) provided representation for Uzo-Uwani between 2011 to 2015, the pendulum naturally and as a matter of equity and justice should swing back to Uzo-uwani

As the 2027 cycle approaches, the argument for an Uzo-Uwani candidate—specifically one from the Iga community of Enugu state like Sir Engr. Henry-Hart—is rooted in the principle of "Brotherly Rotation." For the constituency to remain united and progress equitably, the representation must reflect the diversity of its people. Henry-Hart’s candidacy represents a bridge toward balancing these scales of power.

Profile of a Technocrat: Why Sir Engr. Henry-Hart?

Sir Engr. Ucheonwu Prince Henry-Hart is not a typical politician; he is a refined technocrat with a resume that speaks of excellence and international exposure.

Academic Excellence: A graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Ambrose Alli University, he holds an M.Sc. in Occupational Health and Safety Management from the prestigious Loughborough University, UK. His education spans across Obafemi Awolowo University and other international institutions, making him one of the most intellectually equipped aspirants in the race.

Professional Prowess: With over 30 years of experience in the Upstream Oil and Gas sector, Henry-Hart has functioned as a high-level Executive in Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (QHSSE). His career at the major oil and gas firms in Nigeria and beyond has equipped him with the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.

Leadership & Business Acumen: A member of over 13 professional bodies and a participant in the Authentic Leadership Course at Lagos Business School, he possesses the "corporate grit" needed to attract investments to Nsukka Cultural Zone.

As the Nsukka mega rally concluded, the message was clear: while the zone stands firmly behind Governor Mbah, they are also looking for new, capable legislative leaders. Sir Engr. Henry-Hart, with his blend of grassroots loyalty and global expertise, stands out as the ideal choice to bridge the gap between the people's needs and the corridors of federal power in 2027.

PoliticsAdada Lecture Series 2026: Challenging The Igbo Nsukka by Jimzo(op): 11:58am On Apr 25
By Chinonso Dugwu

For too long, the Nsukka cultural zone has occupied a position that is as paradoxical as it is frustrating. As the demographic heartbeat of Enugu State, the zone commands an impressive voting population—well over 51 percent—that represents a formidable electoral force capable of shaping the state’s political trajectory. Yet, this numerical strength has historically failed to translate into a commensurate level of socio-economic development or equitable political representation.

Most notably, the Association of Nsukka Professors (ANP) in a recent parley with the media recounts that since the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1999, the Nsukka zone—despite being brimming with world-class intellectual, administrative, and governance talents—has yet to produce a Minister of the Federal Republic. This absence at the highest echelons of national policy-making is not merely a statistical anomaly; it is a profound oversight that silences the region’s voice where it matters most.

This sense of exclusion according to the group is compounded by the unfinished business of the Adada State movement. The quest for the creation of Adada State remains the oldest agitation for state creation in the country, yet it persists as a mirage in our political landscape, despite the zone's undeniable justification for statehood. This systemic alienation and the stalled aspirations for statehood have created an urgent need for an intellectual and strategic renaissance.

The disparity between the zone’s electoral contribution and its actual stake in the governance framework is not merely a political grievance; it is a fundamental challenge to the zone’s long-term sustainability. It is against this backdrop that the Nsukka people and it’s environs must now converge to redefine their narrative, moving from being marginalized participants to becoming the architects of their own future.

The Path Forward: Adada Lecture Series 2026

The intellectual landscape of the Nsukka cultural zone is poised for a significant moment of reflection and strategic planning. On Tuesday, 28 April 2026, the Princess Alexandra Auditorium at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, will host the 2026 Adada Lecture Series, an event that bridges the gap between academic theory and the practical realities of governance.

Organized by the Association of Nsukka Professors (ANP) under the leadership of Prof. Paully E. Ugwuoke—a powerhouse collective of over 200 distinguished scholars from the cultural zone—this year’s lecture promises to be more than just an academic gathering. It is a clarion call for intellectual leadership as a tool for sustainable regional and national development.

A Convergence of Thought and Leadership

The theme for this year, ”Intellectualism and the Development of a People: Mainstreaming the Igbo Extraction within the Context of Nigeria’s Federal Governance System,” addresses the urgent need to integrate scholarship with the socioeconomic and political aspirations of the Igbo Nsukka.

Speakers and Dignitaries

The ANP has curated a lineup of speakers and dignitaries that reflects the gravity of this mission:
Guest Lecturer: His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, Governor of Anambra State. A renowned economist and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Soludo represents the ideal intersection of rigorous academic inquiry and high-level public service.

Chairman of the Occasion: Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (Rtd.), the immediate past Chief of Naval Staff. His presence signifies the national importance of the discussions regarding governance and security.

Special Guest of Honour: His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, who brings the focus of the event directly to the immediate developmental needs of the state in general and the zone in particular.

Royal Father of the Day: His Royal Majesty, Samuel Asadu, Igwe Ogadagidi of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom and Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council, grounding the discourse in our rich cultural heritage.

Keynote Speaker: Senator Chukwuka Utazi, providing crucial legislative perspectives on Nsukka’s position within the federal framework.
Chief Host: Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya; Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Why the Adada Lecture Matters

The Adada Lecture Series has cemented its reputation as a premier platform for constructive dialogue. Since its inauguration in 2011, it has moved beyond rhetoric to become a space where policymakers and intellectuals confront the challenges of youth empowerment, institutional capacity building, and equitable representation.

With a history of speakers that includes voices as diverse and influential as Mr. Peter Obi, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and Bishop (Prof) Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, the 2026 edition continues the tradition of hosting individuals whose careers have shaped the trajectory of Nigeria’s development.

For the Association of Nsukka Professors, this event is not just a conventional practice; it is about mobilization. By leveraging the vast intellectual capital of the Nsukka zone, the ANP seeks to ensure that the region remains a vital, influential stakeholder in the Nigerian project.

Join the Conversation

The event is set to attract a distinguished audience of state officials, legislative members, business leaders, and the media. The organizers invite all stakeholders to join in these critical conversations that will shape the future of our zone.

The future of the Nsukka cultural zone depends on our ability to translate our numbers into influence, and our intellectualism into actionable policy. Let us fill the hall, raise our voices, and participate in the intellectual reawakening that our region so desperately needs.

CelebritiesKhazim Danmola Lights Up Tempo Lagos As Host And MC by Jimzo(op): 6:21pm On Oct 17, 2025
When Khazim Danmola holds the mic, Lagos listens. And at Tempo Lagos’ maiden edition, the renowned Nollywood actor did more than just host — he owned the night. With the confidence of a star and the swagger of a true Lagosian, Khazim Danmola set the tempo for what became an unforgettable celebration of Afrobeats and African culture.

Tempo Lagos — The Cultural Movement Begins

Held on September 13, 2025, the event marked a historic debut — one that sold out twice, crashed its own ticketing site, and pulled in over 700 fans eager to witness the rebirth of Lagos nightlife.

But what made this night legendary wasn’t just the crowd, the lights, or the music — it was the man with the mic. Khazim Danmola, as Host and Master of Ceremonies, delivered a performance that fused Hollywood polish with Lagos street energy. He guided every beat, lifted every cheer, and kept the night flowing like a perfectly mixed track.

Tempo Lagos wasn’t just another party — it was a rebellion against the fading edge of homegrown Afrobeats, a movement that celebrated the genre’s roots in the most vibrant way possible.

Khazim Danmola: The Voice, The Vibe, The Energy

When Khazim stepped on stage, the atmosphere shifted. His charisma wrapped the audience in rhythm and laughter. Every cue, every introduction, and every moment in between felt electric.

The crowd roared as Crayvelli, DJ Titanium, and Tolu Daniels took turns lighting up the stage — but through it all, Khazim’s presence held it together, blending his Nollywood flair with MC precision. He wasn’t just hosting a show; he was conducting an orchestra of energy, culture, and Lagos magic.

Beats, Culture, and Pure Lagos Energy

More than 500 guests never left the dancefloor as the beats rolled in waves of Afro energy. The space transformed into a living gallery of culture — from Retro Gaming Stations to a buzzing Tattoo Parlour, a bold Afrobeats Wall of Fame, and a fully charged bar that kept spirits high.

It was a night designed to celebrate Afrobeats in its raw, unfiltered form — and Khazim Danmola was the heartbeat guiding every moment. His ability to connect, entertain, and elevate made the difference between just another concert and a legendary Lagos experience.

Tempo Lagos — Hosted with Heart, Powered by Culture

As the final track faded and the lights dimmed, the applause didn’t stop. It wasn’t just for the performers or the production — it was for Khazim Danmola, the man who brought it all to life.

His effortless control, humor, and energy turned Tempo Lagos into a masterclass in hosting — one that perfectly bridged the gap between film fame and live performance charisma.

Tempo Lagos made a statement: Afrobeats is home, Lagos is its heart, and when Khazim Danmola holds the mic, the culture listens.

EducationAs UNN Appoints A Substantive Vice Chancellor by Jimzo(op): 6:59pm On Jul 27, 2025
In the next few days, the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria led by a thorough bred technocrat Engr K.O. Ojo will appoint a substantive Vice Chancellor. This will be coming after a significantly challenging 14 months and 3 acting Vice Chancellors. The pressure is high and the tension is palpable. This is so because the university has tasted decay and stagnation way below the mean in the currently challenged Nigerian University system. The thousands of alumni and alumnae are worried that the Alma Mater has fallen upon protracted difficult times, while the millions of critical stakeholders across the globe are worried that this unique heritage is in protracted distress.

The University of Nigeria, like any other, has peculiarities. A professor of the university is like no other, higher or lower, but just unique. The process, and intellectual output leading to being one are unique. Over time, this has enabled the university to hold her own not just in Nigeria but also amongst great universities in Africa and beyond. And this has played roles in the processes that led to the appointment of Vice Chancellors in the past. As the university council approaches this process these politically intriguing times the tasks before the key drivers of the process come by tranches:

The Senate; The senate must elect two members of Senate who are not members of senate to serve in the Joint Council-Senate Selection Board. The Senate must intentionally and deliberately set out to elect two credible senators who understand the university, have sacrificed and are willing to sacrifice for the university, and in particular are ethically above reproach.

(1) Persons who are not avaricious and transactional.

(2) Persons who are known to be objective and unbiased in assessment and selection processes, including the regular assessment of staff and students!

(3) Persons who do not have records of manipulating the Extant laws, rules and Regulations of the University or any other organization in which they have served in order to favour their Selfish/Group Interests.

(4) Persons who are trustworthy, and cannot be easily enticed by those in positions of authority!

(5) Persons who are known to be bold in speaking and propagating truth in all circumstances, not minding whose ox is gored.

*It is only such persons that will be unbiased in the examination of the Curriculum Vitae of the shortlisted candidates and interaction with them in order to be able to appoint the most qualified and most suitable person Vice Chancellor as provided in the Guidelines for the appointment of the Vice Chancellor! It is impossible to learn left-handedness at old age!

If two Professors who possess the above attributes listed above are elected to serve in the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, it will be easier for them to convince the other three members of the Selection Board, including "two members of Council, not being members of the Senate" and the Pro-Chancellor as Chairman to devise unbiased and globally competitive Selection Criteria through which the most qualified and most suitable person will be appointed Vice Chancellor of the University. A person who shall be chairman of Senate and whose duty it shall be to superintend the process for the promotion and appointment of academics to the rank of professor must be one who is is already one, or who is fit and proper to be professor of the university in his or her own right. It is only when the most qualified and most suitable person is appointed Vice Chancellor that there will be a suitable environment for the kind of teaching, research and community service which will enable the University of Nigeria to sustain her legacy and remain globally competitive and take its rightful position among universities, nationally and globally. It is then that there will be sustainable development of the University. This will translate to the restoration of the dignity of man!

The Senate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka should ensure that the university is not dragged several decades backwards by appointing someone who is not qualified to be a Professor in UNN. There can be no moral authority to continue to use the Yellow Book to assess academics for promotion, if someone is appointed as Vice Chancellor, who cannot pass the rigors of the Yellow Book. The Senate and Council should not stoop, as doing so would damage the foundation upon which much of the international acclaim that the university enjoys today stands. In addition to this, the Senate needs to make a bold statement on the need for the Selection Board to use this particular Selection Criterion in its meeting scheduled to hold on Monday, 28th July, 2025. Senate must therefore critically assess, without sentiments, each of the candidates contesting for election into the Selection Board. This note has become important in the light of the unusual jostling, in particular by external influences including Traditional Rulers and Local Council Chairpersons to influence the Senate Process.

The Joint Council and Senate Selection Board: The Committee of five has an extremely important role assigned it by the University laws; to examine the Curriculum Vitae of the shortlisted candidates, interact with them and recommend to the Council three persons from which a Vice Chancellor may be appointed. Members of this Board must demonstrate altruism in this assignment. They are encouraged to place themselves in the shoes of Nnamdi Azikiwe who founded the university, and thereby consider what is best for her without sentiment in this process.

The Governing Council: It is already in the public domain that the technocrat chairman and other eminent members of the Governing Council are under excruciating pressure from governors and sundry political forces aiming to make political capital of this appointment. At his introduction, Engr. Kayode Ojo told members of the University of Nigeria Senate that he is the youngest Pro-Chancellor in the Federal University System, now sent to superintend the oldest autonomous university at a difficult time. So he came highly pre-qualified and as a unique star in the galaxy. In particular, he was sent to secure peace and progress at a time of turmoil, recovery and growth following protracted illness, stagnation and decay. In carrying out this assignment, Engr Ojo and the Council he leads must necessarily therefore play above self, business and personal considerations. It is well to remind him and his council that notwithstanding the current challenges of the university, they are in the shoes of giants.

The Minister: Using the cliché “the best thing since sliced bread”, it goes without saying that Dr Tunji Alausa is the best thing to have happened to the Educational Policy and the ministry in a while. That said, it is expected that the ministry should manifest this in the processes in the universities at this critical time in the history of the university. The processes of the University of Nigeria must now be the test case.

Too many eyes are on the Ministry, the University and the Council. Any mismanagement of this appointment process could produce a cascade of events beyond the University.

Rt. Hon. Barr. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha, Member Representing Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly has awarded immediate scholarship to survivor kidnapped-girl – Miss Chiamaka Nworie, from basic primary six, up to university level.

Hon. Umeha also donated the sum of N 200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) to the family of the miraculous girl to cater for her medical and psychological care after the trauma of her ordeal in the hands of the now apprehended ritual killer and kidnapper – Obi Levi Obieze.

It may be recalled that last week, youths of Ndiagu Umumba community in Ezeagu Local Council of Enugu State got a tip-off from the cries of the kidnapped Chiamaka Nworie, which led them to where she was being held by her kidnappers – an operation that ultimately led to the arrest of the kidnapping syndicate and their leader who are now awaiting their date with justice.

Hon. Umeha made the humanitarian intervention on 30th May, 2025 through the Umeha-Care Foundation – a vehicle which has been deployed effectively in attending to the humanitarian needs of disadvantaged persons and groups across Ezeagu-Udi Federal Constituency.

Speaking at the official presentation, Hon. Ozor Obinna OzorAnonde - the Special Assistant to Hon. Umeha on culture, described 13-year-old Chiamaka as a destiny-child through whom God has used to liberate people of the community and Ndi Enugu at large, from falling potential victims to the kidnapping-ring.

He described the circumstances of her rescue as miraculous; an indication that she was destined for greatness.

He therefore expressed the hope and optimism that the scholarship would afford her the opportunity to pursue her destiny and fulfill her potentials.

During the presentation, Hon. Ozor Obinna also indicated Hon. Umeha’s pledge to look into the deplorable condition of the road network in that part of the community which will help in reducing kidnapping and criminality in the area at large.

PoliticsEnugu: Ugwuanyi Establishes 1,700 Start Up Agribusiness Through APPEALS Project by Jimzo(op): 2:00am On Oct 09, 2022
By Ambrose Igboke

The Agricultural Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria is aimed at attaining adequate food security in the country through pragmatic support to farmers across strategic value chains in Nigeria.

The Governor of Enugu State Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, keyed into this critical policy by initiating the state version of agricultural transformation.

One of the agriculture policy drives of Governor Ugwuanyi is evident in attracting the Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support Project (APPEALS) of the World Bank to Enugu State.

The project objective is to enhance the productivity of at least 10,000 farmers in Enugu State as direct beneficiaries.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, beyond attracting the APPEALS Project to Enugu State, being the only state in the South East, went further to match intention with action by promptly paying a counterpart fund of N244 million. This put the project in a steady footing to fully access the funding from the World Bank and properly implement its developmental objectives.

A critical aspect of the APPEALS Project is the Women and Youth Empowerment Programme (WYEP) which empowers 1700 women, youth and people with disability. In Enugu State, a total of 1700 beneficiaries, out of which are 85 persons with disabilities, have been trained in the practicality, economics, business psychology and marketing dynamics in five value chains, namely; aquaculture, Cashew, cassava, poultry and rice.

Furthermore, each of these 1,700 beneficiaries have received grants to the average sum of N2, 000,000 to start up businesses in their chosen agricultural value chains. So far, through the support of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Project has disbursed the sum of N3.4 billion for the Women and Youth Empowerment Programme.

This has made it possible for these 1, 700 beneficiaries to establish their own start up businesses in their chosen value chains and various segments of production, processing and marketing.

The implication of this is that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has added over 1,700 new farmers to Enugu State, mostly made up of the youth population. They have been fully funded with grants in form of inputs, climate smart technology support and building of infrastructure like poultry pens.

It is expected that these beneficiaries will be firmly established in their various businesses. The spiral effect on the economy of Enugu State will create a quantum leap in economic development, job creation and food security in every senatorial zone and each local government area of Enugu State.

Ambrose Igboke is the Communication Officer of Enugu APPEALS Project.

Nigeria 2023: Beyond Peter Obi (2)

“Even if at all I am going to consider other candidates, I will still consider Obi. I have a right to choose a candidate. Those I won’t consider at all are the candidates from the Southwest and that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. It is a matter of principle… I am talking of politics of principle. I know that Peter has not got the dollar of Tinubu neither has he got the dollar of Atiku. All I am saying is that he is better than the two other candidates. And I am not talking of the baggage Tinubu or Atiku may be carrying now. I am talking of the principle of fairness and justice. The moment you deviate from the politics of principle in this country, you won’t get anywhere…It is only Peter Obi that can rule independently without the influence of these criminals in the government. Tinubu will only give continuity to Buhari’s incompetence… We know Peter Obi very well, that’s why we endorsed him. He will not disappoint Nigerians, let’s put tribal differences apart and vote the right leader in…Tinubu sold Buhari to over 200 million Nigerians for his own selfish interest of wanting to rule after Buhari. None of them loves Nigeria.” – Pa Ayo Adebanjo (Yoruba leader)

“I just want you to know that if you’re thinking of Peter Obi. We are talking of competence. This is not about Igbo, or about Christianity. This is about competence, character and capacity and courage… It is about being able to make demands and be able to criticize and be able to hold whoever is in the office accountable… Poverty has already shown us. Insecurity has already shown us. The terrorists are showing us already. The thing that we need to do is to come together and choose the person that will do the job.” – Aisha Yesufu (Social crusader and human rights activist)...Read more: https://www.crispng.com/nigeria-2023-beyond-peter-obi-2/

“Peter Obi is somebody… as I was telling Doyin about six weeks ago, I said that even if Peter did not become the vice president of this country, from what I know of Peter’s capacity, whatever government that comes, if it is the PDP, he must be in charge of the economy because that is where he is good at. I listened to him , not once, not twice and not three times, he knows his onions and I think that his approach will bring solutions to this country, economic solutions. He is worthy of praise. But the political solution which is the basis on which the economic solution would survive, it is what is causing the problem.” Amb Aminu Wali (PDP Chieftain)

There is something phenomenal about this man that even his opponents and critics have come to believe that he is the best amongst the candidates that can take Nigeria out of its present economical and political mess. Even when he does not ‘share’ dollars like others, his name keeps spreading like a wild fire. Nigerians, youths, men and women from all regions, tribes, and religions with joy self-sponsor their activities to support his movement.

He is looking like a glimpse of hope in this very long, tortuous, traumatic, hopeless and endless journey. Just like a sip after a very long trek in the desert. True. What is currently happening in Nigeria politically looks like a divine movement that nobody can stop. It’s beyond religion, beyond tribe, age and gender. Even beyond the Peter Obi himself. To Boost Its Economy, Japan Asks Youths To Drink More Alcohol

To boost its economy, the Japanese government has launched a new campaign aimed at encouraging youths in the country to drink more alcohol.

In a blog post, the country’s National Tax Agency (NTA) said the initiative followed a drastic fall in tax revenues from alcoholic beverages.

According to the agency, alcohol consumption in the country fell from an average of 100 litres a person a year in 1995 to 75 litres in 2020.

A report by Japan Times also showed that taxes on alcohol accounted for 1.7% of Japan’s tax revenue in 2020, down from 3% in 2011 and 5% in 1980.

In the statement, NTA said the campaign tagged “Sake Viva!” is a nationwide competition to get ideas from the youths on how to make alcohol more appealing to young people in the country.

The government also said the contest, which targets those between the ages of 20 to 39, will help boost tax revenue from alcohol consumption.

It added that the coronavirus pandemic, as well as demographic changes such as declining birthrate and aging population, have significantly affected the country’s alcohol intake rate...Read more: https://www.crispng.com/to-boost-its-economy-japan-asks-youths-to-drink-more-alcohol/

Peter Obi Not A Threat To Tinubu, Says Group

The forum of Kogi former political office holders says Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party is not a threat to the victory of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 poll.

Abdulmumin Sadik, the chairman of the forum, stated this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

Sadik said that the achievement of Tinubu when he was governor of Lagos State was yet to be beaten.

“It is there for all to see. Lagos State is like combining the entire South East as one state, the economy of the entire South East is like that of Lagos State,” he said.

“If Tinubu can transform Lagos State in eight years, he can transform Nigeria, all it takes is the political will which he has, following his antecedence as governor.

“You can’t compare what Obi did in Anambra as governor to what Tinubu did in Lagos State as governor which had been very consistent.

“Obi for me, may have his qualities, but I think for now, he is in the market at the wrong time, because the APC candidate is more credible and has a better credentials.”

Computer Village, Mile 12… 7 Top Markets Every Lagosian Must Visit

Based on location, a market is a place where goods and services are exchanged for money and value. In Africa, the local markets are still a big avenue for buying and exchanging goods.

Despite emerging online markets, the physical ones are still highly sought-after in Nigeria for several reasons. One of such is that goods or services are relatively cheaper because they are sold in large quantities.

In Lagos state, the economic hub of the nation, there are a plethora of local markets that are known universally due to the bulk volume of buying and selling that occur in them. In fact, online vendors depend on these markets to stock their online shops, as well as boutique, malls and supermarkets in highbrow areas.

If you reside in Lagos state and you haven’t visited three out of these mega local markets; perhaps you should question your residency status. This is because the goods sold in these markets are necessities and to make a great bargain, you should have unless you are among the ‘journey just come’...Read more: https://www.crispng.com/computer-village-mile-12-7-top-markets-every-lagosian-must-visit/

The New Normal? — Why Married, Single Women Are Closing Fashion Gaps

Culture is time-bound. It’s flexible and can adapt to trends, habits, events in a society. The same can be said of fashion. The way people live and dress is transient.

Before now for instance, Nigerians — like many other Africans — always distinguished the married from the single by titles, lifestyle and mode of dressing due to how much they cherish family life.

This may not be a universal conformity but it’s common phenomenon in African culture. Family life is treasured, prioritised and flaunted.

But westerniaation seems to be eroding most of the Nigerian family emblem in the manner married women dress nowadays.

In the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000 the head wear (gele), wrapper blouse and beads were the common fashion piece that belonged to wives and mothers.

A married woman is identified by these traditional items. It was prideful to always dress in the Iro, Buba, George and Hollandis wrappers. Then, the wearing of these traditional pieces indicated that a woman is no longer on the ‘shelf’ but has been ‘acquired’ by her husband...Read more: https://www.crispng.com/the-new-normal-why-married-single-women-are-closing-fashion-gaps/

INTERVIEW: Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim Ticket An Insult To Christians — This Isn’t 1993, Says Igboke

The 2023 election has continued to dominate discussions in several quarters. A major issue ahead of next year’s poll is the Muslim-Muslim ticket of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In this piece, Ambrose Igboke, the ace Nigerian broadcaster, public affairs analyst and Public Relations (PR), dissects major issues in the country’s political landscape ahead of 2023.

Igboke featured on a recent Twitter space organised by CRISPNG.

From the results and happenings of Ekiti and Osun state can you say Nigeria is ready for 2023 election?

First of all, I want to lay a background to our democratic experience. This is the 62nd year we have independence. We would rather say that military regime has been the norm. The real democracy started on and May 29 1999 and so we have 23 years of unbroken transition.

We must say from the experience we have, we are getting better especially in the area of the electoral process. The game-changer was the introduction of the electoral card readers. We migrated from absolute manual forms of election to a little bit of technology being used. So we must give kudos to Attahiru Jega and Jonathan Goodluck for allowing that experiment to happen.

We can see from the card reader we now have the bimodal biometric access card rather than having Incident forms. Everything about manuals has been eliminated and that was tried in Anambra, Ekiti and Osun elections... Peter Obi’s popularity continues to grow at the tick of every second ahead of the 2023 election. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) enjoys massive fanbase on social media, particularly from the youths. For many Nigerian youths, it’s Obi for president in 2023 or nothing.

One of such staunch supporters of the former governor’s presidential bid is Chinedu Benjamin, a final-year medical student at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), and tipper driver from Enugu State.

He became a viral sensation On July 15th after inspiring the now-viral labour challenge in support of Obi’s response to Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who predicted that the Labour Party “will labour till death”.

Obi had in his response to Tinubu wrote: “there is dignity in labour”. As supporter of the ex-Anambra governor, Benjamin made a lemonade out of the response.

In this interview with CRISPNG, Benjamin reflects on his support for Obi’s presidential bid, inspiring #LabourChallenge and how he balances life as a medical student and tipper driver.

Atiku: Peter Obi’s LP Lacks Structure — Don’t Expect A Miracle In 2023

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed the chances of the Labour Party in the 2023 election.

“It is very difficult for a miracle to happen, simply because Peter Obi is in the Labour Party...Read more: https://www.crispng.com/atiku-peter-obis-lp-lacks-structure-dont-expect-a-miracle-in-2023/
