SportsRe: Nations Cup Qualifier: CAF Deducts 3 Points From Nigeria, Explains Why - CAF by jkarmstrong(m): 12:27pm On Mar 28, 2016
Guess its all over now? The most we can do is hope for the best. Defeating the Egyptians on their home turf while not being entirely impossible is clearly herculean. The team will have to show maturity and composure beyond their years. We must show strength and compactness. Anyway regardless of the result the team should stick together, the coaching staff and playing staff shouldn't be disbanded to begin another futile round of rebuilding. We must look to the future with this same group of coaches and playing staff.
SportsRe: Nigerians React To Super Eagles' 1 - 1 Draw With Egypt by jkarmstrong(m): 9:02pm On Mar 25, 2016
Two points dropped no questions. Our qualification is now at utmost risk. We have to get a result in Egypt. We were better all through. They rarely threatened us except with salah who gave the naija left full back a hiding. The goal the Egyptians scored was such a pity. It was only minutes left, and then they forgot all about fair play and sportsmanship. They should have given us the ball back after the throw in, their quick unsportsmanlike play caught our defence off guard. The referee saved us in the end. Salah was through on goal when he blew the whistle for game over, the Egyptians were outraged barely believing their ears. Till Cairo then. Hope we are luckier.

PoliticsRe: 'Those Calling For CBN Governor's Sack Are Palmwine Drinkers' - Gov. Oshiomhole by jkarmstrong(m): 4:01pm On Mar 24, 2016
Just like slapstick comedy the Nigerian political scene gets even more ridiculous the more attention you pay it. Adams oshiomole calling those who disagree with the CBN forex policy palm wine drinkers is another example of the ever flourishing comedy scene of the Nigerian political class. But sadly most of it is absurd, badly pitched jokes on our common intelligence; and serious thinkers are not laughing.

When did it become an offense to disagree with policy makers on the direction the country should be going? When did we stop accommodating politically relevant protestations, even those that manifests themselves as typical Nigerian calls for the simple solution of removing the ogà at the top in the misplaced hope that it would make everything, all our troubles, go away?

As far as I know we are still operating a democracy, and in democracies----even those far more rooted than ours---people call for the heads of those they feel are not handling public affairs competently. They are not palm wine drinkers, neither are they the derogatorily uttered speculators, they are honest and burdened Nigerians who are discontented and, aggrieved with the snail like way the economy is shaping up.

Adams oshiomole should not merely dismiss their concerns with unbridled political highhandedness and arrogance-----for a start eminent Nigerian economists are on their side-----but rather the ruling government and party, which he is part of, should admit their views, sincerely consider them, before doing what is in their own interpretation best for the country. Enough said.
NYSCRe: Wike Increases Rivers Corpers' Allowance by jkarmstrong(m): 8:18pm On Mar 23, 2016
Why does the governor's gesture feel awfully familiar? Typical naija office holder move: clear up the whole mess that could very much have been avoided with the usual 'we will take care of his family' proclamation, while contributing or doing nothing concrete about the entirely preventable outcome. Classic.

The problem is still out there---- whatever events that led to the death of this unfortunate corps member is still out there and may very well kill another hapless corps member while the governor goes about 'taking care' of their surviving relatives.

Not saying nothing should be done by way of compensation to those who have died in service, but there is something terribly de javu and self serving about all of these. We need to be looking at the root causes of things of these sort, and asking ourselves why corps members have to die in service so that politicians can claim the people's mandate for themselves.
