The Federal Government, Wednesday, granted Nigerian citizenship to 174 foreigners. Briefing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, said a breakdown of the applications submitted included those from 45 foreigners married to Nigerians, and 129 from persons that were born by naturalised Nigerians. Mr. Moro said another 27 applications were rejected and were not approved by FEC because “they did not meet the basic requirements of tax payment and ability to live their lives in Nigeria without being economic burdens and security problems. “A series of factors were taken into consideration, but much more importantly the issue of security that has become very serious consideration especially when foreigners from countries that are prone to violence, such as Lebanon and Syria, apply to become Nigerian citizens,” the minister said. The minister also criticised Nigerians who were losing faith in the country. “We are in this country losing some level of faith in the viability of Nigeria, on the brightness of the future of Nigeria given the level of potential that we have in this country today, by some Nigerians and cynics, especially opposition political parties or persons creating an impression that Nigeria is gravitating towards a failed state. “Yet we have foreigners who have very serious economic interest in Nigeria who have lived in this country, some since independence, who are eager to become Nigerian citizens by taking into consideration the economic viability and potential of Nigeria and hoping that their lives can better be lived in this country as Nigerian citizens than citizens of their countries,” he said. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/nigeria-grants-citizenship-174-foreigners/ |
Davido, the 'Omo baba olowo, is one artiste that has got lots of money to throw around. From having a rich dad to having a successful career, personal home, fleet of cars and lots of fans. In a recent interview with a national daily, speaks about his music career, competition in the music industry and his hit song 'skelewu'. See excerpts of the interview below: On competition in the music industry? "I'm not afraid of competition or the fact that some person will just appear on the scene and take the shine. After all, I did it to some people, so I expect that it is something that must happen to everyone because you can't be shining forever. But once you are good to others, make good music, have loyal fans, that's all that matters." On Wizkid being a threat or music rival? "Not at all. The rumour is cool. But I see nobody as competition or threat. God is behind me, so I just go into the studio, do my music and everything is fine. I develop and write most of my songs in the studio." On how much influence his father has had on his career? "Yes my father is rich, but the truth is some people only knew who he was after I released my song, 'Omo Baba Olowo'. I want people to know that the song was not a hit because of my father but because it was dope. I didn't sing 'OBO' because of my father's wealth contrary to what people think. My father and family always keep me grounded. They call me from time to time to ask about my welfare. My father actually visits all these blogs to read and see all my nonsense. Just like the typical Yoruba father, he scolds me and whenever he does that, I will say, 'Daddy cool down, what's going on, relax.' Although he is also very proud of me, he is scared and happy for me at the same time." On Skelewu? "The song is big already; so whatever we do people are still going to talk anyway. I shot the video like a movie and there are three videos, so people can watch whichever one they want. If you don't like the instructional video, you can watch Sesan's, if you don't like that one; you can watch Moe Musa's. If people want, I will shoot one more video, it's not easy." On Future plans? "I have plans to go into oil and gas business with my elder brother next year. I want to do music for 10 years. By that time, I will be 30, and free to rest. Some people are just starting out at 30 but I am already a success and threat at 20. Fame at a young age is a plus because I still have like 10 years to ball while some people are just starting at 27 and 30. www.informationng.com/2013/11/davido-planning-to-quit-music-for-oil-and-gas-business.html |

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday attributed the slow economic growth in the country to the numerous crises that trailed his administration since 2011. Jonathan stated this shortly after receiving the 2013 Africa Peace Award from the United Religions Initiatives (URI), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said that no nation could witness economic stability or internal democracy in an atmosphere of social unrest, saying that economic growth, development and stability were tied to political stability. According to him, no meaningful economic development can be recorded where people are fighting. "There cannot be economic development without peace. ''For you to develop economically, there must be peace and political stability. So, the leadership of African Union and ECOWAS have changed and we believe that we must help ourselves and help our states and govern our states the way they should be governed. If there are crises, we should intervene and that has been helping us significantly.'' While dedicating the award to all Nigerians, Jonathan promised to continue to play the role that would enhance peace and guarantee political stability in Nigeria. ''This award is dedicated to my people and my country, Nigeria. We couldn't have been qualified for this award if my people did not encourage me. ''We would continue to do our best. For me as an individual, I will continue to play my role in spite of the challenges. ''Let me use this unique opportunity to call on all Nigerians and all the people of the world to embrace peace. You cannot talk about development when you are fighting.'' Presenting the award to President Jonathan, the Regional Director of URI, Ambassador Mussie Hailu, said the award was in recognition of the President's immense contributions to religious harmony in Nigeria and peace keeping efforts across the world. ''We have been following with great interest the great role the President is playing in his country, West Africa and Africa as a whole since he took office as President of Nigeria. ''We commend his leadership qualities in West African sub region in particular when he was ECOWAS Chairman and also lauded the current Transformation Agenda of his administration. According to him, the award, which is non- monetary, is meant to honour people who have distinguished themselves and exhibited exceptional leadership qualities. Amongst the previous recipients of the award were the former Presidents of Mozambique, Joaquin Chissano, Girma Woldegiorgis of Ethiopia, Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Blaise Compaore of Burkina Faso. pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/10/30/jonathan-receives-2013-peace-award/ |
If there were a prize for Most Irresponsible Foreign Policy it would surely be awarded to Saudi Arabia. It is the nation most responsible for the rise of Islamic radicalism and militancy around the world. Over the past four decades, the kingdom's immense oil wealth has been used to underwrite the export of an extreme, intolerant and violent version of Islam preached by its Wahhabi clerics. Go anywhere in the world--from Germany to Indonesia--and you'll find Islamic centers flush with Saudi money, spouting intolerance and hate. In 2007, Stuart Levey, then a top Treasury official, told ABC News, "If I could snap my fingers and cut off the funding from one country, it would be Saudi Arabia." When confronted with the evidence, Saudi officials often claim these funds flow from private individuals and foundations and the government has no control over them. But many of the foundations were set up by the government or key members of the royal family, and none could operate in defiance of national policy; the country is an absolute monarchy. In a December 2009 cable, leaked by WikiLeaks in 2010, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed that Saudi Arabia remained a "critical financial base" for terrorism and that Riyadh "has taken only limited action" to stop the flow of funds to the Taliban and other such groups. http://content.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2156259,00.html |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday in Nazareth performed the symbolic candle lighting at the Church of Mount Camel, the place where the Biblical contest between Prophet Elijah and the 400 false prophets of Baal took place. The President also visited River Jordan, the place where Jesus Christ was Baptised by John the Baptist, where he prayed before dipping his hands seven times into the river. The News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the President and members of the Presidential Pilgrimage Team also visited the Church of Annunciation, otherwise known as Basillica of the Annunciation, the place where Angel Gabriel announced to Virgin Mary of her conception. Other places visited by the team were the Holy Family Church in Nazareth, the Cana Wedding Church in Galilee and also took a boat drive along the shores of the Sea of Galilee and visited the Mount of Beatitudes. The president had on the 2nd Day of the pilgrimage, visited the Jerusalem Old City, Pool of Bethesda, Wailing Wall, where he prayed privately, the Tomb of Jesus Christ where he also prayed after leading the Fourteen Stations of the Cross. Jonathan is expected to attend an inter- denominational prayer-fast on Sunday tagged ``A day with Jesus for Nigeria in Israel'', where he will meet with pilgrims from Nigeria. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/day-3-of-pilgrimage-president-jonathan-lights-symbolic-candle-at-mt-camel-visits-river-jordan/162787/ |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday in Jerusalem promised to stabilise Nigeria’s electoral process. Jonathan, who made the promise at an interdenominational service for 2013 Nigerian pilgrims, said that the current process was better than the previous ones. “We promise that we must do a number of things differently, we have challenges in our electoral system but at least it is better than what it was yesterday.” He said that although the country was experiencing challenges, Nigerians had been privileged to pray to God at this period. “Let me reassure you that even though our nation is passing through challenges this period, God has made it possible for us to pray at a period like this.’’ He decried the high level of vandalism of petroleum pipelines and electric poles by criminals in the country. The president said that his administration would continue to improve the living condition of Nigerians. He enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray for the country, saying that evil forces would never succeed in their evil ways. “I assure you that things will continue to improve for the better as Nigeria will no longer be the same.” He expressed gratitude for the Yitshak Rabin Family Award for Good Leadership, conferred on him and for the naming of the Yitshak Rabin School in Port Harcourt after him. Jonathan said that Nigeria and the state of Israel would continue to be friends. Mr Jonh-Kennedy Okpara, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, said that over 30,000 Nigerian pilgrims were currently transported to the Holy land annually, compared to 4,000 pilgrims transported five years ago. He advised pilgrims to see pilgrimage as a time for spiritual rebirth and a divine encounter with God. Mrs Josephine Zinder, President of Tailor Made Tours, said that the company had decorated 50,000 Nigerians as Jerusalem Pilgrims(JP) in the past seven years. Tailor Made Tours is an Israeli tour company, based in Tel Aviv. The high point of the occasion was the decoration of Jonathan with the JP title and the conferment of the Yitshak Rabin Award for Good Leadership Award on him. Other dignitaries, who were decorated with the JP title include Govs.Gabriel Suswam of Benue, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Liyel Imoke of Cross River and Jonah Jang of Plateau, among others. www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-promises-better-electoral-process/ |
Slave mentality like fela would say,but since non of us want to realize this is part of our problem we would continue to wallow in our ignorance, afterall you go mecca me go jerusalem, imagine the time and resources our people spend going to hajj and visit to jerusalem no need to ask why we remain poor.#slave mentality. |
alj harem: BTW Jking is NOT ITSEKIRI BUT AN IGBO PERSON. I have no doubt in my mind on that.We know ourselves i don't need to prove to you on nairaland that am one because its not necessary and would not change anything. |

We know ourselves i don't need to prove to you on nairaland that am one because its not necessary and would not change anything. |
CyberG: Do you understand at all? You still mention INDEPENDENT STATE from what or where? Did I not point out that the plan of the conference has NOT said anything about creating sovereign countries, so where or how do you get this idea or are you GEJ because the GEJ who is president today says he want to make Nigeria stronger with this conference! Stop holding this kind of debate down with a point of view that is not within the terms of reference! The plan is to restructure along current zones of which every part of Nigeria at least those that falls along border areas of the zones can choose to go with one or the other - tell me you understand that? You have a choice of at most 6 NOT 1,000 regions or states! Tell me you understand that because even a small kid knows you can only buy something that is available in the store you are currently in.Okay ,you win i get your point hope to sell it to my brothers, now i can join this cause, after critical analysis i concluded the that the op's cause is a better option for us. |
johndwayy: THE ITSEKIRIS WILL NEVER TEAMUP WITH ANY GADEMM frraud called southsouth,we are better of with our Yoruba,Illaje,Edo brothers,.....together we will form, a better, more educated, prolific southwest..Omemi its vision we should position ourselves well in such a way that we are no minority again in this joke called nigeria, I think we can stand out tall we have the bargaing chip here, we need our independent state yes yoruba our brothers and friends should help us fight for our state instead of saying we should go with them if we don't do this thing no we would live to regret it . Am praying we don't go down as one of the poorest tribes who once had oil,we are no minority in south south block so you have to consider that when you say we should pull out and go with the yorubas and be miniority my brother no sentiments here anything that would favor the itsekiri where we can stand out on our own is what i advocate, if lagos can claim land from the sea to make lagos bigger what's stopping us that have part of the oil used in running this country called nigeria. |
kingoflag: Are you sure youre itshekiri? No am yoruba from aja ogbugbu koko warri north. |
ijaw citizen: Why is it that it is only the Itsekiris in collaboration with their new Yoruba masters that are creating the impression that Niger Delta are at war with themselves? One word delusional..where is the ijaw land?koko or ode itsekiri (big warri) or our islands or is it warri south you want to claim you must be joking even with your wars and your so called population we still dominate and hold on strong to our lands in warri without help from any foreign power. if this is the intention of the ijaw nation or postion for holding the conference then they would fail, you think we would not mark out our lands and territories ?I think you must be joking, you guys can never claim any piece of itsekiri land, i repeat never,or you think there would be no agreement ? if you are educated you would understand what it mean to have a national conference or a sovereign one,the result at the end of the conference would produce agreements which would be acceptable to all and signed like a pact. infact why am i educating you mind you my people would never enter into an agreement that would not favor them talk more of this crap agreement placed on nairaland. Use google to know about your history in warri and the history of warri as a whole, itsekiri have no master we have fought to defend our land by ourselves ,history would never lie ,so i urge you to google Nana Olomu (1852–1916) so you would know how far we have been defending ourselves, interest and lands, history would tell you more, for your information warri is ours if you don't like to go and hang. What's the ijaw population in warri? Go ask the uhrobo we sold most of our lands to you guys people blame alfred rewane of blessed memory for selling out the lands but i always tell them no that's wrong we are accomodating in nature and we can't change that ,its how God has made us we know this and you can't take advantage of our warn kindness because we know better now, we have but one king the olu of warri, with a rich history and you guys can't stop us , why would i even join words with someone who's not englightened enough to know his history in warri, for the records we fight our wars ourself .....we are not scared and you guys know it we all die together if that what you cowards want no inch of itsekiri land can be take by force i rest my case. |
sandijey: Some of us bear oluwa like me! Oluwaseyi or oluwasheyi!Omemi you are not yoruba and you can never be one ,fine you bear oluwaseyi its just few of us we should look inward and stop looking up to other people to help us as it would only limit us if we do that, our destiny should not be determined by anyone we are different we are Iwere. |
We have itsekiri in about 4 state we big enough to have a state. |
0lumide: Why do Itsekirirs have Yoruba names again?Yes we bear yoruba names,so it means nothing we know where we belong in the scheme of things and its few yoruba names not all very few yoruba names,we more of oritse than oluwa in our names.example ortisetimeyin... |
CyberG: It seems you are incapable of being educated. Where IN ALL THESE IS INDEPENDENCE? Are you reading something else that GEJ has not spoken about? Snap out of your delusion, there is no talk of any sovereign countries so far in all GEJ has said, go and read again!Chairman mr know it all,i think on the contrary its you who's incapable of been enlightened,i said if you read my first post, and its still there and its visibly for anyone to see,and it says “IF“ there's a south south region we would rather go with them,i used the word " IF" just like we had midwest and bendel state we can have our own arrangement,i only talked about small countries to let people know that been a minority is not an excuse for weakness,we would rather welcome friends that would join our course if the ijaws can do it whats our excuse of remaining a weakly ,you know there is an ijaw state in nigeria,i think we should be fighting for an itsekiri state ,and for your information there's the possibility of a south south regional block ,that's my take. |
CyberG: If you read this, note that the conference will NOT be creating any independent countries - go and read what GEJ has said again! I am at work now and have no time to be digging through threads / news. He said the conference is to make the country stronger, more united, etc so any talks of fighting for independence does not arise except of course you know something about the conference that GEJ is not saying.Like i said in my first post if there's a south south we would rather remain in it we already have a voice there after the uhrobos we are the 2nd largest ethnic group all we have to do is fight for ourselves and land we can actually develop the itsekiri land and make it viable if you have the opportunity to be independent would you refuse it?my guess is no,so why go with yoruba when we can be on our own. |
Yoruba is not even claiming anyone. There is a commonwealth......all who want are welcome to join it. Ibos are stressed because the sections they claim as Ibolands and their people have refused to be labeled Ibo. Yoruba does not have that problem, although Ibo wish we did. Itsekiri has been part of MidWest, then SS, yet they identify as a Yoruba group on their cultural websites, in wiki, on fb....they can stand on their own and still be respected but they have expressed interest in the commonwealth and in fact are expecting to join the DAWN initiative. There is no hope in the Eastern corridor. No market diversity - everything in that direction is locked down under Ibo monopoly. The market is terminal. The Western market on the other hand is an endless penetration of multi culturalism and open entry.....from Yorubaland all along the coast to Bambaraland
Nobody can love the itsekiris more than the itsekiris themselves we can be on our own and still have affliation with the yoruba state, they should rather help us fight for our independence that's what american would do that's a better way to play the politics we should have terms we agree on and we fight together for an independent itsekiri land, there are smaller countries with fewer population than the itsekiri people who have their capital in KOKO warri north. |
This is exactly what each ethnic should be saying. Taking the bull by the horns and charting its own destiny.
I was watching ibero american summit conferences and discovered the former spanish colony were giving spain condition to work with spain, now that's what i call civilized mutual respect, same goes for china and asean countries we can work together on mutual respect, that's why i like the americans they help you gain independence and thereby gain your trust that's what the yorubas should do for any tribe they claim to have links with in nigeria, wen ijaw and itsekiri dey fight we no hear all this kind talk ooo why now ? |
ALTRUTH: Hehehe, which yoruba are u talking about? Wen dis gbege starts, nt jst itsekiri land, even d yorubas will abandon Lagos nd flee in droves to cotononou. Better start learning french. Nuff said.Bros take am easy e neva start u don dey rake nobody has the monopoly of violence, isreal small for middle east but other countries dey fear dem'no body i repeat nobody has the monopoly of violence. |
Good move if implememted, kudos to the technocrats,i wish our activicts can look into relevant issues like this one, wish everyone one can voice out their support for this good move,if wishes were horses. |
I C Iwere people talking codedly here mo kin ahan, oton olu... |

People are making history and getting better lifes for themselves we are thinking of going woth the nigerian people why have half when you can have everything ''FEAR ''. http://geography.about.com/cs/countries/a/smallcountries.htm |
sandijey: Mr, that one too dey! Everybody wants the better option. But if u know south-south well, u will no that there Is serious crisis brewing in that region. I personally would advse the igbos there to just follow the east. The people of the niger delta are not united o. Don't be decieved. If u hear what an uhrobo man would say about an ijaw man, the venom he spits will pierce through your skin. Infact south south can break into 4 or 3 other nations if care is not taken. As well as the east anambra can decide to be on their own because they believe they are the most superior igbos. The country breaking up is very complex. If only we were brave enough to cause a revolution and remain one.Chairman the case of warri has been historical this people have lived together in the past with and without blooshed, the most important thing is the ability of each man to defend himself properly we have no choice, rather than be a slave that would still be plagued with communal clashes i would rather be a king and loose my life in the process. |
Itsekiri your best choice would be to go with the south south else you be used by your so called brothers its better to know your enemy than having an enemy within, if you can team up with the ilaje and have a bigger voice in the new south south better. |
Good one,right thinking... |
