PoliticsNigeria Grants Citizenship To 174 Foreigners by jking001(op): 11:30am On Nov 07, 2013
The Federal Government, Wednesday, granted
Nigerian citizenship to 174 foreigners.
Briefing journalists after the weekly meeting of the
Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, chaired by
President Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of
Interior, Abba Moro, said a breakdown of the
applications submitted included those from 45
foreigners married to Nigerians, and 129 from
persons that were born by naturalised Nigerians.
Mr. Moro said another 27 applications were rejected
and were not approved by FEC because “they did
not meet the basic requirements of tax payment
and ability to live their lives in Nigeria without
being economic burdens and security problems.
“A series of factors were taken into consideration,
but much more importantly the issue of security
that has become very serious consideration
especially when foreigners from countries that are
prone to violence, such as Lebanon and Syria, apply
to become Nigerian citizens,” the minister said.
The minister also criticised Nigerians who were
losing faith in the country.
“We are in this country losing some level of faith in
the viability of Nigeria, on the brightness of the
future of Nigeria given the level of potential that we
have in this country today, by some Nigerians and
cynics, especially opposition political parties or
persons creating an impression that Nigeria is
gravitating towards a failed state.
“Yet we have foreigners who have very serious
economic interest in Nigeria who have lived in this
country, some since independence, who are eager
to become Nigerian citizens by taking into
consideration the economic viability and potential
of Nigeria and hoping that their lives can better be
lived in this country as Nigerian citizens than
citizens of their countries,” he said.

EntertainmentI Will Quit Music For Oil And Gas Business - Davido by jking001(op): 2:14pm On Nov 02, 2013
Davido, the 'Omo baba olowo, is one artiste
that has got lots of money to throw around.
From having a rich dad to having a successful
career, personal home, fleet of cars and lots
of fans. In a recent
interview with a national daily, speaks about his
music career, competition in the music industry and
his hit song 'skelewu'.
See excerpts of the interview below:
On competition in the music industry?
"I'm not afraid of competition or the fact that some
person will just appear on the scene and take the
shine. After all, I did it to some people, so I expect
that it is something that must happen to everyone
because you can't be shining forever. But once you
are good to others, make good music, have loyal
fans, that's all that matters."
On Wizkid being a threat or music rival?
"Not at all. The rumour is cool. But I see nobody as
competition or threat. God is behind me, so I just go
into the studio, do my music and everything is fine.
I develop and write most of my songs in the studio."
On how much influence his father has had on
his career?
"Yes my father is rich, but the truth is some people
only knew who he was after I released my song,
'Omo Baba Olowo'. I want people to know that the
song was not a hit because of my father but
because it was dope. I didn't sing 'OBO' because of
my father's wealth contrary to what people think.
My father and family always keep me grounded.
They call me from time to time to ask about my
welfare. My father actually visits all these blogs to
read and see all my nonsense. Just like the typical
Yoruba father, he scolds me and whenever he does
that, I will say, 'Daddy cool down, what's going on,
relax.' Although he is also very proud of me, he is
scared and happy for me at the same time."
On Skelewu?
"The song is big already; so whatever we do people
are still going to talk anyway. I shot the video like a
movie and there are three videos, so people can
watch whichever one they want. If you don't like the
instructional video, you can watch Sesan's, if you
don't like that one; you can watch Moe Musa's. If
people want, I will shoot one more video, it's not
easy."
On Future plans?
"I have plans to go into oil and gas business with
my elder brother next year. I want to do music for
10 years. By that time, I will be 30, and free to rest.
Some people are just starting out at 30 but I am
already a success and threat at 20. Fame at a young
age is a plus because I still have like 10 years to
ball while some people are just starting at 27 and 30.

PoliticsJonathan To Sack Ministers With Governorship Aspirations by jking001(op): 5:45am On Nov 02, 2013
At least eight ministers, who are expected to pursue their goals to become governors, will soon be relieved of their jobs, THISDAY learnt Thursday.

The eight ministers to be affected by the exercise, which a presidency source said might start this month, are from seven states, with Benue State accounting for two of the ministers.

The source said the decision to sack the ministers with governorship aspirations is partly responsible for the delay in filling the vacant ministerial positions that have been open since nine ministers were sacked in September.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on September 11 sacked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru and his counterparts in the Ministry of Education, Prof. Ruqqayatu Rufa'i; National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman; Land and Urban Development, Ms. Ama Pepple; Environment, Mrs. Hadiza Mailafia and Science and Technology, Prof. Ita Ewa.

Three Ministers of State, Mrs. Olusola Obada (Defence), Zainab Kuchi (Power) and Alhaji Tijani Bukar (Agriculture) also lost their jobs in the cabinet shake-up. So far, there have been no replacements of the affected ministers.
In 2012, Dr. Haliru Mohammed Bello, was sacked as the Minister of Defence and later, the then Minister of Youth Development, Alhaji Inua Abdulkadir, was dropped from the cabinet in August 2013.

The gale of sack in the cabinet has left the Federal Executive Council (FEC) with 11 members as substantive ministers, some of whom were appointed as supervising ministers for ministries without substantive heads.
THISDAY gathered that one of the ministers with governorship ambition who will be relieved of his job will be Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd), who is from Ekiti State.

Olubolade is one of the many aspirants jockeying to fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for the second quarter of 2014.

Top politicians in the state like Senator Gbenga Aluko and Mr. Ayo Fayose, among others have also indicated interest in wresting power from the incumbent, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was also gathered the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, has also indicated his interest to quit the cabinet but has been asked to wait.

He is seen as a top contender for the PDP governorship ticket in Bauchi State for the 2015 election.
Posters and billboards announcing his ambition are a common sight in the state.

Other ministers with governorship aspirations that may go, THISDAY was told, include Minister of Information and supervising Minister of Defence, Mr. Labaran Maku.

Maku, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State from 2003 to 2007, is seeking to fly the PDP flag in the 2015 general election to slug it out with Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura of the APC, who is the current helmsman in the state.

Another minister that may be dropped is the Minister of Niger Delta, Mr. Godsday Orubebe, who is seeking to succeed Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of the PDP in 2015.

Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Yerima Ngama, who is seeking to be Yobe State Governor in 2015, may also be affected. The state, which was being ruled by the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), is now under the APC following the merger of leading opposition parties that gave birth to the new party.

If the president goes ahead with his decision to drop ministers with governorship aspirations, two representatives of Benue State in the cabinet – Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro and the Minister of State, Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom – who are also desirous of taking a shot at the Government House, might be dropped.

Moro was the campaign manager to Senate President David Mark, when he was campaigning for re-election as a senator in 2011.

The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, from Abia State, may also be affected.
According to the source, “The president is planning to relieve all the ministers, who have governorship aspiration of their jobs to enable his administration concentrate on the last leg of his transformation agenda without any distraction.

“You know that 2014 is the determining year for the president and therefore, he is going to relieve the ministers that have indicated interest to contest the governorship election in their respective states, in order to concentrate with the transformation in 2014.”

PoliticsJonathan Receives 2013 Peace Award by jking001(op): 3:42pm On Oct 31, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday
attributed the slow economic growth in the
country to the numerous crises that trailed
his administration since 2011. Jonathan
stated this shortly after receiving
the 2013 Africa Peace Award from the United
Religions Initiatives (URI), at the Presidential Villa,
Abuja.
He said that no nation could witness economic
stability or internal democracy in an atmosphere of
social unrest, saying that economic growth,
development and stability were tied to political
stability.
According to him, no meaningful economic
development can be recorded where people are
fighting.
"There cannot be economic development without
peace.
''For you to develop economically, there must be
peace and political stability. So, the leadership of
African Union and ECOWAS have changed and we
believe that we must help ourselves and help our
states and govern our states the way they should be
governed. If there are crises, we should intervene
and that has been helping us significantly.''
While dedicating the award to all Nigerians,
Jonathan promised to continue to play the role that
would enhance peace and guarantee political
stability in Nigeria.
''This award is dedicated to my people and my
country, Nigeria. We couldn't have been qualified
for this award if my people did not encourage me.
''We would continue to do our best. For me as an
individual, I will continue to play my role in spite of
the challenges.
''Let me use this unique opportunity to call on all
Nigerians and all the people of the world to
embrace peace. You cannot talk about development
when you are fighting.''
Presenting the award to President Jonathan, the
Regional Director of URI, Ambassador Mussie Hailu,
said the award was in recognition of the President's
immense contributions to religious harmony in
Nigeria and peace keeping efforts across the world.
''We have been following with great interest the
great role the President is playing in his country,
West Africa and Africa as a whole since he took
office as President of Nigeria.
''We commend his leadership qualities in West
African sub region in particular when he was
ECOWAS Chairman and also lauded the current
Transformation Agenda of his administration.
According to him, the award, which is non-
monetary, is meant to honour people who have
distinguished themselves and exhibited exceptional
leadership qualities.
Amongst the previous recipients of the award were
the former Presidents of Mozambique, Joaquin
Chissano, Girma Woldegiorgis of Ethiopia, Paul
Kagame of Rwanda and Blaise Compaore of Burkina
Faso.

Foreign AffairsPrize For Most Irresponsible Foreign Policy Awarded To Saudi Arabia by jking001(op): 3:21pm On Oct 31, 2013
If there were a prize for Most Irresponsible Foreign Policy it would surely be awarded to Saudi Arabia. It is the nation most responsible for the rise of Islamic radicalism and militancy around the world. Over the past four decades, the kingdom's immense oil wealth has been used to underwrite the export of an extreme, intolerant and violent version of Islam preached by its Wahhabi clerics.

Go anywhere in the world--from Germany to Indonesia--and you'll find Islamic centers flush with Saudi money, spouting intolerance and hate. In 2007, Stuart Levey, then a top Treasury official, told ABC News, "If I could snap my fingers and cut off the funding from one country, it would be Saudi Arabia." When confronted with the evidence, Saudi officials often claim these funds flow from private individuals and foundations and the government has no control over them. But many of the foundations were set up by the government or key members of the royal family, and none could operate in defiance of national policy; the country is an absolute monarchy. In a December 2009 cable, leaked by WikiLeaks in 2010, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed that Saudi Arabia remained a "critical financial base" for terrorism and that Riyadh "has taken only limited action" to stop the flow of funds to the Taliban and other such groups.

PoliticsJonathan Promises Better Electoral Process by jking001(op): 8:12am On Oct 29, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday in
Jerusalem promised to stabilise Nigeria’s electoral
process.
Jonathan, who made the promise at an
interdenominational service for 2013 Nigerian
pilgrims, said that the current process was better
than the previous ones.
“We promise that we must do a number of things
differently, we have challenges in our electoral
system but at least it is better than what it was
yesterday.”
He said that although the country was experiencing
challenges, Nigerians had been privileged to pray to
God at this period.
“Let me reassure you that even though our nation is
passing through challenges this period, God has
made it possible for us to pray at a period like
this.’’
He decried the high level of vandalism of petroleum
pipelines and electric poles by criminals in the
country.
The president said that his administration would
continue to improve the living condition of
Nigerians.
He enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray for the
country, saying that evil forces would never
succeed in their evil ways.
“I assure you that things will continue to improve
for the better as Nigeria will no longer be the
same.”
He expressed gratitude for the Yitshak Rabin Family
Award for Good Leadership, conferred on him and
for the naming of the Yitshak Rabin School in Port
Harcourt after him.
Jonathan said that Nigeria and the state of Israel
would continue to be friends.
Mr Jonh-Kennedy Okpara, Executive Secretary of
the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, said
that over 30,000 Nigerian pilgrims were currently
transported to the Holy land annually, compared to
4,000 pilgrims transported five years ago.
He advised pilgrims to see pilgrimage as a time for
spiritual rebirth and a divine encounter with God.
Mrs Josephine Zinder, President of Tailor Made
Tours, said that the company had decorated 50,000
Nigerians as Jerusalem Pilgrims(JP) in the past
seven years.
Tailor Made Tours is an Israeli tour company, based
in Tel Aviv.

of Jonathan with the JP title and the conferment of
the Yitshak Rabin Award for Good Leadership Award
on him.
Other dignitaries, who were decorated with the JP
title include Govs.Gabriel Suswam of Benue,
Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Liyel Imoke of Cross
River and Jonah Jang of Plateau, among others.

CyberG: Do you understand at all? You still mention INDEPENDENT STATE from what or where? Did I not point out that the plan of the conference has NOT said anything about creating sovereign countries, so where or how do you get this idea or are you GEJ because the GEJ who is president today says he want to make Nigeria stronger with this conference! Stop holding this kind of debate down with a point of view that is not within the terms of reference! The plan is to restructure along current zones of which every part of Nigeria at least those that falls along border areas of the zones can choose to go with one or the other - tell me you understand that? You have a choice of at most 6 NOT 1,000 regions or states! Tell me you understand that because even a small kid knows you can only buy something that is available in the store you are currently in.

Now, PLEASE stop this talk of minority with the Yorubas because you seem to have been poisoned by this kind of useless talk from some parts of Nigeria. The Yorubas and Itshekiri groups who are already collaborating are not thinking about majority - minority but as equal partners or did you not read that the region will have the chance to create its states, so it's not a case of having one massive region in which there is no local administration close to the people.

One more last thing: if a man can thrive in an unworkable and difficult system, imagine what he can do in a system built for success of all. That is why struggling Nigerians when they get to a place like America seem almost unstoppable. My point? The current Yoruba states are all firing on virtually on all their economic cyclinders right now - something no other part of the country is doing and I am not talking about just constructing roads and bridges! I am not even talking about Lagos alone just in case you are thinking it's Lagos, head over to Ibadan and Ogun state and see what is going on there. In order for us to prosper in the new Western Region, it is NOT the oil in Any part of Nigeria that will be required but good visionary leadership first and a highly trained, mobile workforce! That is something no natural resource will ever match because Nigeria as it is has more oil than any individual region but has Nigeria blazed the trail in spite of that as a country? Please use your critical thinking and analytic skills, don't just write from emotions. The Yorubas have learned and should have learned from their mistakes as a whole since the 1800s when the Oyo Empire finally declined and they have lost a lot of their brothers and sisters and territory which was so vast, it was difficult to protect it as far west of current country of Togo or thereabout. Think big, don't think "I alone before others".
Okay ,you win i get your point hope to sell it to my brothers, now i can join this cause, after critical analysis i concluded the that the op's cause is a better option for us.

ijaw citizen: Why is it that it is only the Itsekiris in collaboration with their new Yoruba masters that are creating the impression that Niger Delta are at war with themselves?

Within the Urhobos, Isokos, Ogoni, Ibibio-Efik-Calabar cluster and the Ijaw aborigines, is anyone at war?

It is only the ungrateful Itsekiris whom the Ijaw and Urhobo have helped to survive all along that are tagging their benefactors and landlords as tenants- Edo people initiated the idea though. This whole land grabbing nonsense sound funny too because it like a thief accusing his victims as thieves. We Ijaw have the history and origins of all Niger Delta/SS people at our fingertips.

Before now, you've pitched tents with your fellow Bini land-grabbers to tag Ijaws "nomadic fishermen, migrants,& squatters", it crumbled. Now it is with Yoruba, exellent choice! They have enough land mass to accomodate your less that 1 million population.

The Yorubas have used their media power to create an impression that Ijaws are claiming peoples' lands but knowledgable people now know otherwise.

Igbos are not helping matters too, as they are one of the people claiming ND will be on fire because of Ijaw imaginary "land-grabbing agenda". Yet they are fighting a lost battled to ressurrect the dead & buried Eastern Region by bargaining support for President Jonathan for the unification of SS & SE.

Itsekiris have pitched their tent with Yorubas, Igbos please leave them alone. If any problems arise from their decision, its gonna be a ND problem so Igbos back off with your vile & venom. We in the Niger Delta are prepared for this moment because History is gonna vindicate the Ijaws as the aborigenes of the Niger Delta.

You Igbos should forget about annexing ND with your SE under any scheme you can think of, and focus your energy on bringing Ikwerre, Ika and other of your so-called kiths & kins under Igbo rule in your new SE region which would emerge from the conference. Your quest to re-annex ND to form another Eastern Region is a failure already, force of arms failed earlier, your absurd bargaining will fail too.

Niger Deltans, we are UNITED against the two evil horns (Easterners & Westerners) bent on causing discord amongst us and annexing our territory. Itsekiris will soon pack out to join their Yoruba masters.

Long Live the Ijaw nation,
Long Live the Urhobo-Isoko nation,
Long Live the Ogoni nation,
Long Live the "Calabar" nation,

Long Live the New Niger Delta region!!
One word delusional..where is the ijaw land?koko or ode itsekiri (big warri) or our islands or is it warri south you want to claim you must be joking even with your wars and your so called population we still dominate and hold on strong to our lands in warri without help from any foreign power.

if this is the intention of the ijaw nation or postion for holding the conference then they would fail, you think we would not mark out our lands and territories ?I think you must be joking, you guys can never claim any piece of itsekiri land, i repeat never,or you think there would be no agreement ? if you are educated you would understand what it mean to have a national conference or a sovereign one,the result at the end of the conference would produce agreements which would be acceptable to all and signed like a pact.

infact why am i educating you mind you my people would never enter into an agreement that would not favor them talk more of this crap agreement placed on nairaland.

Use google to know about your history in warri and the history of warri as a whole, itsekiri have no master we have fought to defend our land by ourselves ,history would never lie ,so i urge you to google Nana Olomu (1852–1916) so you would know how far we have been defending ourselves, interest and lands, history would tell you more, for your information warri is ours if you don't like to go and hang.

What's the ijaw population in warri? Go ask the uhrobo we sold most of our lands to you guys people blame alfred rewane of blessed memory for selling out the lands but i always tell them no that's wrong we are accomodating in nature and we can't change that ,its how God has made us we know this and you can't take advantage of our warn kindness because we know better now, we have but one king the olu of warri, with a rich history and you guys can't stop us , why would i even join words with someone who's not englightened enough to know his history in warri, for the records we fight our wars ourself .....we are not scared and you guys know it we all die together if that what you cowards want no inch of itsekiri land can be take by force i rest my case.

PoliticsRe: Submission Of Yoruba/itsekiri Groups To The Committee On National Conference by jking001(m): 5:58pm On Oct 22, 2013
CyberG: If you read this, note that the conference will NOT be creating any independent countries - go and read what GEJ has said again! I am at work now and have no time to be digging through threads / news. He said the conference is to make the country stronger, more united, etc so any talks of fighting for independence does not arise except of course you know something about the conference that GEJ is not saying.

In the immediate and long terms analysis, REGIONALISM is what is more likely and better than our current system and the closest to "independence". If you read well, you will notice that the baseline is division along the CURRENT geopolitical ZONES in Nigeria. So, you will have a choice to be in only 6 possible ZONES, not a 1,000 zones! Within that 6, you can decide where you think your interests lie, where you have language and cultural ties, where the economic prospects and future good will of yourself and people are best protected and represented. When you get to this point, you know you are on the path for a reasoned, intellectual approach to the matter. Now, be sure that the Yorubas (Omo Oduduwa) know themselves just like you know the children of your parents (your brothers and sisters) and we ideally know that our interest is protected together, we all ultimately want the same things as human beings first - food, shelter and clothing! Then, you can add the rest, economic prosperity, peace, freedom, opportunities for yourseld and children, an organized society, etc. By far and ahead of all the other parts of Nigeria, the Western Region will BE AHEAD of ALL OTHER REGIONS on DAY ONE and it will only get better in as much as we continue to insist on the best leaders who will then be much closer to us and we can see what they are doing. Of course, if a community that falls within the borders of the Yorubas and another region has loyalty elsewhere, I strongly support that they go to where their loyalty lies.

The Yorubas are already the SECOND LARGEST people in Nigeria with 6 SOLID states, parts of Kogi and Kwara states and whoever want to go elsewhere can surely do that so I see no need to threaten anyone because chances are that in the future, the Commonwealth of the Yorubas will also have to agree to allow any other parts of the bordering communities that go elsewhere today to join them tomorrow when they are better off - just like the EU.
Like i said in my first post if there's a south south we would rather remain in it we already have a voice there after the uhrobos we are the 2nd largest ethnic group all we have to do is fight for ourselves and land we can actually develop the itsekiri land and make it viable if you have the opportunity to be independent would you refuse it?my guess is no,so why go with yoruba when we can be on our own.
Yoruba is not even claiming anyone.

There is a commonwealth......all who want are welcome to join it.

Ibos are stressed because the sections they claim as Ibolands and their people have refused to be labeled Ibo.

Yoruba does not have that problem, although Ibo wish we did. Itsekiri has been part of MidWest, then SS, yet they identify as a Yoruba group on their cultural websites, in wiki, on fb....they can stand on their own and still be respected but they have expressed interest in the commonwealth and in fact are expecting to join the DAWN initiative.

There is no hope in the Eastern corridor. No market diversity - everything in that direction is locked down under Ibo monopoly. The market is terminal.

The Western market on the other hand is an endless penetration of multi culturalism and open entry.....from Yorubaland all along the coast to Bambaraland
Nobody can love the itsekiris more than the itsekiris themselves we can be on our own and still have affliation with the yoruba state, they should rather help us fight for our independence that's what american would do that's a better way to play the politics we should have terms we agree on and we fight together for an independent itsekiri land, there are smaller countries with fewer population than the itsekiri people who have their capital in KOKO warri north.
This is exactly what each ethnic should be saying. Taking the bull by the horns and charting its own destiny.
I was watching ibero american summit conferences and discovered the former spanish colony were giving spain condition to work with spain, now that's what i call civilized mutual respect, same goes for china and asean countries we can work together on mutual respect, that's why i like the americans they help you gain independence and thereby gain your trust that's what the yorubas should do for any tribe they claim to have links with in nigeria, wen ijaw and itsekiri dey fight we no hear all this kind talk ooo why now ?

sandijey: Mr, that one too dey! Everybody wants the better option. But if u know south-south well, u will no that there Is serious crisis brewing in that region. I personally would advse the igbos there to just follow the east. The people of the niger delta are not united o. Don't be decieved. If u hear what an uhrobo man would say about an ijaw man, the venom he spits will pierce through your skin. Infact south south can break into 4 or 3 other nations if care is not taken. As well as the east anambra can decide to be on their own because they believe they are the most superior igbos. The country breaking up is very complex. If only we were brave enough to cause a revolution and remain one.
Chairman the case of warri has been historical this people have lived together in the past with and without blooshed, the most important thing is the ability of each man to defend himself properly we have no choice, rather than be a slave that would still be plagued with communal clashes i would rather be a king and loose my life in the process.

Itsekiri your best choice would be to go with the south south else you be used by your so called brothers its better to know your enemy than having an enemy within, if you can team up with the ilaje and have a bigger voice in the new south south better.
