I've been with both animals and I can confidently tell you that a cat us way more neater than a dog. To your third question, yes... cats answer to their name if you train them from a tender age to do so. To the OP's question, if you've got the time, I would advise you to go for a dog, but if time isn't a friend of yours, then get a cat.
