THE Federal Government has listed Kwara State as one of the probable high risk states to be affected by flood in 2020. This is as the apex government began the distribution of 25,265 NPK fertilizer to farmers affected by flooding in the state in 2018. The distribution was flagged-off by Mrs Sadiya Umar-Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development on Friday. Umar-Farouk, who was represented by the Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency, AVM Muhammadu Mohammed (retd.), said the fertilizer distribution was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. She explained that the approval was given under the Emergency Agricultural Intervention Programme to farmers affected by conflicts and flood in 2018. The minister said the exercise was the final phase of the Federal Government’s assistance to farmers to enable them to recover the losses suffered during the flood. “After verification, 3,468 farmers were given various farm inputs. The total quantity of NPK fertilizer required after verification of the flood to the affected farmers is 25,265 bags of 50kg, which have been delivered to the state,” she said. The minister, however, stated that the annual flood outlook for 2020 had predicted Kwara to be among the highly probable flood risk states, saying, “Hence the need for the state government to take proactive measures to address the issue. In his address, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commended the Federal Government for the symbolic flag-off of distribution of fertilizer to farmers in the three local government areas. https://punchng.com/flood-fg-lists-kwara-among-high-risk-states/?amp=1&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&__twitter_impression=true |
Raphael Ede, Enugu The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said it is working with other geopolitical zones for the realisation of the Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023. The National Publicity Secretary, of the organisation, Uche Achi-Okpaga, said this in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday. Speaking about the desire of the Ndi’igbo for a President of Igbo extraction by 2023, he said, “The presidency of Nigeria, no doubt, is not what a particular tribe or geopolitical zone can aspire to get without reaching out to other zones.” Achi-Okpaga further said, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide under the leadership of Chief Nnia Nwodo has been able to bridge the supposed gap between the South-East and other geopolitical zones. Since 2017 when the present NEC was inaugurated, we have reached out appreciably. “Today, Ohanaeze, Afenifere, PANDEF and Middle Belt Forum speak with one voice on all contemporary and emerging national issues. In many fora, Ohanaeze has demonstrated her capacity to galvanise these other bodies representing their respective geopolitical zones to reach a consensus.” https://punchng.com/no-region-can-produce-nigerias-president-alone-ohanaeze/?amp=1&utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&__twitter_impression=true Copyright PUNCH. |
PublishedJuly 6, 2020 Obadiah Mailafia About a fortnight ago, we received the shocking news that the Nigerian High Commission staff buildings in Accra were levelled to the ground by a Ghanaian businessman, claiming that the edifice had been erected on his own land. He brought papers claiming ownership of the land. Apparently, our legation could not show proof of ownership — a big embarrassment. Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama, issued a press statement saying that the demolition was the handiwork of criminals. Many Nigerians have been understandably outraged. Many have called for retaliation in kind. However, the Presidency tersely maintains that they would not be starting a “street fight” with Ghana. I commend them for that maturity. Nigeria and Ghana are, in a manner of speaking, twins. Ghana is the older of the two, having got its independence from Britain in March 1957 while we got ours three years later, in October 1960. It is one of the quirks of nature that the elder of most twins tends to be the smaller in build. Therein lies the seeds of sibling rivalry. The roots of our rivalry go back to colonial times. The British imperialists recruited mercenaries from Nigeria to help them “pacify” the unruly principalities of the Gold Coast, including the capture and public execution of the brave female warlord, Yaa Asantewaa. Ghana had all the gold. Nigeria was a vast backwater. The British were prepared to train some of the sons and daughters of the Akan royalty to become subaltern administrators. They built top-ranking schools such as Achimota, Wesley Girls, Adisadel and Mfantsipim. Their Nigerian counterparts, such as King’s College, Queen’s, Hope Wadell, Christ the King Onitsha, Dennis Memorial, Igbobi, and Barewa College look like provincial trade schools. The Gold Coast was well ahead of Nigeria in most indices of development. It had probably the best civil service on the continent. In 1945, a British government impoverished by war, resorted to borrowing from the Ghanaian treasury. At independence, Ghana was more prosperous than South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia. Interestingly, Nigeria played an important role in the career and destiny of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah. Nkrumah was inspired by the example of Nnamdi Azikiwe to pursue the so-called Golden Fleece in the United States. Nkrumah spent several months with his cousin in Lagos before gathering enough money to sail to the United States. He attended the same Lincoln University in Pennsylvania that Zik had attended a decade earlier. Nkrumah was, without a doubt, the greatest pan-Africanist of his generation. His place in history is assured. At independence, Accra became the Mecca of pan-Africanists the world over. They included such personalities as George Padmore, W. E. B. Dubois, Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Robert Sobukwe, Kamuzu Banda, Robert Mugabe and many others. As many of my gentle readers would recall, Nkrumah was the leader of the radical Casablanca Group who wanted immediate unification of the continent. Other members of this group included Sekou Toure of Guinea, Modibbo Keita of Mali and King Hassan of Morocco. The conservative Monrovia Group who advocated a more gradualist approach was led by Nigeria, Ethiopia, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Tunisia. Many suspected Nkrumah to be a man of overweening continental ambition. His assault on multi-party democracy in Ghana, muzzling of the press and independent criticism, removal of a sitting Chief Justice in the person of Sir Arku Korsah, incarceration of opposition leaders such as J. B. Danquah, and the creeping cult of personality, showed all the symptoms of a rising despot. There was no love lost between Nkrumah and our first and only Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Nigeria’s opposition leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was a close friend of the Ghanaian leader. They were both socialists. Several of Awo’s lieutenants were trained at Ghana’s Ideological Institute in Winneba. The Nigerian government pointed accusing fingers at Ghana for an alleged plot to violently overthrow Balewa’s democratically elected government. In 1963, Awolowo was tried for treason and imprisoned for 10 years. When Sir Abubakar was assassinated in the first military putsch led by Majors Chukwuma Nzeogwu and Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Nkrumah coldly declared that our Prime Minister was a “victim of forces he did not understand”. When he himself was deposed in a military coup barely a month later, we would suppose that he was a victim of forces that he presumably well understood. Over succeeding decades, there has been a love-hate relationship between our two countries. Some of our elder military officers were trained at the Ghanaian Military Academy at Teshie. They include Yakubu Gowon, Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, Benjamin Adekunle and Olusegun Obasanjo. It was in Teshie that the Nigerians forged life-long bonds with the likes of Akwasi Afrifa and Ignatius Kutu Acheampong. In 1969, the Oxford-educated Ghanaian Prime Minister, Kofi Abrefa Busia, summarily expelled thousands of Nigerians from his country. In 1983, the civilian administration of Shehu Shagari retaliated later by expelling two million Ghanaians from our country. The Ghanaians were right to see it as the darkest spot in the collective humiliation as a people. These sad events have cast a shadow over our relations for decades. We have made stupendous fortunes from oil, which we have proceeded to fritter away in corruption and graft. Nigeria has come to the aid of Ghana in so many ways. We have given loans and outright grants and offered subsidised petroleum and gas. But they also know that we are a failed state, where nothing really works. We have nothing to show that the Ghanaians can learn from. Of course, there have been intermarriages. Nigerian music and films are all the rage in Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast and beyond. We have naturalised Ghanaians that have made their mark in our country. A notable example being the late Professor Kwaku Adadevoh, who became a Professor of Medicine and distinguished Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. His daughter, Ameyo Adadevoh, became a heroine of contemporary Nigeria by giving her life to protect the nation from the scourge of Ebola. Ghana and Nigeria are the two most important partners in ECOWAS. Nigerians are often left feeling that Ghana outsmarts them at every turn. A good example is Accra winning the right to host the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area. In my honest opinion, our government acted stupidly and deserved to lose. Over the last decade, several foreign companies have re-located to Ghana. They have continued to target all their products to the Nigerian market. Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have gone behind our back to sign an interim Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union. The recent closure of our borders has drawn the ire of some Western powers. In December 2019, Ghana indicated that it would consider joining the new Eco currency that is being brokered by France to replace the West African CFA. Nigerians regard it as a stab on the back. Nigerian traders are having a hard time in Ghana after the government brought a law requiring them to deposit US$300,000 in the bank before they could start any business. Many shops owned by Nigerians have been closed down and their owners hounded and humiliated. Last year, more than 50,000 Fulani herdsmen and their cattle turned in Ghana, armed to the teeth with AK47s and other sophisticated weapons. Ghanaian President, Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo, gave an executive order to chase them out of his country. He gave Ghanaians the right to kill and barbecue any cow that trespasses on their farmland, with a stiff warning to the effect that, “Ghana is not Nigeria”. The violence, lawlessness and anomie that characterise our country today place us on ground zero in the prestige of nations. I am the last to defend, echoing Chinua Achebe, any Nigerian who goes abroad and defecates on another man’s compound. We must therefore do all it takes to redeem our image if we are to win the respect of Ghana and indeed the rest of the world. Such a gross violation of the Vienna Conventions on the sanctity of diplomatic legations cannot stand. Ghana must be made to pay. But we must do it in accordance with due process and in conformity with the spirit of the laws. I suspect it to be a high-stakes diplomatic game to trigger a showdown between our two countries so as to orchestrate the collapse of our much-cherished ECOWAS. Ours has been the most successful regional economic community on the continent, for which Nigeria underwrites 75 per cent of the operating budget. The world powers covet the vast mineral resources of our region and they want to unleash chaos so that we would become a dead carcass like the Democratic Republic of Congo. We must not fall for the bait. When you pull off your clothes to have a wash by the riverside after a hard day’s work on the farm, you do not give a chase to the madman who picks up your clothes and flees. Porn and mainstream entertainment industries are closely related. The difference between a porn star and a movie star is that you see a porn star with clothes for few hours and a movie star without clothes for a few minutes! We are just kidding. Both porn stars and mainstream actors entertain people, and they deserve our respect for whatever they do. Thanks to the internet and democratization of porn, people these days recognize porn stars as much as they acknowledge the Hollywood idols. Let's not talk about those famous porn stars, but quickly have a look at the 12 famous Hollywood celebrities who were once a Hottest IndecentStar! Brace yourself to find some shocking names on the list! 1.David Duchovny David Duchovny, father of Madelaine West Duchovny, like Matt LeBlanc, starred in the softcore film, Red Shoes Diaries. Funny that later his career took him full circle, where he played a sex addict in the hit show, Californication. He ended up in rehab for a real life sex addition. Actors do a lot to get into the film business, and sometimes porn is a part of it. 2.Sylvester Stallone Sylvester Stallone started his acting career with a soft-core pornography movie. He chose to act in an adult film at a time when he was homeless and sleeping in a bus terminal in New York. He said he saw a casting notice of the porn movie "The Party at the Kitty Stud's (1970)," and contacted the producers. The producers selected him to play the male lead in the movie and paid him $200 as compensation. They didn't release the film for unknown reasons. Five years later, when Sylvester Stallone became very famous with the success of "Rocky", they renamed the movie and released it as "Italian Stallion." Unsurprisingly, the film helped them to make a lot of money! 3.Colin Farrell These darn Hollywood sex tapes. They come out when you least expect it, and when you really don't want the world to know the sins of your past. A thirteen minute sex tape of Colin Farrell and his girlfriend, at the time, Playboy Plamate Nicole Narain, was distributed last year, even though Farrell attempted to block it. 4.Jaimee Foxworth - Judy Winslow Family Matters Jaimee Foxworth was a notable child actress when she played Judy Winslow's role in the TV show, Family Matters. Judy Winslow is the little sister of Laura Winslow on the show. As Steve Urkel character was gaining a lot of popularity, the show producers reduced Judy's role drastically, ultimately writing her off from the TV series permanently. Seven years later, the little Jaimee Foxworth transformed into a pornographic actress as she failed to find good roles. She had battled drug addiction and severe financial crisis before she decided to act in a porn movie. She acted in numerous adult films with a stage name, "Crave." Media covered her story extensively.

“I killed Them Because Of N4m” – Leader Of kidnapping Gang That Killed Three UNIPORT, RSU Students Tell Police (Photos) The Rivers state police command has in a new development, paraded five suspected murderers of three University students in the state. The Anti-cultism unit of the State’s police command had on the 1st of May, arrested members of a kidnapping gang who abducted and killed three students identified as Nelson Nwafor and Fortune Obemba —students of the Rivers State University, RSU— and one Joy Adoki, a student of Management Science in the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT. The undergraduates were said to have been abducted on April 7 2020 before their murder. After an extensive investigation, the suspects were apprehended and one of them led security operatives to the shallow grave where the three students had been buried. While briefing journalists at the police headquaters in Port Harcourt, Commissioner of police, Joseph Gobum Mukan said the three victims were kidnapped at Choba. He disclosed that one AK-47, three magazines and 72 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the kidnappers. Leader of the kidnap gang, Bright Iheachi, who led police to the arrest of other gang members, stated that he ordered the killing because one of the victims ran away with his N4 million. He said the initial target was Nelson Nwafor who he claims betrayed him and fled to Ghana with his N4 million share of an undisclosed deal they struck last year. He then stated that he organized for Nelson to be kidnapped. However, on the day of the abduction, Nelson was with Fortune and Joy who were then abducted along with him. “I was the person that ordered my colleagues to kill the three of them, but it was Nelson that I had wanted them to kill, but I later changed my mind and decided that the three of them be killed” he said. Mr Bright Obemba, the distraught father of late Fortune, said the boy was his only son. He said no amount of money given to him would bring back his son. President Buhari has since condemned the attack and has ordered that justice must be served.

1. Lawrence Nomanyagbon Anini. Most of us were not born then but for those who grew in the 80s, the name Lawrence Nomanyagbon Anini can never be forgotten as one of Nigeria’s most notorious armed robbers who reigned supreme in the defunct Bendel State (now Edo and Delta State) Anini also known as The Law, reigned terror in the 80s and was so bloody that his matter was even discussed at the State Security Council meeting in the General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime. Born in 1960 in a village about 20 miles from Benin City in present day Edo State, Anini migrated to Benin at an early age, learned to drive and became a skilled taxi driver, before he took to crime and quickly became a much-feared gang leader whose approach got people trembling. His gang members included Monday Osunbor, later known to be a dreaded killer without mercy, Friday Ofege, Henry Ekponwan, Phillip Iwebelue, Prince Kingsley Eweka, and others. Starting out as car snatchers, bus robbers and bank thieves predominantly in Benin, Anini, and his gang extended his criminal acts to other towns and cities in other states in the country. Anini was also able to penetrate the police echelon and had some top officers as his gun suppliers and informants, the biggest of them being Inspector George Iyamu who benefited immensely from the gang. On September 6, same year, the Anini gang snatched a Peugeot 504 car from Albert Otoe, the driver of an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Christopher Omeben. In snatching the car, they killed the driver and went to hide his corpse somewhere. It was not until three months later that the skeleton of the driver was spotted 16 kilometers away from Benin, along the Benin-Agbor highway. A day after this attack, Anini, operating in a Passat car believed to have been stolen, also effected the snatching of another Peugeot 504 car near the former FEDECO office, in Benin. Two days after, the Anini men killed two policemen in Orhiowon Local Government Area of the state. Still, in that month, three different robbery attacks, all pointing to Anini’s involvement, took place. Anini thus spear-headed a four-month reign of terror between August and December 1986. Anini also reportedly wrote numerous letters to media houses using political tones of Robin Hood-like words, to describe his criminal acts. Even the Military Head of State, Gen. Babangida got worried over the activities of Anini and asked the then Inspector General of Police, Etim Inyang where the bandit was and gave him the mandate to get him dead or alive. Such was his prowess and myth. Anini was finally arrested in a major operation led by Superintendent of Police Kayode Uanreroro, who brought his reign of terror to an end. Anini who was confined to a wheelchair throughout his trial following the amputation of one of his legs was sentenced to death by Justice James Omo-Agege of the Benin High Court and was executed on March 29, 1987. 2. Shina Rambo The name Shina Rambo has refused to go away from the consciousness of Nigerians who either witnessed his crime spree or were unfortunate to live in that era. The Abeokuta, Ogun State-born Rambo was a terror in the 90s and the brain behind many crimes in the Western parts of the country where he robbed and killed with impunity. He was so feared even by the police that many thought he was invisible as he was thought to disappear anytime the police closed in on him. It is believed that the policemen who killed him did not even know that it was Shina Rambo. He was said to be on his way to Lanrewaju Motors to buy a Pathfinder SUV when he was apprehended by the police on the Ojota New Garage Long Bridge. Rambo was not the one driving when the police stopped him and his gang, they discovered a lot of money in a cartoon in the trunk of the Datsun car. When they started questioning him on the possession of such huge an amount, an argument ensued and he attempted to disarm one of the policemen. It was one of the policemen at the other side of the road who shot Rambo down. It was said that it was easy to shoot him because he was not with his charms since he was not going for an operation. 3. Isiaka Busari aka Mighty Joe Shortly after the notorious kingpin of armed robbery in Nigeria, Ishola Oyenusi was executed, his second in command, Isiaka Busari, better known as Mighty Joe, took over the scene and became the defacto king of the underground. Nigeria was still coming out of the pangs of the civil war and with the death of Oyenusi, they thought the era of violent crimes had been nipped in the bud but little did they know that another hoodlum would spring up and become deadlier. In Mighty Joe’s gang were ex-soldiers who were demobilized and with their know how in the handling of guns and other deadly weapons, they held the nation, particularly the South West, to ransom, robbing and killing with reckless abandon. Mighty Joe was even deadlier than Oyenusi and was known to operate at anytime he felt like and taking a human’s life was nothing to him. For many years, he constituted himself a big terror to the people of Lagos, the then Federal Capital, especially around Mushin where he lived and practiced his trade. He strode the hemisphere like a colossus from 1971 when his boss was killed, till 1973 when he was nabbed after robbing a hotel bar attendant, Michael Osayunana, of the sum of ₦10. The arrest of Mighty Joe, according to legend, was as dramatic as his reign of terror. The self-styled ‘Strongman of Idi Oro’ was caught when someone he had earlier robbed, recognized him and fingered him to the police and he was nabbed without any fight, as against his various boasts that no man born of a woman can arrest him due to his strong belief in his spiritual powers. He was said to pay some herbalists huge amounts to prepare charms for him so that he would remain invincible. While he was in prison awaiting his day at the Bar Beach, Mighty Joe converted to Islam and even offered prayers that the execution is reverted. That was never to be. After he was tied to the stakes, he was asked to say his last words and he blurted: “May God bless everybody, both my friends and enemies. Tell my wife, my mother and my in-law to keep fit.” 4. Okwudili Ndiwe aka Derico Okwudili Ndiwe, alias Derico Nwamama, was also one of the deadliest armed robbers to have come out of the Nigeria. In the early 2000s, the 22-year-old Derico Nwamama was probably the King of the Underworld in the Eastern parts of the country; a clear replication of the likes of Lawrence Anini and Ishola Oyenusi. Derico had risen from a street urchin and pick pocket to a dreaded crime king and the mere mention of his name sent shivers down the spines of traders and residents of Onitsha, the commercial capital of Anambra State, and other parts of the east. The traders could not display their wares with peace while many slept with one eye open. Derico sacked commercial banks in Onitsha, carting away millions of Naira. Travelers who had to pass through the state held their breaths, expecting the hoodlum to strike at any time. The then Governor of the state, Chinwoke Mbadinuju, became an old man over night with worries on how to handle the menace of Derico. He was described as the personification of terror. From Nnewi to Nkpor, from the villages in Umuleri to towns in Ihiala, the old and young were terrified at the mere whisper of Derico Nwamama. At that time, he was said to be invisible and could not be arrested. The dreaded Bakassi Boys went on a manhunt for the man known to kill without batting an eyelid. According to legend, Derico Nwamama had killed over 100 people including 25 police officers whose lives he mercilessly wasted. He was a master of countless bus robberies and will not blink twice before pumping his hot lead bullets into the beating hearts of hapless victims. And after his successful raids, he would boast and declare himself invincible. Derico seemed to have placed a lot of faith and confidence in the charms prepared for him by the traditional witch-doctors. With the police and other security forces unable to bring Derico Nwamama and his terror regime to a close, the onus fell on the Bakassi Boys, the militant wing of the Anambra Vigilante Services (AVS), a local vigilante group set up to curb crime and criminality in the South East. The group were then at the forefront of the hunt and capture of Derico Nwamama and on Tuesday, July 3, 2001, the hitherto invisible criminal was nabbed on his way to Onitsha from Agbor, ostensibly on one of his crime spree. On July 9, 2001, six days after Derico was captured at the Niger Bridge, the Bakassi Boys did to him what many had earlier predicted. Chanting war songs, they drove in their convoy around the town and ended at the Ochanja Market Junction along the popular Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha. Derico was dragged out from the bus, looking gaunt and severely beaten, a trademark of the vigilante group. His body bore cuts and gashes, a testament to what he must have gone through in their hands. He must also have known that the day of reckoning has come. He was in obvious pains but no one seemed to care. Still chanting war songs and egged on by the enchanted crowd, one of the commanders of the Bakassi Boys named Okpompi, addressed the crowd, telling them they were in the state not for politics but to fight crime. He handed over the microphone to the now trembling Derico who, like a cornered fox, began begging for his life to be spared. He made feeble attempts at declaring his innocence: “My name is Oddy, alias Derico, alias Nwa Mama. I appeal to you the people of Anambra State, please don’t kill me, I don’t like evil. It was when I killed Chiejina that people thought I am a strong guy, you know. I trust Bakassi Boys. They are strong. Please, mercy for me. Nobody can identify me as having robbed him. People just believe that I am a strong guy.” What was to follow remains one of the most macabre displays of public executions in Nigeria. With the speed of a guillotine, a cutlass handled in the strong arm of one of the Bakassi Boys flew and came down with an unforgiving thud, landing on Derico’s slim neck. In a flash, Derico was beheaded. His severed head rolled on the floor before the crowd while his convulsing body collapsed on the ground, with bright-red blood gushing from his carotid arteries. 5. Abiodun Egunjobi aka Godogodo Abiodun Egunjobi, alias Godogodo, was the modern day version of Lawrence Anini. The one-eyed monster was one of the deadliest armed robbers Nigeria ever had. The 36-years-old Godogodo rose from being a slum boy to the leader of a gang that defied all reasons, struck with precision, killed without mercy and terrorized Lagos and the south-west with reckless abandon. Before his arrest on August 1, 2013, Godogodo gave the Lagos State Police Command so much headache for 14 years, so much so that on the day he was arrested, the command erupted in joy: at least its men would be safe from his guns. Originally from Ogun State, Egunjobi was on the wanted list of the police for over 10 years and the way he managed to evade the police is still legendary. In fact, he was at a time, on the top of the Most Wanted list of the Command with several Police Commissioners assigning the toughest of cops on his trail. At that time, any robbery in Lagos had the imprint of Godogodo, with him leading or one of his boys being responsible. He was famed for leading many robbery operations, especially on banks, with the infamous reputation of killing over 100 policemen in Lagos State. Godogodo allegedly went for operations with a bag containing 10 fully loaded AK 47 rifles with 30 rounds of ammunition each and as such, he was fully prepared in terms of weapons on his back. It was gathered that Godogodo used to tell his gang members that he would never be arrested alive and had vowed to go down with as many policemen as possible on the day he is unable to escape arrest. This vow was later found to be real, as anti-robbery detectives recovered several loaded AK47s, each with 60 rounds of live ammunition, from different parts of his residence, including the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, sitting room on the day of his arrest. He was so good at disguising his criminal activities that even his wife and family members never knew what he was into. He had six houses in different locations including Lagos, Ogun and Ondo States, and never stayed in a particular location for more than a month. Godogodo began his voyage into the deadly world of crime after spending seven years in prison for what he considered a minor offence. As a scrap dealer in the slum of Gatankowa, Abule-Egba, he was involved in a fight and the police arrested him. With no one to bail him out, Godogodo was sent to jail and in his mind, he believed his going to prison was an injustice and blamed the police for it. While in prison, he became acquainted with more deadly armed robbers and formed an alliance with them and took the time to understudy them. When he finally left prison, he decided that he was going to deal with the police for sending him to prison for seven years. During his interrogation, Godogodo told the police that he took only raw cash during his operations and would only attack a place he knew there would be enough cash to cart away. He also said he doesn’t have any bank account as he invested all his money in the property immediately after each operation. Abbey Godogodo visited many Lagosians with sorrow, tears, and blood. Many would not forget Sunday, September 9, 2012, when he and his gang terrorized the state and left indelible marks in the minds of many families after he led a coordinated attack in the city where many innocent people including policemen lost their lives. He revealed how he coordinated the bloody operation and gave chilling details of how he led members of his gang to cart away millions of Dollars from bureau de change operators in Agege and Gbagada areas of Lagos. The Lagos State Police Command led by the then Commissioner, Umar Manko, mandated the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), led by Superintendent of Police, Abba Kyari, to bring an end to the reign of Abbey Godogodo and that began intensive investigations which led to the capitulation of his empire. Manko was given direct orders by the then Inspector General of Police to make sure the Godogodo phenomenon was quashed at all cost. After the gang attacked the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, where two police inspectors and more than five people were killed and over N100 million stolen, the police decided to focus on profiling the suspect, because, up to that point, no one knew anything about him or what he looked like. The police also began looking at the possibility of preempting his subsequent operations. 6. ‘Doctor’ Ishola Oyenusi Naturally, ‘Doctor’ Ishola Oyenusi should have taken the top spot on this list going by the fact that he was the first known armed robber in the country. But Anini’s exploits in the underworld took the shine off Oyenusi. In the history of crime in Nigeria, Oyenusi, was a cold-blooded armed robber who held sway in the early 70s, stands on a very special threshold that none can ever dream of attaining. He took the nation by storm shortly after the Civil War ended and before he was executed on Wednesday, September 8, 1971, at the famous Bar Beach show in front of 30,000 watching Nigerians, no one believed that ‘The Doctor’ would be captured, as he was famed for ‘disappearing’ or his body not penetrable by bullets. In fact, he must have had so much faith in his charms that he smiled all the way to the stake and even as soldiers aimed their rifles at him and his co-criminals, Oyenusi still radiated an aura of invincibility. The phenomenal armed robber rose from the ashes of the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War that spanned three years, from 1967-1970. Oyenusi was a charismatic, cocksure gangster whose lordly disdain for the law cast the terrifying portent of social breakdown, and had come to be celebrated as the quintessential bandit of his time. During his reign of terror, ‘Doctor’ Oyenusi carved a name for himself as the most brutal terror the country had ever known and lived up to another of his nickname of ‘Dr. Rob and Kill’, because he was known to kill with impunity and his myth was legendary. He unleashed boundless terror on many Nigerians and would kill even for a stick of cigarette. Oyenusi was no doubt, the uncrowned emperor of Nigerian robbers and he was described as the ‘first celebrated armed robber in Nigeria’, regarded by some as the pioneer of conventional armed robbery in Nigeria. When Oyenusi reigned at the height of his regal confidence, he declared: ‘The bullet has no power over me.‘ Legend has it that Oyenusi got into active robbery back in 1959, but he committed his first major robbery when he snatched a car along Herbert Macaulay Road in Yaba, Lagos, and killing its owner in the process, just because his girlfriend was broke and needed money to buy her make-up. He eventually sold the car for £400 (Nigeria’s currency then) and handed the money to the lady. He actually snatched the first car he saw on the road. Such was the ferocious nature of his audacity. By the end of the Civil War, Oyenusi had metamorphosed into a cold-hearted robber who took delight in causing pains to his victims. Oyenusi’s arrogance was also legendary. In 1970, he was arrested and handcuffed by a police officer. As the policeman was ordering him around, Oyenusi blasted him and thundered: ‘People like you don’t talk to me like that when I am armed. I gun them down.’ The last robbery that did him in was when he and his gang attacked the WAHUM factory in Ikeja in March 1971, where they stole the princely sum of £28,000, which was unprecedented in those days. A police officer was also killed in the process. ‘Doctor’ Ishola Oyenusi’s execution was celebrated by relieved Nigerians who trooped out en-masse to the Bar Beach in Lagos to witness the end of a man who had held the country to ransom. As the crowd thronged the Beach, jeering and booing Oyenusi and his band of six convicted robbers, the man of the moment kept smiling and waving at them but shortly before his body was riddled with hot-leaded bullets from stern-faced soldiers of the Nigerian Army, he finally screamed: ‘I am dying for the offense I have committed.‘

[font=Lucida Sans Unicode][/font] Lawmakers want answers from Trump Administration on reports Russia paid Taliban to attack US troops |
[b][/b]WASHINGTON — A Russian spy unit paid members of Afghanistan’s Taliban movement to conduct lethal attacks on U.S. troops in that country, according to a classified American intelligence assessment, people familiar with the report said. The assessment of the role played by Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU, in fostering attacks on American soldiers, comes as President Trump is pushing the Pentagon to withdraw a significant portion of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and as U.S. diplomats try to forge a peace accord involving the Taliban and the U.S.-backed Afghan government. The intelligence assessment regarding Russia’s actions in Afghanistan was delivered to the White House earlier this spring, and until recently had been known only to a handful of officials, a person familiar with it said. Its contents were reported earlier Friday by the New York Times. It couldn’t be determined whether Russian bounties paid to Taliban fighters resulted in any American combat deaths in Afghanistan. The White House, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Pentagon declined to comment. Russia’s Embassy in Washington didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. At issue is a secretive unit of the GRU that, according to Western officials, has conducted sometimes clandestine lethal operations against Moscow’s adversaries. The same unit, they said, was responsible for the poisoning in the U.K. of Sergei Skripal, a former GRU officer who defected to Britain, and his daughter. Russia has denied involvement. This story continues in The Wall Street Journal. https://www.foxnews.com/us/russian-spy-unit-paid-taliban-to-attack-us-troops-us-intelligence-says.amp?__twitter_impression=true |

By Hashim Yussuf Amao SIR: Since time immemorial; degrading libels, vituperations, and aspersions have always been levelled against the Nigerian Police. And it seems no one is interested in talking about the second side of their coin – the positive sides. It has always been a general thought, borne out of misconceptions and stereotypes, that anyone in the black uniform is either wicked, corrupt or extortive. A very sick notion this is, and must be called to halt. There are many bad eggs in the Nigeria Police, no doubt, but bad eggs exist there the same way they exist among the non-policemen. The police are not angels, they are normal human beings and as a result, they can goof like any other person would. The corrupt ones among them are only corrupt on their own, and would have been equally corrupt in any other profession they might have belonged. To every story, there are two sides. And from my personal encounters with some, I can candidly attest to the fact that there are many good eggs among the Nigerian Police. I recall an experience on November 10, 2019, when I was making my way from Anambra to Kaduna State, wherein my expectation of getting to Kaduna around 10pm failed, and as a result, I ended up entering the city some minutes past 12 in the night. Amidst fears, I went to Kawo Police Station and narrated my ordeal to the policemen there, and after showing them proofs, I was allowed in. Not only did I pass the night there; safe and sound, but also, I was also transported with police van to the nearest bus-stop, where I boarded a vehicle to my house the following morning. In my mind, I was wondering if they are the same policemen people would besmirch with libelous words. We have heard and read of policemen rendering help to ordinary citizens; like one Sergeant Edward Onriodo who relieved an unknown woman of her throes, by giving her a decent amount for upkeep during this pandemic lockdown. We read of similar accounts of three policemen said to have helped a woman who was in labour on Friday, April 17, at Ikoyi, Lagos around 3am. Not only did they convey her and her husband to the hospital where she finally gave birth, they also gave her some cash. Are these salient acts not commendable? Instead of denigrating the Nigerian Police every now and then, why don’t we, individuals, also work on redeeming our images and change for better citizens? For, a good police force can only exist in a corruption-free-society. Imagine a situation where all Taxi drivers have their particulars, intact and up-to-date, no policeman will have the guts to ask them for bribe or settlements as they would call it.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has denied any rift between himself and club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele. Reports from France on Tuesday night claimed the relationship between the two had broken down completely, with Ndombele telling the Spurs manager that he no longer wanted to play for him. Before football's shutdown, Mourinho had singled Ndombele out over his performances and fitness before praising the midfielder's commitment in training as the Premier League worked towards a return. Ndombele has not played a single minute in the two games since the resumption of the Premier League. The midfielder and Mourinho were caught breaching lockdown in April when they were spotted training on Hadley Common, though Mourinho said last week that he was helping Ndombele fix the Wifi on his GPS. Reacting to the reports, Mourinhio said: "No [there is no problem]. "On the bench was Tanguy, [Ryan] Sessegnon, Toby [Alderweireld], [Jan] Vertonghen, Gedson [Fernandes] and they didn't play. That's football. For me there's nothing. I had attacking players on the bench, [Erik] Lamela and [Steven] Bergwijn. "Two great players to bring on and then Winks to give us more consistency. "This situation of the five changes, some people maybe think that you have to use all five changes. You don't have to do it. You have the chances to do it. "I felt that the team was fine. I never believed that 2-0 was a completely safe result because they were trying everything and one goal could change the state of mind and give them the motivation in the final minutes so I decided to keep the team stable and three changes was enough. "You know, it's not just him. I try to do the best for my team. I cannot start the game with 12 or 13 players, I try to do the best for the team. "Sometimes I apologise to my players that are not my first choice because I feel their work in training deserves something more than I give but I have to do my job the best I can and I felt for these two matches I didn't need him." https://www.standard.co.uk/topic/tanguy-ndombele

Before football's shutdown, Mourinho had singled Ndombele out over his performances and fitness before praising the midfielder's commitment in training as the Premier League worked towards a return. Ndombele has not played a single minute in the two games since the resumption of the Premier League. Reacting to the reports, Mourinhio said: "No [there is no problem]. "On the bench was Tanguy, [Ryan] Sessegnon, Toby [Alderweireld], [Jan] Vertonghen, Gedson [Fernandes] and they didn't play. ✕ From March: Mourinho demands more from Ndombele "You know, it's not just him. I try to do the best for my team. I cannot start the game with 12 or 13 players, I try to do the best for the team. Authorities in the United States U.S may have commenced large scale investigations into the massive looting of Nigeria’s treasury by members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabal. Popintblanknews.com sources at the U.S State Department and the Department of Justice, DOJ, are said to have tracked money laundering activities of Buhari’s Personal Assistant and Private Secretary, Sabiu ‘Tunde’ Yusuf, Senior Special Assistant, Domestic, Sarki Abba, Mamman Daura, and Ismaila Isa and Abubakar Isa Funtua from 2016 to 2019 in the United Arab Emirate and the United Kingdom. While the U.S is relying on her Mutual Legal Assistant Treaty, MLAT, with the UK, to compile the money laundering activities of the interested persons, they are also said to have invoked the Foreign Account Tax Compliance, FATCA, Act, an agreement entered with the United Arab Emirate, UAE, to commence the investigations. Members of the cabal are Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura; Isa Funtua; President Buhari’s Personal Assistant and Private Secretary, Sabiu Yusuf; and the president’s former chief of staff, Abba Kyari who died some months ago. The investigation of Buhari’s cabal is part of investigations being conducted by the US government over the massive looting and money laundering going on the administration. Sources told Pointblanknews.com that Sabiu Yusuf ‘Tunde’ have been moving millions to London and Dubai where he is alleged to have acquired choice properties. However, State Department sources who do not want to be named said that activities of Sabiu ‘Tunde’ Yusuf, Mamman Daura, Mohammed Mamman Daura, and the Funtuas, have caught the attention of the U.S investigators. According to sources, financial transactions done by the members of the cabal between 2016 and 2019 using banks in Nigeria, London and Dubai have been flagged. “Properties purchased from funds suspected to have been laundered by the mentioned have been traced in Dubai and London,” a source familiar with the investigation hinted. Authorities said the most troubling is cash movements linked to Sabiu Yusuf through some proxies to Dubai and London using some first-generation banks in Nigeria. According to the source, top officials of the new generation banks have helped Sabiu ‘Tunde” and others named in laundering over $800million by disguising its sources in the last five years. The source said “over N800million has been laundered between 2016-2019 by officials in Buhari’s Govt. Most have been used to purchase choice properties in Dubai and London.” Recall that Nigeria’s Attorney General of Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami and Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu, have been under the radar of the United States government over acts of corruption and rights abuses in relation to the management of the Abacha loot. Malami, Magu, and other members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet are being processed for sanctions by the United States. While it was gathered that Malami pocketed over $250million from the Abacha loots, Pointblanknews learned that the attorney general and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, shared some of part of the recovered loot, claiming that it was commission paid to negotiators. A case has also been filed in New Jersey, challenging Malami’s huge amount he demanded for a commission from the Abacha repatriated loots. Pointblanknews can report that the US has invoked the Magnistsky Act on the two government officials and several other members of Buhari’s government. In 2016, Congress enacted the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, which allows the US government to sanction foreign government officials implicated in human rights abuses anywhere in the world. A US Senator Charles Grassley recently asked the US government to withhold the repatriation of $320 million Abacha loot to Nigeria citing President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to corporate with the US Department of Justice to finalize a second forfeiture action against a separate $100m loot as well as intending to return the money to an official who was involved in corruption with Abacha. He insisted that it was critical for Congress to understand what steps the US government was taking before it helps to transfer “millions of dollars to Nigeria to ensure that the money is not fueling more corruption and government abuses”. Grassley who also decried the lack of safeguards the money will be used for what has been agreed upon, also tackled the Attorney-General Abubakar Malami and EFCC acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu, saying under their guidance the Buhari administration has clamped down on anyone voicing opposition to the government. The lawmaker who chairs Senate Committee on Finance stated this in a letter he wrote to Deborah Connor, who is Chief Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section of the Department of Justice (DOJ), the US on April 1, 2020. The senator’s action was in light of a report by Bloomberg on the U.S. government’s resistance to a plan by the Nigerian government to transfer over $110 million to Mr. Bagudu from money stolen from Nigerian treasury by the late dictator. Sources at the U.S Congress disclosed that a bipartisan committee is under serious considerations to consider reports of “fraud and gross abuse of power and human rights brought against top members of the Buhari’s Government.” https://nkirukanistoran.com/us-probes-buhari-aides-over-laundering-of-millions-in-dubai-london/

As you all know Russia is a hard country to travel in. So here are the Top 10 fun facts about Russia.. 1. Moscow has more billionaires per capita than anywhere else in the world. Russia’s capital boasts more billionaire residents than any other city in the world – 79 to be exact, according to Forbes. Even without Forbes confirming, it’s easy to believe since we spotted just about every make of luxury car including more Rolls Royce’s than we’d even seen in Monaco. 2. Moscow has the 3rd busiest metro in the world. Topping the list of the world’s busiest metros at number three, just behind Toyko and Seoul, there are 12 lines and more than 6 million people ride the Moscow Metro daily. Sound a bit intimidating? It was actually one of the easiest metros never had to wait more than 40 seconds between trains. There’s even a clock at each stop to time it! 3. Russians are taught not to smile in school. Russia regularly takes first place on lists of the World’s Least Friendly Countries. I personally think that Russians are just misunderstood. Actually Russians are taught not to smile in school. And despite being met with scowls, most Russians are friendly and willing to help us translate or point us in the right direction when temporarily lost. 4. Russians have a lot of superstitions. From rubbing a dog’s paw (but only with your left hand!) for money to making a wish if you could successfully toss a coin into Peter the Great’s boot, we learned about a lot of superstitions. But my favorite was how Russians selected where to build their homes in ancient times. Of course, it was a superstition that the first to enter a new house would die, so naturally they’d send a cat in first. They have nine lives after all! If the cat refused to enter, they’d tear down the structure and re-build somewhere else. 5. Russian brides go on a city tour after getting married. I think we saw more Russian brides in 10 days traveling in Russia than I ever saw in 6 years of living in Las Vegas. We saw them posing in front of famous churches like St. Basil’s and Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood, at parks, and even on boats along St. Petersburg’s canals. It’s tradition for a newly married couple to go on a city tour immediately following the ceremony. 6. Russian women really do walk around in 6-inch heels. Russia = the land of fabulous shoes. And Russian women never failed to amaze me as they traversed the cobbled streets in 6-inch stilettos, never faltering. Perhaps all the vodka numbs the feet? 7. If you spent 2 minutes looking at each exhibit in the Hermitage, it would take you 6 years to see everything. The Hermitage is huge. Massive. Comprised of six buildings, there are over 3 million exhibits inside. It’s also one of the largest and oldest museums in the world and was founded by Catherine the Great in 1764. 8. The village of Suzdal is only 15 square kilometers but has an incredible 53 churches. Suzdal is full of picturesque charm. Even though the population is now over 10,000, it retains its small village feel and charm. There is a beautiful juxtaposition between Russian architecture and farmland. The sun had broke through the clouds just in time for sunset and we literally frolicked in a meadow as the golden sun illuminated the Kremlin and wooden church of St. Nicholas. 9. St. Petersburg has three times as many bridges as Venice. Many cities – Bruges, Amsterdam, and Hamburg, to name a few – are all dubbed the “Venice of the North”. St. Petersburg is also on that list, and dare I say, is much more romantic than Venice itself. We had sunny days and the golden hour before sunset was our favorite time to wander the city. We’d pause on some of the city’s over 1000 bridges that cross the canals to watch golden onion domes glisten and spires sparkle. 10. The Trans-Siberian Railway crosses 8 time zones, goes through 87 cities and towns, and crosses 16 rivers including the Volga. Recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest single railway in the world, we only traversed a teeny-tiny part on an overnight train journey from Yaroslavl to St. Petersburg. But hey, we were on the Trans-Siberian Railway!

1. Donald Trump It’s hard to believe that President Donald Trump was once “merely” known as a brash New York real estate developer with an outrageous hairstyle, high-profile romantic exploits, and a true gift for self-promotion. What was lesser known, though by no means secret, was that Trump-owned businesses declared bankruptcy no fewer than six times between 1991 and 2009. Trump inherited the family business from his father, Fred Trump, a successful New York City builder and landlord. Whereas his father made his fortune building single-family homes, and later running large apartment complexes in New York’s outer boroughs, Donald went for bigger, flashier prizes: Manhattan high-rises, Atlantic City casinos, Florida resorts, and ultimately a network of branded hotels, casinos, golf courses, luxury residences, media productions, and random business ventures: Trump Steaks, Trump Water, Trump Vodka, and even a failed regional airline known as Trump Shuttle. Many of his later ventures were low-risk licensing arrangements that found Trump charging impressive fees to attach his name to projects financed by others (Forbes contributor Steve Olenski describes how some of these arrangements worked). During the 2000s, Trump devoted much of his personal attention to high-profile media ventures, such as “The Apprentice,” “Celebrity Apprentice,” and the Miss Universe pageant. What Happened Six Trump-owned businesses filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the 1990s and 2000s, according to PolitiFact. Five were gaming enterprises, including the famed Trump Taj Mahal and its parent company, Trump Hotels and Casinos Resorts. Most bankruptcies occurred during or following the major real estate downturns of the early 1990s and mid- to late-2000s. The first bankruptcy, filed in 1991, was arguably the most devastating for Trump’s lifestyle. Trump funded the $1 billion Trump Taj Mahal with loads of high-interest debt, and within a year of opening, the property was more than $3 billion in the hole. Trump was personally on the hook for $900 million. The eventual settlement required Trump to sell off Trump Shuttle and offload his personal yacht. Subsequent Trump bankruptcies also involved eye-popping numbers. For example, Trump Hotels and Casinos Resorts was more than $1.8 billion in debt when it first filed for Chapter 11 in 2004 (a second filing came in 2009). However, they didn’t affect his personal finances or lifestyle to the same extent, largely because Trump did not personally guarantee the loans that financed the struggling projects. Trump’s latter-year pursuit of low-risk licensing arrangements make it less likely that his ventures will face serious financial problems going forward – a fortuitous development for a presidential candidate. Post-bankruptcy Activities Following his most recent bankruptcy, Donald Trump sought the spotlight with renewed vigor. In 2011, he flirted with a presidential run, leveraging debunked theories of former President Obama’s foreign birth to ingratiate himself with the Republican Party’s disgruntled voter base. He abandoned his quest after the State of Hawaii released Obama’s long-form birth certificate, and subsequently endured a brutal roast (including from President Obama himself, as reported in the The New Yorker and elsewhere) at the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Trump’s humiliation in 2011 may well have hardened his political ambitions. In June 2015, he launched his first official presidential campaign with a rambling speech that scapegoated immigrants, ethnic minorities, and political elites. He spent the following 12 months in similar form, upending years of accumulated political wisdom with his bombast and dispatching a deep Republican primary field by May 2016. Then, seemingly against all odds, Trump narrowly defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general election. On January 20, 2017, he was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. Trump’s early presidency has been characterized by the same controversy and polarization that dogged – but didn’t derail – his candidacy. His administration’s adversarial relationship with the press delights Trump’s base and infuriates his detractors. Low-level scandals provide constant fodder for Washington, D.C.‘s chattering classes. More ominously, the Trump campaign’s purported ties to Russia, and subsequent attempts to obstruct an FBI probe into the matter, remain the subject of a far-reaching Department of Justice investigation led by former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III. (The Washington Post has a comprehensive timeline on the unfolding saga.) The affair has already ensnared several of Trump’s associates, and some political observers believe the affair poses a mortal threat to his presidency, but no one really knows how it will shake out. No matter how Trump is remembered by historians of the future, one thing is for sure: The full story will be an engrossing read. What We Can Learn Politics aside, it’s heartening to see that serious financial troubles do not disqualify brash, self-described billionaires from the presidency. More importantly, Trump’s financial history demonstrates that American bankruptcy laws function as a gaping escape hatch for businesspeople facing financial ruin. Trump successful used bankruptcy to salvage at least some of his fortune, and keep his business empire intact, when the going got tough. Aside from the 1991 bankruptcy, Trump’s successive brushes with insolvency did not adversely affect his personal wealth or lavish lifestyle. Whether his reputation survived unharmed is another question entirely. Pro Tip: If you’re self-employed and have yet to form a business structure that can insulate your personal assets from your business activities, what are you waiting for? It certainly worked out for Trump.

can't blame Alsina. I'd hit it too if I was in his shoes
