Nairaland GeneralEmpire State Building Urges Council To Reject Skycraper Plan by johnnyblakes(op): 9:43am On Sep 19, 2013
The 102-storey Empire State Building, completed in 1931, is currently the tallest in New York.
By Nick Allen 6:22PM BST 24 Aug 2010
The owner of the Empire State Building has called for nearly 400ft to be lopped off a planned nearby office block "monstrosity" that would be just 34ft shorter than the city's most famous skyscraper.

New York's city council is to vote this week on whether to allow the new glass structure, which would be located about 900ft away.

Giving evidence to the council, Anthony Malkin, owner of the Empire State Building, said the new tower would spoil the skyline and obscure tourists' view of "the number one favourite building in the US
He said: "We view this as an assault on New York City and its iconography. It's the end of the image of New York City that billions of people hold dear."

In an effort to gain public support, Mr Malkin, whose grandfather founded the Malkin Holdings Company, took out a full page advertisement in the New York Times showing his building being muscled out.

He also appealed to the council to make the new structure no more than 825ft high, about two-thirds of the height originally proposed.

Supporters of the new skyscraper at 15 Penn Plaza argued it would provide much-needed state-of-the-art office space as New York attempts to keep up with changes in countries like China.

It would also create at least 7,000 new jobs, they said.

David Greenbaum, of developer Vornado, said: "The fact is, New York City's skyline has never stopped changing and I certainly hope it never will."

Mr Malkin received a chilly reception from the council after refusing a recent request to light up the Empire State Building to mark the centenary of Mother Teresa's birth on Thursday. It had previously been illuminated for celebrities including Mariah Carey.

If the city council approves the new tower, the final decision will lie with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who supports it.

At 1,454ft, including its spire, the 102-storey Empire State Building, completed in 1931, is currently the tallest in New York.

The proposed structure, designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, resembles a giant chisel on top of a block, tapering to a flat edge at its peak.

Acts 8:37, "And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
Omitted
Acts 8:37 teaches one must first "believe" before one can be baptized, and the Minority Text omits it altogether. In other words, this powerful profession of faith is no longer needed for one to be baptized...baptism itself leads to salvation. But God says no such thing.
I John 5:13, "...and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
Omitted
The Minority Text does not want anyone to believe in Jesus Christ!
Mark 11:26, "But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses."
Omitted
Nobody will receive forgiveness from God if they don't forgive others. Why does the Minority Text hide this fact?

Matthew 17:21, "Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
Omitted
Jesus said "prayer and fasting" are important for fortifying faith. The Minority Text obviously does not agree with Jesus, for they delete this teaching!

Mark 16:9-20 (all twelve verses), "Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen."

There is a line separating the last 12 verses of Mark from the main text. Right under the line it says: [The two most reliable early manuscripts do not have Mark 16:9-20] (NIV, 1978 edition)
Luke 22:43-44, "And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."

John 7:53-8:11 (all twelve verses) "And every man went unto his own house. Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more."

Christianity EtcRe: Do We Go Straight To Heaven After Death, Or After The Resurrection? by johnnyblakes(m): 6:14pm On Sep 17, 2013
princefunmi: You are right about the fact that the majority of mankind will stay here right on earth. But that Christ will rule here on earth and not in heaven is a very big error. Christ's throne will be firmly established in heaven and in the company of the 144,000 (people who have been chosen from the human race), Christ will rule over mankind on earth. It is at this period that mankind shall be returned to the state of perfection. This rule will last for a thousand years.

Fili_Dei: @ OP,

The Catholic Church teaches that those with mortal sins go to eternal damnation; those without any unforgiven sin or unsatisfied temporal punishment go to heaven; those with venial sins (not mortal) and unsatisfied temporal punishment go to purgatory to be purged for their final entrance into heaven.

If you'll listen...

Christianity EtcRe: Pope Francis Starting To Suspect He May Actually Be The Antichrist After All by johnnyblakes(m): 11:07am On Sep 17, 2013
plaetton: This is very interesting.
Pentecostal Christians questioning the wisdom of the pope.
What a bunch of blokes who are ignorantly forgetting the the catholics founded and molded Christianity in its present form.
They wrote the manual on it and also know all its secrets.

I is indeed very laughable to see cash and carry Christianity Africans, who have lost their own cultural roots and underpinnings, trying to criticize the head of the catholic world for doing things that are unchristian.

And what has the Pope done wrong?
He is instituting policies of openess and accomodation to everyone.

It is now very obvious to me that evangelical Christians would mock or kill Jesus if he returns and tries to challenge the Bling Bling Cash and Carry theology of Pentecostal Christianity.
look at this lost soul!
