Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Thursday, call on President Muhammadu Buhari to release the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Soludo made the call in Abuja during the presentation of a book titled, ‘The Politics of Biafra and the Future of Nigeria,’ written by Chudi Offodile.

Former CBN boss who recalled that Chief Obafemi Awolowo was loved even more among the Yorubas after he was imprisoned for treason in the 1960s, said that Kanu’s prolonged detention would make him a hero or a martyr, this is as he said that current agitation for Biafra would not stop by holding Kanu in prison.

Abia State Police command has said that September 23rd declaration of a public holiday by the Indigenous People Of Biafra would not stand, urging the members of the public to go about their normal business.

The state Commissioner of police, Mr. Leye Oyebade said this yesterday during an interactive session with newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital.

Recall that IPOB has directed members of the public to observe a one-day sit-at-home protest on said date on Biafraland, while a worldwide protest will equally take place across major street in the diaspora.

A fatal accident along Kenema road in Sierra Leone has claimed 17 lives with others seriously injured, Thegistbaze learned.

A Facebook user, Iyke NwaforUchendu, who sent the pictures to our news editor said that evacuation of dead bodies has commence while the injured ones are being moved to the nearest hospitals.

He said that the cause of the accident is not known.

The leader of the militant group, Bakasi Strike Force (BSF), Uduak Etim Thompson, has been arrested by the Nigerian Navy.

Speaking on the arrest yesterday, the Director of Navy Public Relations, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, said that Thompson, was apprehended on Monday, September 12, 2016.

He said that the militant and his group have perpetrated criminal activities in the Nger Delta zone, ranging from pipelines destruction, kidnapping and other related crimes.

It all started like a joke but later transpired into a very serious issue when a mad man who normally stayed at cemetery market Aba, close to Amaogbonna road, started screening Biafra.

People who sell around the area initially avoided his noise but were later attracted when the mad man started preaching Biafra.

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Monday, called on the United Nations (UN) to urgently conduct a referendum to know whether Biafrans want to be part of Nigeria or not.

MASSOB made this call in Owerri, Imo State during the conference organized to mark the 17th anniversary of the birth of MASSOB.

“Conducting this all important referendum for the independence of Biafra is long overdue. Biafrans earnestly await this exercise”, the Owerri Zonal leader of MASSOB, Chief Canice Anujuru said.

The Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, has raised alarm over the deteriorating health condition of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The group, through its spokespersons Mr Emma Mmezu and Dr. Clifford Iroanya, warned that IPOB would not take it easy if anything happens to Kanu.

“We have warned before and will continue to warn that the world should pray nothing happens to our leader, because if his present illness gets worse, IPOB worldwide will not take it easy,” IPOB warned.

On the alleged shooting of bullet inside Kanu's prison room after a riot broke out in the prison in August, the group said they have evidence which they have shown to the British Government and U S for complete analysis.

“The canisters of poisonous gas with bullet shell have been shown to the British Government that visited our leader at Kuje Prison following the failed assassination attempt.

The group also demand for unconditional release of Kanu and other detained members across the country, maintaining that they have not committed any crime to warrant such incarceration.

Nigeria's Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, on Sunday, said that county's current economic recession is caused due to vandalisation of pipelines in the Niger Delta.

Osinbanjo, who spoke with journalists after a Church programme in Abeokuta, Ogun State, however expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome the current challenges.

"One of the key reasons why we are in recession is the fact that we lost about 60 per cent of our revenue due to the vandalisation of the pipelines on the Niger/Delta and we lost almost 40 per cent of the gas. Once we are able to resolve that, we would at least be able to earn more revenue,”

The Nigerian Army has finally end its trainng exercise code named 'Exercise Crocodile Smile' in Bayelsa State.

The exercise which started about two weeks ago was launched by the Nigerian Army to checkmate the activities of militants in the Niger Delta zone and possibly reduce crime to its lowest ebb.

Describing the exercise as successful, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai commended his men for a job well done and assuring for better days ahead.

He said while the soldiers have had to survive in the riverine environment, which for many was their first time in such a place, the training has offered them a firsthand knowledge of the Niger Delta terrain.

Meanwhile, the soldiers have being in a celebration mode as they wait for official pronouncements which will signal an end to the training.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, on Saturday, called on the people of Bayelsa State and Nigerians at large to embrace farming and start producing.

Lokpobiri, who made this call in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said that Nigeria is spending about $22bn every year on food importation.

According to him, “Rice matures in three months. So, this is a wake up call for Bayelsa people to take the four farms we have seriously. The federal government has four farms in the state in our records.

"We know how many more dollars they bought and that is why you see the price of rice going up. “Price of rice was N12,000 some months ago, but it is now about N26,000 and if we don’t start producing, by December it could be N40,000.

Blessed be the name of the Most High God, the God whose I am and the God whom I serve, blessed be His holy name forever.

Mr. Chairman, our Royal fathers, my Lords spiritual and temporal, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, all protocols observed.

Let me begin by thanking you for your invitation and for all your love. It is indeed a privilage and an honor for me to be here today and I am deeply humbled and touched.

I crave your indulgence to permit me to share a few things with you before I get to the main thrust of my speech in an attempt to explain precisely what my links with the northern minorities are and to show you why I can never leave you.

My home is in the north. I have lived here for the last 14 years of my life.

I know the history of the north, and indeed the history of every part of Nigeria, very well.

This is because I made a point of studying and researching that history over the last 35 years.

That is why I know and understand the mindset of, for example, the Fulani so well.

I know that they are not indigenous Nigerians like you and I but rather strangers and aliens that, approximately 211 years ago, came from a distant and desolate land called the Vulture Mountains in Futa Jalon, which is in modern-day Guniea.

It is because I know and say these things that some of them hate me so much and will do anything to stop, silence, discredit, destroy or even kill me.

Yet I know that I cannot die before my time or before work on earth is done and neither can I be destroyed because I am covered by the blood of Jesus.

Despite their obvious malice and evil intentions for me I do not hate them because we are compatriots. Hate is a corrosive and self-destructive quality: it wounds and ultimately destroys the hater far sooner and in a much more profound way than it does the object of his hate. I therefore choose to return their hatred with love.

It is not the Fulani that I hate but rather what they are doing to our people in Nigeria today and indeed what they have been doing to us over the last 211 years since they arrived in this country.

In any case we are all Nigerians, even though some of us came to these shores much sooner than others.

We must endeavour to live in love and peace with one another, including the Fulani, and that has always been my position.

Permit me to make a confession to you today: I actually have Fulani blood running through my veins because my great grandmother was a pure Fulani woman from Sokoto.

She married my maternal great grandfather, who was a Yoruba Muslim from Ilesha, and she moved to the southwest with him. How can I then hate myself?

EDO - Witches and Wizards Association of Nigeria (WITCAN) has scheduled an emergency meeting, during which the winner of Edo gubernatorial election will be revealed to them.

The group warned against possible violence before, during and after the election.

The spokesman of the group, Dr Okhue Iboi in a statement, disclosed that some political parties are working to unleash violence which may lead to the destruction of life and property.

A suspected leader of Otugas Fire Force militant group, Mr. Gabriel Ogbudje, has been arrested by troops of 4 Brigade Nigeria Army.

Gabriel was arrested on Tuesday, September 6, along Agbor-Abraka road, Edo State after being trailed by security men.

The militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Movement, NDJM, has finally agreed to ceasefire and key into the ongoing negotiation between the Niger Delta elders and the federal government.

The man who named his dog 'Buhari' and was remanded in Ibara Prison in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has regained freedom after four days.

Mr Joachin Chinakwe, a trader in Ogun State and a native of Delta State was arraigned on Monday before Ota Magistrate Court, Ogun State for conduct likely to cause breach of peace. He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties, who must be regular tax payers in the state; but was remanded in prison custody since he could not perfect the bail conditions.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after his release yesterday, Mr Chinakwe maintained that he has right to name his dog.

The Re-branded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIOPOB), a splinter group of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared its support for a united Nigeria.

Disclosing this in Aba, Abia State, the Spokesman for the splinter group, Chima Phillip Effiong Osuji, said that the struggle for Biafra actualization is not feasible, which was why the group made u-turn.
