CHAPTER TWO


Three Years Ago

"Dear diary, today is the best day of my life, he finally proposed" Scribbling away in my lifelong friend. Right from childhood, housing my highs, and my lows and secrets.
Not like I'm a loner but there are just some things I can't bring myself to talk about. If my brother found out about this, he wouldn't let it go, why do brothers have to be so teasing, 'urgh'.
Well even my girlfriends would probably do same, "what am I, five?". Why do they need to remind me of my age, being an adult doesn't mean I can't keep my childish wiles. My mind wanders back to my hunny bun, as l snuggle against my fluffy pillows in pink, 'he really understands me.
How someone can be so perfect l wonder, too good to be true but it's my fairytale, nothing can spoil this for me.
"Brr brr" the alarm as relentless as usual, fortunately l welcome it today, my brother is coming back. I wish he could just settle down but no he has to serve his country, well can't be mad at him. I would just be selfish telling him to quit, a lot of people do have him to thank for.
His flight will be due to land at exactly twelve noon, if it won't get delayed or something. Well first things first, gotta say my prayers. Many may scorn at me for this, but personally ever since my mom joined dad in the great beyond, l was in serious pain and depression but the church my mom normally attended really cared and showed me God's word and promises.
I wish more will find him like I did. Now done, l stood up and sit back on the edge of the bed checking for messages. Just two, one from my brother; hey kiddo can't wait to see you, just boarded the plane now. So don't be late or else". I freeze midway, memories of endless pranking come rushing in, when will he grow up?
Although l wouldn't want another episode of that torture. I continue to read, "Just kidding" Urgh! I can already see him smirking at succeeding to scare me a bit, brothers! I finish the text with a smile. "but honestly l can't wait to see, besides I got good news to share with you. See you in a flash kiddo."

I can't help but wonder what it could, probably a promotion. Can't help thinking its a girl, but then knowing my brother, he's gonna need my matchmaking magic. I'm a pro, but then he never settles down and each time I want to set him up, he always dampened my effort with excuses.

I feel bad that after the many successes I've had with my clients, l can't seem to help my only brother, what a shame. Standing up with renewed vigor with my final decision in mind, l head to the bathroom. Gotta get ready for today.
'Damn! I forgot to play the music'. I ran back to phone, connect to a speaker and viola my Celine Dion album on shuffle starts to play, sublime. Now to get ready.

"Beep beep beep" the alarm clock sings as usual, gotta get up and....
I get up from bed, my mind blank.
I turn off the alarm clock, almost instantly my phone rings, 'seriously?' l check the screen and what l see hits me.
Entering the bathroom only confirms it all, no wonder why my mind felt so empty. Dressing up in slacks since l ain't going out today.
Breakfast is bacon and eggs, I wonder if it's my favorite, well at least l still know how to cook. Now settling in front of the TV, I pick up the remote to find some entertainment.
New discovery l don't like watching the morning news, too depressing. Wow! Oh found a comedy show, perfect.
My phone rings again as soon as my last bite is completed. Where did I leave it? Don't have to be careless with my chaperone.
Left in on the dining table, it's another notification. Apparently I have a date by seven pm. What! A date with who? I don't even know anybody! I scream out in pain and begin to cry.
It's just too much to take in, I don't even know who I am. Still sobbing l remember my name is Sarah. I start to laugh when I also remember there's ice-cream in the fridge. Apparently it's my bad habit.


"I'm home! ", carefully closing the door with my leg, since my hands was full with groceries. Sarah, where are you? I'm back from the store, come say hi to daddy".
Still no reply, you know after ten years of being together, you would think she would warm up to me. So damn stubborn, I wish I could just sell her off, if only... My thoughts are interrupted by a brown cat gracefully runs to me with its normal cry "meow" "What made the queen change her mind?" I ask while putting away last item in the bag.
With that done l could finally scoop her up in my arms. "You know there are some times I just wish l could give you out, but you're just too cute" Can't help but give Sarah a few kisses. Not too pleased with the affection, she struggles to get down. Can't help but laugh and oblige, now free she scampers away to whence she came.

Checking my watch l discover it's one hour to my date. "Damn! Thought I had enough time to watch my favorite TV show" Now realising the choice l had to make, with a scowling smile l run to the bathroom to have a quick shower. No need spoiling my third date with manly sweat.
With the speed of light l am already dressed for the occasion. Since we're just going to the movies, I am going with a casual look, my favorite starred blue V-neck on jeans. Putting on my Nike, can't help but smile in disbelief of it's two year age.
Still looks new, my mum would be proud her lessons got through. I am done in twenty minutes, not forgetting a light spray of perfume and my wallet l tell my house goodbye again before shutting the lights and locking the door.
