Christianity EtcBreaking: Scientists Move The Doomsday Clock Forward !!! by Jokanem(op): 4:19pm On Feb 03, 2023
Scientists Move the Doomsday Clock Forward

What is Doomsday Clock?

“The Doomsday Clock is a design that warns the public about how close we are to destroying our world with dangerous technologies of our own making. It is a metaphor, a reminder of the perils we must address if we are to survive on the planet.”—Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists

On January 24, 2023, scientists set the Doomsday Clock a closer to midnight, which stands for the end of the world.

“The ‘Doomsday Clock’ symbolizing the perils to humanity moved its closest ever to midnight on Tuesday amid the Ukraine war, nuclear tensions and the climate crisis.”—AFP International Text Wire.

“Scientists revealed on Tuesday that the ‘Doomsday Clock’ has been moved up to 90 seconds before midnight—the closest humanity has ever been to armageddon.”—ABC News.

“A panel of international scientists has warned that humanity’s continued existence is at greater risk than ever before.”—The Guardian.

Is the end of humanity and our planet approaching? Do we need to fear what the future holds? What does the Bible say?

What the future holds

According to the Bible, “the earth remains forever” and there will be people who “will live forever on it.” (Ecclesiastes 1:4; Psalm 37:29) So humans will not destroy the earth or make our entire planet unlivable.

However, the Bible does mention an end. For example, it says that “the world is passing away.”—1 John 2:17.

Let find out what the Bible means when it talks about the end of the world.

“Is the World Coming to an End? What Is the Apocalypse?”

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “apocalypse”?

You might think of a global catastrophe, perhaps one that ends all life on earth. Some believe that the world is heading toward such a disaster, especially when they read news reports like the following:

“Nuclear war—whether started by design, blunder, or simple miscommunication—is a genuine possibility.”—Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

“The past decade has seen an astonishing run of record-breaking storms, forest fires, droughts, coral bleaching, heat waves, and floods around the world.”—National Geographic.

“Locust swarms in Africa are worst in decades.”—The Associated Press.

Will the earth be destroyed in a global apocalypse? What does the Bible say?

Will planet earth come to an end?

No. God’s Word, the Bible, assures us that the earth will remain forever. (Ecclesiastes 1:4) Rather than destroying the earth that he created, God will “bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”—Revelation 11:18.

Is the world coming to an end?

According to the Bible, the “world” that will come to an end is the world of mankind who disregard God and pursue selfish desires. Just as he did in the days of Noah, God will bring an end to “a world of ungodly people.”—2 Peter 2:5; 3:7.

As 1 John 2:17 states, “the world is passing away and so is its desire.” This verse shows that God will destroy, not the literal planet earth, but the people who persist in their ungodly desires.

When will the end come?

The Bible does not tell us exactly when the end will come. (Matthew 24:36) However, it does indicate that the end is close. The Bible foretells the following:

Events such as wars, food shortages, epidemics, and powerful earthquakes would occur “in one place after another.”—Matthew 24:3, 7, 14; Luke 21:10, 11; Revelation 6:1-8.

People in general would display extreme selfishness. For example, they would be “lovers of money,” “unthankful,” and “without self-control.”—2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Seeing the fulfillment of this Bible prophecies indicate the end of this wicked system of things. God's kingdom, the only solution to mankind problem is coming!!!

Christianity EtcWhat Does It Means To Be Holy by Jokanem(op): 9:37am On Jan 17, 2023
What Does It Mean to Be Holy?

To be holy refers to a state of being set apart from defilement. The Hebrew word translated “holy” comes from a term meaning “separate.” Thus, what is holy is separated from common use, or held sacred, especially by virtue of its being clean and pure.

God is holy to the supreme degree. The Bible says: “There is no one holy like Jehovah.” a (1 Samuel 2:2) God therefore rightly sets the standard of what is holy.

The word “holy” can be applied to anything that is directly connected to God, especially things that are set aside for exclusive use in worship. For example, the Bible speaks of:

Holy places:
God told Moses near the burning bush: “The place where you are standing is holy ground.”—Exodus 3:2-5.

Holy events:
The ancient Israelites worshipped Jehovah at regular religious festivals called “holy conventions.”—Leviticus 23:37.

Holy objects:
Items used in God’s worship at the ancient temple in Jerusalem were called “holy utensils.” (1 Kings 8:4) Such sacred items were to be treated with great respect, although they were never to be worshipped themselves.

Can an imperfect person be holy?

Yes. God commands Christians: “You must be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16) Of course, imperfect humans could never attain to God’s perfect standard of holiness. Nevertheless, humans who obey God’s righteous laws can be considered “holy and acceptable to God.” (Romans 12:1)

A person who strives to be holy reflects this in his words and actions. For example, he or she follows the Bible’s advice to “be holy and abstain from sexual immorality” and to “become holy yourselves in all your conduct.”—1 Thessalonians 4:3; 1 Peter 1:15.

Could a holy standing with God be lost?

Yes. If someone abandoned God’s standards of conduct, God would no longer view that person as holy. For instance, the Bible book of Hebrews is addressed to “holy brothers,” yet it warns that they could develop “a wicked heart lacking faith by drawing away from the living God.”—Hebrews 3:1, 12.

Misconceptions about being holy

Misconception: Holiness can be attained by self-denial.

Fact: The Bible reveals that “harsh treatment of the body,” or extreme self-denial, is “of no value” to God. (Colossians 2:23) Instead, God wants us to enjoy good things. “Everyone should eat and drink and find enjoyment for all his hard work. It is the gift of God.”—Ecclesiastes 3:13.

Misconception: Celibacy makes one more holy.

Fact: While a Christian may choose to remain unmarried, celibacy does not in itself provide a holy standing with God. It is true that those who remain single can give undistracted attention to worship. (1 Corinthians 7:32-34)

However, the Bible shows that those who are married can also be holy. In fact, at least one of Jesus’ apostles—Peter—was married.—Matthew 8:14; 1 Corinthians 9:5.

Where does the term “Holy Bible” come from?

For centuries, the complete collection of inspired writings has been termed the “Holy Bible” or “Sacred Scriptures” for these reasons:

Its origin. “Men spoke from God as they were moved by holy spirit.”—2 Peter 1:21.

Its message. “The commandment of Jehovah is clean, making the eyes shine. The fear of Jehovah is pure, lasting forever.”—Psalm 19:8, 9.

The Bible can thus be considered holy. It is set apart from other writings by its pure contents and sacred use in worship.
Christianity Etc12 Facts And Misconceptions About Fasting by Jokanem(op): 9:22am On Jan 17, 2023
What Does the Bible Say About Fasting?

In Bible times, fasting was acceptable to God when it was done with the right motive. But when it was done for the wrong reasons, it brought God’s disfavor. However, the Bible neither commands nor forbids fasting for people today.

Under what circumstances did some in the Bible fast?

1). When seeking help and guidance from God. The people journeying to Jerusalem fasted to show their sincerity in asking for God’s help. (Ezra 8:21-23)

2) Paul and Barnabas at times chose to fast when appointing congregation elders.—Acts 14:23.

3). When focusing on God’s purpose. After his baptism, Jesus fasted for 40 days to prepare himself to do God’s will during his coming ministry.—Luke 4:1, 2.

4) When demonstrating repentance over past sins. Through the prophet Joel, God told unfaithful Israelites: “Return to me with all your hearts, with fasting and weeping and wailing.”—Joel 2:12-15.

5) When observing the Day of Atonement. The Law that God gave to the nation of Israel included a command to fast on the annual Day of Atonement. a (Leviticus 16:29-31)

Fasting was appropriate on this occasion because it reminded the Israelites that they were imperfect and needed God’s forgiveness.

What are some improper motives for fasting?

1) To impress others. Jesus taught that religious fasting should be a personal and private matter between an individual and God.—Matthew 6:16-18.

2) To prove oneself righteous. Fasting does not make a person morally or spiritually superior.—Luke 18:9-14.

3) To try to compensate for a deliberate practice of sin. (Isaiah 58:3, 4) God accepted only fasts that were accompanied by obedience and by heartfelt repentance for any sins committed.

4) To carry out a religious formality. (Isaiah 58:5-7) In this respect, God is like a parent who is displeased when his children express love for him merely out of obligation, not from the heart.

Is fasting required for Christians?

No. God required the Israelites to fast on Atonement Day, but he eliminated that observance after Jesus permanently atoned for the sins of repentant people. (Hebrews 9:24-26; 1 Peter 3:18)

Christians are not under the Mosaic Law, of which Atonement Day was a part. (Romans 10:4; Colossians 2:13, 14) Therefore, each Christian may decide for himself whether to fast.—Romans 14:1-4.

Christians recognize that fasting is not the focus of their worship. The Bible never associates fasting with happiness.

In contrast, true Christian worship is marked by joy, reflecting the personality of Jehovah, “the happy God.”—1 Timothy 1:11; Ecclesiastes 3:12, 13; Galatians 5:22.

Misconceptions about the Bible’s view of fasting

1) Misconception: The apostle Paul recommended fasting to Christian married couples.—1 Corinthians 7:5, King James Version.

Fact: The oldest Bible manuscripts do not mention fasting at 1 Corinthians 7:5. b Evidently, Bible copyists added a reference to fasting, not only to this verse but also to Matthew 17:21; Mark 9:29; and Acts 10:30. Most modern Bible translations omit these spurious references to fasting.

2) Misconception: Christians should fast in commemoration of the 40 days that Jesus fasted in the wilderness after his baptism.

Fact: Jesus never commanded such a fast, nor are there any Scriptural indications that early Christians observed it. c

3) Misconception: Christians should fast when commemorating Jesus’ death.

Fact: Jesus did not command his disciples to fast when commemorating his death. (Luke 22:14-18) While Jesus said that his disciples would fast when he died, he was not issuing a command but merely stating what was going to happen. (Matthew 9:15)

The Bible instructed Christians who were hungry to eat at home before observing the Memorial of Jesus’ death.—1 Corinthians 11:33, 34.
Christianity EtcIs Our Time To Die Predetermined ? by Jokanem(op): 1:37pm On Jan 15, 2023
Is our time to die predetermined?

The answer is NO, we do not have a predetermined time to die.

Rather than supporting fate, the Bible says that death is often due to 'unexpected events'.
Ecclesiastes 9:11

But doesn't the Bible say that there's 'a time to die'?

Yes Ecclesiastes 3:2 says that 'there's a time to born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is plant'.

However the context of this verse shows that the Bible is discussing the continuing circles that are common to life.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

God has not set our personal time to die any more than he forces a farmer to plant at a particular moment.

Instead the point is that we should avoid being so preoccupied with mundane matters that we neglect our creator.
Ecclesiastes 3:11; 12:1,13

We can live longer if we make wise decisions.
Proverbs 13:14. Deuteronomy 6:2

We can carelessly shorten our lives by bad or foolish action.
Ecclesiastes 7:17

No matter how wise or careful we are, though, we cannot escape death.
Romans 5 :12

Yet this situation will change because the Bible promise a time that " death will be no more".
Revelation 21: 4

PoliticsWhy Is Politics So Divisive? by Jokanem(op): 10:10am On Jan 15, 2023
Why Is Politics So Divisive?

Political divisions plague nations worldwide. According to a 2022 Pew Research Center survey, “65% of adults across 19 surveyed countries say there are strong or very strong disagreements in their country between people who support different political parties.”

Have you noticed that the political divide is widening where you live? Why is that? Is there a solution? Consider what the Bible says.

Attitudes that divide

The Bible predicted that in our time, referred to as “the last days,” many people would have attitudes that make unity impossible to achieve.

“In the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, . . . not open to any agreement.”—2 Timothy 3:1-3.

Despite the best efforts of many people, governments struggle to function effectively. People with opposing viewpoints find it difficult, even impossible, to work together to solve problems. The results confirm what the Bible stated a long time ago.

“Man has dominated man to his harm.”—Ecclesiastes 8:9.

However, the Bible points to the solution—a government led by someone who can eliminate the problems that plague society today.

A qualified leader who cares

The Bible identifies a leader who is uniquely qualified: Jesus Christ. Jesus has the power, the authority, and the desire to bring unity and peace to all mankind.

“In his days the righteous will flourish, and peace will abound.”—Psalm 72:7.

“All the nations will serve him.”—Psalm 72:11.

Jesus is an ideal leader because he cares about and wants to help people, especially those who have been treated unfairly.

“He will rescue the poor who cry for help, also the lowly one and whoever has no helper. He will have pity on the lowly and the poor, and the lives of the poor he will save. From oppression and from violence he will rescue them.”—Psalm 72:12-14.

How to Promote Peace in the Family

DO YOU think that the Bible can help to promote peace in the home? Consider which points might help you to avoid conflict, keep the peace, and reinforce lasting bonds.

BIBLE PRINCIPLES THAT PROMOTE PEACE

(1) DEVELOP A POSITIVE VIEW OF EACH OTHER.

“Do nothing out of contentiousness or out of egotism, but with humility consider others superior to you, as you look out not only for your own interests, but also for the interests of others.”—Philippians 2:3, 4.

(2) LISTEN ATTENTIVELY WITH AN OPEN MIND.

“Continue reminding them . . . not to be quarrelsome, but to be reasonable, displaying all mildness toward all.”—Titus 3:1, 2

(3) CULTIVATE PATIENCE AND MILDNESS.

“By patience a commander is won over, and a gentle [“mild,” footnote] tongue can break a bone.”—Proverbs 25:15.

(4) NEVER STOOP TO VERBAL OR PHYSICAL ABUSE.

“Put them all away from you: wrath, anger, badness, abusive speech, and obscene talk out of your mouth.”—Colossians 3:8.

(5) BE EAGER TO FORGIVE AND TO SETTLE DIFFERENCES QUICKLY.

“Continue putting up with one another and forgiving one another freely even if anyone has a cause for complaint against another.”—Colossians 3:13.

(6) MAKE A PRACTICE OF UNSELFISH GIVING AND SHARING.

“Practice giving, and people will give to you. . . . For with the measure that you are measuring out, they will measure out to you in return.”—Luke 6:38.

(7) DO NOT GIVE UP PROMOTING PEACE IN THE HOME

“Those who promote peace have joy.”—Proverbs 12:20.

Conflict is rampant today in the family setting. In order to have a peaceful home, effort and Bible guidance is needed. Bible is the key for family happiness. Following its instructions will benefit us

Christianity EtcWhat Is God's View Of Smoking? by Jokanem(op): 2:40pm On Jan 07, 2023
What Is God’s View of Smoking ?

Smoking here refers to inhaling tobacco smoke directly from cigarettes, cigars, pipes, or water pipes. However, it also implies the use of chewing tobacco, snuff, electronic cigarettes that contain nicotine, and other products.

Even though the Bible never mentions tobacco, it helps us to understand how God views smoking. For many, that knowledge provided the incentive they needed to resist or quit the habit. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) Let us consider three well-known harmful effects of smoking and see what the Bible says about them.

SMOKING IS ADDICTIVE

Tobacco contains one of the most addictive drugs known—nicotine. It acts as a stimulant as well as a depressant. Smoking delivers nicotine to the brain quickly and repeatedly. Since each puff supplies a single dose of nicotine, the average one-pack-a-day smoker inhales the equivalent of about 200 doses a day, a higher dosage than in any other drug use. Such frequent dosing makes nicotine uniquely addictive. Once hooked, a smoker experiences withdrawal symptoms if his craving for nicotine is not satisfied.

“You are slaves of the one you obey.”—Romans 6:16

Can you really obey God if you are enslaved by tobacco addiction?

The Bible helps us to have the correct view of the matter when it says: “Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey?” (Romans 6:16) When an individual’s thinking and actions are dominated by a craving for tobacco, he soon becomes a slave to a degrading practice.

However, God, whose name is Jehovah, wants us to be free, not only from practices that harm our body but also from those that corrupt our spirit, that is, our dominant mental inclination. (Psalm 83:18; 2 Corinthians 7:1) Thus, as a person grows in appreciation and respect for Jehovah, he recognizes that Jehovah deserves his best and that he cannot give God his best while remaining enslaved to a lethal habit. That realization helps to give a person the will to resist hurtful desires.

SMOKING DAMAGES THE BODY

“Smoking cigarettes . . . has been scientifically proven to harm nearly every organ in the body and to increase morbidity and mortality,” says The Tobacco Atlas.

It is well-known that smoking causes noncommunicable diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and lung ailments. But according to the World Health Organization (WHO), smoking is also a major cause of death from communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis.

“You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.”—Matthew 22:37

Are you showing love and respect for God if you abuse your God-given body by indulging in a defiling habit?

Through his Word, the Bible, Jehovah God teaches us to have a proper view of our life, our body, and our faculties. His Son, Jesus, pointed to this when he said: “You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.” (Matthew 22:37) Clearly, God wants us to make good use of our life and body and to treat them with respect. As we learn about Jehovah and his promises, we come to love and value all that he has done for us. This motivates us to keep free from anything that defiles our body.

SMOKING HARMS OTHERS

Exhaled smoke and smoke that comes from smoldering tobacco are toxic. Inhaling such secondhand smoke can cause cancer and other diseases, and each year it kills 600,000 nonsmokers, mostly women and children. A report by WHO warns: “There is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke.”

“You must love your neighbor as yourself.”—Matthew 22:39

Do you really love your neighbor and family if you expose them to the dangers of secondhand smoke?

According to Jesus, love of neighbor—our family, friends, and others around us—is second only to love of God. “You must love your neighbor as yourself,” he said. (Matthew 22:39) If we pursue a habit that hurts those close to us, we are not showing neighborly love. Genuine love moves us to follow the Bible’s admonition: “Let each one keep seeking, not his own advantage, but that of the other person.”—1 Corinthians 10:24.

SMOKING EXTINGUISHED FOR GOOD!
We can break free from this degrading habit that is hurting us and others not simply because we know it's harmful but if we love Jehovah and desires to please him.

The vital role of love is emphasized at 1 John 5:3, which states: “This is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome.” Of course, following Bible principles will not always be easy, but when a person is moved by strong love for God, obedience will not be a burden.

Through a global educational campaign, Jehovah God is now helping millions of people to break free or keep free from enslavement to tobacco. (1 Timothy 2:3, 4) Very soon, by means of his Kingdom—a heavenly government under his Son, Jesus Christ—Jehovah will eliminate the greedy commercial system that is responsible for enslaving millions to tobacco. He will extinguish the smoking epidemic for good and raise obedient humankind to perfection in body and mind.—Isaiah 33:24; Revelation 19:11, 15.

If you are struggling to quit smoking, take heart. By learning to love Jehovah and to appreciate his view of smoking, you too can find the motivation you need to succeed. Be assured that if you want Jehovah’s help to break free from tobacco addiction, he will supply the power and strength you need.—Philippians 4:13.

Can Education and Money Guarantee a Secure Future?

Many think that those who are well-educated and rich have a secure future. They believe that a university education can help a person become a better worker, a better family member, and a better citizen. They may also feel that a good education will lead to a better-paying job and that those who make a lot of money will be happy.

A CHOICE MANY MAKE
Some believed that they need a university degree to get out of poverty and that a high-paying job would guarantee a happy and satisfying life.

To improve their chances of gaining a secure future, many are eager to attend famous universities, perhaps in other countries.

Parents often make great sacrifices so that their children can attend university overseas. To pay for such education some family had to go deep into debt.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?

Many who pursued advanced education and wealth are left frustrated.

Education can improve life in some ways, but it does not always bring the results that students expect.

For example, after years of sacrifice and incurring significant debt, many cannot find the job they wanted.

Graduate unemployment appears to be a growing issue.

Many have no choice but to accept a job that has nothing to do with their degree.

Those who can obtain a job in their chosen profession may still find that their life has not turned out as they had hoped.

Even those who are rich or have achieved the so-called good life still face family problems, health tragedies, and economic uncertainty.

Some who enjoy material things, are frustrated by competition, jealousy, and bullying.

In some cases financial security, in reality has opposite effect such as insecurity, health disorders, emotional exhaustion, and depression.

WHY EDUCATION AND MONEY ARE NOT ENOUGH

To be sure, people need a basic education and money to provide for themselves and their family. However, these are not enough to guarantee a secure future. Why not? Consider what the Holy Writings say.

HIGHER EDUCATION DOES NOT ALWAYS BRING SUCCESS.

“The swift do not always win the race, . . . nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all.”—ECCLESIASTES 9:11.

Those who seem most qualified to succeed often do not, and usually for reasons they cannot control. Economic instability, social injustice, and prejudice can prevent even the best educated people from doing what they want to do.

WEALTH MAY NOT LAST.

“Do not wear yourself out to gain wealth. Stop and show understanding. When you cast your eyes on it, it is not there, for it will surely sprout wings like an eagle and fly off into the sky.”—PROVERBS 23:4, 5.

Any security that money provides is temporary. Upheavals in the financial world can wipe out a person’s life savings overnight. Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, wildfires, and cyclones, can leave a person bankrupt and homeless.

MONEY OFTEN BRINGS PROBLEMS.

“The plenty belonging to the rich one does not permit him to sleep.”—ECCLESIASTES 5:12.

“Do not wear yourself out to gain wealth.”—PROVERBS 23:4

I think that there is more to life than pursuing higher education and riches. Rather than focus life on material things, i seek a better future by striving to be a good person and to do good to others and as well be satisfied with what I have.

What about you? How do you view education and Money?

Jobs/VacanciesHow To Cope With Unemployment by Jokanem(op): 11:18am On Jan 04, 2023
How to Cope With Unemployment

Loose of job cuts across all races, ages and economic levels without mercy, affecting increasing numbers who never before thought they would be involuntarily jobless. The consequences can leave lasting marks on individuals and families long after the job problem has been solved. Can anything be done to cope?

Your Frame of Mind

First of all, you need to maintain a positive outlook. If potential employers note your negative disposition, they may mark you as a loser and wrongly conclude that you are unsuitable for employment. So do not overreact or let yourself be overwhelmed. It is not the end of the road. Take comfort from the fact that your joblessness is not unique. Of course, losing your job can be one of life’s most traumatic experiences. But if you are still alive and have some assets, all is not lost.

You can fight fear and anxiety. They cause negative feelings that gnaw away at your self-confidence. Be aware of the pitfall of self-blame. Resist the urge to blame others. Do not view your unemployment as a permanent roadblock, but as one that can be removed even if it will take time.

Some who are unemployed withdraw from family and friends. Don’t be afraid instead to ask for help. Do not hide. If your children are old enough to understand and help, inform them. Seek their cooperation. Talk with others about your feelings, your thoughts and your fears. No one will know what you’re going through unless you talk about it. Welcome the emotional support of people who care about you. An ancient maxim observes: “A true companion is loving all the time, and is a brother that is born for when there is distress.” (Proverbs 17:17) If you are a family member or a friend of someone unemployed, are you proving to be such a “true companion” by being empathetic and supportive? Family and friends can help you to overcome the distressful shock of unemployment.

Practical Suggestions

When bills arrive don’t ignore them and pretend the problem will go away. How would you feel if someone who owed you money was evasive and kept you in the dark as to the reason why he was not paying the debt on time? You reap benefits from applying this good counsel: “Always treat others as you would like them to treat you.” (Matthew 7:12, The New English Bible) Therefore, if you cannot pay your bills, talk to your creditors. If you will only communicate with them, they are often willing to work out an alternate repayment plan until you find a regular job again.

Next, take a realistic look at your situation. Start working out plans to use your assets. And, indeed, you have at least one valuable asset—job experience. With that you can start looking for another job.

Eliminate unnecessary expenses

Now, jobless or not, take a look around you and see what must be done to lower or even eliminate costs. This might call for an adjustment in your life-style, but you must realistically deal with the emergency. Here are some suggestions. Try to cut down heating or air-conditioning bills if possible. In some homes this may be done simply by changing the thermostat a few degrees. Also, consider alternate fuels that may be cheaper than your present one.

Some people spend up to $400 per year on cigarettes, $500 a year on alcoholic beverages and $1,500 a year on eating in restaurants. There is much they could do about these costs to help make ends meet!

Families might consider how many TV sets they have. Is it necessary to have more than one on at the same time? Or will not one set do for the family? Many even live without one! How many telephones do you have? Will one suffice? How many cars do you have? What about luxury items? The snowmobile? The trailer? Other recreational equipment? These all create expenses for fuel, repairs and insurance. In addition to reducing costs, the sale of these and other surplus items can restore something to your income.

Food Saving

Families can pool together and make purchases of large quantities of basic foods at wholesale prices and then divide the food among themselves. Look for specials at sales. Buy ‘in season’ and freeze, can or preserve the food. Some buy all their fruit, vegetables, meats and poultry direct from a farmer at great savings. Even more can be saved when you pick your own at some farms. This can also make for a healthy outing for the family. Some farmers are willing to let you glean what is left over after the harvest—at no charge! Check out this possibility.

Some families use their own land, or rent plots of ground where available, and raise all their own vegetables and poultry. Canning and freezing will save money when you have more food than you can consume fresh. If you cannot afford to rent ground, ask farmers, friends and relatives if you may use a small plot of ground free of charge.

Reduce Clothing Costs

These can be noticeably reduced by making your own clothes and by trading clothing with other families with growing children. If you do buy some items of clothing, wait for sales. Also, try secondhand stores that handle quality clothes. Often people sell their used goods at what are commonly called in some places flea markets or garage sales. Children quickly outgrow their clothes, so good buys are often available. (Garage or yard sales are also good places for picking up some inexpensive toys for the children.) But shop with care! Only buy what you really need. Guard against impulse buying.

Shelter Savings

Some have had to make the sacrifice of giving up homes with high mortgage payments or rents and moving to more affordable apartments, house trailers or rural homes. Others have had to move in with relatives or friends—if necessary, fixing up portions of the home to accommodate two families. Sometimes this also allowed them to eliminate the cost of operating another automobile.

Unemployment Offers Opportunities

Although being out of work may be frightening, it can become a blessing in disguise. Proverbs 20:30 says: “Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways.”—Today’s English Version.

Unemployment brings you an opportunity for self-discovery. It gives you time to reevaluate your life and rethink things. It gives you a chance to focus on your untapped skills and explore a variety of employment options you never had time to think about before. Perhaps you may discover that another line of work would be more suitable and even more enjoyable for you.

Unemployment gives you the opportunity to deepen family relationships. All too often people are just too busy or too tired after a day of hard work to get to know their spouse or children as well as they would like to. Now you can do things with and for family members that you may not have had time for in the past, like cooking a meal or building that extra closet shelf. However, you still want a job.

You may hear from some people that Jehovah’s Witnesses get into trouble with the law, that they are banned by some governments, or that they are otherwise bad people. Why this contrary talk about them?

It is not because the Witnesses disrespect the law but because they follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Jesus said to his disciples that men would reproach them, persecute them, and lyingly say every sort of wicked thing against them. This is because God’s chief opposer, Satan, is the god of this world, and he would like to turn men away from serving God.—Matthew 5:10-12; 10:16-22, 34-39; 24:9, 10; John 15:17–16:3; 2 Timothy 3:12; 1 Peter 5:8; Revelation 12:17.

When the apostles were arrested and taken to court, it was not because they were criminals, men of violence, or seditionists. It was because they were preaching the good news. When the apostle Paul appealed his case to higher courts, it was to defend and legally establish the right of Christians to preach the good news.—Acts 4:18-20; 5:28-32; Philippians 1:7.

Today, Jehovah’s Witnesses are law-abiding Christians who pay their taxes and show respect for those in authority. They pay back Caesar’s things to Caesar and God’s things to God. If they have a conflict with any governmental authority, it is because the government does not recognize their preaching work, or because of their neutral stand in affairs between the nations. But in this Jehovah’s Witnesses must take the same position as did the apostles, who stated: “We must obey God as ruler rather than men.”—Acts 5:29; Mark 12:17; John 18:36; Titus 3:1, 2.

Jehovah’s Witnesses do not seek persecution but would prefer to lead a calm and quiet life. However, if because of their following God’s law and the example of Jesus Christ they are persecuted, they are happy to endure it.—Matthew 5:10-12; Acts 5:40, 41; 1 Corinthians 4:12; 1 Timothy 2:2; 1 Peter 3:14, 15; 4:12-16.

We don't want to please anybody but Jehovah God. That's why anything he dislikes we dislike too no matter how people feel about it.

Since Jesus Christ stated that his true followers will be persecuted, when we face reproach, lies , blackmail and persecution, we welcome it as an indication that we are in the right track.

What have people not done or say to Jesus when he was on earth?

Christianity EtcWho Is Jehovah ? by Jokanem(op):
Who Is Jehovah?

Jehovah is the true God of the Bible, the Creator of all things. (Revelation 4:11)

The prophets Abraham and Moses worshipped him, as did Jesus. (Genesis 24:27; Exodus 15:1, 2; John 20:17)

He is the God, not just of one people, but of “all the earth.”—Psalm 47:2.

Jehovah is God’s unique name as revealed in the Bible. (Exodus 3:15; Psalm 83:18) It comes from a Hebrew verb that means “to become,” and a number of scholars suggest that the name means “He Causes to Become.” This definition well fits Jehovah’s role as the Creator and the Fulfiller of his purpose. (Isaiah 55:10, 11)

The Bible also helps us to know the Person behind the name Jehovah, especially his dominant quality of love.—Exodus 34:5-7; Luke 6:35; 1 John 4:8.

The name Jehovah is an English translation of the Hebrew name for God—the four letters יהוה (YHWH), known as the Tetragrammaton. The exact pronunciation of the divine name in ancient Hebrew is not known. However, the form “Jehovah” has a long history in the English language, first appearing in William Tyndale’s Bible translation of 1530.

Why is the pronunciation of God’s name in ancient Hebrew unknown?

Ancient Hebrew was written without vowels, using only consonants. The Hebrew-speaking reader could easily provide the appropriate vowels. However, after the Hebrew Scriptures (“Old Testament”) were completed, some Jews adopted the superstitious belief that it was wrong to utter God’s personal name. When they read aloud a scripture that contained God’s name, they substituted expressions such as “Lord” or “God.” As centuries passed, this superstition spread and the ancient pronunciation was eventually lost.

Some feel that the divine name was pronounced “Yahweh,” while others suggest different possibilities. A Dead Sea Scroll containing a portion of Leviticus in Greek transliterates the name Iao. Early Greek writers also suggest the pronunciations Iae, I·a·beʹ, and I·a·ou·eʹ, but none of these can be proved to be the pronunciation used in ancient Hebrew. *

Misconceptions about God’s name in the Bible
Misconception: Translations that use “Jehovah” have added this name.

Fact: The Hebrew word for God’s name in the form of the Tetragrammaton appears some 7,000 times in the Bible. * Most translations arbitrarily remove God’s name and replace it with a title such as “Lord.”

Misconception: Almighty God does not need a unique name.

Fact: God himself inspired Bible writers to use his name thousands of times, and he directs those who worship him to use his name. (Isaiah 42:8; Joel 2:32; Malachi 3:16; Romans 10:13) In fact, God condemned false prophets who tried to make people forget his name.—Jeremiah 23:27.

Misconception: Following the tradition of the Jews, God’s name should be removed from the Bible.

Fact: It is true that some Jewish scribes refused to pronounce the divine name. However, they did not remove it from their copies of the Bible. In any case, God does not want us to follow human traditions that deviate from his commandments.—Matthew 15:1-3.

Misconception: The divine name should not be used in the Bible because it is not known exactly how to pronounce it in Hebrew.

Fact: This line of reasoning assumes that God expects people who speak different languages to pronounce his name identically. However, the Bible indicates that God’s worshippers in the past who spoke different languages pronounced proper names differently.

Consider, for example, the Israelite judge Joshua. First-century Christians who spoke Hebrew would have pronounced his name Yehoh·shuʹaʽ, while those who spoke Greek would have said I·e·sousʹ. The Bible records the Greek translation of Joshua’s Hebrew name, showing that Christians followed the sensible course of using the form of proper names common in their language.—Acts 7:45; Hebrews 4:8.

The same principle can be applied to translating the divine name. Far more important than the exact pronunciation chosen is that God’s name be given its rightful place in the Bible.

Maynman:
Baldheads worshippers deceiving themselves amaong themselves.
You can call us whatever. But the truth is that it's not the literal earth that will be destroyed or pass away but a figurative Earth which is people.

So the “heavens” that will pass away “with a hissing noise” are human governments. As for the “earth” composed of ungodly mankind, it, too, will perish. The “earth [wicked human society] and the works in it will be discovered.”

The Bible’s words about heaven and earth ‘passing away’ apparently refer to the end of today’s corrupt human governments and their ungodly supporters. (2 Peter 3:7)

The passing away of the symbolic heavens and the destruction of ungodly mankind will pave the way for making our earthly planet a most delightful home for those seeking to do God’s will. The earth will be transformed from a place where sorrow, pain, sickness and death prevail, into a paradise free from such things.—Rev. 21:4.

So the earth, in harmony with God’s purpose, will continue to exist. If you desire to remain an abiding part of his creation, heed the inspired admonition: “Do your utmost to be found finally by him spotless and unblemished and in peace.” (2 Pet. 3:14)

ROFLMAO
grin cheesy cheesy cheesy grin grin cheesy cheesy
Long before scientists recognized the “tendency toward disorder” in all physical things, a Bible psalmist wrote: “You [that is, God] laid the foundations of the earth itself, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They themselves will perish, but you yourself will keep standing; and just like a garment they will all of them wear out. Just like clothing you will replace them, and they will finish their turn. But you are the same, and your own years will not be completed.”—Psalm 102:25-27.

In recording these words, the psalmist was not contradicting God’s everlasting purpose for the earth. Rather, he was contrasting God’s eternal existence with the perishability of all the matter that God had created. Without God’s eternal renewing power, the universe—including the solar system that we depend on for stability, light, and energy—would descend into total disorder and ultimate destruction. Thus, if left to itself, our earth would “wear out,” or come to a permanent end.

There are other verses in the Scriptures that may also appear at first glance to contradict God’s stated purpose for the earth. For example, the Bible speaks of heaven and earth as ‘passing away.’ (Revelation 21:1) Surely these words do not contradict Jesus’ promise: “Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5) What, then, does the Bible mean when it speaks of heaven and earth as ‘passing away’?

The Bible frequently uses the expression “earth” in a figurative sense, meaning human society. For example, consider the following verse: “All the earth continued to be of one language and of one set of words.” (Genesis 11:1) Obviously, “earth” here refers to the people who were living on the earth. Another example is Psalm 96:1, which according to the King James Version states: “Sing unto the LORD, all the earth.” Clearly, in this and many other passages, the word “earth” is used figuratively to refer to people.—Psalm 96:13.

The Bible sometimes likens the ruling powers on earth to the heavens or to heavenly bodies. For example, the oppressive Babylonian rulers were described as being starlike because they elevated themselves above those around them. (Isaiah 14:12-14) As foretold, the figurative Babylonian “heavens,” or ruling class, and “earth,” the supporters of that rulership, came to an end in 539 B.C.E. (Isaiah 51:6) This allowed repentant Jews to return to Jerusalem, where a “new heavens,” a new ruling body, ruled over “a new earth,” a righteous society of people.—Isaiah 65:17.

The Bible’s words about heaven and earth ‘passing away’ apparently refer to the end of today’s corrupt human governments and their ungodly supporters. (2 Peter 3:7) That will open the way for God’s new heavenly government to bless a righteous new human society, for “there are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to [God’s] promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell.”—2 Peter 3:13.

Thus, you can have faith in God’s promise that our earthly home will last forever. Moreover, the Bible shows what you must do to share in that wonderful time when the earth will be transformed into a global paradise. Jesus said: “This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.” (John 17:3)
