Unreal is a full featured Engine... Its not strong at 2D, but it is good at 3D. Almost all 3D genres are doable with Unreal

seems you decide to stick with unreal, that's a great choice. I do however hope you have a good system (i.e core i5-i7 @ 2.5ghz and a 1-2gb middle-high class nvidia or ati card from nothing less than 2012), cus unreal unlike unity is hardware intensive and requires a lot of fire power.

Unreal engine 4 is completely free and has 5% royalty of your game profit, and it is best for creating a first person shooter game, and it is high in graphics..WHILE Unity has a free verson which is free of charge to use, and also has a pro version which the license has to be bought with $1500, or you can pay $75/month and has no royalty fees, it is a cross platform game engine, it works in 2d and 3d, it has been used in creating a platformer games like INSIDE. What i'm trying to say or ask, is that WHICH GAME ENGINE IS BEST FOR CREATING A 3D PLATFORMER GAME?

Well, firstly, games are SCRIPTED not PROGRAMMED

secondly, C# goes with unity... c++ goes with unreal

thirdly, which is suitable depends on the engine you plan on using... Unreal/c++ combo is pretty hard to learn, for both language and engine. Unity/c# or JavaScript is much easier (especially for a newbie)... However Unreal creates better graphics and has an inbuilt feature named "blueprint" which can handle the C++ scripting part for you.

lastly, here is a link to ebooks that can help you get started with scripting with unity (I do hope you however ain't a newbie to programming)

If you have, you will know that you can only use JavaScript, c# or Boo ( whether anybody actually uses that in spite of how popular python is, I cannot say.) with unity3d. If you must use c++, then go learn unreal engine.
