Just like the way you described West African home designs as lacking the 'oomph' I'd say that most Kenyans would describe India in the same way. Ok,we are not giants or worldbeaters but then again,India? Pass! Mkenya2019: Goel, Looking like Indian is very similar to Africa - the indian middle belt - nearly equal as poor. |

I get it but I'd describe India as a disorganised China! Goel: *2036 billion in 2018, 2019 figures are yet to arrive.
Where do they stand vis a vis all other human development indicators? AFAIK, GDP per capita is always studied in PPP for a reason as India's localised industry makes the cost of living in India much cheaper. Once again, Mauritius & Seychelles are Indian countries themselves.
Pick up their poverty ratios and inequality adjusted-HDI, even half of these handful of countries will shatter in no time.
Picking a handful of countries to boast of won't help you. Coz on average, Africa stands nowhere near India. Behind in terms of development indicators and far behind if we go ahead & cover technological aspects. India's GDP per capita is still growing faster than these countries. Even these countries with higher GDP per capita than India have multiple holes in their indicators along with no industrial base. India will leave behind them too like others. There are tonnes and tonnes of indicators which you can go through and HONESTLY ask yourself, who has done better?
And now let's put all this nationalistic chest thumping aside and get on topic. As instead of replying to my question, you tried to brush it away by tempting me with ad hominem and telling me what YOU THINK about India.
I said no other African country comes anywhere close to South Africa. I hate this country for its anti-Indian political posturing multiple times. I usually try to insult them on other forums, here I've came across stupidity against them what they most certainly shouldn't face.
So, my point remains. CAN ANY AFRICAN COUNTRY STAND UP TO RSA? Can anyone of you?
India is far away in another league all together and if you think there's some sort of "competition" between India & Pak, you don't even have a clue about world around. Don't blabber about India because I won't respond. I don't think I have to preach much about it. |

Kenya’s Twiga Foods has raised a total of $30 million from lenders and investors led by Goldman Sachs. The B2B food distribution company financed $6.25 million of the funding in convertible debt and $23.75 million in equity, classified as a Series B round. IFC, TLcom Capital, and Creadev joined Goldman on the VC side. Twiga will use the funds to set up a distribution center in Nairobi and deepen its conversion to offering supply chain services for both agricultural and FMCG products. The Nairobi based company will invest in expanding into more cities in Kenya, including Mombasa. Twiga is also targeting Pan-African expansion by third quarter 2020. “We’re working on French West Africa…we see significant opportunity in those markets,” Twiga CEO Peter Njonjo told TechCrunch. The company will name the new country (or countries) in the following year, he added.https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/28/kenyas-twiga-foods-eyes-west-africa-after-30m-raise-led-by-goldman/ |

It's common to see fiber cables being laid all over! We are now on a fiber craze! rvp2018: Fiber was laid in Kenya 10yrs ago...only Lagos tech scene driven by Nigerian diaspora returnees is active like Nairobi, Joburg, cape Town and Cairo. But we are talking the future...where Nigeria won't feature..it most likely Rwanda and Kenya in SubSahara Africa. As you lay fiber to Yaba Kenya is laying fiber to every school soon...and how do we do it..we lay fiber along power lines. What you're doing now we did it years ago.. unlimited fast internet is available nearly everywhere in most urban areas of Kenya..you can get fiber terminated to you even in a Turkana. That is why Kenya speeds are better than most developed world.. Australia parliament got into big argument when research showed Kenya had better internet than them.As for Nigerians still using opera mini to stream internet...you're 10yrs late.I don't see anyone digging around installing fiber anymore.

Nice to see the UK playing catch up! Mkenya2019: The same way you don't believe common sensical stuff like electricity 24-7 is possible. Well it very possible in kenya - for slums and even deep rural to enjoy 24-7 reliable electricity for 350 of 360 days a year.
Now talking Fiber....read here.

Do we have much lighter regulations here? Should we police banks more? How will banks react to such a regulation in Kenya? Banks will still create loopholes to beat such a regulation. The rate cap didn't benefit us much contrary to our hopes as banks opted lending to the government more instead of the private sector. No market has no loopholes to beat any policy/regulation including Nigeria. rvp20182: There is no minimum LDR requirement but most kenyan banks exceed 60%. Majority do around 80%..
The problem is interest rates - I don't know how Nigeria survive with 20-25% interest rates - with CBR of 13%. Kenya has CBR of 8-9% and Interest Rate of 13% (with rate capping of course).

Good on you then! Abohboy: Yes it does sound nice it shows we are not going to be bottom lickers or spoon fed by foreign companies, same how we will not eat foreign rice, or foreign yam we can produce our own things to provide for our people the more indigenous owners of products we have the more self sufficient we are and the less money spent on imports and the more money made on exports. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 5:07pm On Oct 21, 2019 |
Well, it's only Nigeria in Africa that has its own indigenous car manufacturing plant. The rest of us just assemble. Congratulations! I hope that sounds good to you ? Abohboy: You see you people are there assembling here we are with our cars trying to produce our own products the only thing innoson imports is engine, fuel gauge and cooling system the rest of the 70% is all produced, built and made in Nigeria
Sadly Afri one is just assembled in Nigeria but it is still a step forward as he created the parts abroad and I ports the part he created not that he rebranded a phone but anyway hope innoson and Afri One can one day be 100% made in Africa, Nigeria to be exact. |

Impressive! Mkenya2019: Japanase throws 1.5B dollars investment in Mombasa including Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone. This will be ready in 2023 and will provide 100K jobs.
The Dongo Kundu SEZ in Likoni, Mombasa, which is designed to be a multi-sectoral zone comprises of Industrial Parks, Free Trade Zones/Free Port, Dongo Kundu Port, Tourism Zone (MICE), Business Service Parks; Commercial and Residential Zone.
The SEZ will be developed in three phases with the first phase expected to be ready by 2023 and is projected to inject into the Kenyan economy Shs 400 billion in local and foreign direct investments and create more than 100,000 jobs... |

The recently launched special economic zone which is part of Mombasa port will change the port for the better. With the help of the Japanese government,Mombasa port model will be of like that of Jebel Ali port of Dubai, the ninth busiest in the world. The SEZ will be a game changer! Mkenya2019: Mombasa port have overtaken Lagos port complex in cargo throughput. I think Lagos is down to 1.2M TEUS a year while Mombasa is doing 1.3M TEUS (about 33m metric tonnes). Mombasa does twice Dar Port. Durban does 2.7M.
As for Lekki deap seaport - it will not see the light of the day without FUNDING. And that can only happen when oil price goes back to 100 dollars (never going to happen).Lekki was suppose to be operation last year - but construction is yet to start.
Now LAMU already knocked down 3 out of 32 berths - built in record 2-3yrs. |
