How we are surviving on such a deficit only God knows. We are talking about a country that is 87 % arid and semi arid sitting in a volatile neighborhood and being the largest non-resource based economy in this continent. This is despite our leadership doing little! Our power is in the private sector,if only our political class knew of this and gave everything at it!
rvp2018: What do you mean revenues? You mean gov revenues? Or you mean trade - export revenues. Kenya doesn't have natural resources like you - in most typical African countries - our remittance is also very low - now approaching 3b dollars - our trade deficit is whopping 11B dollars (we export about 6B dollars and import 18-20B dollars worth of goods). Our gov revenues are approaching 20-21B dollars.
In short - Ghana is typical Africa country dependant on minerals - Kenya outside South africa has the MOST SOPHISTICATED DOMESTIC ECONOMY that makes nonsense of 11B trade deficit. If you look at say our retail & wholesaling - formal trade it inching towards 40%. Kenya is 2nd to south africa in luxury goods market.
In short - Ghana is still largely primitive informal economy held together by minning, oil & remittance - while Kenya is well diversified sophisticated market - that is secondly only to south africa - and quickly formalizing.
vaxx2: You don't compare Tz with country that has over 90 percent of its citizens connecting to national grid . only south africa can claim that in sub Saharan Africa. You don't compare Tz with country that is building nuclear power for the purpose of energy. again only south africa can pride herself on this in sub Saharan Africa. You also don't compare TZ with a country that has the biggest photovoltaic (PV) and the largest solar energy plant in Africa... look friend , Ghana electricity company is worth over 3 billion dollars in value . that is by far bigger than Any indigenous TZ company either by private or goverment.... This is the reason America is so much interested in Ghana electric sector.. .
housing estate is nothing when we are talking about real deal .... anyway be proud of yourself ......
If the federation get its act together and end the wrangles then this boys can do more. The team has changed so much with fresh blood from inexperienced players getting in the team. Up the Shujaz! I personally prefer the sevens to the fifteens!
Is that an achievement? Richard Branson was in Nairobi some days ago. I guess Kenyans should cheer?
samorobo: Lol why is the bolded not happening in one of Africa's easiet place to do business "Kenya" ?
The Twitter ceo is visiting four African countries (Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Rwanda) and Kenya is not one of them.... He goes there today and he will surely go missing
Looks like work has started,I pass through the bypass almost everyday.
Mkenya2019: Phase 2 of Dongo Kundu construction in Mombasa illustrated..featuring two bridges - and within the proposed Special Economic Zone and Free Port.
Awesome.Agriculture is a critical sector.A friend of mine tells me that food is the next oil.
vaxx2: Ghana is seriously developing is agriculture sector. and promoting it aggressively. next year, Ghana is pumping 600 million dollar into cocoa industry. it has already been approved by parliament. out of the 600 million dollar, 5 million dollar will be allocated for school feeding , Ghana school children must consume chocolate drink particularly for the benefit of brain development as it scientifically proven. 7.5 million will be going into cocoa tourism ( promoting cocoa consumption and its intended benefit) 2.5 million dollar for capturing Asia market as it obtain form Ghana cocoaboard memo. Ghana and agriculture are like 5 and 6. they are inseparable.....it has employed more people than any profession.
Olesegun Obasanjo meeting Mombasa's governor who was hospitalized! I guess the guy was enjoying Mombasa's pristine white sandy beaches and then decided to pay a courtesy call to the governor.
vaxx2: The current president already commissioned "the commercial exploration of oil at Cape Three Point in the Western Region. and it is expected that the project will deliver an additional 30,000 barrels per day of oil and 180 million cubic feet (5.07 million cubic metres) per day of gas to Ghana". The oil field is one of the third after the Jubilee and all the TEN oilfields are all in the Western region. They have been two additional oil well discover this year in high quantity.
The gas from the project is expected to help Ghana generate 1,100 MW of additional electricity which probably maybe exported for additional cash since Ghana currently produce over 5000 megawatt. well , industrialization may change the plan.
And also Mozambique will soon be shipping it to us!
rvp20182: Yes considering Tanzania have been unable to nail their gas deal, Ghana is doing well in minning/natural resources sector. It's very likely South Africa will export natural gas before the laggards.
Seems good.7 billion isn't a child's sum,what's the status of the project?
vaxx2: I laughed when Nigerians says Dangote refinery is the biggest capital investment in west africa or Africa...
""one of Ghana former president achievements include one of the biggest gas investment in recent times and the first of its scale in West Africa. It amounted to a whooping $7 billion in the Sankofa Gye Nyame Fields where the agreement on the offshore Cape Three Point project was signed in early 2015.
The project was projected to produce 50,000 barrels of oil per day by 2017 and 180 mmscf/d of gas by 2018. Two development well were drilled as at September 2015. Key commercial agreements of this project , including a gas sales agreement, a multiparty deed agreement, and a sovereign guarantee were signed between the OCTP partners and the government of Ghana""
The number was just a projected figure.Anyways, the average household size shrunk from 4.2 people to 3.9 people! WE ARE HEADING THERE!
kikuyu1: Rvp2018 gave that figure recently,IIRC. Good news of course, our demographic dividend is real and underway as we've said severally. I'd like to see a breakdown especially for Somali numbers. I've heard from insiders they now even outnumber Kikuyus!
