TravelRe: Ghana Opens The Highest And Longest Flyover In West Africa (Photos) by Joonana: 12:19am On Nov 16, 2016
onatisi:
There is nothing fantastic about the flyover. That is the truth
even if it's not that fantastic, the project should serve its primary purpose of easing congestion in that part of the city. moreover, included in this project is a police post, fire station, transport terminal, fountain, library and restaurant. Compared to what the place looked like before, this is a major improvement in infrastructure. Ghana is not yet a developed country, but is arguably the most civilised in West Africa and one of the most progressive countries on the continent.

hahaha I can even gain access to Wikipedia and edit whatever is there, so when I saw it I just laugh it off. See what the internet have done to African students, made them even more lazy than they used to be. They can't even make convincing arguments yet are fast to flaunt papers they deem wealthy for employment
loool .. i can imagine how his assignment papers looked like in school .. Copy and paste straight from Wikipedia. One good thing he did was to acknowledge the source of his information. i doubt if he ever sighted wikipedia as reference on assignent papers in school grin grin

"The petroleum industry in Nigeria is the largest on the African continent. As of 2014, Nigeria's petroleum industry contributes about 14% to its economy. "

its true or could be true, what do we know..

but its on wikipedia even till today...

we were told it was 90 something%,,,,,...
Nigeria has been the largest producer of oil on the continent. however in terms of oil reserves, a country like Libya may come on top. Even with that Angola is in a better position in terms of oil production given the size of her population. The most favourable factor for Nigeria is her huge population which provides a larger market for business. However the huge population presents its own challenges in terms of infrastructure provision and security.

You really should worry about your own country, Ghana. Don't you have enough problems sourcing money to pay your debts for Nigerian gas etc?

As for Nigeria, oil is only a small part of the economy.

''The petroleum industry in Nigeria is the largest on the African continent. As of 2014, Nigeria's petroleum industry contributes about 14% to its economy. Therefore, though the petroleum sector is important, it remains in fact a small part of the country's overall diversified economy.''

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_industry_in_Nigeria
you got your facts from wikipedia? i could tell yuo were such a lazy student in school .. please get information from much more credible sources .. grin

this is more like what the situation is:
- oil revenue contributes over 90% of Forex earnings in Nigeria ....
- the Naira has been shielded from market volatility through currency pegging ....
- due to slump in oil prices, not enough Forex is being earned to sustain the overvalued Naira ...
- as a result the Naira depreciated at the parallel market (which is a true reflection of the exchange market) and further widened the gap between the interbank/official rate and the market rate. An avenue for the greedy bankers and Forex traders to make huge money by just clicking the mouse
- the CBN/government thought they could outsmart investors. Instead of fully floating the Naira, they moved the peg from 199 to about 283 (now 305)
- Investors, not being mumu, could sense some mischief that the Naira is being controlled, hence did not bother to invest much into the economy
- Now the economy is in recession, manufacturers can't access Forex at the interbank rate to source inputs for production
- business are being restricted from remitting their funds
- International funds transfer has practically been stopped.

If the economy is indeed as diverse as your source 'wikipedia' revealed, why are all these happening? Is it that the economy is built on a foundation of straw or is a case of old-school economic policies adopted by the CBN/Government?

I guess Nigerians don't know what democracy means, especially when it's an election year. You hit the government, where it would hurt the most
i can't think far for them either ... their arguments are just laughable ..

well, the opposition party is doing its job to secure power. i see it to be good for democracy and the development of Ghana - a strong opposition serves as a check on the incumbent government. It's up to Ghanaians to make the choice of going with the incumbent government or the opposition party.

True that it took 5 years for the Ghanaian Cedi to hit 3.9 cedis to a Dollar and has stayed so for almost a year now. The Naira useed to be 50 Naira to a Cedi but now it's around 76 Naira to a cedi and quickly hitting 80 Naira to a Cedi
Cedi dollar rate was about 1:1 in 2008. So it took roughly 8years to depreciate to the current 3.9.... in spite of the depreciation, economic progress and a number of social interventions have helped lift majority of Ghanaians out of poverty. Just last week, Senegal sent a delegation to study the National Health Insurance Scheme in Ghana. Nigerians have things to learn from Ghana. Even with power, you find this type of onion light bulbs in use. These bulbs were banned in Ghana some years back because they are not energy efficient. Today all households in Ghana use energy saving bulbs. On the other hand, you find these bulbs in use in Nigeria - a country whose electricity supply is woefully inadequate.

Ghana is still a work in progress - a number of good policies are in place to keep the country on a path to sustainable development. Can we say same for Nigeria?

it doesn't really matter. Who got all this records? Human beings! A record said South Africa has largest economy, weeks later, another came up, Nigeria is having largest economy. ....but why?

But u know population matters Sha even if true.. ...like I said, if Ghana inputs their resources on Port Harcourt alone, they will crumble and rumble.
Well, it's good to defend your country just as i'm doing. The difference is, whiles i have concrete facts to support my argument, your facts are built on straw - i have enough arsenal to debunk them. You better go arm yourself and come back ..

Some people just come here to say what they don't know. They've never been out of their states yet claim to know all happening on Ghana. Before, I believed Ghana has the best light I mean electricity. Of recent, I can see that they were all propaganda employed by haters.. Tho, Ghana celebrated uninterrupted power, that's just they are small in population. What will serve only port Harcourt will serve three of Ghana - stop deceiving others. Let's get it right.... .but still, I ask, are u people patriotic at all? Some of u, I don't just get.. .... I don't really care.. ...as long as I can see the prospect of the nation.. ..

I said it and you can take it to the bank. Lagos GDP is half of South Africa"s. S.A needs 140 more billion dollars to get even close to Nigeria's.

Every now and then countries fall into recession. We just need to spend our way out of it, and this is what the govt is doing. How Nigeria come be ditch - bros no kill yourself ooh.

Many of your type dey yankee dey wash plate and do security. They said naija was a ditch before they left as they enter yankee them see say na quick sand. Open your eyes and hustle this is the time to plant your feet in the ground. If you don't you'll either eat crumbs in Nigeria or good abroad and keep eating crumbs
If Lagos GDP is half that of SA, what are the other states contributing - nothing. No wonder poverty levels average over 80% for some of your states. They are practically useless. Is that why Nigeria is the 3rd highest contributor to the population of people living in poverty in the world?
with all your gas reserves, electricity is a luxury. You subject day old babies to Generator fumes and noise. A country of over 180m people always trying to lord over Ghana 26m, SA 55m, Kenya 47m - such a pity! with all your smartness, see the kind of leader you queued to vote into office, always humiliating your country in his speech.

ghana and south Africa are not up par with Nigeria, well congratulations!!! carry it over your head like a trophy.. maybe the gleaming trophy will outshine your economic problems.. instead of you to join hands and save your country from recession.. you are in a ditch and comparing yourself with someone on the surface.. sense is not common. you peeps clamor power and authority but dont understand what it takes to hold power and authority.. That brings respect!
Sometimes you wonder what substance some Nigerians smoke for them to compare their country to SA in terms of development. Even in West Africa, Ghana stands as the best country in the sub region. On all positive development indicators, SA and Ghana rank better than Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Ghana or Nigeria? see a Ghanaian's reaction by Joonana: 12:56am On Nov 05, 2016
Good you talked about GDP per capita. How about the following development indices, hw does Nigeria compare with Ghana:
- Access to electricity, potable water and health care
- level of poverty
- literacy rate
- Life expectancy
- Human development Index and Gini index
- Security and crime
- HIV prevalence
- Maternal and infant mortality rate
* ABOVE all, which passport is more powerful Ghana/Nigeria?

LoveDecay:
Your so dumb - you cant use the value of currency alone to determine what country is better.

Ghana GDP is 54billion usd, Nigeria is 543 billion USD and Lagos is 145 billion USD

GDP per capita for Ghana is 1800 and Nigeria is 3000

Based on these metrics, Lagos alone is better than Ghana. Talkless of Nigeria - the giant of Africa

Useless Nigerian children that refuse to read there books
PoliticsRe: Ghana or Nigeria? see a Ghanaian's reaction by Joonana: 12:37am On Nov 05, 2016

That exactly why both of you are dumb because you are concentrating on the depreciation of the Nigerian naira to Ghana cedis.
The Nigerian Naira has never been redenominated. Ghana redenominated in 2012, where 10,000 cedis = 1 Ghana Cedis.
The change the value of the notes not the value of the economy. Its like Nigeria saying , 1 naira is now equivalent to 100 Naira . We simply changed the "unit" of measurement. That's why I not only compared GDP but GDP per capita
Do you know what GDP per capita is ? grin
Like I said, your both dumb and don't know shayt.
Has that Ghanaian lived in Nigeria before? if he's complaining this much about Ghana, what would he make of nigeria if he ever lived here
- that Ghanaian does not know what recession is
- he is not aware that access to electricity in Ghana is second to only South africa in Sub saharan africa
- has he looked at the literacy rate, access to health care/education, poverty levels for the two countries?
- what of Life expectancy and Human Development Index for Ghana and Nigeria

The truth is that Ghana and some other African countries are ahead of Nigeria in terms of development. As a way of hiding their deficiencies and incompetence, Nigerian leaders use gross quantitative measures (giving the country's huge population) and distort facts on real development measures just to make the citizens feel good about the country.
