I disagree with Akinalabi on the issue of being duped by builders because with the knowledge gained from our highly esteemed "profs", i have been able to see a project through at a very reasonable price despite the fact that I don't have very good knowledge about building.

yes ,I also disagree with akinalabi,if u have been duped by a builder or whoever its because you were either was looking for a cheaper builder or you got a quack for a builder.this is a career I have been doing for 10years and I always advice clients to have a boq(bill of quantity)this will give them a true pics of how much will finish a building,then the client follows up with the expenses,the builder and the stage of construction and at the end of the day the client gets the worth of the building he/she spends money on and the builder to will get whatever are his benefits from the job or do u expect the builder to do d job without making money or at a loss?

so mr akinalabu,so I will advice that whenever you want to do a project,get a bill of quantity and then you and your builder will agree on a good price fro the project tthen you pay ur contractor stage by stage based on the milestone set for the project.

its a good idea ,it gives u room for addition and subtraction and u can use your own type of colour for paint in each part of the building.its more or less like you bought a building at its carcass stage.i do a lot of works like that where the client buys the house uncompleted and we finish it up for the clients.i have done jobs like that at lekki axis and im about starting another at suncity abuja

Its better we chat on whatsapp because I still need to ask you some question cos there are certain things you need to have done before you can start the construction. Things like the approval of the building etc does the design have structural, mechanical and electrical drawings.

@chriscode2:i don't think there is anybody that can give you a precise cost of the amount that will finish that project. the project being in a water logged area means you will spend more on the foundation.to be on the safe side what you need is a bill of quantity for the project ,this will guide you and give you idea of how much it will cost to complete the building.

i will prefer u build ur own house cos it will be to ur taste and u can personally try to visit ur site while construction is going on u can learn one or two things.for example i have a project near one of my site im building for a client and the house is meant to be built and later sold for interested buyers,if u see the way the house was built u would never want to buy houses but build.the plumbing was so badly done dat the plumber was using heat from fire to joing the pipes together and now buried into the wall,as time goes on the pipes in the wall will pull out thenn u start have leakages in the wall then u start breaking the wall to repair the pipes.

i told my wife who knows the omolayo family that my suspect would be the house help.I said if the house help would have to go and pick sharon from school in a cab then it will be impossible for the cab man to kidnap both of them. so i suspect maybe sharon's dad or mum had offended him (househelp) in one way or the other and the househelp is trying to get back at them.

hnmmmmmmmmmm the way things are going i dont get cos pple love money so much that they can go to any extent to get money.

if its a 4 bedroom bungalow,its going to cost you like 3.5 to 4 million naira based on the type of fittings you want. if its a 4nos block of flats of 3 bedroom each it will cost say 8 to 10 miilion also depending on your type of finishing.

i really appreciate your effort towards speaking about this topic cos it has been an issue disturbing to me.presently i have decided to diversify into project management.Architecure as a course or profession is a night mere.while you are in school, you have lecture who want to victimize you so it will be hard for you to plan,when you graduate,then you have some top members of the NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS(NIA) who wants to frustrate your effort of being a registered architect in nigeria because you graduated from a polytechnic etc.Well im a victim of this circumstance,i tried to get the NIA form and i was told it will take me 6yrs to become registered because i graduated from a polytechnic whereas a masters holder will just do it under a year.

As for me i have decided to combine my architecture with project managment so when i can't any archy job then i will do PM or rather go into full time construction.

Architecture as a career is quiet frustrating in nigeria because a client would rather spend thousands and millions buying materials (blocks,cement) etc for their housing project than rather paying an architect for doing their house designs for them.what clients dont know is that consulting an architect to do their house designs saves them alot of money and gives the engineer or builder ease while building the client's house.The most painful part of the issue is that most educate client allow themselves to be decieved by briclayers and artisans into believeing they dont need an architect that they can use their experience to design a building for the client since they have been building for the past 20yrs(i called them the baba Risika's).

Well i won't let the situations of things to hinder me from being an architect so i have been able to establish my own company(ARCHCRETE LIMITED) registered with C.A.C and i'm into construction,architecture,projectmanagement and interiors.
