https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/nigerian-police-660x372.jpg ‘The policeman is your friend!’ This statement is dreaded by many Nigerians. This perception is as a result of some reported encounters that many people have had with men of the cloth which led to nasty end-results. While many have a bitter-sweet relationship with the law enforcers, most admit the vital role the police play in protecting lives and property. Which is why Nigerians need to engage with them to safeguard the country. Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares 5 tips on how to deal with a Nigerian policeman. Stop when he flags you Policemen have the right to stop and search anyone by virtue of being a law enforcement agency. So, whenever a policeman flags you to a stop, do not hesitate to hit the brakes. Before setting out on your journey, ensure your car particulars are up-to-date and you have a fire extinguisher as well. This will not give them a loophole to exploit. However, ensure that you watch them with an eagle eye so that they will not implicate you. Speak English ‘Pidgin English’ otherwise known as vernacular is the easiest way a policeman can communicate with you. With this knowledge, when interacting with them, reply the policeman in English. This will make it easier for them to let you go. They will even think you are a lawyer. However, do not allow your ‘big grammar’ to get you into trouble. Don’t argue with a gun-wielding policeman In a buzzing city like Port Harcourt, you do not want anyone to waste time. A police intrusion on a Monday morning is unwelcome by many commuters. Hence, the tendency to argue with a policeman especially a gun-wielding one is possible. It is better you allow them humiliate you rather than argue with them. What you should do is to memorize the policeman’s tag number and report him to a superior officer. But if you do otherwise, the outcome may be nasty. Know your right Ignorance is not an excuse under the law. So, try as much as possible to know your right and privileges. It will really come handy when a policeman is attempting to be smart by referencing or quoting non-existent laws. If you are not a lawyer, you will definitely fall for this. Your car may be tolled or you may end up offering a tip to the policeman. At the very least, know the necessary documents to share with share with the police when flagged down. Respect the policeman https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/nigerian_police_860867363.jpg The Nigerian policeman stays on the highway, in our neighbourhoods, in the sun and even in the rain from dusk to dawn to safeguard lives and property. Yet, Nigerians rarely appreciate them. Alternatively, if they are withdrawn from the streets, what do you think will happen? Chaos. The Nigerian police may not be comparable to their American or British counterparts, but at the very least, they are doing their best to keep the country save. |
https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/blackfamilyvacation-639x400.jpg Vacations can be overwhelming when you have a crew of companions making the trip with you. Not only is it energy sapping, it can also be quite expensive. In most cases, the traveler looks to make the process more manageable, and usually, just rents an apartment rather than hotel room or suite. With apartments, guests have the freedom to choose their own meals, planning it to suit their budget. They have more privacy, space and freedom to choose the length of their stay as a rental can be booked for weeks, months or even years. While booking an apartment can be very exciting, finding a good one can be quite daunting as you often have to choose from a seemingly endless list of options available. There are a number of things the traveler needs to take into consideration when looking for a new place, and so Jovago.com lists 4 things every traveler should consider before renting an apartment. Location Where is the apartment located? What is unique about the location? This is the first question any person on a trip must consider before doling out cash for payment. It is important that you chose an apartment that is in close proximity to essential points of interest including tourist sites or the conference venue or office building for a team of business travellers as well as market, shopping malls, bank, nightlife and more. It is also important to consider the environment within which the apartment is located to ensure adequate security and safety. If possible, check the crime reports provided by the local police department and, utilize all official government information. Cost of Rent Every traveler has a budget and this eventually informs all the decisions they make when planning a trip. While seeking an apartment, it is important to cut your coat according to your material. First determine your price span and set a maximum amount for the rent, then search within the range. Sticking to the amount you are willing and able to pay for your period of stay in rental fees ensures that you only look at viable options. Size https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Black-family.jpg The size and type of rental building greatly affects the range of amenities offered. Depending on the number of persons on your team, it is important to decide on the size of apartment you are certain would accommodate everyone and still provide a measure of comfort. If it is a group of 5 or 7 , you will need a large space to fit everyone adequately; and for business travellers who will eventually spend very little amount of time in the apartment, seeking out a large house may be wasteful even if the budget is not an issue; rather choose a small apartment, as long as it has Wifi and other business friendly amenities, it should be fine. Amenities https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/3.jpg The location is great; the price is great…but is it really worth it? The amenities available within the facility determine how comfortable you will be throughout your stay. First decide what amenities you think are essential to your stay. Once you have acknowledged your necessities and “deal-breakers”, you can categorically strike out the apartments that fail to essentially provide your needs. Secondly, when you have made identified your choice apartment, do a thorough check of the facilities. Inspect the toilet and pipes for leaks, ensure all the lights or other electronic devices are operational, check the air conditioner, the heater, the walls and windows to see if they lock properly and more. Thorough check reduces the risk of future eventualities. |
https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/nigerian-althletes-640x400.jpg Nigeria is a country replete with sporting talents however, the nation is yet to aggregate these talents into medal-winning performances at international sports events. The few young talents that have found themselves at the top have done it through their own hard work, relied on luck with little or no government support and it is adversely affecting our medal hopes at both local and international events. Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares 5 tips for grooming sports talents for Nigeria’s teams be it athletics, gymnastics, football and other sports. Academy Academies are littered all of Lagos and Port Harcourt where young talents are groomed for different sports in Nigeria. An interesting twist has been introduced in the grooming of talents by combining sports and education. This is because there is life after sports as some Nigerians sport personalities live in penury despite excelling in their chosen sports. Sports official can visit these academies to poach talents for the team or attend sporting events to identity new talents. Focus on other sports aside Football https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Youth-Athletics.png Football is no doubt the king of sports. In Nigeria, a visit to the various viewing centres at the weekend will offer a clear picture of the passion of Nigerians for football. However, the over reliance on football is affecting other sports. So much Monies are pumped into football and we are yet to get any tangible results. If this trend continues, other sports will suffer and sports talents will have less opportunities to succeed because of lack of opportunities. Training and personal development Nigerians virtually self-fund everything they need-shelter, security, water, meanwhile the government play little role in providing these amenities. Hence, many Nigerians have decided not to wait for the government. This is same with sports talent. Waiting for the government may be a futile effort. Therefore, personal development and training is advisable. Blessing Okagbare is a very good example. Now that she’s an athletics star, she is now the golden girl of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. |

The newly fashionable “intentionally messy knots” trend was seen on several models on the runways, and has since gained popularity among naturalistas in urban cities like Abuja, Lagos and Calabar. Rag & Bone, Jason Wu, and Tory Burch were key designers who championed this look. Dark Nails Last season, pale baby colors and nude nails were on trend, however, as seen in this year’s fashion shows, dark manicures will be all the rage in the coming months. Oxblood and black were seen all over the runway and although the trend seems very “unspring” or “unsummer” -like, it looks very easy and cool. Some of the designers who featured this trend include: Zoya for Zang Toi, Deborah Lippmann for Creatures of Comfort, Jin Soon for Derek Lam, Essie for Wes Gordon. |

https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/nice-hamburger-fries-330508-660x400.jpg In a city like Lagos where everyone wakes up as early as 4am, there is a high possibility to get addicted to fast food as people barely have time to prepare a proper meal. Despite the affordability and convenience of fast-foods, the health hazards are enormous. Some of these hazards are high fat content, reduced nutritional values, obesity and cardiovascular diseases. As a traveller exploring different destinations, the allure of fast food is high and if you are not careful, paying a visit to these outlets will become an habit. Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares tips on how to avoid the fast food trap. Stop over at the grocery store Cooking is fun and there are grocery stores littered all over major cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja. You can easily drive into one of them to purchase any foodstuffs you want. With your pantry properly stocked with the right meals, you cut down the tendency to consume snacks outside your home. The up-side to this is that it makes you a better manager as you create and stick to cooking plans for your meals. This may be easier for married individuals rather than singles but making home-cooked meals a habit saves you money and keeps you healthy. Plan your meal-schedule Planning your meal-schedule for the week will go a long way in helping you avoid the fast food trap. Create a flexible routine and ensure you religiously stick to it. With this schedule, visiting the food shops will not feature on your daily agenda. Patronize healthy online food stores https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/030713-global-brands-nigeria-africa-family-dominos-pizza.jpg The internet has opened up quantum of online services for many Nigerians. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/mandela-state1.jpg Long queues and delays are not new to commuters at the Nigerian airports. From the ticket stalls to the check-in counters and even canteens at the waiting area, travelers find themselves caught in long and slow queues which become not only intensely boring and monotonous as time rolls by but brings on aching feet. The stress that comes with queuing has a tremendous impact on not just the travelers but on customer service as well. Usually, these dissatisfied travelers complain bitterly and even haul curses at the attendant over the counter in the hope that it would spur them into working faster. Some others just leave the line all together for faster alternative moves. If you are travelling via any of the Nigerian airports and are dreading the seemingly inevitable long queues, relax! Jovago.com has pulled together 5 tricks to help you deal with long queues, helping you cut your way through to getting the service you desire in little or no time. Take advantage of your unique situation Nigeria as a nation has very high moral values and certain situations are duly regarded even in public places where such rule do not necessarily apply. If you are pregnant, sick, disabled, advanced in age or have a small child, you definitely have a unique situation that exempts you from queuing up for long hours like the others. Take advantage of your situation. Walk to the front of the line and let whoever is in charge in on your unique predicament and ask them politely to attend to you. It works all the time and the good thing is that others who have been waiting on the line will not complain for fear of looking disrespectful or lacking moral standards. Make friends The only thing worse than being trapped in a long stagnant queue is standing alone in it. Even if you do not know the person in front of you or behind you, talk to them anyway. Strike up a conversation and mix up with the new people around you. You can start by sharing your grief over the long queue. Keep it light and infuse a sense of appropriate humor when you can. This comes in handy when you need to leave the line shortly to use the bathroom or just grab a snack. You are rest assured that your space in the line will be secured by your new friend. Be vigilant When you are standing in the queue, you need to be vigilant to know if anyone is cutting the line or someone is trying to bring a friend in without forfeiting his own space. Being on the lookout for these kind of things ensure the line is not delayed any more than is necessary. Again, sometimes the line may move or some announcement concerning you might be made and with the loud noise in the airports, you might not be able to hear them, unless you are sharp. Check-in online Not all airlines in Nigeria have this option yet, however the giants, including Arik and Aero, have the option on their websites. Checking in online allows you to complete the entire pre-travelling transaction online. It saves you the stress of purchasing ticket over the counter at any airport such as Lagos or Abuja and eventually having to queue for check-in afterwards. Be patient Sometimes, there really is nothing you can do about the long queues, there no alternatives, no hustling airport staff to help you speed up the process for a token, and you are just stuck. At times like this, it is important to stay patient and positive. Accept the situation, do not complain, just wait it out, keeping in mind that it will surely be a memory someday. Good thing is, you can distract yourself with food, drink, music or phone games. |
In a bid to create an enabling environment for business, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has urged the federal government to embark on a sensitisation campaign with the public on the Cyber Crime Law. The Cybercrime Act which was signed by former President Goodluck Jonathan states that “any crime or injury on critical national information infrastructure, unlawful access to computer systems, cyber-terrorism, among others will be punishable by law.” While security agencies work to contend with cyber-offenders, stakeholders in the travel and tourism industry state that successfully protecting consumers online will aid in the development of the local economy. Speaking on the subject, Marek Zmyslowski, Managing Director of Jovago Nigeria said, “One of the biggest challenges e-commerce companies face is e-fraud. Although there is a consistent rise in internet penetration, we have found that many of businesses around the world are yet to invest in applications that adequately secure the data of clients. If we as a continent, are going to have the ‘first-mover’ advantage, then we will need to pay closer attention to ICT security.” Based on a report released by the Nigeria Communications Commission, although the country has the largest online population in Africa with over 70 million people connected to the internet, less than 27 percent of travellers use online payments while 73 percent choose to pay at the hotel due to fraud. In 2014 alone, financial institutions across the country lost over N159 billion to e-crime. As oil prices struggle to make a comeback following strategic moves by OPEC to protect market share against further drop in prices, the tourism and hospitality sector is yet to take advantage of the abundant opportunities for expansion. “Tourism is a powerful catalyst for economic and social development,” says Derek Hanekom, chairman of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) working group, “More than one billion tourists travel to destinations around the world every year. The economic activity they generate supports jobs, reduces poverty and creates mutual understanding among people from different cultures” and this why Nigeria government should pay attention to the industry. While in 2015 alone, the sector has contributed more than 3.1% to GDP as published in the national income accounts of the Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria still ranks at the bottom of the World Economic Forum 131st out of 141 countries. Given the nation’s cultural resources and natural assets, the country’s slow development of the tourism industry appears to be a missed opportunity for diversifying the economy and creating employment opportunities. |

https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/400-05380288c_field_img_intro_774_500-660x400.jpg The climate in Nigeria can get very hot and humid and this weather usually takes a toll on a variety of things we own – especially perishable food. As result, Nigerians have learnt to depend these heat-reactive items in the refrigerator https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/woman-fridge.jpg While the refrigerator has since proven to be a convenient place for storing all kinds of commodities, there are items that do not respond well to lower temperature as contrary to popular belief, they are better off preserved in warmer climes. You probably know some of these already, however, Jovago.com, Africa’s No. 1 online hotel booking portal has selected the 8 most common things Nigerians need to stop refrigerating. Alcohol https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/img_7782.jpg Hard liquor is much more enjoyable when chilled or infused with crushed ice, however it is not to be stored or kept in a refrigerator. Like batteries, alcohol is best stored at room temperature, that way the flavor and taste remains intact when served. Batteries Refrigerating batteries – phone, camera or regular AA batteries- is a common practice in Nigeria, especially when the battery overheats or looks like it is about to melt. Unfortunately, just as extreme heat and moisture can do damage to a battery, so also extreme cold can diminish their performance. To preserve the battery, it is better to stash it in a drawer at room temperature. Bread https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/prd_9357397__mixed-bread_01211.jpg A staple food here in Nigeria, most people tend to store bread in fridges. Unfortunately, the cool temperature has an adverse effect on the bread as it dries it out quickly and so becomes incredibly tough and extra chewy. It also speeds up the rate of decomposition, making the bread go stale much quicker. The only time it is okay to store bread in the fridge is if it is in sandwich format, and even then, it should be properly wrapped so it retains its moisture. Citrus fruits The general notion is that fruits are best stored in refrigerators to keep them fresh, however, this is not entirely true. Citrus fruits including lemons, limes and oranges tend to suffer from ‘chill damage’ and as such, a cold temperature is unfavorable. Refrigeration can often transform them to dry, tasteless fruits with dull skins and dark spots so its best to preserve them in a wicker basket on tables or shelves. Soft Vegetables https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/green-vegetables.jpg No doubt, soft vegetables including basil, lettuce, parsley and other herbs, are highly perishable. However, refrigerating as a method of preservation does more harm than good. Aside from the fact that they tend to absorb the smells of other items around them, ruining their original flavor, veggies also go dry in the refrigerator quicker and become waste. If you must put them in the fridge, it is advisable to wrap them up tightly or put them in air-tight containers before storage. Nail Polish. Most high-flying women in major cities like Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt are of the impression that heat, especially from direct sunlight, can damage the nail polish, causing the formula to thin or separate within the bottle. However, refrigeration is not the solution. The only thing it does to the nail polish is thicken it and change the chemical constituent, almost the same thing heat does as well. It is preferable to store it in room temperature and when it expires, discard it and get a new one. Honey https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Honey__Dippers.jpg Honey may be a natural resource as it is gotten directly from bees, however, it is not perishable. A 100 year old jar of honey will still be as good, fresh and tasty as one day old jar. Honey is a natural preservative and the cold temperature turns the honey paste into a dough-like form, making it hard for consumers to scoop it out. |

This automatically denies anyone access to your account via the cards and also puts an alert on them, that way, the bank is notified of any activity post theft or loss. It is important to cancel as soon as possible as most banks do not have any sort of cover or compensation for customers who lose money to thieves who somehow access their cards before the bank is notified of the theft or alerted to cancel the cards. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/AA000086.jpg[img][/img] Report to relevant authorities This is important if you have such personal identification cards in the wallet as Tax and ID cards or even your international passport. Ensure you get the contact of the relevant offices and alert them on your missing card. Most often, identity thieves use the information on these credentials to commit fraud or even severe crimes that can be very damaging to the original owner of the identification. Having a report filed usually exonerates the victim in such cases. File a police report Aside from reporting to relevant authorities, it is important to file a police report. The police report records the essential details pertaining to the theft, including information on all the credentials as well as the amount of cash lost. It serves as an important reference in case of future occurrences. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/3708883.jpg Find immediate replacements Depending on the bank you use or the credit card company you patronize, there is a chance that you can have a new ATM or credit card minted within 24 hours of request. While some banks in Nigeria and around the world, have charges for over-the-counter withdrawals, especially when the amount is of a low range, losing a few bucks is nothing compared to the stress of wandering around cash strapped or stranded. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/lost-wallet.jpg Transfer money to a friend’s account Transferring money to a friend’s account usually works if you are travelling with a companion or you know someone in the area who is willing to help you out. Pawn your valuables Pawning a valuable should be a last resort. You can sell off valuables such as wrist watches, expensive jewelry or other objects that you are sure can fetch you enough money to last till you sort out the situation. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/flying-airplane1-660x400.jpg Nigeria is a fairly large country compared to some other nations within the continent, and while road and rail are major forms of transportation within the state, flying has proved to be a great time-saving alternative. Airports across Nigeria operate domestic routes and with the recent investments in new technology – both in the air and on the ground, these domestic flights are fast, frequent and essentially reliable. Nigeria’s air transport industry as a whole has witnessed an enhancement over the years as the spate of air crashes are now far between and there have been improvements to the booking and flight experiences, especially with timeliness and baggage management. However, the truth remains that not all the available airlines are equal in relevance and status. While some still fall short in the area of flight delays, cancellations, mishandled or lost baggage, denied boarding, and customer satisfaction, there are a few that excel continuously in performance. Jovago.com, Africa’s No. 1 online hotel booking portal reveals the best airlines for domestic flights in Nigeria. Aero Contractors. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Aero_Contractors_Boeing_737-300_Milinkovic.jpg Operating domestic and international schedule services, air charter, and third party aircraft operations, Aero Contractors simply referred to as “Aero”, is a Nigerian-based airline with two wings: Fixed Wing, for scheduled passenger services in Nigeria and Western Africa, and Rotary Wing, for the helicopter services used by the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Ksa-1-660x400.jpg Before the arrival of Nigerian musicians like WizKid, 2Face and Banky W, there were others that rocked the musical scene in the years before and after Nigeria’s colonial emancipation from Britain. Interestingly, the songs they render are evergreen and continue to resonate in the minds of many people. Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal identifies 5 of this musicians who made their mark in the sixties and even up till this day. On a visit to Nigeria, you should look out for these songs to appreciate original African music. Stephen Osita Osadebe The tunes of Osadebe are highly influenced by the sounds of rich Igbo traditional culture. His stage performances are exciting to watch as the audience stayed hooked at the night clubs be performed at around the world. His most popular hit Osondi Owendi, which means “One man’s meat is another man’s poison”, was produced in 1984. Victor Uwaifo Popularly called the Guitar Boy, the Benin born artists cut his teeth in the music scene by singing about his encounter will a certain mermaid in the song Mami water (mermaid). Surprisingly, the 74 year old musician, writer and sculptor is not tired of churning out good tunes as he recently featured 2Face Idibia in the song Tupepe. Most notable is the widely received classic, Joromi. Christie Essien Igbokwe https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Essien-Igbokwe.jpg Christie Igbokwe was one of the few women that both entertained and thought life lessons with their music. Though born in Akwa Ibom, she was flawless in her communication in English, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa and Ibibio. Thus, it was not surprising to many Nigerians that the songs that won her public acclaim, Seun Rere, was sang in Yoruba language. Her acceptance broke the cultural and ethnic barriers; a rarity for Nigerian artistes. She was the first female Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and won a handful of awards in her lifetime. King Sunny Adeniyi (KSA) https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/KSA-CNN-1.jpg His prowess in his genre of music earned him the title ‘King of Juju’ and ‘Minister of Enjoyment’. The Osogbo born musician is known for dance steps and proverbial lyrics that has endeared many music lovers. Most of his songs are rendered in Yoruba language and he has collaborated with A-list artistes like Manu Dibango, Stevie Wonder and Youssou N’Dour. His album Synchro System brought him one of his greatest achievements by being nominated in the Grammy in the folk/ethnic category. Fela Kuti (Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome Kuti) https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Fela-Kuti.png Everybody knows Fela. However, what many people think about his personality vary. His struggles with the government distinguished him from other Nigerian artistes as he was in and out of prison due to his unconventional and uncompromising lifestyle. Interestingly, Fela did not call people to flood the street of Lagos to protest rather, he condemned the government with his hard hitting music whose lyrics appalled state authorities. As his Afrobeat music was being suppressed in Nigeria, he gained international publicity while Nigerians continued to appreciate his music. The height of his musical craze took the life of his mother but this did not deter the carefree Fela. Today, his music lives on as many themes he sang about are becoming reality in Nigeria as a result he his tagged a prophet by some Nigerians. Some of his songs include Zombie, Expensive shit, Water no get enemy and Sorrow, Tears and Blood amongst others. Fela is indeed an Afrobeat legend. |
https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Niger-delta-660x387.jpg The dominance of three Nigerian ethnic groups namely Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo have made other groups appear ‘inconspicuous’ as a result they constantly feel marginalized in their motherland. To promote and preserve some of these ethnic groups whose history has shaped Nigeria, Jovago identifies 5 ethnic groups aside from the big three. We show that their cultures, values, tradition and belief systems are as rich as the ‘big 3’. Ijaw The Niger Delta region is the largest ethnic group in the South-south Nigeria. They cut across three States namely Bayelsa, Delta and River and celebrate their culture mainly through festivals like the Seigbein fishing festival and Isemi festival in Bayelsa state. Ijaw people are primarily fishermen and they love their ogogoro or gin. They distinguish themselves with their bowler hat, blouse, wrapper and walking stick. Former President Goodluck Jonathan hails from the Ijaw ethnic group. Berom Jos in North central Nigeria is one of the most accommodating, cool and warm cities in Nigeria. The people of Berom can be found in the Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos North and Jos south regions of Plateau State. The Nzem Berom is a festival that the people use to connect with their heritage. It is celebrated in the 4th month of every year. Meanwhile the population of the Berom people is about 1.5 million. Ebira The heritage of the Ebiras is very interesting. In spite of the fact that their recognized inhabited geographical area is Kogi state. They have migrated beyond Kogi to reside in Kwara, Nassarawa and Abuja. Each of these places have influenced their culture and festivals. In Kogi state where the Ebira originate from, the Echane Masquerade festival is celebrated and it is associated with Ihima community in Okehi Local Government of Kogi. Kanuri Many people believe that the Kanuri people are Hausas or Fulanis, however they are not! Domiciled in Borno State, this ethnic group only makes the headlines for the right reasons. |
https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/black-woman-stressed.jpg Nigerians are generally not huge on taking vacations as a majority of the citizens pride themselves in being hustlers and hard workers. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/1213_anxiety1_NT1.jpg A number of those who have corporate jobs where they are entitled to an average of 2 weeks annual leave do not even bother to go on break or they take on temporary jobs for the period they are on leave from their day job. But the decision to totally engage in all work and no play creates a work-life imbalance, leading to increased stress, reduced productivity and inadvertently, a miserable life. The truth is, not everyone understands the need to take time off for a vacation, and while the signs are always there, they do not recognize them and continue to put their sanity at risk. To help emphasize the importance of rest and rejuvenation, Jovago.com, Africa’s no. 1 online hotel booking service reveals 5 signs that tell that you need a vacation. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/stressed-at-work.jpg You find it hard to concentrate. If you are in tune with your mind and body, you will realize that there is a period of time when you feel mentally and emotionally tired. You spend more than you normally would doing routine tasks and you find it hard to grasp even the simplest things and focusing or concentrating becomes a tedious chore. At times like this, you should take break especially if you live in Lagos. Your body is simply letting you know it needs some time off, and in cases where it lasts for more than a day and stretches into a lengthy period, be rest assured it is a sign you need to take a vacation. You become overly negative and cynical While there are people who are natural pessimists and are cynical, there are others who show the attitude as a symptom of stress, a definite sign that it is time to go on vacation. If you find yourself becoming less optimistic, you get irritated by every little thing and snap back at comments, you are constantly in a bad mood and everything frustrates you and you alone for a considerable length of time, you need to accept the fact that you are due to recharge and take a relaxing trip. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/black-woman-at-work-stressed1.jpg Unexplained insomnia It is normal to lose sleep over intense worries or as a side effect from medication, however, if you are constantly having trouble sleeping and there is really no substantial evidence for it, chances are you are burnt out and you may want to consider taking a vacation. Working excessively and not relaxing at intervals can heighten sleep problems, difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. Rather than rely on medication sold in pharmacies around Nigeria, which can cause more harm than good in the long run, clean out a period of time on your schedule and go relax in a different environment. Nothing excites you anymore The norm is to be excited about your day and tasks, especially if you are engaged in a job or field you are passionate about. However if along the line, you notice that you have lost the zest to be excellent at you job, nothing excites you anymore and your competitive spirit has even be been snuffed out, there is a high chance you are in a mental rut. The truth is that at that point, you would be doing more harm to your career than good, and the best way to get yourself back on track is to take a break long enough for you to rethink your aims in life and goals for your career. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/62.jpg You keep making unintentional mistakes No one is infallible and mistakes are common to man, however, if you find out that you keep making loads of unplanned mistakes even in situations where you are quite certain you would never have made the error on a normal day, chances are high that you may need to take a vacation. These unusual mistakes will not only persist if you do nothing about them, they could put a dent on your confidence and affect your reputation negatively. |
https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/1.jpg The widely held perception among many Lagosians is that it is impossible to have a perfect day in the centre of excellence. The reason for this is not far-fetched considering the hectic traffic, the 9am to 5pm work routine, that executive meeting fixed for 8am and the demands of family and friends. You will think twice before accepting an invite to do anything outside your daily routine. It is even more complicated if you have to report to work over the weekend. In spite of this, there are various ways to have a great time in Lagos replete with excitement, fun and devoid of stress. Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares tips on how you can have a perfect week in Lagos. Arrive early at work To escape the busy traffic in cities like Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos, leaving for work early should be your routine. Doing this will afford you the opportunity to take a nap when you arrive at work before resumption time. It will re-energize your body and help you focus at all day. Take short breaks Working as though you are in a marathon is unhealthy. You may get easily worn out and exhausted. Importantly, make your break count by going to the cafeteria to munch something or hangout with your colleagues. Mini-breaks work like magic as it helps your thought process and concentration. Reside close to your workplace If you do not want to spend your earnings on shuttling from home to work every day, your best option is to reside in close proximity to your workplace or ‘squat’ with a friend. However, if you have a car, you can leave work late if driving at night is something you are comfortable with. Indulge on Friday Nearly every worker or executive looks forward to Friday. It is the first day of the weekend and an opportunity to take time off. There are many places to relax and have fun in Lagos like watching movies at Ozone, chilling with friends at Las Vegas and appreciating nature at the Lekki Conservation Centre. |
https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/051214-b-real-natural-hair-woman-afro-makeup-beauty-mirror.jpg-660x400.png No matter how plush your business or economy class seat may be, a long flight can be very exhausting. It takes a toll on a person not just physically, but mentally as well. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/African-American-Woman-Jet-100091006411.jpg While the mental stress might not be easily noticed, the combination of altitude and recycled air in a plane can leave your skin feeling parched and dehydrated especially with the hot weather in Nigeria, which in turn affects your mood and decreases your comfort level. A healthy skin equals a happy trip, and so to help you combat the inevitable dilemma of dry skin while on a long flight, Jovago.com has 5 tricks that will certainly help you keep your skin hydrated. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Woman-washing-her-face-011.jpg Exfoliate Exfoliating is the process of gently scrubbing the outermost layer of your skin in order to get rid dead skin cells which block the skin pores. While this process cannot be completed on a flight, you can exfoliate at home a day or hours before your trip. Using just a daily facial cleanser can go a long way with cleaning out your pores and giving your skin an additional beauty boost. Try to use natural exfoliates like oat or mud based products rather than chemical peels as there is a lesser chance of irritation. Great products are available at leading stores in Lagos and Abuja. Moisturize This is perhaps the most effective way to keep the skin hydrated. Luckily there are moisturizers for every skin type – dry, oily and combination. It protects your skin from exposure to dry air as they usually contain ultra-hydrating hyaluronic acid and elements such as Vitamins A, C, and E which have preventive and repairing effects. It is advisable to apply moisturizers while the skin is still wet, that way the skin cells can absorb the lotion better. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/0aa67e30aea159e1ee4e64f0c15a1028_photodune-470841-exfoliating-skincare-s-980-c.jpg Drink a lot of water This might seem like a tedious and uncomfortable task as drinking a lot of water will naturally lead to frequent trips to the loo, and nobody likes to use the toilet on the flight. However, to keep your skin hydrated, it is important to drink plenty of water before, while and after the trip. Also, try to avoid juices, sodas, coffee and anything that contains caffeine as they speed up dehydration. Instead go with flavored water or drinks infused with cucumber, mint and lemon as these contain powerful vitamins that hydrate the skin instantly. Go easy on make-up This applies to women, although men who also wear heavy facial foundations and powder may be affected as well. Make-up including thick foundations and concealers can be harmful to the skin especially since they clog the skin pores and cause hideous breakouts. Also, a lot of make-up on the face hastens dehydration as it starves the skin of air and moisture and leads to dryness. If you cannot go without make up completely, it is advisable to go with moisturizing cosmetics such as BB creams, fix-it sprays and light lip balms. https://blog.ng.jovago.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/4-tips-to-keep-your-skin-hydrated-on-a-plane-2-size-3.jpg Move around at intervals This might seem like it has no link to keeping your skin hydrated, but moving around rather than just staying on one spot helps with blood circulation. The blood carries oxygen and a measure of moisture round the body and helps immensely with reducing puffy eyes, bloating and parched skin. You could stroll from one end of the plane to the other or just move around on your aisle as long as you get your blood pumping actively at intervals. |
