Travel / Annoying Habits Every Nigerian Traveler Should Drop by Jovago: 12:17pm On Feb 22, 2016

A majority of Nigerians love to travel whether within the country or around the world. While a number of them have good travel habits which keep them alert and prepared for possible setbacks including losing their luggage, getting sick or having something stolen, there are some who often exhibit behaviours that not only put them at risk and set them up for dire challenges while travelling, but also upsets other passengers unlucky to be on the same path as they are.

The thing is, most of the travelers who exhibit these habits do not even know that they do and so have no clue that they need to tackle them. To help set them straight, Jovago.com, Africa’s no.1 online hotel booking portal reveals 5 annoying travel habits that all savvy Nigerian travelers need to drop to ensure they enjoy a continuously smooth experience.

Arriving late

Arriving late to the airport or terminal is a common habit for most people. They fail to consider the possibility of traffic or car failure when estimating time needed to get to the airport. Some do not pack at least a day before the trip but leave it for the morning of the journey and as a result, arrive late and miss their flight or bus, creating difficulties for not just themselves, but also the officers who help them cancel or re-book their flight. In some cases, people who have to stop over at multiple locations while traveling to a country abroad, arrive late to the plane, causing delays for others or in dire cases, facing the horrible challenge or re-routing or re-booking their flight. While travelling, it pays to keep to time.

Over packing

Many women are known for extra luggage. They like to travel with a lot of bags even if it just a short trip, and this habit can be very annoying as they end up taking most of the cabin luggage space, forcing other passengers to squeeze their luggage in tiny corners. Hotel staff get discouraged, escorting them to their rooms as they worry about carrying a lot of luggage. To save yourself the stress, stick to taking the essentials and do not pack anything you can get at your travel destination.

Asking for favours

Some people make a habit of asking for favours while travelling. Some of the popular favours they ask include: ‘Please, do you mind if we switch seats, I really do not like seating next to the window, I find it super scary’, ‘Do you mind if I put my things under your seat? I can’t fit these extra bags that I smuggled onto the plane under my own seat’, Or “Can I please use your phone to call my friend so she can know that I am close to the airport, I have run out of minutes.” Most passengers who give in to these request hold a level or resentment inside or get irritated. To keep the a cordial atmosphere with people they meet, they should ensure they make proper arrangements and do not bother others by asking for favours on the road.

Ignoring Seat Etiquette

Some air passengers are the worst when it comes to observing seat etiquette. They find it hard to keep to their own space while on their seat. They fail to understand the need for the armrest between two seats and they ignore the tray tables when eating, sometimes spilling food on other passengers as a result. The worst is when they sleep on the shoulder of the neighbor sitting next to them, possibly drooling on them. When travelling, ensure you keep to your seat and observe all etiquette, that way you are not a burden to your neighbor.

Flashing money

When traveling, it is important that you hide your valuables and only use them when necessary. This is to avoid attracting the wrong set of people, and is instrumental to ensuring you do not become an easy target for thieves and marauders. Nigerians however, like to flash their money and even dress up in their expensive clothes and jewelry when travelling, especially abroad. They do this mostly to create the impression of affluence as most believe that affluence commands recognition and respect. However, unless you have body guards or some kind of immunity, it is important to drop the habit.

Travel / 5 Reasons To Skip Lagos And Head For Ibadan On A Date by Jovago: 10:06am On Feb 22, 2016

Ibadan is generally regarded as the ugly duckling when compared to popular sister cities in the western parts of the country, especially Lagos. While Lagos is indeed the hub of Nigeria and holds everything essential to keeping a visitor enthralled, Ibadan is also a good idea. Maybe even a better idea than Lagos.

When people think of Lagos, they focus on the peripheral: the great food and the opportunity for shopping, the bustling night life, the myriad tourist sites and fantastic architecture. What many do not know is that Ibadan has many of the same attributes, only with its own twist as well as profound benefits.

Jovago.com, Africa’s No.1 online hotel booking site offers five reasons why you should skip Lagos City and visit Ibadan instead:

No Traffic

Traffic is an everyday occurrence in Lagos and can steal the joy from any commuter’s day. There is no exception to area or time, almost every part of the city has a level of traffic and at almost all times within the day- not just rush hours. It can literally take you 2 hours to cover 1 kilometer in some areas. Commuters have to head out extra early to run errands or cut their fun short so as to get home early. In Ibadan however, this is not a problem. While its inhabitants witness occasion traffic, it is not a standard occurrence and it is certainly not a part of their lives. Unlike Lagos, you can actually have great value for your time while commuting within Ibadan.

Low-cost accommodation

Lagos has a plethora of hotels, from budget to luxury; however, the room rates are most times expensive when compared to room rates in other parts of the country and thus pose a challenge to travellers, especially budget travellers. In Ibadan, there are upscale hotels that offer same service as upscale hotels in Lagos, however the rates are cheaper. For instance, the The Carlton Gate Hotel, Ibadan, which is rated a 5-star hotel starts from as low as N20,700 on Jovago.com, while Sheraton Lagos Hotel, a 5-star hotel in Lagos, with even a lesser rating on same portal, starts from N48,000. Ibadan also has a number of budget hotel options that offer even more value to travellers.

Micra instead of Moluwe

In Lagos, budget travellers who have to resort to public transport end up with bus options: Moluwe and danfo buses, as the taxi option also comes as steep price. In Ibadan however, public transport is not only even cheaper, but gives the commuter much more privacy and comfort. The popular means of transportation is via Micra, a sedan taxi (not necessarily of Nissan brand as the name suggests) which picks 4-5 passengers per time. Passengers in this sedan painted white with blue stripes pay as low as N50 for certain destinations, a situation not possible with the Moluwe or danfo within Lagos.

Cheaper food

No doubt, Lagos offers a bunch of gastronomic delights for the hungry traveller, however, the food do not come cheap, at least when compared to food in Ibadan. Even though the number of restaurants, cafes, bukkas and fast food joints in Lagos may be larger than the those Ibadan, the cost of consumption is relatively higher. An average meal in a standard lagos (budget) restaurants starts from N1, 000, however in Ibadan, you can get same food with better ambiance for as low as N500. You are able to save more on food while visiting Ibadan without missing out on the local delicacies or sticking to you preferred variety: Chinese, Indian, French, e.t.c.

A better chance at love

It is no secret that love is hard to find in Lagos. Most of its inhabitants are so focused on making money or building their career and have no time for serious relationships. Single visitors to the city usually assert that the good ‘ones’ within the city are either hooked or taken. In Ibadan however, there is better opportunity at meeting “the one” as there are many options. Also, the restaurants and hang out spots are affordable and you easily can go on dates or engage in activities that encourage love and romance without breaking bank.

Travelling is meant to be enjoyed however if couples with twins are not careful a large chunk of their trip will be dedicated to taking care of them. The million dollar question is should travelling with twins and other multiples be a big deal? No. Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal presents five foolproof ideas for travelling with twins.

No need to pack double items

It’s a tradition for twins to use similar stuff like clothes, cups, shoes, strollers, bicycle and bags. So when travelling, it’s not compulsory for you pack double of every item they will need. Aside from the fact that the car may be crammed, you will be paying additional luggage fees.

Get the right flight and seats

The most frustrating time travellers with twins have is when both toddlers crying simultaneously. But this can be avoided if you book a flight that allows you to breastfeed your babies. Some airlines provide breastfeeding cubicles. In addition, get a sit where you can easily put the twin to sleep. Also, if you can, fly or drive at a time when they will be asleep. As a rule of thumb, ensure that the breastfeeding bottles are within your reach and pack them separately.

Change diapers before departure

One smart way to prevent toddlers from crying during a trip is to make sure that their diapers are dry. It will be a tearful journey for the twis if they feel wet. As a note of caution, you can replace the diapers before your departure whether they are wet or not.

Board last

For couples travelling with twins, it’s better for them to board the plane last. This is in a bid to ensure that you didn’t leave anything behind. Caring for twins can cause you to be disorganised and uncoordinated. Hence, there is a high possibility that you may leave something behind. So, get all the help you require by making sure that nothing is left behind.

In flight entertainment

If your twins are hyperactive, ensure you pack toys they can play with. The toys can keep them busy as well as in check. You have to be eagle-eyed to prevent them from straying.

Use strollers when walking

Travelling with a child is difficult let alone travelling with two. Hence, it is advisable to place them in a stroller that accommodates two. This is the most convenient way for moving them around and makes it easier to monitor them while appreciating the beauty of nature.

Use Maps and GPS

Travel / Nigeria Travel Tips: 5 Romantic Ways To Present A Rose On Valentine’s Day by Jovago: 11:53am On Feb 16, 2016

As Val’s day is just a few minutes away, millions around the world are getting ready to present roses, a charming stamp of affection and fondness to their lovers. Monsieur rose is very excited as it will find its way into different hands this month of love.

It is one thing to buy a rose, it is another thing entirely to present the rose in a romantic and passionate way to your partner. If you have ordered this resplendent looking rose but you are in a dilemma on how to present it to your spouse, you do not need to worry anymore as Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal share fives romantic ways to present a flower to your lover. It will definitely give him or her goosebumps.

Don’t send the roses in a bouquet

The norm is to present roses as a bouquet on Valentine’s day. It is time to take a break from this trend. How do you do this? Buy five colourful boxes or any number you can afford and send the flowers one stalk at a time to your partner over the course of valentine’s day. Also, ensure that you do not use the same dispatch person for delivery. Aside from the fact that you love him or her, it also adds fun to the rose presentation. Don’t forget to drop the reasons you love your partner in each of the boxes.

Deliver the rose a day before Val

Your heart is pounding as you look forward to a quixotic outing with your partner as you cannot wait to tell him or her how much you love them. In other cases, you may not be jittery but you are just an incurable romantic. To achieve this, send the roses before valentine’s day and ensure that the roses will be staring at their face when they arrive at their table. Although, you may miss the surprise reaction but you will not miss the kiss of gratitude and love.

Let her bestfriend give her the rose

You have been together for months now, then it is right to think you are familiar with her friends. If not all them but her best and close pals. Of course, friends are very influential when it comes to a lady agreeing to dating a man. She must have probably put in a word for you.

So, do not hesitate to request her to help you deliver flowers to your woman. You can only imagine how they will gossip about you the whole day. You can knock your lover out with affection by picking her up for a Valentine’s day dinner. You can present another rose to her if you want.

Leave flowers at unexpected places

The little things that lovers do in a relationship are more significant. For example, helping your partner pick up his or her laundry, clearing the plates off the table after dinner and buying him or her chocolate. This goes a long way.

For Val’s day, you can buy a vase of roses and secretly place it at different spots where you don’t expect him or her to find them. It may be in her purse, car, closet, refrigerator or anywhere you can think of.

Present the flowers yourself

There is nothing like delivering roses you bought for him or her yourself. During break time, go to her table with the bouquet of flowers, and give it to her. Nobody will narrate how she felt when she received the flowers. You will have a firsthand experience of the blushes and excitement. Don’t forget to spice it up with a bit of romance.

Not every guy is has the funny bone, and so not all can make a woman laugh, no matter how much she is in love or interested in them. The things about Nigerian girls is that they love to be happy and they love to laugh- a major reason the comedy aspect of the Nigerian entertainment industry keeps booming. Go online and research jokes and ways to make a girl laugh, employ these tips, however do not over-do it, so she does not end up laughing at you. If you just cannot pull it off, take her to comedy shows and events or find funny clips online and send to her at intervals. You will certainly keep her thrilled.

Buy her a thoughtful gift

Every girl gets excited when they see a wrapped gift with their name on it, however, they get thrilled when the gift inside the package is thoughtful as it tells them the giver listens, thinks about them and are in tune to their wants and desires. Put your mind to task and try to figure out what she has mentioned as a need, what she absolutely loves or what she fantasizes about. Purchase that thing for her, and if you cannot afford it, try and recreate it or get something real close in value to it. Alternatively, buy her a gift that will not only appeal to her vanity, but will also engage her mind. Nigerian women love to think and would be thrilled by a gift that will impact her intellectually. Generally, a thoughtful always gives a thrill.

Shock her with a dramatic love confession

Nigerian girls, while highly cultured, are generally romantic, so most of them believe in the concept of “knight in shining armor”, “Prince charming” and “Happily ever after”. Go out of your way to plan an elaborate scheme to show her how much you love her. You could surprise her at her office with a surprise party, ask her out or profess your love in the middle of a crowded road or even propose to her (if you are certain she is the one) in the middle of a church service. Ensure you also have someone taking pictures or recording so she can watch later on and share with friends. Pulling off such an elaborate scheme is certain thrill her and endear her even further to you.

Take her on a spontaneous trip

Not everyone enjoys travel, but a spontaneous trip is hard to resist, especially when you will be making the trip with someone who is close to your heart and the expenses are catered for. Spontaneity on its own fuels romance and love, and going on a trip with her will give you time to get to know her better and also show her how much she means to you. The thrill she gets from going on the trip is also an added bonus. It is a win-win.

Travel / Top 5 Pets Found In Nigeria by Jovago: 11:07am On Feb 15, 2016

Pets are not only decorative or essential perfect “Awwhh-worthy” Instagram post, they offer positive physical and mental benefits to their owners such as curbing depression, security check and serving as a guide for blind or offering assistance for disabled.

If you are visiting Nigeria and looking to get a pet , Jovago.com, Africa’s No.1 online hotel booking portal throws light on the top 5 pets you will possibly find in the country.

Dogs

The dog business seems to be budding as Nigerians love dogs, especially the exotic breeds. They are easy to train, loyal and can be an asset to the household as they also protect the home and make the life of its owners more bubbly and interesting.

Rabbits

These cute, furry and petite pets are most times only seen in the households of upper class Nigerians because they need proper attention and care. Also, they are difficult to train, require unique grooming, as well as lots of exercise. They are however very friendly pets once they have gained trust in their owners.

Cats

Unlike dogs, cats are much more independent and do not need much training, grooming or exercise. They are also petite and do not consume a lot at a food. You find a lot of cats in rural areas as opposed to dogs as the families keep them to perform rodent-control duties; they are very efficient in controlling rats which tend to fester in those areas.

Parrots

This pet is much more popular in the northern parts of Nigeria. You would see hawkers selling parrots in tiny cages on the streets and in traffic. These birds are usually very colorful and can sometimes mimic human language. These attributes makes them a largely attractive pet. While parrots are not as domesticated as other kinds of animals and will most often fly away once released, they still form bonds with their owners and add their own special kind of flavor to the household.

Fish

Fishes are a tasty delicacy but some species make very good pets. The idea of having fishes as pets came with the aquarium trend in Nigeria. At a point, Nigerians generally assumed that having an aquarium as part of a house’s interior décor was a way to exhibit affluence. Over time however, the trend has waned, seeing as maintaining an aquarium is not the easiest thing to do, however, a few who appreciate the aquatic pets keep them in a water bowl in their homes. While these fishes cannot be cuddled, stroked or even touched, watching them swim around can give a measure of joy.

Travel / 6 Forbidden Mistakes To Avoid In Warri by Jovago: 9:14am On Feb 15, 2016

Warri, a city in South-South Nigeria, is the commercial capital hub of Delta State and one of the major pivots of petroleum activities in the region. The city offers business opportunities as well as wonderful sights such as the Delta Ports, Nana Living History Museum and Red Mangrove swamp, to visitors.

However, thanks to the myriad jokes about the city by Nigerian comedians and celebrities, some visitors are a bit reluctant to visit the city as they have the impression that Warri is an aggressive place and its inhabitants, belligerent. Although there is no city without drawbacks, these stereotypes are largely untrue. You can have a marvelous time in this metropolis if you steer certain mistakes and Jovago.com, Africa’s No. 1 online hotel booking portal shares a list of things to avoid doing while visiting Warri.

Prolonged Haggling

Every traveler and visitors to a city likes to leave with a souvenir and most times, the best souvenirs are gotten straight from the rural markets or local vendors. Warri certainly boast of various markets an d local vendors abound, however, it is important that you set a budget, have at least a vague idea of what you are looking to buy and you maintain proper decorum while making the purchase in the city’s markets. While the locals do not expect that you would buy their item or product without haggling, they strongly detest prolonged haggling and even worse customers who take too long to decide on a purchase. Most times, you hear vendors make comments like : “ if u wan buy, buy; an if you no wan buy, abeg, dey go” when they are utterly irritated by a tourist buyer.

Responding to pidgin with English

Warri is famed for its unique brand of Pidgin. While they are not very kind to people who try to mock the language or people who speak it wrongly, they are even much more irritated by visitors who respond to them in English (especially polished English or what Nigerian refer to as “Phonee English”) when they originally started the conversation pidgin. “who you dey follow speak spri spri” is a common retort the culprit would get. This mostly applies to visitors from around the country, they tend to make exceptions for foreigners. If you are visiting the city and you know your pidgin is not as fluent and quick as that of the locals, take time to rehearse what you want to say before you utter it, however, if you cannot, try to speak the normal Nigerian English at least, or at most, go with a local. Speaking ‘Queen’s English’ usually gives off a haughty vibe, which they mostly are averse to.

Flashing money and expensive jewelry

This mistake actually should not be made anywhere in the world, no matter how safe you feel the location is. Unless you have able-bodied guards or you are moving in an armored car, flashing money and expensive jewelry makes you a target and is a sure way to attract petty thieves and robbers. In Warri, the pickpockets and marauders are very sharp and quick, and so you may not even know when your possessions are taken from you. If you must carry large sums of money, ensure you have a waist bag or very deep pockets. If you have in a handbag, stay alert and watch the movements around you. Again, if you are commuting by public transport, ensure you hold your wallet and other valuables in your hands where you can keep a good eye on them.

Joining in a conversation without facts

The people in Warri are generally jolly fellows and will welcome anyone’s opinion at any time, especially when its offered in a friendly manner, however, they are not very kind to strays who try to join in on a conversation without knowing the facts. They would usually turn on the person and possibly haul insults at them. If you would like to befriend the locals, especially while visiting a local pub, restrict yourself to asking questions which would require them educating you, this will endear you to them. In the case where you feel you must add your opinion, ensure you are sure of it and can defend it with facts.

Issuing threats

Sometimes, you find yourself issuing threats out of exasperation and frustration; however, while visiting Warri, you may want to put a pin on your emotions. Weigh situations carefully before making any utterances, and also, ensure that you only utter words that you are ready to fulfill. While the Warri locals are not necessarily belligerent, they do not back down on a challenge, and so a simply altercation could turn into a dire situation at any moment. These people think very highly of themselves and would rather get physical than be put down for no just cause.

Ignorant running

The normal reaction when you hear an alarm in a public space or see a group of people run is to join in on the race and flee. While most times, the adrenalin kicks in and you cannot help yourself, you may want to think twice before leaping into action while in Warri. Rather than just run blindly, pause, consider the environment, ask questions to find out what is going on, before setting off, that way you know if there is even need for you to run, and if you do, what direction to take. There have been cases where an innocent run has been mistaken for a thief and thoroughly beaten before the truth was revealed. Keep your ear to the ground in chaotic situation and only run when you are sure you have cause to. If there are gunshots or you see people with arms, it is better to lie on the floor and surrender than run, unless of course, you are as good as Usian Bolt.

Travel / Discover Elegushi Beach! by Jovago: 9:21am On Feb 12, 2016

The high number of beaches in Lagos is a clear indication of the ties the state has its coastal waters.

Located just by the Ikate area of Lekki, the Elegushi beach is a fun-zone with exceptional restaurants, night clubs and hangout spots selling mouth-watering local dishes as a variety of live shows hold sway every day of the week. It also serves as a major venue to carnivals, hiphop fiestas, promotional shows and lots more.

Loud music, fun seekers dancing bumper-to-bumper to the rhythms of loud music, individuals who are not ready to think about their problems, crowds who just want to have a bottle of drinks or two by the beautiful sights of the water, are all common sights at the Elegushi beach. For this, there are more party crackers at the beach compared to an average club on a good Saturday.

Elegushi beach Lagos Nigeria is characterized with a breakwater you can just walk up, shacks with vendors ready to treat you like a tourist while selling their irresistible foods and drinks, fun lovers on amazing horse rides and what have you.

For fun seekers to gain entrance into the premises of the beach, an entrance fee of N1000 per head must be paid while a meager sum of N200 must also be paid to park your car.

Everything at the beach is expensive. A lot of fun seekers come-in into the beach with their food items. This obviously is a resultant effect of how expensive everything sold at the beach is, including food items. A bottle of water which goes normally for a slim price of N50 can be sold to tourists for as high as N150 to N200 at the beach. This however does not mean business owners do not still sell their wares and food items. Small chops like Ice cream and Suya still enjoy massive purchase at the beach.

As an observant fun lover, one of the first things you will notice about the beach is the sea spray. The manner at which the water glides, breaking lose very close to the sandy beach is heavenly and heart melting.

For any tourist who might want to go seashell-hunting, Elegushi beach is the perfect destination. The amount of seashells that can be spotted on the sea sand will definitely thrill a seashell hunter. The beach is blessed with a not-so-pebbly kind of sand and not-so-blue water with a lot of nice people who would not mind to show you your way around. No wonder the beach is quite orderly and clean compared to some other beaches available around Lagos.

Do you need a major attraction with class? Visit Elegushi beach!

It is advisable to travel more as a senior as you tend to appreciate new destinations and experiences more, however, seeing as you may be much slower in your reflexes, you will need to be careful while globetrotting. If you are in Nigeria and have no clue how to keep safe while on a journey as a senior, Jovago.com, Africa’s no.1 online hotel booking offers five essential travel safety tips.

Pack wisely

The fact that you are advance in age does not mean your packing game should be off-balance. Ensure you pack light and smart. Evading the physical stress that comes with dragging a heavy luggage should be enough to motivate you to pack smarter. Know what clothing would be appropriate for your destination and try not to take extras “just in case”. Use a suitcase with wheels, and make sure your carry-on bag contains everything you will need for the duration of the flight: your medication (painkillers and allergy pills), passport, credit cards, spare pair of glasses and band-aids.

Carry your contact details on you

This is possibly the most important thing to do. Ensure you carry the essential contact details relevant to your trip with you at all times. From the contact of your medical doctor, to the contact of the hotel you would be lodging in or host at the place you would be staying, and the contact details of your country’s embassy, keep them in your phone and in an address book or sheet of paper you can carry on you. This comes in very handy in case of emergencies.

Organise travel insurance

No senior wants to get trapped in a dilemma while on a trip with no clue on how to get out of the situation . Travel Insurance ensures that that risk is covered. It is no secret that the older you get, the clumsier you become, and seniors are prone to getting sick, falling and hurting themselves, or needing extra medication while on a trip, especially if they are delayed. It is essential that they obtain health insurance to cover emergency medical treatment and possible medical evacuation. A couple of companies in Nigeria offer short-term health and emergency assistance policies to cover healthcare expenses , patronize them or ensure your travel agent makes the arrangement before you set off.

Avoid travelling around at night

Night travelling can be very tasking as well as risky, and is certainly not advisable for seniors who are keen on having a safe trip. Mid-morning or early afternoon are preferable as they get the chance to actively experience the trip and they also can stay alert and sharp enough to watch over their luggage, take note of announcements and keep their contact at home updated on their trip.

Keep your contacts updated

The importance of keeping your contacts in the loop while travelling as a senior citizen cannot be over emphasized. Ensure you have a fully charged phone and you have extra batteries in case it runs out. Call home and let them know every stop you make and if there is any new development, also let them what actions you would be taking to counter the development. This makes it easier for them to help out in the case of emergency.

If you are not able to register and secure a chance at any of the dance competition, kick up your adventure genes, crash one of the competition and give yourself a chance to compete with skill dancers, and for a prize too. You might end up discovering a talent you did not know you had within you while having fun all the way.

Take a boat ride

The Jabi Lake offers amenities like speed boat rides, canoe rides as well as other water sports. Shake off your aquaphobia and go on a speedboat ride. Usually, you can go on a ride with an expert who charges a token or you can drive the boat on your own. The canoe rides are slower but as much fun as well. In a city where there is a dearth of seas side, an opportunity that offer sea breeze and adrenalin pumping speed on water can be quite exhilarating.

Picnic with a boo at Jabi Park

Jabi Park Abuja is a cool garden beside the Jabi lake. You get a chance to relax on a mat with friends and feast on whatever goodies you decide to bring, while observing the environs. The good this about Jabi Lake is that you do not need to stress yourself over cooking and packing food. Just come with a mat and a basket and you can fill up the basket with food items from stores and restaurants around. Good thing is, you can take a stroll after the picnic and enjoy the cool evening breeze.

Ride a horse

Most Nigerians are not huge on riding horses at the various beaches as they tend to automatically assume the horses are dirty and disease ridden. The case is however different at Jabi lake. The horses are not only well groomed; they have trainers who escort them round in search of patronizers. Have fun galloping around areas of the Jabi Lake and park…and do not forget to take pictures as they help preserve the fun memory.

The sugary taste of soft drinks has made some people deny their body of water. As a result, we have witnessed a rapid decline in the health of many.

There is not much in this world more refreshing than an ice-cold glass of water. A simple glass of water is more satisfying than a cup of coffee or a can of soft drink. When next you are on the road or dining at your favourite Lagos restaurant, rather than drink soda, take water. If you do not, Jovago.com, shares 5 signs you need to look out for as your health takes a hit.

Drinking water oils the skins, mouth and eyes.

Extremely thirsty

There is a measure of thirstiness that is acceptable. Nevertheless, if you are already addicted to soft drink and an advocate of not drinking water, you will not just be tasty always but extremely tasty. When you sight water, your face radiates, and the water pangs disappears as you are forced to buy a bottle of water. Why will you deny your body water when you are not travelling across the Sahara Desert?

You unusually stay sick longer

A reliable avenue for staying healthy is drinking water. It is a perfect resource that helps rid the body of waste products as well as aid digestion. If you are always dehydrated and stay on the sick for too longer, you should question your water drinking habits.

Feel fatigued

Water is as important as blood in the a body. If the water in your body system do not suffice, it borrows water in the blood. When this happens, you begin to feel tired, worn out and lethargic. Just take a break and go drink water. You will feel the impact in a flash.

You Experience Reduced Urination

If you do not visit the toilet to urinate, you should be worried. Equally, if you have to muster all your strength to defecate, it is simply a sign that you are not drinking enough water. A trip to the regular trip to the restroom means you either drank enough water or drank too much water. Importantly, try to find a balance. Additionally, if your urine is light colour or clear, it is a signal you are drinking enough water. But if otherwise, you better start drinking water before you plead for dehydration to leave you.

Travel / Vegetarian? Here’s How To Survive A Trip To Lagos by Jovago: 1:24pm On Feb 08, 2016

As a tourist destination, Lagos ticks all boxes when it comes to a great travel experience: lots of entertainment and attractions, scenic landscapes, impressive neighborhoods, and numerous transport options but one thing its is not known for is its vegan food culture.

The concept of “vegetarianism” is not very popular in Lagos, in spite of how metropolitan the city is. A majority of its people love meat and hardly acknowledge the existence of beets, radishes, lettuce and kale; except during special occassions when they include salad as a side dish. This however does not mean that all hope is lost for vegetarians who dare to visit the city. Meat may dominate menus around, but Jovago.com, Africa’s no.1 online hotel booking site has basic tips on how a vegetarian can survive a trip to Lagos.

Rent an apartment

The best option for a vegetarian visiting Lagos is to rent an apartment rather than a hotel or inn. This affords you the flexibility to cook your own meals and takes away the worry of possibly consuming something that is not completely made from vegetables. It also takes away the stress of having to explain to the hotel kitchen staff the ingredients that should be included in your meal. There are a number of apartments within the city and you can find several on here.

Be very clear about what you want

Not everyone will understand what you mean by vegetarian, so rather than simply asking if a restaurant offers a vegetarian menu, be specific about what you want to eat and what ingredients you are looking for. That way they do not just say ‘No’ to your order, when in fact they may have those options you actually are looking for. If there is nothing on the menu, make a request. Simply ask for a meal to be prepared with your favorite vegetable(s) instead of chicken or fish. This usually works with a la carte meals.

Seek out restaurants with vegetarian options

Vegetarian food is not hard to come by in Lagos; you just have to know where to look. Actually, from delis in large shopping malls like Park ‘n’ Shop and Shoprite, to proper restaurants, especially Indian and Chinese, there are plenty of places to get healthy vegetarian meals. There are also some cafés and bakeries that specialize in meatless dishes. You will find vegetarian sandwiches, quiches or other baked products that are way cheaper than whole-meat meals.

Stick to Local beverages

While visiting the city of Lagos, it would certainly be great to try local cuisines and delicacies; especially those available on the streets, however, aside from fruits and leafy vegetables, it will be safer to stick to beverages, as most times the local cuisines have meat and fish or the stock included as ingredients. With beverages however, you are safe as they are mostly made from roots and leafs.

Stops calling you

On a daily basis, he could call you as many times as possible. He doesn’t miss that opportunity to blow you a good night kiss. In the morning, you call him but he struggles to pick or he laments about you interrupting his sleep and unexpectedly ends the call. Honey, your valentine treat is hanging in the balance.

Does not give you money anymore

Whenever you are ‘broke’, you can confidently put a call through to him and within a few hours, you receive an alert. He is very reliable that you have converted him into your ‘ATM’. This does not deny the fact that you love him, it just means he takes care of you. But, if you send him a message that you need money this love month, and get no alert, you should be worried. Yes, he may not have it at that moment but if it becomes a regular phenomenon, it’s a sign.

Travel / 6 Romantic Valentine’s Day Ideas For Couples by Jovago: 1:57pm On Feb 07, 2016

Valentine is just a few days away and couples are holding their breath. On this day, the uncontrollable blushing, the tears of joy, the overwhelming smile, the depth of gratitude and the gripping affection guarantees you a special place in the heart of the person you love.

If you are searching for creative ways to impress your spouse, Jovago.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal is here to help as we roll out 6 valentine’s day ideas just for you!

Write an open letter on why you love your spouse

Have you been with your partner for months, but are yet to tell him or her how you feel? This coming valentine is your opportunity. Get a polished book and pen reasons why you are smitten by your partner. Do not forget to share fond memories you have had together. Do not focus on their shortcomings but let your respect and love for them show. You will be shocked by their reaction.

Go on a scavenger hunt

This may need a bit of planning in order to get the desired impact. Request your partner to answer riddles or to find traces of items you have hidden somewhere around your town and make the riddle or search as easy as possible.

When he or she eventually finds the item, it should include instructions that lead to a hotel or restaurant where the romantic getaway will be take place.

Deliver roses at her office

On Valentine’s day, you can order 6 roses to be delivered at her office. The romantic secret here is that you pay the dispatch boy to deliver 5 roses while you give her 6th one yourself amidst reading a love poem to her. This is an excellent idea for couples that do not see each other often.

Special valentine getaway

If it has been awhile you went on a night out with your spouse, valentine’s day is the time to surprise her with a special getaway. On Val’s day, if your children are still young, drop them off at your aunt’s house for the night.

Ensure there are no hitches with the candlelight dinner and room at an exquisite hotel in Lagos. In between, pack the bags without your spouse having an inkling of your plans. Then show up at your wife or husband’s office unannounced to pick him or her up for the weekend getaway. It will be a pleasant experience for both of you.

Travel down memory lane

Pay a visit to the place where you had your first date. It may be a restaurant, a cinema or a beach. After you have ordered a meal, both of you should take few minutes to write your favourite moments together. Then share the lists. You will be astonished to see what pops up on the lists. It will include things that you thought were insignificant.

Watch a romantic movie

After the candlelight dinner and exchanging fond memories, you can round up the day by watching a romantic movie, not at the cinema but in the comfort of your home.
