Politics / May Day: Atiku Bemoans Hardship, Says Nigerian Workers Have Never Had It So Bad by joyairemiya: 5:29pm On Apr 30, 2021 |
Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has lamented what he called the persistent and frightening economic decimation of the Nigerian working class in the face of appalling inflation and declining living standards. In his 2021 May Day solidarity message to the Nigerian workers, Atiku Abubakar notes that the conditions of the Nigerian workers are worrisome in our ever hostile economic environment, a situation that makes saving and survival almost impossible. He said, “Even what we call basic food items are unaffordable and we are in a situation where the price of a bag of rice is nearly at par with the value of our minimum wage.” The former Vice President added that the “increase in the national minimum wage has been matched or neutralized by astronomical inflation that is accelerating at a breathtaking rate almost daily. Even the locally produced foods are prohibitively expensive. “The Nigerian workers have never had it so bad. The impacts of the lockdown and worsening inflation have taken their heaviest toll on the working class. The situation is so bad that they are now living from hands to mouth,” Atiku further lamented. The Wazirin Adamawa also explained that in the face of low morale and poor motivation, productivity will inevitably take a nose dive. “This situation,” he said, “will only create favourable conditions for corruption and aggravate depression and mental health problems among civil servants.” “Let me be clear: these challenges of economic survival are not limited to the civil servants alone. They affect the working class at all levels, including artisans and other low-income groups that are struggling desperately to put food on the table in the face of declining incomes and rising inflation,” the former Vice President added. https://www.independent.ng/may-day-atiku-bemoans-hardship-says-nigerian-workers-have-never-had-it-so-bad/ 1 Like 1 Share

Politics / Terrorism: Invite Akpabio For Interrogation, PDP Urges DSS by joyairemiya: 5:07pm On Apr 30, 2021 |
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Friday charged the Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies to immediately invite the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, to name politicians in the All Progressives Congress, APC, that are behind the acts of terrorism and banditry ravaging the country The major opposition party in a statement issued by its spokesman, Kolas Ologbondiyan stressed that “there is self-professed evidence that Senator Akpabio is privy to certain terrorism-related information which he must be made to share with the DSS as well as other security agencies.” The statement read: “Our party’s position is predicated on comments made by Senator Akpabio at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday that the acts of terrorism in our country are ‘politically motivated and that they are handiwork of infiltrators from neighboring countries. “It is instructive to state that Senator Akpabio’s revelation provides more insight into the alleged affiliation of APC leaders with terrorist elements, who had reportedly infiltrated our nation after being imported from neighboring countries by the APC, as political mercenaries, to assist it in unleashing violence to rig the 2019 general elections. “The PDP invites Nigerians to note that the APC and its leaders have failed to account for these mercenaries and have remained silent.
