A member of the Pig Farmers Association of the State who spoke on behalf of his colleagues applauded the government, revealing that despite the fact that the governor is a Muslim who doesn’t eat pork, yet he has supported their efforts because he recognizes the economic potentials inherent in Pig farming. At one of the pig breeding centers visited in Ilesha, state of Osun, some of the beneficiaries of the initiative spoke on the benefit of initiative to the farmers and the state at large. Omoboyeje Olalekan, a graduate of Animal Production and Health, who is one of the farmers trained in Germany, stated that the training was very impactful as he learnt modern skills in pig farming and application of modern technology to his trade. The state of Osun is set to dominate the supply of beef to larger markets in Oyo, Lagos and other parts of the south west of Nigeria. This was revealed during a tour of Oloba Farm Settlement, Iwo where 1,500 hectares of land has been acquired, and a 78 hectares cattle ranch established for the fattening of Cattles and Goats. The ranch has the capacity to Produce 10,000 Cattles amongst other animals being raised for meat production. A Lagos based human rights and development advocacy group, Human and Environmental Development Agenda, HEDA, has revealed how the Ondo State Government under Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, received at least N22bn from the Federal Government in monthly allocations for 2016, but refused to pay 8 months salaries to its workers. Recall the newly elected governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu recently ordered the payment of one month salary to the workers. This was revealed in the group’s report which it released on Monday in Lagos. In the report, the group stated that aside federal allocation, the state couldn’t account for the budget support funds it received from the federal ministry of finance and the Paris loan refund, neither are there massive infrastructural development across the state to explain the reason the state’s resources have been frittered away. The report which focused on Status of Salary Payment in the South West, gave a pass mark to Lagos and Ogun for now owing any month arrears un till March 2017. The group further revealed that Oyo, Ekiti and Osun owed Five, Four and One month’s respectively. In the case of Ekiti, the group stated that the government in the state has taken proactive steps to clear workers’ salaries. When the state budget support fund was seized by the coordinating ministry, “the governor stormed the finance house in a braggadocios manner, but all that has failed to get funds for him to pay his workers’ salaries.” In Osun, the group revealed that through the help of a ‘revenue apportionment committee’, the state has been able to reduce its monthly wage bill from N3.6bn to N1.7bn thus helping the state to pay salaries according to agreement with the state labour unions till January, 2017. The group further revealed in Oyo that, “the government of Oyo has spoken time and again of its readiness to clear all salary arrears when the revenue of the state improves, however, increment in revenue here means government earnings from the federal government must double.” “Oyo State government with a monthly wage bill of N5.2bn as at February 2017 owes 6 months salaries and pensions. Before this current accumulation, the state had often asked workers to forfeit their salaries every other month, until it couldn’t pay again.” The group revealed in the report. |
A cleric and Chief Imam of Ansar-ur- deen Central Mosque Osogbo, Alhaji Sanusi Imogbemi on Friday adjudged the Rauf Aregbesola administration as the very first administration since the creation of the state to ensure the emergence of Osogbo as a truly capital city. The Cleric listed previous governors and military administrators before Aregbesola whom he said made some semblance of efforts at changing the face of the state capital but left with not much impact. The cleric stated that former Governor Adebisi Akande tried within the limit of the resources but said his efforts at constructing a befitting state secretariat for the state would go down as one of the landmark achievements of his administration. He said some of the courageous decisions being taken by the Aregbesola administration could have been taken before him by his predecessors to develop the state. “When Aregbesola began to remove illegal structures around Osogbo for the transformation of the state capital, there was uproar but only the discerning could realize that this was for the good of the state capital. Today, the status of Osogbo, the state capital has confirmed that what some people wanted to use to blackmail the government was for the good of all of us,” Imogbemi said The Chief Imam of Ansar-ur-Deen Osogbo said one of the governors had confessed that he would have embarked on some of the projects which today now earn Aregbesola his popularity but for the advice given by his aides who said such efforts would not be popular. He said that the development efforts, though very heavy and noticeable at the state capital for obvious reasons, also cut across the entire state. The cleric said this is why the response of the people of Osun to payment of taxes have been encouraging saying, “We are ready to pay taxes because we know this is a trustworthy administration which is using the taxes for development of the people. If, for some people who had ruled this state before, we would not have shown interests in paying taxes.” He advised the Governor not to listen to side talks as he said those given to mischief would continue with their mischief no matter how sterling Aregbesola's performances are. The cleric prayed for the governor and against all the machinations of those seeking to halt the development of the state.

okunfemm:I don't think that amount is much for a revolution in the Education Sector in the State of Osun. We have private organisations that ensure that each and every student get their devices at the appropriate time. |

The statement credited to Alhaji Fatai Oyedele that we will send Aregbesola back to Lagos in the Punch Newspaper of 27th February, 2017 page12 is a short-sighted and misguided statement that lacks dignity and respect for the truth in Osun State. One of the prominent chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Alhaji Fatai Oyedele, has said that he and other people within the party will resist Governor Rauf Aregbesola ahead of the 2018 governorship election in the state. He said, “Anybody who wants to be governor must be courageous. Governorship race is not for people, who are feeble-minded. We went to Lagos to bring him, (Aregbesola), we will send him back to Lagos.” He accused the governor of running the party as his personal estate, stressing that other leaders of the party would resist that henceforth. Oyedele is ignorant and controversial because both Oyedele and Aregbesola are not going to contest the governorship poll, what does Oyedele mean that the party leaders said they would not allow him to impose his stooge as the candidate of the party in the 2018 poll? There is no doubt that Oyedele is a controversial man because the people of Osun State do not know what Oyedele wants. Oyedele has opened doors for a number of controversial issues in Osun State. Oyedele is ignorant of the fact that Governor Aregbesola is a national figure today. Oyedele is ignorant that Aregbesola thinks globally and act digitally. I want to educate Oyedele that Aregbesola as a national figure introduced Sukuk Islamic bond to Nigeria for national development. Oyedele is ignorant that Aregbesola has laid foundation for digital education in Nigeria. Oyedele is ignorant that Aregbesola has single-handedly repackaged, sustained and reintroduced school feeding programme to Nigerians. It is unfortunate that Oyedele does not know that Aregbesola is a national figure and not a local champion like him. Aregbesola was Commissioner for works in Lagos before he later became the Governor of Osun because of his professional and technical competence. How can Oyedele made an insane and irresponsible statement of a man who helped to develop modern day Lagos. Oyedele should apologize to Governor Aregbesola because Nigerians do not know that someone like Oyedele exists, talkless of bringing Aregbesola from Lagos to contest election in Osun State. The bike man was angry i didn't talk about the Governor in a good manner because he knows the Governor has done really well. Note: I had to pretend i hated the Governor so i can see if he shared the same Opinion(which wasn't so). I only wish i had recorded it. So think again. |
1.Our attention has been drawn to a reckless statement credited to one Alhaji Fatai Diekola Oyedele in which he claimed that he brought Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to Osun and that he will send him back to Lagos. 2. We say that this claim is a fallacy of the highest order and over estimation of his person and political power. 3. Rather than tell lie of the story, Alhaji Oyedele should have shown modesty and tell the story as it is. 4. Alhaji Oyedele was brought into Rauf Aregbesola Campaign Team when he was, like several others, kicked out of PDP in 2006. 5. As at that time, Aregbesola was firmly on the ground in Osun political firmament as he had done several rounds of consultations with real political and May we note that it amounted arrogance to say he would send Ogbeni back to Lagos when he can not do a street walk with him in Osogbo his hometown. If it is popularity, Ogbeni has it because he has shown that he was not selfish and greedy. 6. Aregbesola's acceptability ratings was a soar away as he put together, a most formidable campaign organisation which he named Oranmiyan. 7. The Oranmiyan Movement which has members in all parts of the state was launched epochally in Osogbo despite the incumbent government's machinations to stop it. 8. Alhaji Diekola Oyedele and his ilk were still in PDP all of these times battling to safe their membership while some of them were out-doing each other in the bid to stop Aregbesola as a mark of loyality to the PDP government. 9. The story of Rauf Aregbesola's entry in to Osun politics is far beyond the scope of some self serving individuals whom Ogbeni gave leverage to, health and political wise. It is immodest for Alhaji Oyedele to make a claim which he is very far from as he was no where near the setting which threw up Aregbesola. 10. Oyedele was a mere beneficiary of Ogbeni's larger heartedness and it is painful that he is turning round to bite the finger that fed him. Signed : Mr Adelani Baderinwa, Chief Press Sec to Osun Gov 2000 to 2003 and Former SSA Information & Strategy to Governor Aregbesola. |
The Ijesa South Federal Constituency member in the House of Representatives, Ajibola Famurewa, has said that Aregbesola is not a foreign politician. Famurewa made this disclosure at an interactive session with reporters who were in Osun State to ascertain and inspect the monumental projects accomplished by the Aregbesola’ administra-tion. According to Famurewa, It is on record that chunk of political appointees and elective office holders in the history of Osun have one time in their working career lived outside Osun. Cases at hand are former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Baba Bisi Akande who lived and worked between Ibadan and Lagos State prior to his election as governor in 1999, among others Famurewa therefore enjoined all residents and citizens of the state to rally round the governor as he continues in the delivery of his electioneering promises

At least, 3,000 tailors and 5,000 market women have benefitted from the State of Osun uniform unification policy since it was introduced in 2012. This was revealed by the manager of Omoluabi Garments Factory, Osogbo, Mr. Ayobami Fatai. He stated this whilst speaking with journalists over the weekend that Omoluabi Garment Factory is saddled with the local production of Osun School Uniforms while the State of Osun works with the factory to ensure the prices are controlled and affordable. It was gathered that the factory also act as a hub to train tailors in the state for free. The manager says thousands of residents in the state have passed through the system, learning how to sow, while also earning at the same time. He further revealed that the factory also partners with the local association of textiles sellers (Egbe Alaso) to supply the uniforms to the market. So far, the factory has partnered with 5,000 of them. With a down payment of 10% of total value of Uniforms to be collected, the textile sellers get the uniforms in bulk and payment is spread throughout the course of selling. As at February 2017, at least, the sum of N120mn has been made as profits by the textile sellers through the sale of subsidized school uniforms alone. The programme which is in its 5th year, has so far being subsidized to the tune of N800m, in addition to the initial N900m seed investment by the government into the business to guarantee the production and sale of 750,000 pieces of uniforms which the government distributed to students across the state for free at the inception of the programme. Omoluabi Garment Factory, reportedly one of the biggest garment factory in West Africa, is a thriving Private Public Business Partnership between the government of the state of Osun and Sam & Sara Garments Limited. The company now produces Uniforms for the Nigerian Military, Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB), Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), among several others. Speaking on the unification policy, former Commissioner for Commerce, Co-Op & Empowerment in the state, Mr. Jayeoba Alagbada, said the unification of school uniforms is part of an effort by the State of Osun to create a unique identity for students, promote culture and stimulate the local economy. He stated that the innovation ensures uniformity and engenders a unified sense of belonging among all government owned public primary and secondary school pupils in the state. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7KN6mMyH-1g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Students, parents and other stakeholders in the state of Osun have applauded the state government for its Opom Imo, ‘Tablet of Knowledge’ initiative. Some of the students who spoke with our reporter listed benefits of the tablets to include access to several educational and co-curricular materials as the Opon Imo team takes distribution of the tablets to Ibokun High School. The tablet since it distribution began in 2013, has enhanced learning and also complemented the efforts of teachers for better performance in teaching. In fact, in 2016, the state of Osun recorded a 46.3% pass rate in WAEC exams which indicates a 113.6% increase over 2015. The best in the past 13 years! An SS3 student, Abiona Adesina, who spoke with our reporter said with Opon Imo, he is able to access his past note from SS1 and SS2, thereby improving his cognitive capability. Another parent who spoke to us said the Opon Imo initiative as helped him avoid spending money on buying textbooks. Opon Imo, tablet of Knowledge contains past questions and additional traditional subjects, as well as the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) syllabuses. Recall WAEC in the first week of February 2017, endorsed the Opon Imo tablet and recommended it to other states in the country. Also speaking with reporters recently, the Deputy governor who is the commissioner for Education, Otunba (Mrs.) Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, said “the Opon Imo, was produced in partnership with a Chinese firm. It has been uploaded with 63 e-textbooks (56 core texts and seven extra-curricular texts tailored to the Nigerian curriculum for use by the three senior secondary level classes (SS1-SS3). “It contains lesson notes for 17 subjects tested in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which were prepared by seasoned tutors, as well as 40,000 past questions of WASSCE, the National Examination Council (NECO) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), written in the past 10 years. It also contains Yoruba proverbs and the English dictionary.” She said an average textbook for secondary school pupils cost a minimum of N1,000 and explained that the state government and tax payers would have spent N8.6 billion on the purchase of textbooks, if it had not come up with the tablet. “We will be saving the state a lot of money because of the e-books. The average textbook costs N1,000. If we assume there are 56 textbooks in the e-library, it would cost the state N8.6 billion if we were to buy the books for 150,000 pupils. It only cost us N200 million to produce 56 core e-textbooks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edRkrdTNu1k |

President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, has commended governor of the state of Osun towards his commitment to religious tolerance in the state. The emir gave the commendation while on a courtesy visit to the governor at the State House, Osogbo shortly before leading a national prayer for our Nation for peace, security, Stability and development, organized in honour of Deputy President General (South) Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sakariyau Olayiwola Babalola. The leader of the Muslims also enjoined various religious groups across the country to make prayer a daily routine as the country needs spiritual solutions to its peculiar challenges. This was as the Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, observed that economy and abject poverty, rather than religion is the major springboard of the Boko Haram terrorism. During the Sultan’s courtesy call on the Governor, the Sultan commended Aregbesola for his commitment to the development of humanity regardless of socio-economic, political and religious differences. He said the state under the leadership Aregbesola has demonstrated high sense of fairness to religious organisations in the state. He noted that the Governor has extremely demonstrated to the world the sterling quality expected from whoever holds the office of the Governor. The Sultan said, "I must acknowledge your commitment in promoting unity among the various religious organisations in the state as this is in line with our cardinal objective of ensuring a peaceful nation. The Sultan stated that his visit makes the 6th time of being in Osun and we are here in large number as one family under the umbrella of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs which is the apex body for muslims in Nigeria to further register our determination to unity, peace and tranquillity of Nigeria and Nigerians. Meanwhile Governor Aregbesola averred that it must sadden every Muslim to hear that a Muslim can kill himself or herself or accept a suicide mission for the paltry some of N200. He argued that economy rather than religion is at the heart of insurgency in the northern part of the country. He therefore called on muslim leaders to undertake the task of how to eradicate poverty in the land in other that terrorism could be uprooted once and for all.
