Walkee:This is half truth sir. Why are refugees in the Middle East seeking to cross to the West instead of going to UAE, Saudi Arabia or Qatar? The number of immigrants from non English speaking countries holding elective positions in some of these countries speaks volume of the liberalism in Western Democracies. Some people can say colonialism bla bla bla. Yes, colonialism has been and it's still in existence. Every powerful kingdom, empire, territory or nation always aspire to colonize the weaker ones. Even our Nigeria has for some times had control over political happenings in Liberia, Seria Leone and Gambia. Before the advent of the Europeans, powerful empires like the Oyo Empire, the Benin kingdom, Kanem Borno Empire, Kwarafa kingdom etc all (colonized) captured other weaker states and made them vassals. Oyo Empire had its influence stretched as far as Dahomey (present day Benin Republic). Benin kingdom had its influence stretched as far as Eko (present day Lagos). This is evident in the names of some notable towns in Lagos. The Hausa City States such as Kano, Rano, Zauzau etc had a different culture, religion and way of life before the Usman Dan Fodio Jihad that introduced Islam and the Arabic culture. For those who are anxiously waiting to argue, please before you commence, go and research the names, culture, religion and mode of dressing of the Hausa and Kanuri (Kanem Borno Empire) people before the Usman Dan Fodio Jihad and after the Jihad. |
olugabbie:This is one of the most reasonable comments I've seen on this thread. Most of those guys are just moved by their imagination and wishes. The US and NATO have been ignoring Russia's security concerns in Eastern Europe for quite some time now. What Putin is interested in is for US and NATO to address his concerns about their advancement in Eastern Europe. US and NATO will not fight Russia military if they attack Ukraine (because Ukraine is not yet a member so they don't have the obligation to defend them), but, they will do everything to cripple Russia's economy through sanctions- this is one fact that Russia can't shy away from. Russia's allied like China, Iran, North Korea can't not meet Russia's needs economically if the West decides to impose tough economic sanctions on Russia. Right now, what Putin wants is for the West to address his concerns, they've been ignoring him for too long hence the need to take this bold step that he is taking right now. If he doesn't act now, NATO under the guidance of US will cunningly and gradually sorround Russia with missiles. Remember that China just like Russia has been planning an invasion of Taiwan. But that will be a different ball game entirely because, unlike Ukraine, US has a defense pact with Taiwan. |
I can't remember the last time I heard positive news or news about infrastructural development coming out from Benue state. It's only unfortunate news reports that come out from that place. Governance there is at the lowest ebb. Since 1999, the state has never been fortunate enough to have a governor whose performance in office can be described as anything close to average; and there is no hope in sight that they will have a better choice anytime soon because the brand of politics played there is completely devoid of issues and ideas that will bring development. It's all about whose turn it is to rule. |
Anything that brings development to our country, it's definitely a good news. We need more serious efforts by governments at all levels to develop the country because we are lagging behind. |
The Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, has rejected Ghana’s appeal to move the World Cup play-off tie with Nigeria to a new venue, precisely to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Ghana’s Football Federation cited the fact that their first choice stadium – Cape Coast Stadium, will be used for the nation’s Independence Day celebration as the reason for wanting to have a change of venue – a move that CAF has now resisted. “The Fifa World Cup 2022 preliminary competition regulations in its article 21 venues, kick-off times and training sessions stipulate that “The venues of matches shall be set by the host association and/or by the confederation, as applicable, and the matches may only be played in stadiums that have been inspected and approved by the confederation concerned. The opponents and the Fifa general secretariat shall be notified by the host association and/or by the confederation, as applicable, at least three months before the match in question is due to be played,” read a statement from the continent’s ruling body. “24th of December 2021 was the deadline set by Caf for the participating national associations to select and communicate to Caf their preferred venue for the play-off round of the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers. “On the 23rd of December 2021, GFA informed Caf that Cape Coast Stadium was the venue selected for the play-off round of the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers. “Based on the venue selection received from each of the participating national associations, Caf has timely concluded the assessment of the selected stadium(s) and communicated to Fifa the venue decisions for the upcoming Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers play-off round.” A CAF statement reads “Considering that matchday is in less than 30 days, Caf is not in a position to delay any further the confirmation of the match venue. As you are aware, the selection of the venue, respective date and time of the match, has to be set well in advance having a direct impact on the preparation of match logistics and operations by all the concerned parties,” it continued. “Besides, please note that Kumasi Sports Stadium is currently non-homologated by Caf to host international matches, since it has been under renovations and no Caf inspection was conducted to the stadium to re-assess the level of stadium compliance. “Considering the above, the request of change of venue is not accepted, hence the match Ghana Vs. Nigeria for the play-off round of the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers should be maintained at Cape Coast Stadium. “In case your association reiterate the position to change the venue, since there is no other approved venue in Ghana, your national team will be requested to play its upcoming Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers play-off round match in an approved stadium outside its territory, and the venue must be selected from among the stadiums approved by Caf.” Ghana did not make it to the last edition in Russia – the first time they missed out since their 2006 debut. The return leg is billed for the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja. Source: Vanguard Newspaper |

After several years on this platform, we are finally here. This is the sign that this year is going to be my year of attaining greater heights. I dedicate this to all Nairalanders who are not ethnic or religious bigots and have continued to respect the views and opinions of others regardless of how opposed they are to them. |
The commentator though. He said what some Ethiopian players earn in a year is what Chupo Moting earns in a week. Bitter truth. |
