The March 18th, 2023 gubernatorial election in Lagos state has been characterized by violent attacks against voters who are perceived to be against the ruling party, the APC. Barely 24 hours to the election, a video had gone viral on social media where a chieftain of the APC, MC Oluomo; while addressing his party members, warned voters stay to away from the election if they were not going to vote for the APC. The video had generated alot of negative comments (in both the conventional and social media) forcing him (MC Oluomo) to withdraw his threats which he later called "a mere joke with mama Chukwudi who is like a sister to him". Like a Nollywood movie, his foot soldiers have gone ahead to carryout the violence he had initially promised non APC voters. The million Dollars question here is, "in all of this, where are the security agencies who have the constitutional duty of protecting all Nigerians without fear or favour"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQPuJfoyh-M |

ZombieSlayer1:Nawa oooo..... The Chinese government themselves have accepted that the balloon belongs to them, and have apologized to the USA. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrBHZaERHIo Source: Al Jazeera The Pentagon says it is tracking a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon spotted over United States’ airspace, reviving tensions between the two powers just days before the top US diplomat’s visit to Beijing. “The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is over the continental United States right now,” Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder told reporters on Friday. “The balloon is currently travelling at an altitude well above commercial air traffic and does not present a military or physical threat to people on the ground.” US officials claimed the balloon was flying over sensitive sites to collect information. There are reports military leaders decided against shooting it down over the state of Montana because of the risk of falling debris. Montana is home to the Malmstrom Air Force Base, where there are some 150 silos for intercontinental ballistic missiles, including the nuclear-capable Minuteman III. The US took “custody” of the balloon when it entered its airspace and had observed it with piloted US military aircraft, an official told Pentagon reporters on Thursday on condition of anonymity. The Pentagon spokesperson said similar surveillance activity has been seen in the past few years, adding the US had taken steps to ensure the balloon did not collect sensitive information. The US defence secretary, Lloyd Austin, while visiting the Philippines, convened a meeting of senior Pentagon officials on Wednesday to discuss the incident. Republican US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he would request a “Gang of Eight” briefing, referring to a classified national security briefing for congressional leaders, and Republican and Democratic leaders, of the intelligence committees. Purpose unclear Glenn Carle, a national security expert, told Al Jazeera that the balloon flight was curious. “They have satellites that are sophisticated and it’s not clear to me what intelligence advantage they could gain by doing this,” said Carle, former deputy national intelligence officer for transnational threats at the CIA. “Perhaps it fits in with the ‘Wolf Warrior’ diplomacy that China has pursued: being aggressive in pursuit of its interests until there is a strong pushback.” Source: Al Jazeera |

This idea sounds great! Sometimes, I do wonder if the owner of this forum (Seun) is not ambitious or just comfortable with ordinary. Nairaland actually has everything it takes to become the 'Twitter of Africa' but Seun is so complacent that he has closed his ears and mind to fresh ideas/initiatives. |
One of the most fascinating moments for most tourists at the grove whenever they visit is the fun-moment with the over a thousand monkeys that live inside the forest. Visitors have made it a tradition of giving bananas to the monkeys; hence the monkeys there are always excited and expectant when they see tourists around.

The Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove is not just a place for adventure for tourists but also for research and religious worship; especially the devotees of Osun, the river goddess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwbVQlJAeLg
|
At the shrine inside the grove, you’ll find the Osun worshipers who have made it a tradition of demanding money from visitors before allowing them to enter the shrine-whether for sight-seeing or religious supplications. Don’t be surprised if they reject your 200 Naira and insist you drop at least a thousand Naira inside their offering box.
|
Entrance fee to the grove is 200 Naira. However, you’ll have to pay an extra (negotiable) fee if you are going in with your mobile phone or any other device for the purpose of taking pictures. I.e 1,000 Naira for smart phones and 3,000 Naira for digital cameras. These prices are negotiable. After paying the required fees, (at your request), a tour guide will take you round the grove and explain the religious and historical meaning and relevance of all aspects of the grove. Though it is not mandatory to pay the tour guides but, most tourists show appreciation to them (tour guides) in monetary terms.

So, on the 1st of January this year, I decided to visit the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove. This historic and religious site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Osogbo, the Osun state capital. Visiting the grove from within or outside the state is not a herculean task due to its location which can easily be accessed directly from the city centre. From Olaiya flyover bridge (the city centre) or wherever you are within Osogbo, you won’t have a hard time getting a commercial motorcycle popularly known as Okada to commute you to the grove which is located at Isale-Osun, very close to the palace of the city’s traditional ruler, the Ata-Oja of Osogbo. Osun-Osogbo Grove boasts of a rainforest vegetation that covers an area of 75 hectares surrounding it. It is on a raised percel about 350 metres above sea level. This is a breathtaking organically enveloped cultural landscape.

So, I've also decided to join the bandwagon by taking part in this 'funny trend' of posting pictures about state Secretariats in Nigeria. To do it differently, I went on a tour inside the Benue State Secretariat. This edifice was constructed during the second republic by the late Aper Aku. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1z34SIp3es |
Sasi54:No worry, I'm coming with a video tour inside the Benue State Secretariat tomorrow. No filters though |

May God use us to heal our land. That just starts with voting in good and responsible leaders. |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIKREugin-8 There are always arguments about who is the most powerful force between the Nigeria Army and Nigeria Airforce. Though this argument often times comes from members of the public, it also do reverberates amongst the Armed Forces. It is an open secret that the Nigeria Army is superior in number and thus more visible and engaged with internal security operations, however, the level of effectiveness, efficiency and professionalism between these two forces is always a contentious one among Nigerians. Sporting competitions are sometimes organized for members of the Armed Forces where prizes are won. This time around, the Nigeria Airforce took on the Nigeria Army in a tug of war contest to test their physical strength. |
Ekelekele..... Army Day Secondary school Portharcourt. That army sergeant was so dangerous that even those (within Portharcourt) who were not students of ADSS, knew his nickname, Ekelekele. Most of us passed through that school, from JSS1 to SS3 without knowing his real name. His cohorts were (nicknames): EFCC Do-you-know-me? Avatar Ben10 No mercy. Secondary school was fun though. If you no attend ADSS Bori-Camp Portharcourt, you miss. |

I heard that almost every family in Ejigbo has a relation in Ivory coast. That'll definitely be my first point of call. Grab your popcorn; I go drop d gist here |
