I'm not in any way in support of Buhari or the APC led government but, this move (if true and transparent) is a welcome development. Criticism should be different from hate. We can criticize and or condemn the move/policy if we feel is wrong or done wrongly- but blatantly condemning it simply because it's from and by the Buhari led government will make us appear to be 'armchair critics'. |

https://gobe.com.ng/2021/06/06/on-social-media-everyone-is-a-counsellor-or-life-coach/ There are certain abnormal things social media is trying to normalize. It starts as meme, then some testifiers and it makes other people begin to assume normal is abnormal. I have 2 different stories to share. The First Story. I saw this post and it’s something like this. I came to your Dm and you’re asking me how did I get your number, your mother was sharing it at the market today. 2nd post: l came to your Dm and you’re asking me how did l get your number aunty shey you don’t want to marry. Why did she have to ask? Straight up why didn’t you just introduce yourself? for crying out loud you’re a stranger. You have someone’s number and she’s like how did you get my number and you’re pissed and resort to insulting her, come are you not mad? And the other story is; Dating with the expectation that it will lead to marriage is the major reason for heart breaks. Just date and in the process if it leads to marriage then fine and if it doesn’t then you’re good. Please why are we dating? what’s the end goal?? If the end goal is not to get married then we are catching cruise, we are not in a relationship. I think what should be said are; 1. Be in a relationship but do not involve your heart. 2. if you want a FWB relationship look for someone who wants the same thing. If you want a serious relationship look for similar partner. The relationship may end due to reasonable reasons (genotype, tribe, etc). 3. If you’re married and want a sidechick why hide your ring? The babe you like may not be interested because you’re married but guy girls way dey find your type plenty. So why hide your ring to be with one when you can put it on and attract many. E be like you no like peace of mind. ( let’s just pretend I’m speaking to my Muslim brothers okay). Look for your energy and vibe with them. Not the dating to see how it goes philosophy. (This sounds like FWB to me, because we can be just friends(no s** while we see how it goes) but because we want the s** and still wanna see how it goes we call it dating. And the alarming thing is “in the seeing how it goes relationship you can be seeing other people too. Hmmm sounds like FWB to you now right?? Why breakup hurts the most is being with someone who doesn’t love you enough to spend forever with you but that person makes you believe they are your ride or die and when the question of will you marry me pop up they start asking for forgiveness. Look for your energy and vibe with them. Don’t tell me you can’t find that FWB partner. If you’ve decided you want the FWB relationship then do you but please don’t try to corrupt others to help you normalize your desire and make normal look stupid. Have you heard something similar or you haven’t? Let me read it. My eyes are open to read your story in the comment session below. https://gobe.com.ng/2021/05/31/opinion-abnormal-things-that-have-become-normal-in-nigeria/ Nigeria is a country filled with amazing people and incredible things. As fascinating as the country is, it is however not devoid of abnormalities- infact, it is the headquarters of some of the most abnormal human behavioural patterns on Earth. In today’s edition of ‘Checkmate’, we’ll be taking a look at some abnormal things that have become normal in Nigeria. In no particular order, let’s go! *Urinating anywhere we feel like: This act symbolizes our penchant for lawlessness. Everybody act the way he/she feels like or pleases- even in public without considering the impact/effect of their actions/inactions on others. *Every politician has a terminal illness: Every Nigerian political office is as fit as a fiddle until the day the EFCC invites them for question and then charge them to court. Once this happens, then boom!!! They will suddenly become so sick that if they are not permitted to travel (run) abroad for urgent medical attention, they will kiss the bucket. *Blaming others except ourselves: bulk passing is now a norm! Every Nigerian has been programmed to blame others for his/her predicaments. E.g the masses who use refuse to block drainages and water channels will turn around and blame the government when their community is flooded. The government that has failed in providing adequate security for the masses will turn around and blame the masses for not providing useful information to the police. *Poverty is caused by village people: yes, the proverbial village people are responsible for our misfortunes including our failure to have sense. *Kidnappings, banditry and killings: The security situation in Nigeria has become so bad that no day passes without news of mass abduction and or killings of innocent citizens making the headlines. Mass kidnapping and killing of Nigerians especially school children is no longer a national tragedy; its now a norm! Hit the comment box below and tell us what you think. See you next Monday https://gobe.com.ng/2021/05/31/opinion-abnormal-things-that-have-become-normal-in-nigeria/ |
https://gobe.com.ng/2021/05/24/is-lagos-state-richer-than-ghana/ Welcome to another edition of CHECTMATE on your favourite blog, www.gobe.com.ng There has always been this debate and or comparison by some Nigerians about Nigerias economy and that of their West African neighbour, Ghana. Often out of anger and frustration in the Nigerian system that has not treated them fairly, some young Nigerians are of the opinion that Ghana is the jewel of the Sahara with a more robust, developed and bigger economy compared to Nigeria. How true is this statement? Before I begin to dish out the statistics, I’d like to let you know that, by land mass, Lagos state is the smallest state in Nigeria. Regardless of its status as the smallest state in Nigeria by land mass, Lagos is the most populated state in the country. And, if Lagos State was a country, it would have been the fifth largest economy in Africa. Yes! You heard me right; fifth largest economy in Africa. It is not what I think or suggest, it is what the statistics say. With a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $90 billion in 2014, Lagos was ranked as the seventh largest economy in Africa. And in 2016, the size of its GDP increased to $131 billion, making it the fifth biggest economy in Africa just behind Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, and Algeria. and richer than the rest of Nigeria? You might be wondering why Lagos is so rich. The reasons are not far fetched. Lagos is home to the busiest seaports in Nigeria and West Africa; the Tin Can and Apapa ports which accounts for about 70 percent of all Nigerias imports. The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos is one of the busiest airport in West Africa. Also, the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) as well as 90 percent of the financial institutions and multi national corporations in Nigeria have their headquarters in Lagos state. Nigeria is undoubtedly controls the music industry in Africa and Lagos is the engine room that has been driving that progress. Though Abuja is the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, it is a mere political capital while Lagos remains the financial and economic capital of Nigeria hence it is and will continuously maintain a higher GDP than Ghana, now and in the foreseeable future. https://gobe.com.ng/2021/05/24/is-lagos-state-richer-than-ghana/ |
https://gobe.com.ng/2021/05/23/drugs-you-can-use-to-treat-mouth-odour/ FIVE DRUGS YOU CAN USE TO TREAT MOUTH ODOUR (HALITOSIS) Here are top five drugs that you can use to treat mouth odour: Chlorhexidine: This drug, when present in high concentrations, can kill the bacteria and make them inactive when present in low concentrations. The drug is also effective against forms of fungi and virus. High concentrations of this drug should be kept away from the ears and eyes. Apart from the use in oral mouthwashes, it is also often used as a preservative in low concentrations. Oral preparations of the drug are marketed under the brand names Peridex, Periochip, and Perichlor. Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC): It is used in most lozenges, mouthwashes, toothpastes, breathe sprays, throat sprays, and nasal sprays. It is a chemical antiseptic and acts mostly by the bactericidal mode of action i.e. it kills the bacteria and other microbes of a similar nature. The drug is also effective in the protection of the teeth against dental plaque and gingivitis. Chlorine dioxide: It is used as a disinfectant and oxidizer and is very effective in killing pathogenic microbes like fungi, virus, and bacteria. The drug is also effective for removing the bio-film. It is used in oral preparations in low concentrations and may even be used against anthrax bacteria in high concentrations. Ranitidine: Acid reflux is a situation in which the liquid and digested contents of the stomach are pushed back into the esophagus which causes bad breath or halitosis. Ranitidine is effective in preventing this situation and is available on the market under the brand name Zantac. This drug is a histamine blocker and reduces acid production in the stomach. Cimetidine: This drug is also effective in preventing acid reflux and halitosis. Cimetidine is also a histamine receptor blocker. It is available in the market under the brand names such as: Tagamet, Tagamet HB, and Tagamet HB200. Please Note: Halitosis (mouth odour) is rarely associated with life-threatening diseases. However, it is important that you consult your doctor or dentist as soon as you notice consistent white spots on the tonsils and sores in the mouth with or without a fever. Sometimes bad breath is triggered by severe health conditions such as throat or mouth cancers, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, digestive system disorders, or diabetes- and further, can indicate dehydration or zinc deficiency. Taking proper care of your teeth and visiting the dentist at least twice a year are the easiest ways to avoid these issues. https://gobe.com.ng/2021/05/16/opinion-who-are-the-enemies-of-nigeria/ It is an open secret that with recent events happening in Nigeria (especially in the area of insecurity), the country is on the fast lane to becoming a failed state. From the North to the South, the life of a Nigerian has become worthless. The country is being punched from every corner by a thousand enemies who are relentless and head bent on bringing the nation to its knees. One may want to ask, who are the enemies of Nigeria? The enemies of Nigeria are not those who are blowing up pipe lines but those who have given them the reasons to do so. The enemies of Nigeria are not those who have lost hope in the Nigerian dream but those who have hijacked our dreams with their personal ambition. The enemies of Nigeria are not the armed robbers and bandits who are kidnapping Nigerians, especially school children for ransom but, those who have failed to provide security for the people. The enemies of Nigeria are not those who are fighting to leave the Nigerian federation but those who have failed to accommodate the interest of every Nigerian. The enemies of Nigeria are not those who refuse to pay tax but those who have the mania for keeping tax payers money in private pockets. Until Nigeria stops flogging her citizens with injustice, the masses will continue to cry by shouting, yelling, and screaming. The nation will not experience peace until her citizens are happy. And remember, Pikin wey say em mama no go sleep, how em go take sleep? READ MORE ON: www.gobe.com.ng https://gobe.com.ng/2021/05/16/opinion-who-are-the-enemies-of-nigeria/ |

Standing with his people against the marauding Fulani terrorists and being bold enough to be a lone voice in the North who is speaking truth to power, has made him a popular leader amongst his people in Benue State regardless of his underperformance in terms of infrastructural development. Another area the governor has silently scored a pass mark is in the area of agriculture and industrialization. He has been able to revive the industrial layout in Makurdi with several companies (including those owned by him) now fully in operation. Being a farmer himself, he is mobilizing his people against the killer herdsmen by encouraging Benue people to turn their empty lands into green fields (farmlands). Through this, more people (real farmers not political jobbers) are strongly in support of his anti open grazing law and are equally ready to fight and keep the Fulanis away from Benue. Though he has performed bellow average to me, but honestly, if another elections were to be conducted today in Benue state, Ortom will still win because majority of his people see him as a fearless man who is leading from the front against the Fulani terrorists whom they believe are secretly being backed by the Federal government. |
May his soul rest in peace. BTW, why is it that we don't get to hear any news about development coming from Benue State- it's always about disaster and unfortunate incidents. |
I love the idea and concept- just that the name sounds like a lie. |
One of the reasons I so much hate Benue State politics is that they don't discuss development, policies or programs- they simply discuss individuals. the same group of failed politicians who have ensured that the state remain undeveloped despite being as old as you can think of. They Just so so good at worshiping politicians there. |
The Nigerian constitution itself states that government must not adopt any religion as state religion. Even the penal codes exempts non- Muslims from being subjected to sharia penal codes. But well, in Nigeria, anything goes- the laws are made by the rich for the poor alone to obey. |
