"In the beginning"? the few times we got glimpses of the beginning, the "word of God" was conscious . In Gen 3:8, we see the voice of the Lord waking in the garden—although it's an anthropomorphic allusion to God still the meaning is clear. Which results in another question of mine, "Was this "speech" conscious or not" ?
