Nairaland GeneralJorge Haus Incubator And Accelerator Program Registration Is Now Open! by juliambariuno(op): 9:14am On Mar 08, 2022
The Jorge Haus Incubator & Accelerator Program is officially opened. We welcome Startups & Business Owners across all industries in Nigeria.

This program is set to provide a path to Business Funding Opportunities & a widespread amount of knowledge across all aspects of business operations. We have partnered with Investors who can make investments up to N500m in your business. This Program will also engage all participants in the knowledge of Business Management, Strategic Planning, Industry Insights, Forecasting & Financial Analysis, Business Funding Options, Legal, Regulations & Compliance, Digital Transformation of Marketing & Sales, Human Resources & Talent Mgt., Business Processes Automation, Business Performance Mgt. & KPIs, Customer Relationship Mgt. & many more.

A Business Incubator or Accelerator Program as it is commonly called is a group that is centric on helping set businesses off ground. While Incubators 'incubate' disruptive ideas with the hope of building a business model & company, Accelerators 'accelerate' the growth of an existing company that has at least 1 minimum viable product.

A startup here means a company that is built to grow fast. Without startup funding, the vast majority of these companies will die. The amount of money needed to take a startup to profitability is usually well beyond the ability of the founders, their family & friends. To finance high-growth companies, they need to burn capital to sustain growth prior to achieving profitability. The good news is, there are lots of investors hoping to give the right startup money. The bad news is, “Fundraising is brutal”. The process of raising money is often long, arduous, complex & ego-deflating. Nevertheless, 'IT IS A PATH ALMOST ALL COMPANIES & FOUNDERS MUST WALK'.

Register for the Incubator Program if you are a startup whose business is still at an early stage of the business cycle (often a thought or idea or startup stage). Register for the Accelerator Program if you are a founder with existing traction (at least 1-year Financial Statements) & also can demonstrate growth potential.

Please click this link to register, https:///3C4FVQM. Registration closes on March 31st. Limited slots are available.

EventsThe Center For Memories Set To Launch MMỤỌ Exhibition With Chuma Anagbado by juliambariuno(op): 5:26pm On Aug 11, 2021
The exhibits are ready and the doors of the Centre For Memories (CFM) Gallery are set to be thrown open to the public as the CFM, in partnership with Chuma Anagbado, unveils a new exciting exhibition titled “MMỤỌ” on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 12 NOON WAT (UTC +1).

Masquerades play a very huge role in the general worldview, the traditional religion and the spirituality of the Igbo people. Masquerades are believed to represent ancestral spirits, and are sometimes called “spirits” to reflect this belief.

The costumes, songs, poetry, dance, proverbs and other displays that accompany their performances, embody the essence of Igbo culture, history and civilization. Masquerades themselves are complex beings embodying Igbo performative art, knowledge systems and the sublime existence between the worlds of the spirits and the living. In pre-colonial Igbo communities, masks and masquerades helped to maintain balance and order by fighting crimes, enforcing laws, instilling values and administering justice.

As a way of reviving interest in Igbo culture, preserving the art form and situating them in modernity, the Centre For Memories, a non-profit organization and an Igbo Cultural hub on a mission to promote Igbo language and culture, is curating the art of Chuma Anagbado in an exhibition titled; MMỤỌ. Since inception, CFM has collaborated with museums, memory centers and artists from across the globe to design and implement world-class exhibitions with audio, visual and interactive sections, which informs, inspires and transforms our visitors, ensuring that they share their experiences and keep coming back.

Mmuo, which translates to ‘spirit’ forms an apt theme for this month-long Solo Contemporary Art Exhibition on Igbo Masquerading, Spirituality, Performance & Visual Resonance. It is a presentation of multi-sensorial aspects of Igbo masquerading – movement, sounds, materials, masks and scent.

This Exhibition opens on August 14 and runs till September 14, 2021

Opening Day: Saturday, August 14, 2021
Time: 12:00 PM WAT (UTC +1)
Venue: Centre for Memories. 2 Awgu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu

Mbari Uno Forum is proud to announce her partnership with NzukoLabs and its first project, Obodo Oma, the urban reimagining initiative by the Society of Igbo Professionals. The partnership is an endeavour that is poised to establish a platform that promotes collaborative problem solving through design innovation, invention, education, and collaboration. Mbari Uno Forum is a not-for-profit organization and open innovation platform engaging a Collective of designers and professionals in activities rooted in indigenous realities, to develop cultures, products, events and services that solve social problems in Africa. NzukoLabs is a non-profit initiative that seeks to transform how youths learn in the South East of Nigeria by infusing the principles of STEM into our school curriculum in an interdisciplinary and applied approach while collaborating with teachers, educators & policymakers.

In tune with their mission to promote a continuous drive for inventive and indigenous problem solving by leveraging on STEM and the innovative ecosystem created by NzukoLabs in Eastern Nigeria. Chuma Anagbado, Co-Founder of Mbari Uno said; "This partnership is one vehicle for bringing design to the East. We are charting new territories, and on them, we are catalysing a hunger and drive for development via innovation." The emergence of the NzukoLabs and Mbari Uno Forum partnership presents an exciting opportunity to converge the organisational aspirations of the Society of Igbo Professionals (SIP). SIP is a registered professional organisation that seeks to motivate, connect and leverage the global community of Igbo professionals as drivers of sustainable socio-economic growth of individuals, organisations and communities wherever Igbos live, work and grow. One of SIP’s cardinal initiatives, ‘Obodo Oma’ (which translates to ‘a nice city/dwelling’) will be the flagship project of this collaboration. Conceptualised by the Society of Igbo Professionals as a social re-engineering programme, Obodo Oma involves reimagining Igbo urban centres like Abakaliki, Enugu, Owerri, Onitsha, Aba, amongst others in an effort that will activate young people across the 7 Igbo homesteads of Nigeria in Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers States by co-creating visualisations that encourage a more functional, healthier, pleasant yet modern lifestyle.
On the collaboration with Mbari Uno and NzukoLabs, SIP Trustee, Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu enthused, "Collaboration is at the heart of all the activities of the Society of Igbo Professionals and in more ways than one, it feels very much like a stage in a journey made richer by diversity, experience and exuberance - a return to the origins, a return of a fabled traveller, a return of a prodigal, a return to a time of sowing and green shoots, a return to a vista of possibilities."
The partnership is rooted in a shared philosophy of innovation, design education, human capital development and social impact. The potential of this collaboration is also linked to the Creative Economy driven by empowered, diverse and youthful human resource from the grassroots. Through design thinking and design education, the Mbari Uno Forum and NzukoLabs partnership aims at creating economic growth, skill acquisition, and sustainable solutions via innovative problem solving and collaboration. Participants will be introduced to and trained on Design Thinking and STEM with the urban renewal visualisation as a project. This partnership will also involve design thinking sessions and activities facilitated by Mbari Uno Forum and the ideas will form part of a Street Exhibition planned for mid-December as part of the annual homecoming.
The partnership will kick-off the first project, “Obodo Oma” with a webinar on Introduction to Design Thinking: what design thinking is and how it works. This virtual session will hold via Zoom on the 24th of October, 2020.

CultureA Critical Appraisal Of The Nigerian 60th Anniversary Logo by juliambariuno(op): 12:19pm On Oct 07, 2020
Three different shades of green, the number 60, a ‘Together’ wordmark, a 51 Carat Russian Dynasty diamond embroiled in trademark controversy; and you have all the elements used to represent Nigeria’s celebration of 60 years of independence. Make no mistake, my tone is not an indictment of this logo, neither is it an endorsement. I am yet to state my position. While I will after this review, here is a mere layman attempt at deconstructing the parts that make up a whole.

After its unveiling by the President on Wednesday, the 16th of September, 2020, there has been a torrential downpour of opinions from various quarters. Scathing remarks on social media, an ‘urging’ by the Federal Government for Nigerians to ‘embrace’ the visual icon, and a fistful of sarcastic neutrality that has dominated the headlines of major news outlets in response to the ensemble that is our nations 60th-anniversary logo.

However, rather than stand on a pedestal and decide on a position, I see it as a responsibility to attempt an objective critique of this logo from a design standpoint without pandering to public emotions or the visage of the political powers that be.
