UNIPORT Graduate To Break Guinness World Records By Running From Lagos To Port Harcourt In Five Days/ ORINEWS.

28-year-old Promise Wosu Junior, from Omudioga in Emohua Local Government of Rivers State popularly known as Wene Port Harcourt, has expressed his preparedness to set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered on foot.

Promise, from Ikwerre ethnicity, but based in Lagos is a graduate of the Department of Accounting, University of Port Harcourt.

Orinews Learnt the energetic young accountant will be covering a 606km from Lagos to Port Harcourt, from the 17th of October to 21st October, 2023.

Reacting to what formed his decision to run from Lagos to Port Harcourt on foot, Promise said, “it’s a very long story and a very sad one actually. I see possibilities where people don’t see that, and I always try to make a difference.

"I might not be an athlete kind of, but I believe that, I have this drive, even right from my family, I left home not knowing anybody in Lagos, survived in the cold, in the hands of strangers I was treated badly, chased out of the house.

“I have faced disappointments, betrayal, so I just want to try out something that is really not possible, I don’t care about the pain, I don’t care about anything, all I care about is fulfilling my mission.

I am also a photographer and owns a media film in Lagos (Julens films).

“I love to see people succeed and this will be a great motivation for people out there to dare the impossible and get the best out of life, I fell into depression since 2019 after hosting two simultaneous failed comedy shows in Isiokpo community, Sabinus helped talked me back to my feet and I left to Lagos for a fresh start and now I’m here.

"Nigeria is filled with opportunities and from my record setting, people will expand their thoughts process and get the best out of the country and beyond. It has never been an easy one as no one has supported this journey but I’m determined to do it regardless

When asked why he chose this particular mission, he said, “well, I think this is just the first of its kind that I’m going to try out, there are other impossible stuff I will try out after this.”

On his parents’ reaction over his decision, he said, “yes, they are aware, they took it as a joke because I’m also a comedian and content creator, so they took it as a joke but running from Lagos to Port Harcourt isn’t a funny Joke.

“Even uptil now most people don’t even believe it but come next week Tuesday all eyes will be on Facebook and Instagram, they will see it, I will be in Port Harcourt, on 21st October, 4pm or so.”

Promised explained that, “I will be resting after every 40 kilometers, I will be resting to take water and the rest. I already have software with me; in my watch and my phone to track every distance I cover and the time. So, I will be running at 10 kilometers per hour, but from Lagos State to Ijebu Ode, I intend to run 20 kilometers per hour, so that I can at least cover up from Lagos to Ogun State, then from there I know how to navigate my way.

“This is something I am doing without any one’s advice, because they will always want to talk you down and I even had to go offline on Facebook and Instagram because I don’t want any negative vibe.

It’s something I prepared right from when I was a kid, because I love adventures, I take pictures, I document things by myself, I don’t really care what anyone want to say about it, once I achieve my aim and my dream I come back to Lagos. My coming back to Lagos is also another story, but let’s just finish this first part. I know it is something that is unbelievable, it will be the first of its kind in Nigeria and Africa.”

He also reacted on the aspect of insecurity in Nigeria. According to him, “there is nothing to fear about, it’s my country, it’s our country, and when they see me with the Nigeria flag, because I will be running with the Nigeria flag, I believe nobody can harm me.

I just want to make a difference and impact lives because I lost motivation, what you see as impossible, I can prove that it is possible if you put in the efforts and the work required, it’s just based on your mindset and decision.”

Promise added that, “I am a graduate, I finished from UNIPORT 2019, Accounting. I struggled all through school from my year one till final year, the suit I used in my project, I borrowed it, like I struggled throughout school, I didn’t have money for text books, nothing. Well, it’s fine, I had to move to Lagos and till date I haven’t even done anything with the Accounting I studied because I couldn’t get my ICAN, and I didn’t really have passion for the Accounting.”

Nairaland / General / Press Statement On The Ongoing Audit And Temporary Suspension Of N-power Program by Justiceori2019(m): 2:22pm On Oct 08, 2023
PRESS STATEMENT ON THE ONGOING AUDIT AND TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF N-POWER PROGRAM

It is imperative to inform Nigerians, particularly beneficiaries of the N-Power programme across the country, of the temporary suspension of the programme.

This action has become necessary to give room for a detailed investigation into the operations of the N-Power in the last twelve months. The total number of persons on enrolled on NPOWER since inception to date is 960,000 people. Most of them have exited from NPower 1.0 and NPower 2.0 batch A and B

There is a need to audit the number of people in the programme, those who have exited the program, those who are being owed, whether the reported to work or not and how funds have been utilised over this period of time.

Recently, we discovered instances of programme beneficiaries whose participation has lapsed since 2022 but have remained on and continue to expect payments from the government. In addition, some beneficiaries must honour their obligation to the programme: They do not report to their places of primary assignments as required but still receive monthly payments. Some have other jobs and have left this bracket but are still benefiting from the payments, while those who truly worked are not paid

These instances have made the need for a thorough audit imperative, as we also look into claims of those being owed for up to eight to nine months' stipends to ascertain the veracity of their claims. The graduates & non-graduate volunteers Batch C1 & C2 are in this category. We want to establish the exact number of people owed and the total amounts, thereby eliminating ghost beneficiaries.

Preliminary findings of our audit have shown that some consultants are holding on to beneficiaries' funds disbursed to them long ago even when their contract ended in March 2023 without any renewal. We condemn this practice and will not tolerate it going forward. Work is ongoing to identify those involved, understand why the payments didn't get to the final beneficiaries, and recall the funds to pay those owed.

We appeal to Nigerians to understand the rationale behind the temporary suspension and investigation of the programme as we work to restore the nation's confidence in the programme and for the new N-Power to serve Nigerians better. Things have to be properly done for us to move forward.

This restructuring and transformation will also birth an expanded programme to reach beneficiaries aged 18-40 (the previous age limit was 35). We are targeting 5 million beneficiaries in 5 years at a pace of 1 million per year under the graduate and non-graduate stream.

In addition, the restructuring will accommodate some new programmes, in Education, Health, Works, Agriculture, Technology, fashion, entertainment and other relevant areas of skill acquisition and employability.

To earn the confidence of Nigerians in the expanded programme, transparency and accountability will be the benchmark. It shall no longer be business as usual as we make concerted efforts to put the nation on the right footing, ensuring that no one directly or indirectly unleashes suffering on Nigerians.

We assure all beneficiaries with genuine claims that we will resolve their cases once we complete the verification exercise and honour all valid outstanding obligations. Nobody will be owed.

Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo

Honorable Minister of Humanitarian affairs and Poverty alleviation

Nairaland / General / President Tinubu Announces Provisional Pay Increase For Workers by Justiceori2019(m): 7:32am On Oct 01, 2023
Independence Day Broadcast: President Tinubu Announces Provisional Pay Increase for Workers

President Bola Tinubu has announced a provisional salary increase for federal government employees.

Announcing this in his 63rd Independence Day broadcast on Sunday, he said the average low-grade federal worker shall receive an additional N25,000 a month over the next six months.

This will be done in a manner that will not cause inflation.

“We have embarked on several public sector reforms to stabilize the economy, direct fiscal and monetary policy to fight inflation, encourage production, ensure the security of lives and property, and lend more support to the poor and the vulnerable,” he said.

“Based on our talks with labor, business, and other stakeholders, we are introducing a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation.

“For the next six months, the average low-grade worker shall receive an additional N25,000 per month.”

The president also said an Infrastructure Support Fund has been set up for states to invest in critical areas that would lead to grassroots development, in addition to the provision of funds for relief packages against the rising prices of food and other commodities.

But he was silent on the looming indefinite strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

President Tinubu announced that the report of his special investigator on financial misconduct in the Central Bank of Nigeria will soon be presented to him.

Further listing the measures adopted by his administration to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, he explained that bold reforms are necessary for a greater Nigeria.

“I am not a man to erect our national home on a foundation of mud. To endure, our home must be constructed on safe and pleasant ground.

“Reform may be painful, but it is what greatness and the future require. We now carry the costs of reaching a future Nigeria, where the abundance and fruits of the nation are fairly shared among all, not hoarded by a select and greedy few. A Nigeria where hunger, poverty, and hardship are pushed into the shadows of an ever-fading past.

“There is no joy in seeing the people of this nation shoulder burdens that should have been shed years ago. I wish today’s difficulties did not exist. But we must endure if we are to reach the good side of our future.”

The president commended Nigeria’s founding fathers and said nothing could stop the country from attaining its place and destiny in the world.

The 2023 Independence Day broadcast is Bola Tinubu’s first as Nigeria’s president.

19-Year-Old Boy Impregnates His Biological Mother After Using ‘For Girls’ Charm On Her.

In a shocking turn of events, 19-year-old Ekanem has committed an unthinkable act that has left the community in utter disbelief. After impregnating his own mother, he has caused immense grief and abomination to himself. The extent to which this teenage boy was willing to go to satisfy his lustful desires is truly astonishing.

Ekanem had harbored a strong sexual desire for women for a significant period of time and decided to act upon it.

Adolescence is a phase known for heightened sexual desires, but Ekanem took it to a whole new level. He sought the help of a herbalist and obtained a love charm called “For Girls.” His intention was to test this charm on his mother and even the matron at his school. It was a fateful day when Ekanem returned home from school, determined to try out the charm on his mother, who happened to be alone at home.

However, Ekanem had little faith in the charm and considered it nothing more than an experiment. His father, a security guard, was away on duty in another state for several months, leaving the mother and son alone in the house. Seizing the opportunity, Ekanem followed the instructions given by his spiritualist or herbalist and entered his mother’s room.

To his surprise, his mother instantly succumbed to him upon seeing him, under the influence of the charm. Ekanem took advantage of this vulnerable situation and engaged in a sexual relationship with his own mother. It was only after three months when his mother discovered she was pregnant that the truth came to light.

Immediately, she informed her husband, who denied any involvement in the pregnancy due to his absence during those months. As tensions escalated, the mother began to suspect that someone familiar to her son had been entering her room. With fear in her heart, she confronted Ekanem, who responded with threats of violence if she dared to reveal the truth. Overwhelmed and scared, the mother mustered the courage to report the case to the police, leading to the arrest of Ekanem.

During the investigation, Ekanem confessed to being responsible for the pregnancy and begged for forgiveness. However, the damage caused by his actions was irreversible. The community is left in shock and disbelief, grappling.

Alleged Fake Result: Reps Ask JAMB to Stay Action.

The House of Representatives has urged the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to stay any punitive actions against Miss Joy Mmesoma Ejikeme over alleged falsification of her JAMB score.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Rep. Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP-Bayelsa) at plenary in Abuja on Wednesday.

Recall that Ejikeme had claimed to have scored 362 as against 249 which the board recorded as her score in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) through JAMB.

He said Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, Anambra, sat for the 2023 UTME and claimed to have scored 362.

Abiante said on July 2, JAMB Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin n a statement, accused Ejikeme of manipulating her UTME score from 249 to 362 .

He said Ejikeme came out to defend herself, that she actually printed the result from the JAMB website and had been a brilliant child all through her nursery and secondary education.

He said Mmesoma came first in all the examinations she had been taking before the UTME, hence she posited that she was not capable of manipulating her UTME result.

According to him, cognisant of the fact that uploading or downloading result of examinations or polls electronically, in Nigeria, glitches can occur at any time, hence the need to establish the facts before any blames.

He said Benjamin had earlier alleged that some of the 2023 UTME candidates were parading fake scores in order to get undue advantage from the public, hence the need to investigate the allegation.

The house, therefore, set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged manipulation of Ejikeme’s UTME results and report back within one week for further legislative action.
