Education / Federal Polytechnic Nekede Is Working Hard To Be Africa’s Best-performing Polyte by Justiceori2019(m): 7:05pm On Nov 17, 2022
FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE IS WORKING HARD TO BE AFRICA’S BEST-PERFORMING POLYTECHNIC – RECTOR ARIMANWA.

Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, JP, has stated that his institution is working very hard to emerge Africa’s best-performing polytechnic.

The Rector said this Thursday while declaring open the 1st International Conference on Security organized by the School of General Studies of the institution which is billed to last three days.

According to the Rector, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede has remained the best-performing polytechnic in Nigeria and the most-sought-after by JAMB, a reason why his administration is working hard to embrace and sustain the international best practices in teaching and learning.

He also posited that his administration is working hard to give global visibility to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede through excellent service delivery. The Rector commended the idea of an international conference on security in view of the rising spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

Hear him, “I am delighted with this conference that has international coloration. And I commend the Dean, Dr Anayo Uhiara and the organizers of the conference, for this project. It is my hope that beyond the intellectual discussions and parleys on insecurity, there will be practical solutions proffered.

"Indeed, the communique issued at the end of the conference would be very vital to the government in its determined effort to end insecurity. Insecurity has affected everyone terribly. Our economy is nosediving and it is adversely affecting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Nigeria. So what we need now is solution which we hope to have after this international conference.”

Earlier in his address, the Dean of School of General Studies, Dr. Anayo Uhiara, had welcomed the Rector and participants to the conference, stressing that the academic gathering had become necessary in view of the “threat being posed by insecurity of lives and property in almost all states in Nigeria, and even beyond.”

In their separate remarks, the Keynote Speaker, Prof Samuel Ezeanyika of the Imo State University pointed out that insecurity affects farming and the economy very adversely; while the lead paper presenter, Dr. Austin Onuoha identified insecurity as emanating from the action or inaction of leadership, charging government to reinforce and resource all constitutional channels through which citizens can ventilate their grievances, with a view to acting on them very promptly.

Education / NBTE, UNICEF Applaud Federal Polytechnic Nekede On Curriculum Development. by Justiceori2019(m): 3:18pm On Nov 07, 2022
NBTE, UNICEF Applaud Federal Polytechnic Nekede on Curriculum Development.

From: Emma Ogu, Kano

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, has shone like a star at the on-going national conference on curriculum development in Kano, as critical stakeholders in Mass Communication gave kudos to Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, JP, for setting the ball rolling in the unbundling of Mass Communication programme in the nation’s Polytechnics, a move hailed across the country. This affirms the adage that Federal Polytechnic Nekede leads while others follow if they could.

Speaking at the Kano workshop holding at Tahir Guest Palace Kano, NBTE director of curriculum development, Mallam Musa Isgogo praised the initiative of Engr. Arimanwa on the unbundling issue, pointing out that apart from initiating and successfully hosting the first national conference on the issue, FEDPONEK has fulfilled all its financial requirements for the commencement of the programme.

Mallam Isgogo, noted that the application by FEDPONEK for the unbundling of Mass Communication programme and the subsequent July workshop in Owerri provided the window for UNICEF to make a case for inclusion of Child Right Reporting into the curriculum as a general course.

He urged other Polytechnics yet to meet their financial requirements for the unbundling exercise to do so to the NBTE to enable the remaining two prongs of the unbundled mass communication programme to be quickly attended to.It will be recalled that FEDPONEK, last July, hosted a national conference of the stakeholders in the Polytechnic education for the unbundling of Mass Communication programme, after creating a new school, School of Mass Communication and Information to house the emerging five proposed departments.

The move paid off recently as the supervisory body, NBTE, after series of follow-up meetings and consultations on the unbundling proposal gave its nod, hence the Kano 6-day pre-critique workshop to develop a draft national curriculum for new courses relevant to one of the three approved departments for the Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme, (Strategic Communication and Media Studies) for the nation’s polytechnics. The other departments include: Journalism and Media Studies as well as Film and Multimedia Production.

Among the new courses to be studied alongside updated existing ones is Child Rights Reporting, a brainchild of United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF).Similarly, UNICEF consultant, Dr. Noel Ihebuzor, also applauded the initiative of FEDPONEK Rector on the unbundling exercise, describing the three approved departments as a modest step that would be easier to manage. He also stated that the Child-Right Reporting course would equip graduates of Strategic Communication and Media Studies with the right tools to report child-right promotion effectively.

According to him, issues of child-right promotion should be properly reported as children constitute fifty percent of the population; hence anything that will affect their lives should be given proper attention because a healthier child is a happier child. In his remarks, UNICEF Communication Specialist, Dr. Geoffrey Njoku who was favourably disposed to the unbundling of the mass communication programme stated that the Owerri conference for the exercise provided the needed opportunity for UNICEF to make presentation for mainstreaming of Child Right Reporting into the school curriculum after ten years of its school to school advocacy programme on child right promotion, Dr. Njoku, explained that with the inclusion of the course in the school curriculum, potential journalists would be trained to become child-friendly and know the rights of the child while in school.

Meanwhile, NBTE boss Prof. Idris M. Bugeje, while declaring the event open, urged the participants to look at the prevalent child right violation issue critically in their assignment, describing it as a disturbing global issue begging for serious attention.Hear him: “In all your places and even in the streets of Kano where you are now, one will see evidence of the global violation of child right. I urge you to look at the issue without sentiment. This is a great national assignment,” the NBTE boss stated. Professor Bugaje who was ably represented by his aide, Ibrahim Bashir Belle, disclosed that NBTE is also working towards unbundling some other courses including Computer programme for which FEDPONEK is the first to apply.

In their joint address, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya and Director Advocacy/Child Rights Information Bureau, Madam Mary Megwa commended UNICEF for its unyielding support to the federal government of Nigeria and all its activities towards ensuring that the rights of Nigerian children are upheld. Both officials who were represented by Zira Zakka Nagga, assistant chief information officer CRIB of federal ministry of information and culture stated teachers of mass communication has a great responsibility to produce graduates who will protect the rights of children through their stories and therefore, tasked the participants to come up with a curriculum that will serve to impart the right knowledge the students need to protect and promote the rights of the child.

Other participants at the workshop include Dr. Yenusu Bangboye, Executive Secretary of Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), Mrs. Fankeye of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA International), Aiyelabelan Chinwe Jameelah of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Binta Mohammed Lawal, Kano State Polytechnic, Aminu Sani Inuwa, NBTE Kaduna, Dr. Jide Johnson, Institute of Journalism Lagos, Mrs Esther Damisa of NBTE Kaduna Farida Amad Umar, NBTE Kaduna, Samaila Balarabe HUK Polytechnic Katsina, Emma. C. Ogu of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and many others.

It is noteworthy that Federal Polytechnic Nekede has always been taking the lead in curriculum development. This is one critical area the Arimanwa administration has performed immensely well.

The unbundling of the Mass Communication Studies and Computer Studies into units and departments is bound to produce excellent manpower in specific areas that explore the two disciplines. This notably conforms with the modern realities and dynamics of this digital era than the forms they used to be.

It is laudable that the Federal Polytechnic Nekede has blazed a trail in this regard, thus thinking ahead when others are just comfortable with the current knowledge forms. It bears saying that upon assumption as 8th substantive Rector of the institution, Arimanwa increased the number of Schools in the Federal Polytechnic Nekede from five to seven in only four years.

He also phenomenally increased the number of programmes from about forty to sixty five. Yet, he is not resting on his oars as pragmatic plans are underway to introduce more programmes and even unbundle departments that need to be unbundled for the purpose of efficiency.

The implication of this is that Rector Arimanwa is steadily making Nekede a destination of choice for candidates seeking admission to higher institutions. No one would like to go to a distant institution in search of a choice programme because Nekede almost has all the choice programmes a modern Nigerian Polytechnic runs.Already, the Rector is on the verge of opening a new School that would house unbundled departments from Computer Studies. This would create room for an expanded curriculum, manpower and of course, knowledge forms.

Evidently, FEDPONEK under Arimanwa leads all Nigerian Polytechnics in the area of curriculum development and resource expansion. Thus, the Polytechnic is living up to its calling as a modern higher citadel of learning with its burden of knowledge impartation, research and social development.

Markedly, all the successes recorded so far are attributable to the dynamism of leadership brought to bear by the Rector.

Education / Federal Polytechnic Nekede Clears Air On Misunderstanding Of Management Decision by Justiceori2019(m): 9:31pm On Oct 30, 2022
NEKEDE CORRECTS THE MISINFORMATION REGARDING THE QR-CODES ON RESULTS AND ALLIED ISSUES

It has become expedient to correct the wave of misinformation on QR-Codes on certificates and matters relating to textbooks and O/Level verification. There seems to be a calculated attempt to defame the Management of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede. This is even while the Management evidently works hard to make the institution maintain its leading position in the country.

The introduction of the Quick Response (QR) codes on certificates and other sensitive documents such as Statement of Result and transcripts is a commendable idea mooted by the Rector in line with his Smart Campus Project to check incidences of fake results. This was after the sad event of 2021 when NYSC sent the Polytechnic the results of four fake students who claimed they were students of the institution.

It is commendable that the Federal Polytechnic Nekede had commenced the process of having the QR-codes on the results before an official memo by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) directing all Polytechnics to embrace the technology. It is only natural that the process would come with an additional cost implication. The Management in its wisdom pegged the price of collecting the Statement of Results and Certificates which carry the technology at N5000 and 10000, respectively. It is important to posit that the QR-Code makes a student’s results valuable anywhere in the world.

In clear terms, the credibility or otherwise of a result is easily discovered with the technology. And the Federal Polytechnic Nekede is already blazing a trail in this direction. Now, instead of commending Management for this noble step, some people go to the social media to make misguided remarks against the institution. It is even more unfortunate that some students are allegedly rejecting the new technology of checking fraudulent results, obviously out of ignorance.

On the issue of textbooks, the Management has set the pace in moderation by making the price pf textbooks affordable. It is on record that the Federal Polytechnic Nekede has the lowest price regime in textbooks across higher institutions in Nigeria where there is virtually no price ceiling.

It is on record that the maximum price of textbooks in the institution is N2500 while the minimum is N800. It is commendable that the Rector declared that textbooks are not compulsory; what more, students are at liberty to report any lecturer who sells textbooks above approved prices. Instructively, four phone numbers were released to students to make their complaints. It therefore beggars belief that any student is complaining of extortion in this regard.

Regarding the O/Level verification, it is important to note that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) recently increased their verification fee by 100 percent, where the owner of a certificate is expected to pay for its verification. The said verification is paid at the point of entry into ND I and HND I. Instead of agitating, students have a choice of changing to other institutions where they admit students without verification or where the institution bears the cost of verifying students’ results.

Having gone this far, it is unfortunate that some students are still being misguided in believing that Nigerian students in Federal Polytechnic Nekede are extorted. We have taken note of the purveyors of the defamatory remarks on the social media against the Polytechnic Management.

Their aim is to discredit the institution to achieve sinister motives. It has become necessary to tell these merchants of fake news to steer clear of the institution as law enforcement agencies have been directed to do the needful. The Rector remains undaunted in the task of taking the Polytechnic to the greatest height possible.

Under the leadership of Engr. Dr. M.C. Arimanwa FNSE, JP, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede has maintained an enviable position as the number one polytechnic and the most-sought-after polytechnic in Nigeria. The number of schools and programme has increased, thereby giving students latitude to make informed choices in career prospects. The institution has not lost accreditation under the Rector.

Students now pay only N50 per drop while using the newly launched campus shuttle buses. There is a massive deployment of digital infrastructure and technology to make Nigerian students better in their studies. Ultimately, the Rector is deliberate and capable enough to keep the institution’s flag flying high.

Let it be noted by the public that the Rector and his team of Management are guided by reason what they do. Thus, whatever decision they take is justifiable and in the interest Nigerian students.

Federal Polytechnic Nekede Inaugurates Campus Shuttle Service.

In another trail-blazing move, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, JP, has inaugurated the first Campus Shuttle Service in the frontline Polytechnic. The bus service effectively replaces the motorcycle service hitherto operational in the institution. The service is a product of a partnership between the Polytechnic and a company, Campus Pilot Ltd.

Performing the flag-off a fleet of over 45 new buses Wednesday, the Rector expressed delight at another mark of history in the institution in the area of transportation. He expressed confidence that the bus service which charges only N50 per drop has come to address issues of safety and stability.

According to the award-winning Rector, “We have made every effort to ensure that we have a very affordable system of transportation. Before now, we used to have a commercial motorcycle operation which posed a challenge in safety and sustainability. Again, the operators usually reneged on agreements reached in terms of cost and safety measures hence we issued a ban on bike operations on campus.

“Today, we have a shuttle service that is affordable, environment-friendly and safe, which operate on designated routes across the campus. We are also happy that the service is digitally operated as there are smart security codes that can make a passenger decode the identity of the driver conveying them while using a smart phone. I however charge drivers to wear uniforms and put on name tags as a simple means of identification. The operators must ensure the buses do not exceed stipulated speed limits on campus.

“We are happy, meanwhile, that the Campus Shuttle Ltd has acquitted itself as we never heard of any case of accident or incident in the course of their trial period. Our medical facility did not admit any injured student in the course of their operation. This is a clear departure from the era of motorcycle operation with its risks and hazards. We therefore pray that God would make the buses serve the purpose for which they were procured.”

Earlier, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Okafo Okeraffia, described the day as special while listing the gains of the service to include affordability, safety and environment friendliness, adding that officials of the Student Union Government would enjoy free services upon tendering their identity card.

The operations officer of the company, Mr. Kingsley Arinzechukwu, had thanked the Rector for the wonderful environment and technological advancement of the Polytechnic. He also spelt out the various routes which the buses would ply and the stations they would operate.

In a goodwill message, Mr. Ejike PraiseGod, Deputy Coordinator, NANS, South East, Zone F, commended the Rector for his proactiveness in getting a credible alternative means of transportation after the ban of bike operations. He also commended the Rector for redefining leadership since he assumed office as 8th substantive Rector.

Similarly, the Divisional Police Officer for Ihiagwa Police Division saluted the Rector on his numerous achievements which are in the public domain. He expressed joy in being invited to the epochal event, describing the Poly chief as a true servant of God who has shown overwhelming commitment and purpose in the service of his country.

It would be recalled that the campus bus shuttle was introduced at the wake of the ban imposed on motorcycle operations in the Polytechnic. The Rector had had cause to ban the bike service due to obvious inefficiency and recalcitrance of the operators. He also promised to introduce a transport operation in line with the new transportation policy of the pace-setting Polytechnic.

Remarkably, the Rector has promised to deploy the electric car invented by the institution upon its mass production.

Education / Federal Polytechnic Nekede Launches Tissue Paper Factory. by Justiceori2019(m): 5:02am On Sep 29, 2022
EXCITEMENT AS FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE LAUNCHES TISSUE PAPER FACTORY.

History has again been made in Federal Polytechnic Nekede as the institution Wednesday launched a tissue paper factory.

Unveiling the first products of the factory at the main auditorium of the polytechnic, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, JP, expressed joy at the actualization of the project which has become a milestone in his administration. He also announced that the product, PolyNek Tissue, was made of high quality materials hence could withstand the pressure of competition.

In his words, “We are glad to produce and launch a topnotch tissue paper. This product can compete in quality and price with others in the market. With the establishment of a tissue factory, this institution would no longer procure tissue papers from outside. We will ensure the product is distributed across hotels. We will also create outlets in supermarkets and super stores.”

The Rector also announced that students of the institution would no longer go outside to purchase tissue papers as the Division of Student Affairs “would be pivotal in distributing the products among students.” In addition, the polytechnic chief disclosed that his institution would further delve into the production of serviette papers to meet the demands of the market.

The tissue paper, according to the Rector were in various sizes of small, medium and jumbo, expressing optimism that the institution would continue to justify its status as a foremost technology-based institution in Nigeria.
Lecturers and students of the polytechnic who were seated in large numbers at the auditorium could not hide their excitement as they cheered the Rector with intermittent ovations.

In the spirit of market awareness and product campaign, the Rector directed that the new product, PolyNek Tissue, be shared to staff and students at the venue for free. Thus, two people were given a pack of the product containing a dozen to share. The Rector’s act of benevolence literally electrified the auditorium as staff and students hailed him for the move.

The institution’s foray into the production of tissue paper can best be described as a courageous and innovative move, coming at a seemingly difficult economic time. It is also a product of committed leadership for which the Arimanwa administration is known.

Besides the tissue paper factory, the polytechnic also has a functional table water factory that produces the PolyNek Water, rated among the best in Owerri. It equally has a nail factory that can meet the industrial needs of developers.

Elsewhere, the Rector, noted for his pragmatic approach to leadership, had disclosed that he had other initiatives that would greatly open up the polytechnic for business.

Meanwhile, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede is set to make history again as it opens its world-class fishery for business. The fishery has capacity to produce tilapia fish in commercial quantity.

This gesture is a product of a productive exchange programme between the polytechnic and the Lofty Farms of Lome, Togo, noted for the production of the largest tons of tilapia fish in West Africa. Similarly, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede would be a major player in tilapia fish value chain in Southeast Nigeria.

Education / Fedpolynek Rector, Arimanwa, Bags Fellowship Award by Justiceori2019(m): 7:21pm On Sep 27, 2022
*FEDPOLYNEK RECTOR, ARIMANWA, BAGS FELLOWSHIP AWARD*

- *DECRIES NON-PARTICIPATION OF SOUTHEAST IN ACTIVITIES OF PROFESSIONAL BODIES*

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa, FNSE, JP, has bagged a Fellowship award from the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria.

The Rector was Tuesday decorated with the remarkable award by the Registrar of the Institute, Dr. Uche Okereke, who led a team of Council members of the body to the polytechnic.

In a speech preceding the administration of the fellowship induction oath, the Registrar commended the Rector for his numerous landmark and innovative achievements that have placed the polytechnic as a leading institution in Nigeria. He described the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria as a creation of the law, empowered to induct people of good pedigree as fellows of the institute. He also hinted that the body has legal powers to induct local government workers into its fold after passing a qualifying examination, revealing that some states had already invited the body to induct their workers.

The Registrar further expressed the readiness of the institute to collaborate with the polytechnic, while appealing that the polytechnic serve as centre for the administration of the institute’s professional exams.

In his remarks after taking the oath of induction as Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria (FCPA), the Rector thanked the body for considering him for the important fellowship investiture.

“I want to thank you for finding me worthy to receive this award. I have seen the gazetted act of the institute, and I shall do whatever that is required to promote studies in Local Government Administration. Regarding your request to collaborate with our institution to administer examinations to your members, we shall look into that very expeditiously.”

Meanwhile, the Rector has decried the non-participation of the southeasterners in the activities of professional organizations in Nigeria, declaring that it was unhelpful to their cause since only people who participate in a meeting or activity formulate policies guiding it.

“I tell people that if you cannot participate in what is going on, you cannot influence policies or opinions. It is only when you participate in a meeting that you can make impact on its outcome. I urge you therefore to embark on further sensitization in the southeast so that more members and fellows can be inducted by the institute. The southeast seems disadvantaged as it has marginal presence in virtually all professional bodies. When you go to conferences, you hardly find people from this part of the country as their peers in the other parts of the country, especially, the west, have a pronounced presence.”

The sterling performance of the smart Rector in human and infrastructural development of the polytechnic has earned him numerous merit and fellowship awards. The awards and decorations have been described as morale boosters by observers.

Those present at the fellowship investiture of the Rector were the Deputy Rectors Academic and Administration, Dr. C.C. Onyemenonu and Dr. Uzoma Ibeaja; Registrar, Mrs. E.C. Anuna, Bursar, Mr. V.N. Anyanwucha and Librarian, Dr. Chris Enyia, among others.

Education / Federal Polytechnic Nekede Deploys Turnitin Software To Check Plagiarism by Justiceori2019(m): 8:50pm On Sep 14, 2022
*Federal Polytechnic Nekede Deploys Turnitin Software to check plagiarism*
- *Emerges first Polytechnic in Eastern Nigeria to do so*
- *Rector assures unflinching commitment to culture of excellence*

Federal Polytechnic Nekede has acquired a special software called Turnitin to check incidences of plagiarism bedeviling the academia. This development, according to officials of the software company, has effectively made the institution the first Polytechnic East of the Niger that has so deployed the technology which can detect academic fraud within five minutes.

Meanwhile, the digital Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, JP, has expressed the commitment of his institution to bequeath a culture of excellence and integrity through the deployment of the anti-plagiarism software, Turnitin.

The Rector made this remark Wednesday at a seminar organized for members of the Anti-Plagiarism Committee of the polytechnic held at the council chambers. The successful deployment of the software, according to the poly chief, is in consonance with the culture of excellence which his administration has enthroned in the running of the polytechnic.

According to the award-winning Rector, “The idea of the software is to check all forms of dishonesty in publications and intellectual enterprise. It will contain the recurrence of intellectual theft amongst academics. The software is also programmed to identify the source of any copied work with the aim of exposing the people involved.”

To this end, the polytechnic chief executive has advocated the setting up of an institutional repository to contain the published works of lecturers in the institution. This, according to the Rector, will make it easy for scholars to put their works online to test or protect their integrity.

The Rector used the occasion to condemn the menace of plagiarism which he identified as a factor undermining hard work amongst scholars. He cited the case of a certain Reader in a university whose papers failed the anti-plagiarism test, prompting the university to demote him to the rank of lecturer I, in addition to his forfeiting promotion for five years after the said event. He therefore warned that lecturers must imbibe the culture of hardwork so as not to be caught in the web of plagiarism.

Moving forward, the Rector hinted that all lecturers would soon be required to send digital copies of their works so that they could be published online.

He also promised to deploy the Turnitin software in the areas of continuing education and distance learning. “This will enable people who cannot leave their locations at any material time to receive lectures while some distance away,” the Rector concluded.

Rector Arimanwa also enjoined members of the committee to work hard so that they would in turn train others in the community. He thanked them for their commitment over the years to the anti-plagiarism fight, promising henceforth to deploy the technology on any work that would be sent for external assessment.

The climax of the ceremony was the formal presentation of the evidence of the anti-plagiarism software registration to the Rector by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Chris Enyia, who also expressed joy that the institution had successfully subscribed to the latest version of the software, thanking the Rector for his noble vision in repositioning the polytechnic for excellent strides.

It is noteworthy that the Turnitin software aims at ensuring integrity in global education in order to improve learning outcomes. Records show that over 90% of performing universities globally have deployed the software.

Remarkably, Federal Polytechnic Nekede is the first polytechnic in Eastern Nigeria (southsouth and southeast) to deploy the technology and the third in Nigeria after Yaba College of Technology and Federal Polytechnic Ede.

Education / Fedponek Achievements In Human Capital Development Unprecedented by Justiceori2019(m): 1:43pm On Sep 12, 2022
*OUR ACHIEVEMENTS IN HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT UNPRECEDENTED IN THE HISTORY OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE, SAYS RECTOR*

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. M.C. Arimanwa FNSE JP, says that his administration has recorded an unprecedented feat in human capital development in the history of the polytechnic.

The smart Rector made this remarkable revelation when the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NTA Chapel, paid him a courtesy visit in his office last Friday.

Fielding questions from the visiting journalists, the Rector stated that his administration had carried out the largest single staff recruitment in the history of the polytechnic which helped to bolster the staff strength of the institution. It was by the strength of the feat, according to the Rector, that the polytechnic was able to establish two more school and increase its programmes.

Furthermore, Rector Arimanwa revealed that in the last three years, his administration had sent more staff abroad for Masters and PhD programmes than the institution had done in ten years.

In the area of research, the award-winning Rector stated that the polytechnic under his watch has made numerous achievements to justify its calling as a technology-based institution.

According to him, the polytechnic has developed an electric vehicle and has enormous capacity of mass-producing it, once funds are available.

Other inventions besides the automated hand-washing machines produced at the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak include a spy-jet, fast furnace (that melts steel in 15 minutes) and farm equipment such as coconut dehusking machine, palm fruit processing machine and cassava processing machine, among others.

The Rector also revealed that the electric car produced by the polytechnic had made a tour of the country in so many technology exhibitions and world soon be taken to Canada for an exhibition, adding that the institution has capacity to improve on the quality of the vehicle and make mass production for mass transit when adequately supported.

The poly chief also disclosed that the institution would soon establish a skill acquisition centre to train people who lack requisite qualifications in different areas of artisanry. The Rector also stated that his institution already has MoU with OSHA-UK to train people in Occupational Safety and Health after which they get certificated without any formal qualifications.

On the issue of curriculum development and review, Rector Arimanwa told his visitors that the Federal Polytechnic Nekede is on the vanguard of the unbundling of the Mass Communication Department into six disparate programmes, revealing that the institution has already secured approval to unbundle the Mass Communication Department.

Similarly, he posited that the institution is championing the unbundling of the Computer Department into more specific and goal-oriented programmes to meet the growing realities of the 21st century Nigeria. The Rector equally disclosed measures taken to check acts of infractions by members of staff.

According to the poly supremo, “We have a thriving mechanism for checking lecturers who exploit students in any guise. We also have a Quality Assurance Unit which ensures that workers fulfill their mandate. There are also SERVICOM, FEPNOWA, WITEC, Dean, Student Affairs and relevant directors who are empowered to receive reports from students so that the Management can promptly act on them.”

The Rector also stated in unequivocal terms that the polytechnic does not relent in taking action against any staff found culpable of any infraction.

*BREAKING:RECTOR RECEIVES CAMPUS PILOT LTD IN AUDIENCE*

As part of the transport policy initiatives of the institution, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. M.C. Arimanwa FNSE, JP, yesterday received in audience the management of Campus Pilot Ltd at the council chambers.

The group led by its Chief Operating Officer, Kingsley Arinzechukwu, was at the polytechnic with a policy document of how it would run a comprehensive campus shuttle service in the polytechnic.

This service effectively replaces the bike operation which was banned last month due to ineffectiveness and associated operational risks.

Briefing an audience that comprised the Rector and his management team on the one hand, and the Student Union Government on the other, the group declared its readiness to deploy over one hundred buses manned by competent drivers across four designated routes in the polytechnic.

It also hinted about the use of technology to ensure the security of passengers as each bus has a code which when scanned with a phone reveals the particulars of the driver of the bus.

The seven-seater bus is also projected to have a speed-limit system which would ensure safety on campus. It promises to run a smooth and organized transport system at an affordable cost of N50 per drop.

The group commended the Rector on the well-paved roads which make the polytechnic pliable for transport service. It also poured encomiums on the Rector for the electric car which he engineered its production, promising to integrate the electric cars in the shuttle service whenever they are available for commercial use.

Similarly, the group praised the Rector for being the best head of a tertiary institution in Southeast in the deployment of technology, promising to partner with him in this regard.

Responding, the smart Rector thanked the organization for being thoughtful in deploying technology to run the bus service, stating that the use of technology is effective in solving many challenges associated with information and safety in the transport sector.

He also promised to consult with his management team with a view to possibly enlisting their services in the polytechnic.

The shuttle bus initiative is part of the transport policy formulation earlier promised by the digital Rector at the wake of the ban he imposed on bike services.

Meanwhile, the digital Rector has received kudos from many quarters for taking the bold step in ensuring an efficient 21st century transport system in the frontline institution.

Education / Rector Arimanwa Switches On Wifi Network In Federal Polytechnic Nekede by Justiceori2019(m): 7:42pm On Aug 06, 2022
EXPECTATIONS AS RECTOR ARIMANWA SWITCHES ON WIFI NETWORK IN FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede is at the threshold of history as the smart Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, last Friday performed the switching-on ceremony of a robust Wi-Fi network in the frontline polytechnic.

The launch of the 24-hour internet service is a product of an ambitious period of laying an underground fibre optic cable round the entire campus projected to last more than a hundred years. In his remarks, the Rector recounted how he had embarked upon the SmartCampus project to solve the myriad of operational problems facing the institution.

In his remarks while switching on the digital deployment the Rector said: “When I came in as Rector, I knew what the problems of the institution were, having schooled here and worked since 1993 in the institution. I realized that the solution to many of the problems was to create a smart campus system where one may need a minimal human contact to achieve anything. By implication, you can stay anywhere and make a transaction with the polytechnic without going to queue up behind any office.

“We are therefore creating a system that will survive us, a system that will endure for over a hundred years, for as long as we do not willfully destroy it. The facilities we are seeing today are still open for further expansion till we get to its maximum point. However, what we have is enough to solve the existential challenges which the digital technology can solve. All offices and buildings in the polytechnic have robust internet facilities, both land and Wi-fi. This will help us to recreate and reinvent our polytechnic to a modern institution of higher learning befitting of its status.”

The Rector also hinted that the robust internet service in the polytechnic would come with a 24-hour security surveillance of the institution, warning staff and students to be wary of what they do in the institution as the polytechnic had a database in the cloud space where information from the surveillance is stored and recalled for use.

Earlier, the Director of the ICT Directorate, Engr. Mary Nwakanma, had stated that the fibre cables had over 32 access points which support a non-stop internet deployment. She also disclosed that access points could be expanded in due course and as the need arises. She poured encomiums on the Rector for the progressive idea of a SmartCampus project in a 21st century period.

The switching-on of the Wi-Fi internet deployment in the polytechnic is a cardinal agenda of the SmartCampus Project of the Rector, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE, intended to turn the polytechnic to a typical 21st century of note, where digital technology is deployed to solve problems with less human contact. There are therefore expectations trailing this epic launch.

According to Dr. Ijeoma Emeagi of the Department of Computer Science, the Rector deserves all the commendation for the project as it would foster research and learning. She also expressed expectation that staff would leverage on it to write papers and attain visibility online.

On her own, Dr. Raymonda Obioha of the Registry commended the Rector for the project as it would ease off the operations of the division, expressing hope that screening officers would learn to be proactive and make good use of the technology. She further praised the management of the polytechnic for the great initiatives of giving the institution visibility in the country.

Meanwhile, the Dean, Student Affairs Division of the Polytechnic, Dr. Okafo Okoreaffia, has commended the Rector and his management team for actualizing the dream of a robust internet service in the polytechnic. According to Okoreaffia, “The students are looking forward to the benefits of the project. For one, it will propel others to come and take up bed spaces in the hostels as there will be a 24-hour internet service in the hostels.”

Speaking on behalf of the students, the vice president of the Student Union Government, Comr. Chiamaka Ochiuba, praised the Rector for the privilege of lighting up the entire campus with a Wi-Fi network, at a time most institutions have yet to enjoy such a facility. According to her, the facility would enable students browse online to solve their academic problems while saving their internet data.

In the same vein, Miss Peculiar Osegi, a student of the Department of Computer Engineering lauded the Rector for fulfilling the dream of students of the polytechnic, promising to make good use of the facility to further her academic enterprise in the polytechnic. It will be recalled that the Rector’s SmartCampus project is a programme envisioned to take the institution to greater heights since the ICT has capacity to solve institutional and operational challenges.

In a chat with FEDPONEK GAZETTE prior to the programme, the Rector stated that he was moved to create a system of digital operations that would endure the test of time in the polytechnic – a system that would expunge any form of tech-phobia and drive a cutting-edge institution of higher learning.

The launch of the project was done in three access points of the facility after which a stop over was made at the 1000-capacity auditorium. It was at the auditorium that the Rector received goodwill messages from staff and students. After this, the Rector and his management team alongside deans and directors of the polytechnic retired to the Council Chambers where the final ceremony was performed.

Education / Federal Polytechnic Nekede Holds 44th Matriculation In Style. by Justiceori2019(m): 3:26am On Jul 15, 2022
FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE HOLDS 44TH MATRICULATION IN STYLE.

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri has held her 44th Matriculation ceremony with pomp and colours. The occasion marked the formal initiation of students into the prestigious institution of higher learning. The epoch-making event held earlier today at the Polytechnic mini-stadium attracted thousands of students, both new and old, as well as parents and well-wishers of the matriculants.

The atmosphere of the event could best be described as stately and momentous with the symbolic donning of gowns amid ovations and funfair. The high point of the occasion was the administration of the Matriculation Oath on the new students in a ceremony presided over by the Rector of the institution.

In his Matriculation Address, the Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE congratulated the students for being among the “lucky few out of the more than 50,000 candidates that applied for admission into our institution this year.” He charged them to be focused on the primary objective of their studentship which is to study and graduate successfully to become professionals in their chosen fields of endeavour.

To be able to achieve their set targets, the Rector advised the students to take their lectures very seriously while avoiding tutorials by students who could only bring about some confusion. In his words, "Do all your assignments and tests. Don’t miss any classes and if you unavoidably do, then copy notes, revise the topics and avoid tutorials by students who may damage what your lecturers have taught you. Use the library judiciously and you will achieve success in your examinations.”

The Rector was also quick to remind the matriculating students to be conscious of the character they portray.
According to the poly supremo, the Academic Board of the polytechnic would not consider any deviant student as a graduate of the institution. To this end, the poly chief charged the freshmen to ensure that their “Character must at all times be clean and unquestionable so that you will not constitute an embarrassment to yourself.”

Accordingly, the award-winning Rector reminded the students that the Federal Polytechnic Nekede to which they have been admitted is "a brand built on decency and the best standards of academic and behavioural excellence,” a reason they must strive to become worthy ambassadors of the Polytechnic.

The Rector also used the occasion to read the riot act to the matriculating students on the dos and don’ts of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede. Essentially, he charged the students to avoid any form of indecency or inappropriate dressing.
He declared his administration’s zero-tolerance to examination malpractice, insisting that anyone found culpable would be summarily expelled.

Furthermore, the smart Rector affirmed that the polytechnic under his watch would not tolerate any form of cultism, advising students to shun all evil associations and clandestine relationships which could lead to their rustication.

The Rector equally issued a warning to the freshmen to be wary of co-habitation as their parents did not send them to school “to become or act as illegal wives or husbands and end up with unwanted pregnancies or babies instead of your graduation certificates.” The digital Rector reminded the students to avoid late nights which result in rape and other avoidable consequences.

Similarly, he admonished them to be wary of night parties which are breeding grounds for all manner of immorality.Moving forward, the Rector charged the new students to take advantage of the excellent facilities of the Polytechnic to add value to themselves. He referred to his Smart Campus Initiative which has digitized every operation in the institution as one area which students should key into.

The Rector further hinted that in less than two weeks, the total internet coverage of the Polytechnic would have been completed which would lead to a 24-hour internet service in every nook and cranny of the institution, a feat which would offer a robust service for research and profitable digital operations.

He, however, added that students should avoid the temptation of using the services for pornography and other forms of internet fraud. In the same spirit, the Rector announced that the Polytechnic Library which is fully digitized is well equipped to offer e-library services to students, urging the freshmen to take advantage of the facility.

Accordingly, the poly chief declared that with the e-library in place, “no student of the institution has any excuse to fail an examination for research or reading materials because the resources for success are already available.”

Similarly, the Rector hinted that the Polytechnic has a well-developed entrepreneurial centre which is there to inculcate the spirit of self-reliance into students. To this effect, he charged the matriculants to strive to acquire a skill before they graduate in order to add value to their personalities, a factor that would prevent them from becoming educated liabilities to their families and social milieus.

Fundamentally, the Rector made a case for parents to form the habit of monitoring their wards as a means of living up to their parental responsibility. According to the Rector, parents “can help us by checking on your wards frequently and unannounced. Always monitor their academic progress. The records are available in the departments. Do not indulge them no matter how you love them.”

Dignitaries present at the historic ceremony included the Acting Chairman of the 14th Governing Council, Sqd. Ldr. Chima Idika Chima (Rtd) and some members of the Council. There were also representatives from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other institutions. Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, which earlier in the year signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Polytechnic also sent a representative who in his goodwill reaffirmed his company’s commitment to the MoU.

One of the highlights of the event was the offer of scholarship to five matriculating students of the institution by the Rector, Engr. Dr. M.C. Arimanwa FNSE. One of the students, Jennifer Eleaka, a disabled student of Mass Communication read an address on behalf other matriculants. Some others were given scholarship for daring to read courses that were presumably for a certain gender.

One of the scholarship recipients told FEDPONEK GAZETTE that the Rector’s kind gesture was an answer to her prayer as her parents would no longer shoulder the responsibility for her tuition payment, praying that God would bless the Rector for his kind-heartedness.

RECTOR ARIMANWA APPLAUDS TETFUND’S INTERVENTIONS IN EDUCATION

The award-winning Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr. Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa, has applauded the interventionist efforts of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund aimed at uplifting the status of education in Nigeria.

According to the poly boss, the Fund is responsible for the massive infrastructural revolution in Nigeria’s higher institutions. The Rector made this remark last Monday during a media chat with NTA’s Tijjani Yahaya in his office.

Speaking on the contribution of the Fund in the development of his institution, the Rector stated: “The Federal Polytechnic Nekede has benefitted immensely from the Federal Government’s assistance in the education sector through the efforts of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. We have benefitted in the areas of physical infrastructure, training of staff and research development, among others.”

The Rector further announced that through the TETFund intervention, his administration had been able to sponsor over seventy eight (78) lecturers for Masters and Doctoral degree programmes in universities within and outside Nigeria. He also stated that the leading role his institution had played in research advancement was owed to the commitment of TETFund.

The poly chief cited the expansive infrastructural facilities in the institution which are fully furnished to accommodate the growing number of staff and students, as further instances of the glowing deeds of TETFund. The smart Rector also noted that Federal Polytechnic Nekede has been chosen by TETFund as Centre of Excellence on ICT.

Accordingly, the poly boss announced that a new ICT infrastructure was being set up round the campus in preparation to the realities of the institution’s new status.

It will be recalled that an ambitious Smart Campus Project of the Rector, Engr. Dr. M.C. Arimanwa, brought an ICT revolution that instigated a paradigm shift in the operations of the frontline Polytechnic.

On the institution’s recent stride in automobile production, the action Rector posited: “I am happy our institution keyed into the production of cars that will enhance a greener environment.

"Since we produced the electric car, our institution has received a lot of attention from institutions and corporate bodies. So many news agencies have also visited to see the vehicle and have a word with the officials of the institution.

"In fact, only last week, our institution played host to a German news agency, whose correspondent came to see the electric vehicle. I was also appointed by the federal government into a committee on the establishment of electric vehicles in Nigeria. Indeed, it is our view that the electric vehicle is the way to go for a safer ecosystem.”

Meanwhile, the smart Rector has revealed that his bold exploits in utilizing the TETFund research grants earned him an award last December as the best head of an institution in the utilization of TETFund grant.

He equally stated that owing to his sterling records, he had in three different occasions won an award as best polytechnic Rector, among a myriad of other awards and Fellowships.

Politics / Hon. Nyema Worukwo Obeys Party Directive, Declares Support For Ezems. by Justiceori2019(m): 6:33pm On May 13, 2022
Full Speech By Hon. Nyema Worukwo As He Obeys Party Directive, Declares Support for Ezemonye Ezekiel.

Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen.

May I seize this opportunity to thank my beloved supporters and our leader the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi the Honourable Minister of transportation for providing leadership and direction when one was needed. I reaffirm my unalloyed loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State and Nigeria in general.

I feel encouraged seeing party members in Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency and across the State devote their time to the affairs of the party and in championing the Advancement of our common glory.

Undoubtedly, I have followed closely and made sacrifices towards the development and success of our great party in my LGA in particular and the State in general. During this period, I have observed the setbacks experienced by my constituency, which necessitated my aspiration to vie for the position of Member representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The Green Chamber is not a place for fat cats with loads of vested interests. It is a sacred temple where our collective dreams for the development of our people and constituency are given impetus. My policy and bills direction would have rested on eight pillars: Agricultural Development, Education, Healthcare, Poverty Alleviation, Entrepreneurial Development, Sports and Entertainment, Social Security, Youth and Women Inclusion in governance.

However, recall that our party, over the years, has suffered a lot of setbacks as a result of supremacy battles, betrayal, rancour, and acrimony. These should not be and as my love for the party is paramount and non-negotiable, my ambition will rather be the antidote to the bleak situation in our party than generate disunity.

With these in mind, I call on my supporters to respect the decision of the leadership of the party on whoever flies the Party’s flag in next year’s election. Members must also endeavour to respect each other for the smooth running of the party. As a people of one political family that believe in the same ideology, we must ensure that all hands must be on deck to build a State of our dreams.

Therefore, my dear people, after several consultations and strategic plans to pursue my ambition, respected leaders along the line prevailed on me to accept the decision of the leadership on the RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL and as such, the ball has fallen on the feet of my elder brother, Hon. Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi, as the consensus candidate for Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency.

Hon. Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi and I met in Abuja. He has offered me his hand of fellowship. We also had some fruitful deliberations on how to ensure the success of our great party in the forthcoming elections. Thus, on behalf of myself and my supporters, we are open and willing to work with him. As we do that, I will suggest that my eight-point policy and bills direction be given paramount concern as they are for the interest of our people.

Dear family, friends, well wishers and supporters, my ambition was essentially informed by the dedication to ensuring that the people’s welfare remains paramount. With that in mind, I have accepted wholeheartedly to drop my ambition and to join hands with other party faithfuls to work assiduously for the success of our dear party in the 2023 elections.

Long live APC!
Long live Rivers State!!,
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

Nairaland / General / Cibn Bankers Hall Commissioned In Federal Polytechnic Nekede In Grand Style by Justiceori2019(m): 8:38pm On May 05, 2022
OVATION CIBN BANKERS HALL IS COMMISSIONED IN FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE IN GRAND STYLE

History was today recorded in Federal Polytechnic Nekede amid ovations and fanfare as the CIBN Bankers Hall was commissioned. The exquisite ultramodern edifice is a legacy project bequeathed to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

The state-of-the-art edifice is one of the six pilot projects across the six geo-political zones undertaken by the Institute. The Federal Polytechnic Nekede was chosen based on its sterling record as the best-performing tertiary institution in the CIBN linkage programme in the Southeast zone.

The smart, ultramodern edifice which serves as a lecture theatre, demonstration class and multipurpose centre was commissioned by the Executive Governor of Imo State, Sen Hope Uzodinma, who was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof Placid Njoku.

While performing the commissioning ceremony, the Deputy Governor expressed joy at the kind and thoughtful gesture of the CIBN leadership to build legacy projects across the nation aimed at boosting educational enterprise. He described the project as a legacy because it would stand the test of time in adding value to education in the polytechnic.

The former university don and administrator further expressed optimism that the legacy project would enable students of Banking and Finance of the Polytechnic become super bankers in future as the they gear up to leverage on the facility provided by the CIBN. Finally, he urged the Management of the Polytechnic to sustain the tempo of entrepreneurial education which would make graduating students enterprising enough to stand on their own after graduation, rather than seeking elusive white collar jobs.

In his speech at the event, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Michael C. Arimanwa FNSE, HCIB, lauded the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria for its kind gesture in building a legacy project Polytechnic. While tracing the history of the institution’s Linkage progamme with the CIBN to 2015, the Rector stated that his administration has deliberately sustained the collaboration to give room to the students of Banking and Finance to leverage on the opportunities so provided by the Linkage to become chartered bankers.

Further, the Poly Chief hinted that in 2020 the Federal Polytechnci Nekeke was rated the best Linkage institution in the Southeast. The Rector described the CIBN as an organization that has shown uncommon commitment to the advancement of the Banking and Finance education in Nigeria, adding that the donation of the Bankers Hall is a gesture that is noble because it is goaded towards uplifting educational standards. Remarkably, the Rector pledged the commitment of the Polytechnic towards the maintenance of the edifice for the sake of posterity.

In his remarks, the President/Chairman of the CIBN Council, Dr. Bayo Olugbemi congratulated the Federal Polytechnic Nekede for emerging the best Linkage institution in the Southeast zone, an accomplishment which he said made the institution a beneficiary of the legacy project. He recalled that the Linkage agreement signed with the Polytechnic on September 16, 2015 has today produced a laudable result that would last though ages, describing the legacy project as a dream come true. He further stated that the project is a modest contribution of the Institute to the development of Banking and Finance in Nigeria, while challenging other corporate organizations to synergize with the government in revamping the educational system.

He lauded the Rector, Engr. Dr M.C. Arimanwa on his numerous achievements in scholarship, digital technology and inventions. Further, he praised the Rector for his “impactful local and international collaborations, and many others too numerous to mention.”

Meanwhile, the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Institute Dr Seye Awojobi, in his remarks, described the Linkage with the Federal Polytechnic as “a rewarding and fruitful relationship,” as according to him, “the Polytechnic has consistently driven the Linkage agreement, encouraging students not only in the Banking and Finance Department, but other Social Sciences to register as members of the Institute and ultimately, write the professional banking examinations.” This commitment according to the CIBN scribe earned the Polytechnic the enviable position of best Linkage institution in the Southeast geo-political zone, and ultimately the beneficiary of the legacy project.

Dr Awojobi further poured encomiums on the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr Dr M.C. Arimanwa for his pragmatic and purposeful leadership in the institution which has earned it the status of a pace-setter among Nigerian Polytechnics, having been rated best-performing Polytechnic in Nigeria by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the most-sought-after Polytechnic in Nigeria.

Earlier, the acting Chairman of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Sqd. Leader Chima Idika Chima (Rtd), applauded the CIBN for bequeathing an exquisite edifice to the institution while thanking the governor for gracing the event through his deputy. He described the Rector as capable and efficient in the management of the Polytechnic which according to him has noble reputation in Nigeria.

In his goodwill message, the Representative of the Ministry of Education, Mr Ayowele Bode, described education as the best legacy, a reason why the ministry had come to identify with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in its quest to uplift the quality of education in Nigeria, adding that other corporate organizations should emulate the efforts of CIBN in the education sector.

Meanwhile, encomiums have been poured on the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. M.C. Arimanwa FNSE for his uncommon dedication to the Linkage programme with the CIBN which has produced an ultra-modern Bankers Hall that is tastefully furnished and equipped.

According to the immediate past Rector of the institution, Prof C.U. Njoku, who was represented by Dr. Anthonia Nwosu, the Rector deserves commendation for sustaining the Linkage programme which she had signed in 2015. For the Dean, School of Business and Management Technology (SBMT), Dr. Lilian Esiagu, the Rector deserves commendation because he “has engendered monumental and ambitious infrastructural and technological transformations in the Polytechnic” with his “multi-dimensional collaborations” that have “given the Polytechnic a global visibility.”

For the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs E.C. Anuna, who gave the vote of thanks at the epochal event, the Rector is a smart and pragmatic leader whose leadership has attracted great projects and goodwill to the Polytechnic.

Dignitaries at the event cut across all strata of the society just as the Polytechnic community came out en masse to savour the euphoria of the ceremony. There was also the Ohafia War Dance on ground to entertain guests at the occasion.

Good one. God CIBN and Nekede
Education / Chartered Institute Of Bankers Of Nigeria Hall To Be Commissioned In Nekede by Justiceori2019(m): 6:46am On May 02, 2022
Federal Polytechnic Nekede bubbles as CIBN Bankers Hall is commissioned.

It will be a ceremony of colours and funfare this Thursday, May 5, 2022 as the Federal Polytechnic Nekede rolls out the drums to host dignitaries storming the institution for the commissioning of an ultramodern Bankers Hall donated to her by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

The 160-capacity edifice which is tastefully furnished and equipped by the Institute will serve as a lecture theatre, demonstration class and conference hall for the Department of Banking and Finance of the Polytechnic. It will also function as one of the multi-purpose centres of the institution.

According to the pragmatic Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa, “The CIBN ultramodern Bankers Hall is a legacy project which the Institute donated to our Polytechnic based on our track-record of performance in both the linkage agreement signed with them and as an institution. We have always tried to distinguish ourselves as an educational institution, a reason the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) rated us the best-forming Polytechnic in Nigeria while the Joint Matriculation Board (JAMB) rated us the most-sought-after Polytechnic in Nigeria. I am very happy with the CIBN project sited in our institution as it is indeed one of the six built across the six geo-political formations of the country. U arguably, the project will further spur us to action.”

Leading the team of CIBN to the event are the President and Chairman of the CIBN Council, Dr. Bayo Olugbemi, and its Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Dr Seyi Awojobi.

Expected at the epoch-making event are the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Dist. Sen Hope Uzodinma, who is the Special Guest of Honour, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (Ahaejiagamba Ndi-Igbo), State Controller, Central Bank of Nigeria, Sen. Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Sen. Frank Ibezim, Hon. Ikenna Elezianya, Hon. Uju Chima Kingsley, Hon. Chike Okafor, Prof C.U. Njoku and a host of others. The edifice is symbolic as it is the first lecture theatre to have been donated to the Polytechnic by a corporate organization.

The donation of this phenomenal edifice would not have been possible without the inspiring and purposeful leadership of the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa. It was the Rector who thoughtfully sustained the Linkage with the CIBN as initiated by his predecessor, Prof C.U. Njoku.

Ever since he assumed office as the 8th substantive Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr Michael Arimanwa, fondly called the digital/smart Rector, has not relented in building and sustaining viable linkages and collaborations with relevant local and international organizations.

For the records, the Polytechnic under the dynamic administration of Dr Arimanwa has built and sustained partnerships with Zinox Computers, Lofty Farms (Lome, Togo) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). Others include Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Leventis Foundation, V.N. Karazin Kharkic National University and Lviv University of Business and Law, Ukraine and of course, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), among others. The collaborations, according to the Rector, are geared towards strengthening institutional framework and promoting academic excellence in the foremost Polytechnic.

The inauguration of the Bankers Hall this Thursday at the Polytechnic is yet another significant milestone of the administration of Engr. Dr M.C. Arimanwa, who only last year received an excellence award from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for being the only head of a tertiary institution in Nigeria that substantially utilized research funds allocated to his institution. Shortly after, he was given an award as Public Servant of the Year by the Nigerian Union of Journalists. He has also been given awards as best Rector in two different occasions.

Only recently, Dr Arimanwa was enlisted by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a technical member in a committee for the development of electric vehicles in Nigeria. In less than four years as Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Engr. Dr Michael Arimanwa has engendered a most ambitious infrastructural and technological transformation in the Polytechnic which only time will define.

Under him, the Polytechnic now boasts of beautiful access roads, new lecture complexes, well-equipped laboratories and workshops, expanded curricular, a refurbished medical centre, a revamped library system, an integrated staff development plan, a resuscitated Polytechnic Radio station, new inventions, a clean environment and a rejuvenated microfinance bank.

The number of schools and departments have substantially increased under his inspiring leadership. The Polytechnic under Dr Arimanwa has never failed any accreditation exercise, instead more programmes have been successfully introduced. The Rector has completely digitized operations in the Polytechnic, thereby maximizing time and increasing productivity.

The success of the Rector’s digital revolution made the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to designate the Polytechnic as a Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Only recently, the Federal Polytechnic shocked the world with the invention of an electric vehicle, a super foundry and a spy jet, thus making the institution a centre of attraction. What may however stand as an eternal legacy for Engr. Dr M.C. Arimanwa is the huge investment he has made in human capital development.

Since the inception of the Polytechnic in 1978, he stands as the only Rector that has conducted the largest staff recruitment, a feat which has given hope to so many families in Imo State and beyond. The CIBN Bankers Hall to be commissioned this Thursday at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede is among the six pilot edifices undertaken by the Institute in the six geo-political zones of the country.

The Polytechnic was chosen among all the higher institutions in the Southeast for its proven record of excellence and consistency in all CIBN’s activities. Remarkably, the Rector has made these twin virtues a mantra in his drive to further make the Polytechnic gain global visibility.

Therefore, as all roads lead to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede this Thursday for the inauguration of the CIBN edifice, it is our prayer that God will continue to bless the institution to attain even greater heights.

Importantly, may the linkage between the Polytechnic and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria continue to produce better results.

Signed:
Dr U.O. Iwuji

Politics / Nigeria, China Population; What Nigeria Should Do. by Justiceori2019(m): 1:59pm On Jun 01, 2021
CHINA vs. NIGERIA POPULATION
......... What Nigeria Should Do.

China has scrapped the Law banning Parents to have only 2 children approving couples to bear 3 Children.
China as one of the Wealthiest Nation on the planet with a suitable Economy has a billion+ population and can mange the population very well even though it gets to 2 billion.

Here in Nigeria our population of 200 million+ is ok but the problem is the Government hasn't done enough to manage our Population and our Economy is not friendly. With this situation amidst our growing Population rate it won't help us as a Nation by 2030 were our Population is projected to increase to 263 million.
Parents should be mindful of the obvious fact that they take care of their crowds in the midst of Government negligence.

I Advise we start now to control our child bearing rate.
Patents should bear children as they can control, feed, carter and train.

As a Nation, for us not to suffer in the nearest future i opine that Government should Enforce a Child Bearing Policy as a properly coordinated Child Bearing Policy will help to reduce out of school children, take minors off the roads and free the roads from the traffic caused by underaged hawkers.
