I recommend you go to the USA Visit Visa Thread. You'll see lots of comments that address your questions. You can also ask questions too on the thread.

Besides visiting your girlfriend in the States, there are other options which are much easier I think.

One option is for her to visit you here in Nigeria. Another option is for you both to meet somewhere else where you can easily get a visa....Dubai, Ghana, South Africa, etc.

thanks for the answer, how much would I need to show for self sponsor, and or if the other party is sponsoring will I need to show bank statement too and how much will be appropriate.

and do I also need an invitation letter?
