As the pandemic coronavirus move from one continent to the next, we seem to have been so far lucky. Some theories have been flying around as to why Africa may not feel the impact as others. While some hinge their theory on science, others go spiritual, pointing to our religious faith and acts.

The coming weeks would define our fate, but one thing is clear. As helpless as we appear to be, due to our shortcomings in health infrastructure, governance and our public display of religion with few underlining righteousness; the genuine faith of the few may bring down His banner of love over us, which we so much desire at this point.

I am not a scientist, so I don't know about this theory about hot weather not favorable to the virus and others alike. I do however, believe that our saving grace will come from the fact that we believe there is a God who owns and controls the universe and He is able to protect His people. This is the faith which have brought notable miracles among those with genuine repentance. It may be difficult to explain how it works, but not difficult in seeing it happen day after day. The same faith have been protecting many of us from the many dangers and hazards which abound in this nation and will still save us from this deadly and strange disease.

You can still join these few but mighty army of those who truly believe in Christ and try to live His righteousness day by day. Together, we keep trusting the Lord; we keep doing his will; we keep believing in His protecting and healing Hands. And whatever the weeks coming would bring, we will be rest assured that His banner of love is over us and He controls the entire happenings in this universe whether physical, spiritual or biological.

And if by chance the devil perpetuate his worst, be assured God is with you. You need not fear for the earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof. Psalm 24

You need faith to get a miracle, but you don't need anything to witness magic from a magician.

Faith without works is dead, says the Bible. You therefore need faith in God, having done your own part to obtain your miracle.

Why then do you want to pass exam without the pain of studying?
Why do you pray for great riches and do not want to pass the rudiments of hard-work?
Why do you want to see a prosperous nation with no willingness to keep her simple laws and order?
You want to be baptized in the Holy Ghost when you are an expert in keeping malice?

Good people, check very well. You may just be wishing for magic not miracle. God specializes in miracles, not magic.

He was known and loved by many in the church for his dedication and prayerfulness, but something was missing in his life. Those that tried to help in the past got tired, wondering why he rejected their offers. They had on various occasions informed him of a vacancy in their companies and even got him an interview slot with the HR. The few he finally attended and did well, he turned down the offers. When he finally opened up to a close confidant, he claimed that he had an agreement with God that he will get a job in an oil company with fat salary. He explained that the offers he got were between fifty to hundred thousand naira pay and that is why he turned them down. It is now more than two years and he seemed to be getting impatient with God. He now feels depressed because no one in the church ask him about his unemployment challenge as before.

She yielded to family and friends’ influence and chose the wrong but rich spouse, when in all her prayers for the will of God in marriage, her heart leaned towards the young man who was still a starter with not much wealth to display. Now that she tastes the bitter pill of wrong choice, same people are advising her that prayer solves all problems.

It is a wonder how some believers spend nights in vigil praying but reject opportunities that come with little beginnings. It is time we stop wasting our time praying over one thing and following it up with contradictory action. God answers prayers but cannot be fooled. Do the right thing, follow it up with the right prayer, and you will definitely touch the heart of God. Never despise the day of little beginning. Zechariah 4:10

Just within this period, you have trekked like never before. Under the blazing sun and the dusty road, you kept walking, hoping your destination was a stone throw. Your heart palpitated, your breath unsteady, your head hot from heat of the sun, your armpits soaked with sweat, your legs painful and your shoes covered in dust. You thirsted for chilled water but there was none around. Cars with the driver as the only passenger passed by. You wished one would stop to pick you, but none did. No one cared. You felt dejected and bitter about everything around. When you finally got to the long awaited bus-stop, there were many like you waiting for the few buses. You managed to squeeze yourself into one, but you were forced to pay more than the normal fare. You had desired to buy cold water along the way, but you have to endure because your budget for the day was already cut short.

And you young man, you just lost your little means of livelihood. Now, you are staying at home and thinking what the future holds. And if you have family, you have been wondering how you would manage to put food on the table for your kids. All through the week. you have been unhappy, brainstorming how to find another job.

With the recent ban on okada and keke in many areas of Lagos, many have found themselves in an unplanned situation. Now is the time to find a workaround solution, in a sustainable path. Do not waste too much time blaming yourself or the government. You just need to find a way out, in a legitimate way. This is not the end of life yet, but a beginning to another chapter. You have worked hard in the past, no doubt. This is a call to work hard again. Re-phrasing Jack Ma:

‘Today is hard, tomorrow may be worse, but the day after tomorrow, there will be sunshine’

Never yield to join ungodly ways to make ends meet. Do not be bitter with anyone’s decision if it affects you. Handle what is within your power and leave the rest to God. It will surely come out well if you remain strong and act right.

‘Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.’ Proverbs 6:6

Lets be careful of knowledge. The right knowledge is the one that brings one to Christ and his sins washed away in His blood and he continues to live in His righteousness.

Knowledge of the scripture is good but when it does not achieve the above, it is no more useful. Like what Paul said:

"Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." 2 Timothy 3:7

Many are unaware that sometimes we are the architect of our problems. We hold some culture, belief and attitude dear to us, unknowingly to our hurt.

Religion has finally become part of our culture. Every day, more places of worship are being erected. Everyone prays and give glory to God, even amidst of unrighteousness. Such culture of religion without righteousness is heading for doom. God cannot be deceived!

In spite of the noise of how great we know God more than other nations, faithfulness has suddenly disappeared. People are insincere and rarely honour their word. From true worship to business relationship, only very few can be trusted. A generation that exalts wealth more than integrity is filled with blind men and women.

God has certainly left a society that looks forward to wealth without sweat, miracle without holiness, showering praises and prayer on fat offering givers, justifying their dubious source of wealth.

It shall not be well with hypocrites, claiming they know God, but their life speaks the opposite. Their woes are self-made. You can be different by not only knowing God but living the life that glorify Him.

Though he does not know it, but his desires are selfish. If his thoughts are displayed on a big screen, you will marvel at the evils therein. He is proud of his temperament, always trying to take advantage of others. He tries to stop it but the bad habits continue to dominate him. In his desire to fulfill his dreams, wealth, pleasure and power are now his pursuit.

He bears the number 6. His master bears same number but tripled. Want to know him? Don’t look round but look inward. Look into your mirror and you will see him looking at you. 6 is the number of man fallen off the grace of God!

All hope is not lost. The best in him, which has been in chain, can still be freed to shine. By mere cleansing with water and blood, the traits of number 6 will forever be wiped away. Then will we see his number 5, beautiful, pure, selfless and adorned with grace.

Let the world see your number 5. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who cleanses whiter than snow, will do the job. It is all about establishing relationship with Him. Do it now, do not postpone.

The trap of focusing more on the administration and physical structures of the church whilst neglecting the spiritual and physical needs of the members is catching more churches than one can imagine. This is gradually creeping in even among most reserved and respected bible-based churches. The growing numbers of members are making the administration complex, church leaders and founders are getting out of touch with the members, especially the indigent ones.

Economic situation nowadays is not getting better. Things are getting tougher. The fact is that people are getting poorer. It is expected that the church should look more inward at this time.

Some projects are of great necessity but we should remember that a church is not a building but coming together of believers. ‘…greet the church that is in their house.’ Paul wrote. The church in this case was inside someone’s house.

Do we actually need to invest very huge sums of money to meet the necessity of bringing our thousands of members together under one roof to worship? What about the financial investment involved in building a school, because we want to meet the good intention of providing our children with strong Christian foundation?

Jesus Christ ministry was focused on the people – bringing salvation to the lost, healing the sick, delivering the oppressed. The apostles also had that urgency to take care of the needs of the poor, widows and the needy, especially during the time of economic difficulty in Jerusalem.

Church leaders and founders should watch out and consider it not complex but possible to care and meet the needs of the members. For with God all things are possible. What does it profits us at the end, if the school we build, ends up out of the reach of the children of the common church member.

In my opinion, building more and more structures accumulates properties and wealth, attracting wolves into the church. It is a matter of time, probably after the passing away of the sincere church leader/founder, the wolves may succeed in kicking out the sheep, taking control of the church – with interest in the properties and wealth.

Let us stop giving the devil a chance. ‘Feed my sheep’, is Christ’s command. ‘Come and let us build,’ was Nehemiah call. Which one do we follow?

It is a thing to marvel that some Christians believe that Prayer alone can do all things. Where is Good Work? They believe that by continuous prayer and fasting, God will elevate them from poverty to prosperity.

They do not want to wake up early to look for work to do. They do not want to take time to learn a skill. They hope for a mouth-watering pay job, while rejecting small offers. All they know how to do is to pray, pray, fast and pray. They pray at home, they pray in the church, they attend prayer programmes, they pray in the mountains…

Some hang on to prophecy of a man of God for the month, believing God will bring it to pass in their lives. From one month to another, shuttling from one prophecy to another; they do nothing else, only waiting for the promise to be fulfilled.

‘O foolish Galatians’, when will you learn? Who creates the job? Who learns the skill? If everyone behaves like you; who creates the goods and services? Who employs the other?

Bezaleel was skilled and that’s why God called him for the task. Exodus 35:30. Faith without good work is dead, so is prayer without action. Help yourself and help the economy. Rise up from those knees and go and do something, no matter how small.

Pray as if everything depends on prayer. Work as if everything depends on work.

We have come to a point in our nation when it is difficult to believe that there are still some good people around. Many think there are no righteousness anymore. They deal with each person with carefulness. Some even deal with you with suspicion, setting up a counter plan, in any case you try to outwit them.

They no longer trust those in the authority. They do not believe the value of the economy as sold by the government. Their mindset is that their employers are taking advantage of them or the other way round - their employees are not giving their best in their work. In relationship, they rarely give all; doubtful of what goes on in the heart of their partner. They have lost faith in religion as well as their leaders and those that flaunt themselves as men of God. It is that bad.

It may amaze you to learn that there are still righteous, faithful, sincere and trustworthy fellows around. As worse as it appears to be, in every human history, there are always a few whose hands are not soiled. ‘I have left for me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.’ This was God’s reply to Elijah when he claimed he was the only righteous man left in his time.

From north to south, east to west, good people abound in this nation. Once in a while, you hear news of a good Nigerian who returned misplaced large sums of money and you wonder. The fact is; such good fellows are in every corner of every community. You just need to find them.

There are still those who are genuinely washed in the blood of the lamb, whose goals and aspiration are up and not down here. Their deeds are righteous, their intentions are pure.

Even in Lagos, we get am for righteous people!

As I woke up this morning, my mind got so engrossed with the cares of the day and concerns for the week. How do I survive with this present economic situation? Family challenges are piling up fast. I did not forget the struggle that I would face on Monday morning. Too many wahala to contend with!

Then I remembered: when I had no job; when I had no family; and the time I was abandoned in the hospital. What about the trials and temptations He saw me through. How did I forget so soon? I started humming songs of praise.

Roll back the curtain of memory now and then
Show me where you got me from, and where I would have been
Remember I’m human and humans forget
So remind me, remind me dear Lord.

Oh my soul, do not (because of the present challenges) forgot the goodness of the Lord in the past. He, who took care of you yesterday, will surely take care of you today and tomorrow.

Such is life! It is full of ups and downs. This day your heart is full of gladness. Moments later, there are enough circumstances to dry up those smiles. Push pull, ups and downs is the variety of life.

No wonder there is no description of an armour for the back in the word of God. In bible days, there are armours – protection for all parts of the body in times of war, but none for the back. Soldiers are not expected to turn back. Like a soldier, you are to keep fighting and keep moving. At the end of the tunnel there will always be a shining light.

In economic aspect, you must continuously produce goods and services to earn you the cash flow enough to meet the needs of your family and be afloat in your finances.

In the spiritual, you must keep on fighting the fight of faith, maintaining the narrow path to eternal life while striving with self, satan and the system of the world.

A disciplined and healthy lifestyle will earn good health. There is always something to fight for.

You must keep keeping on. There will always be challenges and enemies within and without. That’s why it is the world. The day you are through with all challenges is the day you pass on to the other side of life.

When you are pushed by the troubles of life, pull yourself back. When you are pulled by challenges, push them away and regain your stamina.

Push pull, and life goes on.

Yesterday, your mouth was full of praises. You kept on recalling all the good things He did for you. Some were like miracle. You had prepared for the worst. It was never going to be better. Then contrary, the unexpected happened. God averted the danger. You gave all glory to Him, promising to remain grateful.

Then, you wake up this morning sad, totally forgetting the joys of yesterday. Your heart is full of heaviness. Consolations from friends and relatives would not do. Again, you are scared and fearful that the end is near.

Such is the ups and downs of life. Some people wonder the role of God in such a world that is going haywire. Evils are spinning out of control, with no remedy in view. They feel that, either God does not exist or He does not care; or probably incapable of dealing with the situation. Either way, you are far from the truth.

Ever wondered how He suspended the cloud in the sky? And all the wonders of this world? Even you, an intelligent creature, came out of His hand and came alive out of His breath. And the likes of greater minds keeps discovering more planets, widening the horizon of His creation

If He created the universe only by mere words, no situation can overwhelm Him. Good or bad, He knows better. A creature does not know more than its creator. Situations come and go but He is a master of them all.

He is beautiful for situation! Psalm 48:2

Sometimes in life, you are fed up with a habit or way of life. You desire a new and better life. Then, you decide to say bye to that old way, vowing never to go back to them.

You do all you can. You restrain yourself. You change your routine. You resist the temptations. You hope to get your desired change. Unfortunately, after all the effort, you are not able to free yourself.

Too hard, it appears you are fighting a force stronger than you. You feel week, and sometimes succumb to those desires. You feel the power to overcome is not within you. You see yourself sliding back to those things you rejected. If only I will receive a greater power, you groan in despair.
Don’t give up yet. The power to overcome is within reach. But you shall receive dynamo ‘power’, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you. Acts 1:8

He knows exactly the temptations and trials you are contending with. He did not intend to leave you alone, a prey or a pawn to the forces and evils of life. The Holy Ghost is here and within reach to help. Give Him your attention today.

Wondering what this talk about freedom is all about? Amidst the shouts, you still feel enslaved. Deep down in your heart, you can feel those things that hold you hostage: the economy, the cares of life, family responsibilities, life expectations, desires not met, inability to follow your dreams – too many of them to mention.

At work, you feel like a porn. They push you here and there, all for the sake of the monthly stipend. You do not have a say of your own. All they care is for you to execute it, without asking questions. Talking about starting something on your own; the challenges ahead appears colossal.
Even at home, you rarely decide on your own. There is always someone to consider. You have to sacrifice for the sake of the family. If not, you are seen as uncaring, disobedient.

You cannot even contribute to the changing of the fortune of the nation. In sincerity, you are ready to contribute the little you can, but they don’t want you. They feel you are not part of the system. Yet, their wrong decisions still affects everyone. All you are left with is to talk. Talk that changes little.

In the larger world, you sit and watch how some powerful nations decides the fate of others. You wonder in amazement what you can do to change the tide. Nothing. You are left to sit down and watch and swallow the brunt of their manipulation. You feel helpless.

How can your freedom be in the hand of another man? Freedom should be personal and not a group thing. Even if a hero emerges to bring the desired change, we soon find ourselves entangled with another burden.

Total freedom is a personal thing. In Christ, freedom is privatized. He has given it out. It is now left for you to take it. It is in your hand, if you want to be free. Remember, the good things of life are free!

There were times that you set your mind to achieve something. You perfected your plan. You put in all necessary resources. You put in time, effort and probably money. All was set. You were sure it would work. You had already started dreaming of success. Suddenly something happened. The table is turned. You could not believe it. Your dream is shattered. It did not work as planned. Why? Why? You cried.

It was not your fault. You did everything right. You just did not know what happened and why it did not work out. Others did same, even putting less effort, and it worked for them.

Some call it luck. They said you were not lucky. They were more lucky than you. But…wait. Don’t you think it is more than that?
Could it be that God is trying to get your attention? That disappointment might be a way He is trying to draw you to Him. Why not get closer to Him and find out?

Is your purpose in life not bigger and better than that dream? Are you not trying to be something lesser than what He created you for? If your dream had worked, you may have ended up being successful in your own standard, whereas He has bigger plans for you.
I think we should count it a privilege when our desires did not work, but on the other hand, it brought us closer to our maker. Greater things await you, if you believe so.

Some have talked about it. Others sang it. And it remains true. Your life without Christ is shattered dreams. It might seem to be working right now, but never will you find that full satisfaction, except in Christ.

@ Yeligray. I guess you mean diminishing glory of the latter days. Any prayer or worship meant to attract attention will surely tend to diminishing glory.

I do not know where you live, but if you happen to live in one of these cities. If by chance you stay in that kind of neighbourhood, you will understand. And if you reside beside such a church location, you may be a witness.

If you are not a heavy sleeper on those nights of vigil, you will likely be subjected to follow through, waking and sleeping at a permissible interval. What of Sundays? Your imagination may not match the amount of sound coming out of those speakers. Not sure if they were meant for the congregation or those in the neighbourhood who happen to be at home on a Sunday morning.

Prayer and worship are to God alone. When it is directed to the attention of man, then something is wrong. When someone or a congregation is intentionally broadcasting to the neighbourhood, his/their deep communication with God, then it is no longer achieving the original intention. Such gyration will likely not attract genuine seekers of God. To seek God, we must seek Him in truth and in spirit.

That was not the faith of the apostles and saints gone by. In wisdom, they moved from one community to the other preaching and seeking souls to be saved. They were bold, but not brash. They were humble, but not intimidated. They sowed the seed of the gospel in the most sober and wise way. Even when their enemies stirred the people up against them, they were willing to lay down their life for the sake of Christ. No wonder great conviction came upon many and some were saved.

As we go to the Lord in prayer, praise and worship, it should be offered to His glorious name. When it is done in the flesh, it appeals to the mind and not the spirit. And such prayer and worship fades easily as it appears. It hardly bring a soul to the kingdom of God.

Today, let us be true in our worship and prayer for God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24

In most cases, the day a woman discovered that she had taken in, she is usually overwhelmed with happiness. Although she is aware there are tough days, weeks and month ahead, her expectation is always on the 9th month.

She begins to count the date. The doctor giving an estimate of the much awaited day of joy, the day after the pain.

‘Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.’

So she carries the pregnancy, enduring the pain, looking forward to the gain of the day. And finally when it is over, it turns to a day of celebration. The pains are forgotten. The cry and smile of the new-born baby is enough to cover for whatever it took in the last 9 months. Such is the month of September, the 9th month of the year.

The Lord has promised. ‘Remember not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing.’

In this 9th month, He can give you abundance even in the midst of recession. He said, ‘I will even make a way in the wilderness.’

In this 9th month, He can restore your health. His promise: ‘I will even make rivers in the desert.’

Joy and peace is of mind can be yours even in this 9th month.

Your months of weeping are over! This is the 9th month that He has set aside for your celebration. The Lord can remember you this September to remember.

You can make these yours by being counted His son.

At a time in my childhood, I became conscious of things around me. I noticed that I have hand, leg, mouth and leg. In my early school days, the teacher would instruct us to point at our eyes, nose, mouth and others. These were part of my body, but I didn’t know how I got them. But, I knew I came to life with them, giving to me free of charge by the Creator.

The air I breathe is free of charge. The love from my parents were also free. I did not deposit any money to my loved ones to take care of me. They fed me free of charge.

Growing up, I have come to realize that the things that matters in life are free. Do you pay to sleep? You do not need to pay to wake up in the morning. The sun rises and shines freely to everyone. The rain from the sky is free. You cannot buy love. Enduring peace is gotten free. I now know that the things that lasts in life are free. The good things of life are indeed free.

I also discovered in the course of life that despite these free bounties, I sometimes offend others even those that gave these free gifts and care. Sometimes I offend my loved ones. Many a times I have offended even my Creator.

How then do I make amend? How do I get their forgiveness? Do I now need to pay?

I don’t think so! I do not need to pay my way back to the heart of those I offended. I do not need to pay to get back the love of my Creator. All I needed is a genuine remorse of my wrongdoing. Then I will approach my maker and ask Him to forgive me and take me back the way we were when I was a little child. I am very sure that if I do this, He will surely draw me to His bosom. He will surely forgive and blot out all my wrongdoings.

Never neglect those things you get free. They are the ones that last. Those things that we pay do not last for long. The forgiveness of God is as free as His gifts. It is free to be His son. It is also free for Him to write your name in His book. That book contains the names of those who are going to be with Him when life on earth is over. Register your name today. It is free of charge.

Amidst the up and down of life, there is always this hope for the better. Such hope is usually set on something. It may be a cause or an individual, that will take away the sorrows and set things right.

Some are hoping for a new government. Every four or eight years, if within their power, they will vote out the existing leader and put their hope on a new one. Looking forward to a turnaround of things and a better life, they believe they have made the right choice.

Another set of people put their trust in religion. More like a soul search that would have brought the desired result, but in many cases twisted to the pacifying of the leader. They assume they are pleasing God by following such teachings of man. Some go the extra mile in the pursuit of the cause laid down by these preachers.

Others heap their hope on certain individuals whom they look upon. Whether their dream spouse, a rich uncle or a friend, they believe this individual will intervene in their plight and rescue them. They try all in their power to get closer to this person.

No matter which way, every living soul needs hope to survive. Whether they are yearning for another brother, Moses, who will lead them pass the Red Sea, or hoping on system and cause that will alleviate their condition, or hoping on some teachings of religious; the reality is that none of these bring the desired expectation and seal it permanent. If ever met, it hangs on one leg, with fear of losing it. If it is not yet met, it ends up in a cycle of deferred hope.

The good news is that the expectation that we are looking for, is already with us. The government we are looking up is already set up. The Moses, we are waiting for, has already come. He is asking us to open our eyes of understanding. He wants to let us know that for more than 2,000 years now, He has been calling on whoever will listen to join the boat of life. The perfect peace we cherish is already with us.

If only you can sincerely open your heart and seek Him, only then will you have the experience. And you will seek no more.
