jacko007: its a great testimony your sharing with us...we are learning from you too, thanks to Nairaland.
My questions is, would 700k excluding itinary be enough for my 2 weeks trip? I don't have a past travel experience . thank you once again. The big factor is the cost of the ticket. With the crazy exchange rate. It can take a lot and change anytime. Aside from that-you can manage everything else-especially if you have people that you can stay with or can show you around. If not hotels are relatively cheap when the standard is considered. |

loluola: Please how is Registered Nurse doing in us I meant their salary per hour and how do i do it if Nigeria Registered Nurse want to work legally over there. Thanks Nurse are like ATM machine here o. Especially Registered Nurses that have first or Masters degree. Some earn as much as $50 per hour. I dont think any RN earns less than $30 per hour. America and much of the West needs a lot of healthcare because people here grow very old before dying and healthcare is important here-so the hospitals and clinics are always filled up -even with people having common headache. If you have a way a to come here-nursing is the way. And any skill like mechanic, carpenter, plumber. Forget all those suit and tie degree (just joking) |

collins011: Bros Jwillng. Is it true that with your visitors visa you can travel from Yankee to Canada? And which city is closer to travel From Yankee? You mean close to Canada? Depends which city you are going to in Canada. I was going to Alberta Province in Canada-so I passed through North Dakota and Minnesota. But these States border Canada: Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. |

fecosequence: does the travel worth that amount? Do you mean if it was worth it spending that amount to travel or if it costs that much? For the first question: yes for me it was more than worth. I have already made my money back many times over. For the second questions-depends on the exchange rate at that time you are buying a ticker, how long you plan to stay, if theres someone to host you and save you extra expenses and other matters. |

Originalsly: Interesting....took time to explain...go into some details to paint a clear picture . Things are all rosy for now... but in time you would come across the thorns. I believe you would still manage very well. The one thing you mentioned that I think readers should really pay attention is that you spent a long time doing research, consulting, planning, making preparations and knowing pretty much what to expect when you arrived there. I am not surprised that you got into exporting stuff.... by far the biggest problem with that kind business is finding a reliable and trustworthy partner here at home and you have found one. Good luck and prosperity... nice pics...keep on posting. Thank you. I know it wont all be rosy. I suffered to get here. I must make it work. |

RedCapChief: Congrats @op, The West can be a wonderful place if you focus on making a better life for yourself. You will never regret it. However, it can also be a terrible place if you derail. Work hard. Stay focused on your long-term goals Don't do drugs or gangs. Avoid all the tempting women. Keep your sword in the sheath.
Thank you. Thank you. I am staying focused. Women? Hmmm. That one na long story bros! |

fecosequence: like how much did it cost you to mk such travel? If I included all my attempts and losses-it was a lot. I made many mistakes at first. Paid almost 400k to someone who claimed he could help me get a visa. Thats a long story anyway. But with my successful attempt-I spent over 500k including ticket, hotel for my stay, and some spending monet. What helped me was a deal I had with a Nairalander in the US-in importing some items. |

Theophinio: The guys government pays weekly are they citizens Not only citizens. Even refugees ( I have seen many from Somalia) and green card holders. But is mostly citizens that are that spoilt and refuse to work. There are 2 classes of people getting such payment that I have observed: the lazy ones-mostly their citizens and people who are not lazy, but just lost their jobs. When you loose your job government pays you something until you get another job. An old school mate I know here lived on such until he finished from school and got a job. |

Ajusshi: Bro, pls do you have an estimate of what it will cost to move a family of 3 to the US?
Thanks in advance. Depends on how you do it. Are you doing it through an agent or by yourself. If by yourself: you consider Visa, Plane Tickets, local cost in Nigeria to and from the embassy (especially if you live far from Lagos and Abuja). And how you plan to settle in America: do you already have people that can house you for the first 6 months to 1 year. Even with that kind of arrangement-as a responsible person-you should enter with some money-so that you dont burden your host. You are talking of over 2 million naira when you consider that. Note that I have not moved to America-I am not a permanent resident-I just have extended access with my Via. |

ttmacoy: Very true. Boris Johnson the mayor of London rides a bicycle to city hall and even to 10 Downing Street when he has to go there.
There is a huge difference in mentality which I don't see changing for generations to come. Hopefully after the current recycled crop of leaders leave and a new generation comes in. Definitely it is mentality. Me sef carry some naija mentality here. |

ttmacoy: That depends on the city/area eg NYC and the likes of Chicago don't have many wood houses, but cities like Houston etc do.
I agree the risk of fire a especially those areas prone to hurricane and such. Ok-so houses in NYC and Chicago are not the same as in the mid west? Interesting. One day I ll go to New York. |

Very inconsistent story, and I'm sure s/he is in none of the places s/he listed in the write up. Na wa o! Terrorist and burglar combined bros. Terrorist want to kill themselves. claremont: A very good article, and I recommend that Justwise pushes this to front page. What is written about is applicable in most developed economies. In the UK, some MPs (equivalent of Nigerian Senators) ride bicycles to their offices. In Nigeria, having a big car is a reflection of societal status. You are right bro-our leaders are pretenders. Come see and how they pretend when they come overseas. I saw some women at the airport in Houston-they must have wives of politicians on one of their jamborees. No police security or Mopol-we were all equal. I pay my ticket-you pay your ticket. We need to change that system where getting a car is massive success in Nigeria and those that have oppress those that dont. Why cant a houseboy in Naija have his own car IF he NEEDs it-when maids and cleaners have it here. The salary we get in Nigeria is too low. |

nairacountry: Kudos Jwillin, you may have to update your blog and make it more users- friendly. What of the free report you purportedly wrote?
You were given visit visa but seems you are 'hustling'with it across the mid-west. How easy? (hustling with visit visa) Once again, kudos! Thanks. Im not too good with the web. Still getting training on how to manage a blog. I will do my best. I am finishing the report this week and will send it to as many people as want it free. I will post it on Nairaland too. Bro-that visa cost me money-i have to make the money back! Since I cannot work here-I already planned on some juicy things I could do to make money. All legal o! There was a thread on NL some years back-and I got my ideas from there. I have mainly just bought some cheap items and brought them to Naija first time I came. I was able to make contacts here then -and the relationships have continued. Its all buying here and selling in Naija. |

moneybag100: Hmmmm...you sound like you are just 3 month to 4 months old there and seems like you already know the in and out of America. I dont enough yet...but I know what I need to make the money I need. I have been twice now-but I researched for over two years. I sold property and borrowed money to travel-I could not afford to gamble-no trial and error. I must say I learnt a lot from the Travel section of Nairaland and many kind nairalanders. Some of them have had trial and error for 10 years-it helped me to learn from them. I knew exactly what I needed to do-so that when I first landed -it was straight to business.... |
