[quote author=anonimi post=86250890] Interesting images you have here. Quite true. Reality in the US, don't know about the UK is bank manager is not like Naija, as in manager of a branch. Its not a big man's job here. I know many bank managers, its just a regular job. A union bricklayer makes more than them. 2 Likes 3 Shares |

oilPUSSY: That was one flaw in their broadcast. What he said was that the Sultan Dasuki was not the real Sultan the people wanted and he should be removed and replaced by the "Peoples Choice " Mohammed Macido. Until that was done he said, the core North would be removed from Nigeria. He wanted the core North to meet and implement that change. Since the coup failed, this directive was twisted to say: He hated the North and the North should leave. He did not hate the North; he just wanted justice. The irony was that Abacha would 5 years later remove Dasuki and replace him with Macido leading to widespread jubilation in the North. Whereas when Dasuki was appointed in 1998, there was massive violence and rioting in Sokoto as everyone knew he was imposed by Babangida. These guys were too "openly honest" or maybe they did that thinking Northerners would troop to the streets and jubilate. What they should have done was simply announce the removal of Sultan Dasuki to be replaced immediately by Macido. That may have gotten them a lot of Northern support especially by the poor! There were accusations that Orkar put that in the speech unilaterally without consulting other planners. |
Politics / Gideon Orkar: 29 Years After Nigeria' S Last Military Coup by jwillng: 10:06am On Apr 22, 2019 |
29 years ago today, precisely on Sunday April 22nd 1990- the last military coup in Nigeria's history occurred. It was not only bloody, it was bizarre. It was the first ever coup publicly acknowledged as being funded by a civilian (Great Ogboru) Reports had it that the coup was actually planned for a week later, but some police men had intercepted one of the Peugeot J5 vans specially procured for the coup and found weapons. The ring leaders were Major Gideon Orkar and Lt.Col Nyiam. The coup would have succeeded if not for shoddy planning and execution which is believed to have occurred as a result of the date change. Note the following: 1) President Babangida had already fled Dodan Barracks. Rumour is he was already on board a ship bound for the UK when a junior officer advised him to wait, incase the coup failed. 2) Babangida's ADC was killed in action. What changed things was swift action by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Sanni Abacha. He took control by early afternoon and invaded NTA headquarters on Victoria Island and took it over, making his own broadcast. For the first time in history, Nigerians stood and watched as coupists fought against government soldiers on the streets of Lagos exchanging gunfire. Lagosians can watch anything! The gates of Dodan Barracks were flung open for hours. By 4pm, Abacha had prevailed. Major Gideon Orkar and Lt.Col Nyiam in my opinion were Patriots, but did it the wrong way. 4 Likes

RichYoungNigga: Havnt been everywhere in America-but I have visited at least 10 states. This place is the best in the world o! My research (and I have done a lot of research) showed me that most if not all Americans who are considered poor are poor by choice. And even what is considered poor in America is well to do in 90% of the world. A poor American gets the following: i) Up to $800 or more welfare like food coupons ii) Subsidized housing. I meet a girl who is paying $100 for an apartment that is normally $800. All the government asks of her is to pay her electricity bill and not fight. iii) Almost Free health care . By just going to the emergency room-hospitals must treat anyone and bill later. Bills that they may never pay. iv) 24 hours power supply (that is gold in Nigeria). v) 24 hours pipe borne water. vi) Constant security provided by the best Police Forces in the world. All you have to do is call 911-no need to bribe or beg oga police. Many who are poor choose to remain like that so that they can collect free benefits. If they decide to work-they will loose these benefits. Many of them also keep having children so they can claim benefits. If you have a goal or dream to be wealthy and successful-of course that is not the life one would choose. But for many-there only dream is to become rap stars-not knowing that for every Lil Wayne-there are 20,000 others who are just rapping on the street-no album, no deals, no money for their rap. All the places you have mentioned have more infrastructure and facilities than VGC and Ikoyi (24 Hour light and water), good roads, security. How can that be bad? 44 Likes 3 Shares |

My oga wants to buy 2 houses in this estate and flip it for profit after one year. His target based on information given him should make him up to $30,000 profit each. Big problem now is the dollar scarcity in Nigeria. 2 Likes

Old cars sell for a lot here. This mans car looks like a 1920s car or earlier. Its probably worth over $200,000 for a car that old. I may have to go and find my grand fathers 1950 car back in the village. 2 Likes

Been studying housing structures here for my boss in Lagos. Interesting designs. One thing I noticed at the estates is that sites and services are completed before houses are moved into. It seems in Nigeria-people move into homes a lot when there services like pipe borne water, roads, street lights are not even ready yet. Still wondering at all these wooden houses here. They look very good when completed though. 2 Likes
