Earlier I had to 'hurry' to Abuja for something very important. Considering the hike in flight fares, I reasoned that the cost of a return ticket could take care of some other exigencies, and decided to go by road. About 30km from BN Ceramic Industry in Ajakuta in Kogi, we saw a queue of vehicles parked by a small village and we had to join. We learned that there was a kidnapping operation in front, and while trying to question the intel, we noticed there was no vehicle coming from the opposite direction. About 45 minutes later, we heard a gunshot followed by sporadic shootings and the Locals advised us to take cover as the kidnappers may be fleeing and can shoot on sight. It turned out that an escort Hilux with armed police officers accompanying a Prado was passing and the armed officers were shooting to 'clear' the road. As the Prado and Hilux drove pass our vehicles, the officers made gestures that the road was cleared, as well as drivers of other vehicles that followed from the opposite direction. Less than a Kilometer from where we queued was an empty Sienna with the doors left open, and there was a lifeless body. I already had a panic attack when I heard the gunshots, and up till now, I'm still thinking of the empty Sienna. What if the driver was a father who may never get home to his family? How about the others in the vehicle? Their families will probably wait in anxiety until the bandits call and demand for ransom. Some may make it out, some may not. Probably if the 'big man' in a Prado with escort Hilux wasn't passing, we would have had to wait longer for a patrol team to show up. Or what if the bandits had decided to advance towards us in a middle of nowhere? My beloved country is fast becoming the Somalia we used to hear of, and it is sad that in Nigeria, no one takes responsibility for anything. It is sad that instead if seeking solutions to the devastating insecurity in Kogi, someone like Governor Yahaya Bellow is defacing the entire state with Billboards of his Presidential aspiration. It's sad that in 2023, we may end up voting in another senile dullard. It is sad that we're almost helpless. I'm sad, I'm angry and worried if this is the country my children will come to grow in. |

Healing is a process and it's not spontaneous. As long as the things that plague the young people are not taken care of, calling for healing is just a faux. The young people need jobs. We need a safer environment to thrive. We need an end to police brutality and we need basic digital infrastructure to compete favorably on the global tech scene. ~ Kaandi |

If you keep tabs on News as they break, you'll understand that the days are evil. The world still battles a pandemic as nations and cities are continuously plagued by Natural and Human disasters. Stats of suicide keeps rising and depression is fast becoming a norm. Being a Nigerian at this point in time is not funny. Bandits, kidnapping, cult clashes, road accidents, armed robbery, rape and all the social vices you can think about are escalating, while most of our Political leaders are clueless and have sworn pacts with the demon of administrative failure. Everything looks bleak, just like our National flag swings hopelessly. In the midst of these brouhaha, is this Profound Peace I've found. The one Christ said in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." The future might be uncertain, at 61, Nigeria might seem to be a failed state with no hope for her teeming 200+ million citizens. Our roads might be death traps and our neighborhood might have turned to dens for bandits, but all of these have failed to drain me of that Profound Peace in me. E dey red sometimes, but it has never compromised my confidence that God no go shame us. It keeps giving meaning to the words of Horatio Spafford, that when peace like a river attends my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, and that whatever my lot maybe, IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL. Some night, all I can do is kneel and sing IT IS WELL, and God keeps coming through for me. It keeps building up my Faith in Him and it keeps reassuring me of His never-departing Presence. I pray for you tonight, May you find the Peace only Christ can give. The challenge you may be going through, will never overwhelm you. God will come through for you and you'll emerge Victorious. IT IS WELL WITH YOUR SOUL! |

While it's not a crime to be an Ifa priest, it becomes heinous to use your practices to harm and hypnotize others. The way our young people are chasing after quick money is alarming, and the process they get involved in diabolical practices |
Fellow Bachelors, Never be saddened by the fact that every night you get home exhausted, but you still have to cook your dinner and feed yourself Never be saddened by the fact that you get to eat only one delicacy, not because you can't prepare something else, but because there's no stress attached to your choice of meal. Appreciate the happiness that comes with having a peaceful night rest after eating alone. Appreciate the fact that no one goes through your phone to question every calls you made and text messages you received. Appreciate the fact that you don't need to put password on your WhatsApp and Messenger applications. Appreciate the fact that you can enjoy your delicious takeaway catfish barbecue and 'Suya' all alone. Enjoy the freedom of watching Manchester United vs Chelsea without having to drag your remote with one daughter of Eve. Fellow Bachelor, Na wetin married men dey miss, we suppose dey enjoy. The freedom of deciding if Nkechi should rock our polo this weekend, or if Aisha should come over next weekend. |
By the turn of the century, precisely 2100, it is projected that one in three people on the planet will be born in sub-saharan Africa, with the population of Nigeria taking over China. By 2050- which is less than 30 years from now, the Democratic Republic of Congo will be home to 200 million people, while the population of Cote D'Ivoire will surpass the 10 million threshold. While the population grows, it is also projected that without significant shift in policies, extreme poverty will be in double figure in sub-saharan Africa. Among the 736 million people in the world who live daily on less than $2 in 2015, 413 million were in Sub-saharan Africa. Alarming also is the fact that close to half (46 percent) of extremely poor people are children under 14 years of age. How do we improve the quality of life for the 226 million young people living in sub Saharan Africa? In economics, it is widely accepted that technology is the key driver of economic growth of countries, regions and cities. It is also a fact that these technologies are driven by young people. How then do we equip the young people in sub-saharan Africa to drive technologies that will create jobs, improve food production and guarantee effective security of lives and properties? These and many more will form the areas of discussions at the SRTV NEXT PRESIDENT IDOL Debates holding in Abuja https://srtvtalentexpo.com/the-next-governors-contest/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isYLXDeMEFc |

So, I sat on the same row with a fine girl in church today, and behind me was another fine girl ![]() As much I told myself that I had some basic principles I needed to stick to, a part of me wanted to ask for their numbers. You wouldn't know Miss Perfect from the color of the eyes or from the shape of the nose. Normally, I crave for 'natural' beauty and luckily, my church people don't do make up. Both of them were comely and beautiful even without foundations and concealers. Instantly I mapped out a plan. I'll talk to the one beside me during the service, and 'block' the other one after the service. As much as I was scouting, I still needed to be blessed during the end of the month service, while waiting for a window of opportunity to shoot my shots. But there was another problem What's the right lines to use in church? 'You look familiar' would be a lie and 'Can we talk on phone' would sound too worldly. So while we stood up to sing the hymn, I 'shifted' closer to the one on my side to share her hymnbook and said 'Hi.' She replied with a smile and assured me we'll talk after church service. The choir sang and the sermon was delivered with so much charisma and vigor while I jotted relevant points and passages of the scripture. But then, lucifer came around and I dozed off only to wake up when the preacher asked people to stand up. I was already on my feet before realizing the announcement was for first timers ![]() I and other first timers were led to reserved seats in front while the church clapped. The grace was said, members left and one of the pastors came to talk to the first timers. By the time he was done, the two fine girls were gone and while I didn't get a chance of collecting their numbers, at least I enjoyed the peanuts and Pepsi that was shared to first timers. And maybe the blessings of attending the service |
Well, from antecedents I've come to see Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as one of the few politicians in the present Federal administration that can get things done, either right or in the right direction. For this project, Amaechi once said FG had acquired armoured vehicles for coastal patrol, two special mission vessels, fast interceptor boats and special mission aircraft for surveillance. And that the deep blue project will bring an end to the some of the surveillance contracts given to individuals and ex militants in the region. Sincerely, I hope it works. It's not about the technology alone. We could have all the pirates fighting ammunition and still have collaborators in the navy and nimasa. Most times initiatives fail in Nigeria because of saboteurs who are living off a failed system |
